hua hin, THAILAND The annual Hua Hin vintage car show, this year called the ‘Hua Hin Automobile Concours 2012’, takes place from next Friday 14th December through to Sunday 16th December, but is preceded by an event that started yesterday (Thursday 6th December) the 2012 Hua Hin Motor Show, in what is a week to savour for motoring enthusiasts.

The Motor Show is taking place at Centennial Park, which is just after the flyover south of the town near Soi 112; it runs until Monday 10th December and includes a number of special events (most notably what seems like a staple of all Thai car shows, the ‘Sexy Car Wash’!) as well as new model cars on display.

The vintage car parade is a well established event and this year marks a decade of proud owners showing off their prized automobiles. It is being organised by Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin (better known locally as the Sofitel) in cooperation with Hua Hin Municipality and with the support of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, and other five-star hotels in Hua Hin. Some of the proceeds generated from the event will be donated to the Chaipattana Foundation.

Among the many vintage cars that will take part will be Police General Niyom Karnjanawat’s Hub Mobile 1914, the only one in Asia. Sawad Hohrungrueng will present his Mercedes Benz 300 SL Roadster 1955, Pot Vijittanont his Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gull-wing 1955, Witthawat SawadChutoh his Ferrari Dino 246 GTS 1974. Fifty classic and vintage cars valued at around 300 million baht will take part in the parade which will also feature period costumes and a car contest. There will also be a jazz concert on the beach on Saturday, 15 December, and a fun-filled programme of music and dining, taking place at the Centara Grand Beach Resort.

USA Bacon flavoured shaving cream goes on sale Men could soon wake up to the smell of bacon from their bathroom after an American company released a crackling flavoured shaving cream.

The new product is described as ‘high end, luxurious bacon-scented shaving cream’ and the US business adds you should use it after a hot wash or prior to a date with your potential soul mate.

Justin Esch, the ‘inventor’ of the strange shaving product, said the smell of bacon was the most powerful. He said: ‘There is nothing more powerful than the smell of bacon, nothing. Bacon is the smell of champions. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and bacon is the best part of breakfast. Why not smell like it and be the best?’

The self-titled bacontrepreneur has also come up with other pork inspired products such as bacon salt. He added: ‘Bacon is delicious, people get excited when they smell it. When you walk into a room don’t you want people to be excited to see you?’

Bacon flavoured shaving cream is available for around $14.99 (450 baht).

wiltshire, england The Bill send in quack squad to hunt duck thief An unusual theft has certainly ruffled a few feathers, as in one of the most bizarre crimes police have ever dealt with, a duck called Daisy has had her plumage pinched.

But what’s even more quackers is the duck’s pal, Jemima, was left untouched by the feather thief.

Police were called when owner Sarah Haslam went to her allotment to feed her ducks and saw that 15-month-old Daisy had been completely plucked. The mother-of-five said: ‘Somebody must have clipped off all her feathers – it is a crime. My son, William, was hysterical when he found her and I rang the police. But Daisy was not hurt and nothing happened to Jemima, my other duck, who is always by her side.’

Police think Daisy’s feathers were deliberately cut off by a thief. The theft was discovered in the town of Ludgershall, in Wiltshire, yesterday. Baffled by the crime, Wiltshire police has promised anonymity to witnesses who come forward with information about Daisy’s dilemma. A police spokesman said: ‘This is animal cruelty and criminal damage.’

ChaAm Gossip It always pays to check that the correct light switch is being used BEFORE the calling in of an electrician when your lights are seemingly not working. This lesson was recently and embarrassingly realized after a local Bar owner availed the services of an electrician who embarked on a Rewiring and fault finding job to fix the problem. As the electrician stood scratching his head at the switch as to why the lights weren’t still working it became apparent that he was operating the

wrong switch. 600 baht later and the right light switch was found and amazingly the lights worked.

We wonder whether Cha Cha Bar may start a “Light Beers Happy Hour” soon to celebrate. balloon chasers - tell us!

The word “Brother” has become very abused in the motorcycle world these days. Seems like if you buy a bike and a new set of leathers, everyone else that rides has now become your brother. Some call it Brotherhood when sharing the wind on two wheels. Some call it brotherhood when you ride a few roads together. Just what truly is brotherhood?
