murder one year after a brutal attack on him, paul ayling has died from his injuries
hua hin, THAILAND Almost exactly a year ago, Paul Ayling was attacked and seriously injured by two Thai men in the Borfai area of Hua Hin in what appeared to be a targeted revenge attack. This left him in a coma, and he received extensive treatment firstly in Thailand and then latterly back in the UK. In June specialists at Harrow’s Northwick Park Hospital declared that Mr Ayling was in a persistent vegetative state, and now we regrettably report that Mr Ayling died last weekend as a result of the injuries sustained in the attack. We would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the Ayling family and anyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife and son, as well as his mother, father and siblings. As Mr Ayling died in the UK, Hertfordshire police have opened a murder incident room, and a coroner’s inquest will be held there; the UK police will also liaise with the Hua Hin police via the British Embassy in Bangkok, and the Thai Prime Minister’s office is also involved. The big question is how the local police will react to the pressure being brought to bear on them in what should now be considered a murder investigation; the Ayling family have been openly critical of the way the case has been handled so far, and a reward of 200,000 baht still stands for anyone who comes forward with relevant information that would lead to the identification and prosecution of the culprits.. Police were previously holding two suspects but it appears as though they were never charged with the attack, possibly due to a lack of evidence or witnesses. This was almost certainly a premeditated rather than a random attack that has resulted in death, and regardless of national borders must be seen as murder. Once again, we hope that justice prevails.
