hua hin, THAILAND We are not sure if we have any Mayan readers out there, but if we do, we hope they enjoy their last ever issue of AWOL, as according to some interpretations of the Mayan calendar, the world will end on 21st December 2012. For all the rest of you, next week’s issue will of course be the penultimate AWOL of the year, and the last before Christmas. The big question is, are we all ready, not just for Christmas but the New Year and beyond that follows? In the immediate future of Hua Hin there are a number of large and small events celebrating both Christmas and more significantly for the Thais, the arrival of 2013, or 2556 as it is in the Thai calendar. There are at least three large public events to bring in the New Year, at Centennial Park, Market Village and the Plearn Wan complex, and a plethora of hotel and restaurant hosted events for both Christmas and the turn of the year, not least at several of our advertisers, including Buffalo Tavern, Terrace 90, Larry’s, Cha Am Pub, The Dutchman and Bobby’s Bar. In the more distant future, later in 2013 and 2014, Hua Hin is gearing itself up for a boom in both tourism and population. Large infrastructure projects, both private and public will be ongoing and some completed in 2013, with the most notable expected to be the long running Market Village car park extension which is now partially open. Work on the canal road is not expected to finish next year but we are sure to see significant progress. The Bluport complex will have started construction, and by 2014 Hua Hin will already have experienced big changes in both it’s look and the numbers coming here. There will be growing pains as we see the emergence of a city, and quite possibly a provincial capital, before our eyes; now, are you ready? ORDER NOW FOR CHRISTMAS!
