History AWOL is a free weekly local paper for Hua Hin and the surrounding areas that was launched as part of the Observer Group in October 2008, and in January 2009 was taken over by the staff and since then run as a completely separate business. It is designed to be an easy to read, fun paper with a mixture of local and international, real (and possibly not) stories and sports, as well as the features you would expect in an English tabloid. It is aimed to have a broad appeal much like a tabloid, and this is reflected in our tag line, ‘For the expat in all of us’.
Distribution AWOL is distributed every Friday afternoon and evening in hard copy, and is also available to download via our website at www.awolonline.net. Downloaded copies account for an extra 10 - 15% readership on top of the printed version, and a ‘page flip’ online version has expanded the online readership further. The current print run is 1000 copies per week and it is produced in black and white only. On average AWOL now has 40 pages in the high season, dropping to 28 pages in the low season AWOL is distributed to bars, cafes, hotels, restaurants and other outlets (over 200 as of March 2013) across the Hua Hin, Cha Am and Khao Takiab area, and is the only weekly publication currently available in English, which gives it unrivalled flexibility and immediacy compared to other competing publications. We are constantly adjusting our distribution to account for new advertisers and perceived gaps in the market to ensure the greatest exposure for our advertisers and convenient availability for readers.
ONLINE In December 2009 AWOL launched its own website, to offer an even more enticing package for both readers and advertisers alike, giving advertisers access to thousands more readers online and the opportunity to extend their message beyond Hua Hin to the rest of the world. In 2010 the website was expanded to include a discussion forum and a variety of other entertaining pages with different content to the print version. In 2011 we launched our own Property section to accommodate requests from both readers and local agents for a platform to buy and sell property. There is also an online classifieds section which complements our printed classified adverts. In 2012 the website was revamped and further expanded to include a Directory, Travel and Shop section. Long term advertisers in the printed AWOL get included on the website as part of their deal but please contact us if you want to arrange an online only advert - we will be happy to give you a great value quote.

Sell it fast with AWOL Classifieds Advert sizes and prices The next few pages show what standard sizes of advert are available in AWOL. Each box shows the dimensions, and prices for four, thirteen and fifty two weeks as applicable. All prices are applicable from 1st October 2013 and are only available with payment in advance. Should an advertiser want less than a four week run the charge will be significantly higher per week due to the time required to alter the layout, and negotiated on a per advert basis. Advert design, where necessary, is included in these prices. Advert content can be altered at any time for no extra charge, and requests for page position and number will be accommodated whenever possible. Premiums are applicable to adverts on the front and back pages as well as page three, as follows: Front page - additional 20%; Back page and page 3 - additional 10%.

AWOL also has ‘sponsorship’ slots available for advertisers who would like to have their name/logo attached to one of our many regular features. These are generally small logos with contact details and in addition can have a slogan such as ‘Brought to you by xxxx’ near them. They can be combined with a regular ad box if desired, at the relevant price, but obviously only in thirteen week periods, as they are designed to be long term agreements, paid in advance. Classified adverts AWOL also has a Classifieds section, which is free for individuals to place small ads. Commercial and business related classifieds are charged at the following rates: Up to 50 words: 500 baht for 13 issues (3 months) 51 words and over charged at 500 baht plus 20 baht per word over 50 for 13 issues. Example: 60 words charged at 500 plus (10 x 20)=700 baht for 13 issues. Telephone numbers, email addresses and web addresses will all be counted as one word each. Details of how to place a classified ad can be found in AWOL. Online classifieds are free for all except businesses.
property From April 2013 Property For Sale can be advertised in the Property Marketplace section of the printed paper, with a two line reference in the printed Classifieds; it will also be featured on our website in several places, and with Lucky Real Estate and other partner agents. This is a no frills advertising only service, and the charges for this are: 4 weeks 2000 baht 13 weeks 5000 baht In addition, our partner agents can also offer a full service commission deal, which would include being listed on the AWOL Property, Classifieds and Forum sections of our website, with an optional inclusion in the printed AWOL (as above) for the following fees: 4 weeks 1000 baht 13 weeks 2500 baht Property For Rent has it’s own dedicated section in our print and online Classifieds which is currently charged at the same rates as for other paid Classifieds; however this is under review presently. In conjunction with our partner agent, Lucky Real Estate, we also offer a commission deal of one maonth’s rent for long term rental properties.
Local Listings Introduced in September 2010, this is a subdivided section of the printed newspaper which lists the basic details of our advertisers, including business name, telephone number, email or website. This is free for current advertisers, but non-advertisers can be listed for the following rates: One year (52 issues): 1000 baht Six months (26 issues): 750 baht Three months: (13 issues): 500 baht

AWOL can also arrange both printing and distribution of colour or black and white leaflets or brochures; if you have your own already printed and want them inserted and distributed with the paper, we will charge 1.2 baht per leaflet per week, with a minimum charge equivalent to the print run at that time; if you want the leaflet/ brochure designed and printed by us they can be distributed free inside the paper – price for design and printing is dependent on size, paper and other variables, so please contact us with your specifications so we can give you a quote.
Payment and advert specifications Payment must be made by the Monday of the week the advert is agreed to go in. Payment can be made by cash, cheque or by direct credit to our bank account. We also have a Paypal account which credit and debit cards can be used on. New advert runs will not be printed if payment is not received on time, while late payment of renewals will incur a penalty charge of double the weekly price listed., for every week the payment is late AWOL is only printed in black and white so please bear that in mind when supplying any logos or images - we can alter colour images for you but some may not look as you planned if they were created in colour. Images need to be at least 150 dots per inch in resolution for print purposes but again we can help to source or alter images. Any images, text or alterations for adverts need to be sent by close of business on the Tuesday prior to that Friday’s issue to be certain of being included, and earlier if the advertiser wants to be able to see an example of the advert before it goes to print.
