RED ARROWS DISPLAY CANCELLED
•While • no official announcement was made this week before we went to press, the much anticipated HUA HIN
display in Hua Hin by the crack RAF aerobatics team, the Red Arrows, was cancelled at the start of the week. We can only guess at the reasons for this, with the most likely being that the display date fell within the 30 day mourning period for Hia Majesty the King, although projected inclement weather may also have had a bearing on the decision. Given that the team have performed in Thailand before, there is some hope that they will return at some point in the future, although it is thirteen years since they last performed in the Kingdom. Whether there will be a future planned display in Hua Hin is impossible to know. The team also cancelled their display in Singapore due to severe weather concerns. The logisitics of mounting the extensive Asia-Pacific and Middle East Tour of the Red Arrows would have been huge, so we are sure that whatever the reason for the cancellation, the lateness of the news confirming it would have been down to attempts to allow it to continue if at all possible. The safety of the pilots and respect for the people of Thailand must take priority though. We can only hope that they will be invited back in the near future to show the strong British support that there has always been for Thailand, with the two countries sharing so many similarities, notably their monarchies. A display over the town that the King regarded as home would be a magnificent way to show this.
