@TORIKELLY @HOBORLANDO @XL1067
who: XLEnt Xmas: Tori Kelly / Shaggy / Before You Exit / Walk the Moon where: House of Blues when: Thur, Dec 17th • 6pm info: HouseofBlues.com • @HOBOrlando • XL106.7com Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Tori Kelly was a would-be child star who grew into a woman who learned how to follow her own muse and bring her music to her fans through the Internet. Victoria Loren Kelly was born in Wildomar, California on December 14, 1992. Born into a musical household -- her father sang and played bass, her mother was proficient on keyboards and saxophone -- Kelly grew up listening to gospel and was influenced by pop and R&B acts such as Jeff Buckley, Lauryn Hill, and Jill Scott. She’ll hit the House of Blues this month to celebrate Xmas with the legendary rasta man Shaggy, locals Before You Exit and those guys that just tell people to shut up and dance. aXis: Talk about your debut Unbreakable Smile, as there is so much more than just the singles we’ve been hearing? Tori: It’s got lot of soul. The more I listen to it, I realize that every song is just me in it. I dug pretty deep for these songs, ‘cause I think for so long there was a wall that I had up just as a song-writer even. aXis: What’s the story behind your feather logo? Tori: It’s a feather, but it’s actually supposed to be a feather quill. So it represents my song-writing, kind of. And then, there’s a bible verse, it’s Psalm 91:4, that’s kind of where I pulled inspiration from as well. My faith is very woven into [it]. aXis: Something about Tori Kelly that nobody knows you are absolutely infatuated with? Tori: Nobody loves food like me.You should see me on my cheat days. It’s kind of insane. It’s like my main talking point now. In every event, it’s food. It’s become kind of like an event now, I just go nuts. It’s exciting, and then I get sick, and then only want to eat plants for the rest of my life. aXis: Favorite moments opening up for Ed Sheeran this past year? Tori: It was inspiring because the type of artist that I could see, like that’s the type of artist I would want to be too. It’s just like you forget that he’s even that talented because he’s just like on the same level as everybody. He treats everybody really respectfully. aXis: Word is you made Sam Smith cry with one of your tunes? Tori: Yeah that’s true. I think it was at South by Southwest, and it was my song ‘Paper Hearts,’ which is, it’s like the saddest song on my EP. He’s heard me sing and stuff before and he’s heard that song before, but I think just I might have caught him in a moment or something. Because he left and then afterwards, the lady who was with him like texted me and was like, ‘Yeah he was crying and like had to leave.’ But yeah, he’s one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met and that was really flattering to hear that my song touched him that much.
