kids benefit from golfers’ generosity
hua hin, THAILAND In the lead up to Christmas you may recall that we ran a front page story headlined ‘Peace And Goodwill’, which featured information about a local charity’s fundraising efforts. The charity is the Bright Dawn Foundation, and this week we have been informed how those efforts have been going, and this is news we are very pleased to share with our readers. The featured fundraising effort in that story was a prize quiz, which raised over 11,000 baht, but the even better news is that the foundation has received a very generous donation from the Hua Hin Golf Society, who held a charity golf day and a charity dinner at the Dusit in December, and the total money raised was 244,964 baht. This money has all been donated specifically to fund the Bright Dawn Foundation’s computer literacy project at Huay Sai Ngam School in Nong Plub. This project involves upgrading the present computer classroom and installing 9 new computers. This special learning centre will be designed to teach the children basic computer skills and give them access to the internet and Thai language distance learning programs relevant to the subjects they study at school. The Foundation has ongoing involvement in three primary schools in the area, all of which suffer from a general lack of resources and funding, particularly serious teacher staffing shortages, food shortages and rundown and dilapidated buildings. so while the money that has been raised is fantastic, more help is always needed.
