new airline starts services from hua hin airport hua hin, THAILAND Following two previous efforts by Bangkok Airways and SGA, Hua Hin Airport is once again being utilised by a regular service to and from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, this time provided by Thai Regional Airlines. The service began towards the end of June and operates daily, departing Hua Hin at 5pm, arriving in Bangkok forty minutes later, with the return flight departing at 9.50am and arriving at 10.30am. Current fare promotions are 1700 baht one way or 3400 baht return (plus 50 baht tax each way), with a generous luggage allowance of 40 kilos, although the normal fare is 1,990 baht in each direction. The service has started with the smallest planes in their fleet, the eight seater twin engined Piper PA-31-350 Navajo Chieftain, although the company also boasts the 78 seater ATR72 and 150 seater Airbus A320. Thai Regional Airlines (telephone 090-779-2779, 090-779-3779, 02-134-7152, Website www.thairegionalairlines.com), also run flights from Bangkok to Korat and Buriram, and between Hat Yai and Phuket. Many in Hua Hin will be hoping that the service fares better than the previous efforts, and that other routes will be added out of Hua Hin, particularly to Phuket, as this journey is a long one whether by road (about seven hours) or by air (which currently entails travelling to Bangkok first). Direct routes to other parts of the country would also be a boon to many and would be a boost to the town. All we can say is - Good luck to Thai Regional Airlines and all who fly with them!

USA US government denies mermaids exist after documentary mix-up There is currently no proof to support the existence of mermaids, the US government has surprisingly announced. The National Ocean Service (NOC), a scientific agency of the US Commerce Department, made the strange declaration this week after receiving several inquiries from members of the public. It follows the airing of a programme on the Discovery Channel entitled: Mermaids: The Body Found, which several members of the public confused for a real-life documentary.
