hua hin, thailand A walk around Hua Hin centre in recent weeks has been a sobering experience on some nights, with many bars and very few customers; while this is not universal in the area as a whole, and you will find bustling restaurants and busy out of town bars, it is clear that this low season is particularly slow, exacerbated by the strong baht making Thailand less cheap for tourists, and of course the political problems and violent protests that have occurred in a small section of Bangkok. However the key phrase in that last sentence is ‘a small section of Bangkok’. Hua Hin has been totally untouched by the protest and was not one of the areas affected by the curfew imposed elsewhere. Travel to and from the international airport in Bangkok was barely affected. The fly in the ointment has been the over-reaction of the various western governments and the subsequent unavailability of

Bangkok Hospital, Boonthavorn (home products superstore), several new hotels and condominiums, and more. Prices for land and property are probably as low now as they are likely to be ever again. For the tourist there are plenty of discounted hotels or other accommodation, easy access to quiet beaches, fantastic golf courses with no waiting and a plethora of other things that made Hua Hin the popular destination it should be. The present may be difficult, but the future is most definitely insurance cover for tourists coming bright. here. It is surely time for the various bodies to admit that it is safe to travel to Thailand (and really has been all along).
