Welcome to the FMF experience... one of the biggest independent music events in the country, right here in your own backyard. It’s also one of the biggest parties in Orlando. Celebrating it’s 16th year, the Florida Music Festival is a 3 day (predominantly) unsigned artist showcase, in which more than 125 artists from around the country come to Orlando to play a 30 minute power packed showcase for the attending music industry and more importantly, the fans on 10 stages all within walking distance downtown. It’s all about discovering new music...We had a young Taylor Swift play her first show at Wall St Plaza when she was only 14 years old!

FMF2016 presents Beemo Cheyenne Saloon Friday, April 22nd • 10:30pm @MyNameIsBeemo • MyNameIsBeemo,com

Paige’s original EP “Throne” and its hit single “Shame On Me” have brought her multiple awards and national recognition, consideration for a Grammy nomination in 2015, and her current #1 ranking on Reverbnation. Her brand-new single “Except For You” is getting a lot of downloads and posts on iTunes an listens on Spotify. But most of all, Paige loves to play live! Her evolving style is acoustic contemporary and vintage pop/rock. Paige is a Florida native who sings, plays, works and writes at the intersection of the humanities, music and the arts, and studies at University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

Beemo is an acoustic Americana band with mountain music roots. Their sound is a blend of indie-rock, Irish folk, bluegrass, and elements of the singer/songwriter genre. The Orlando band began as a collaborative effort between vocalist Dan Harshbarger and Sean Quinn. The duo added mandolin player/guitarist Matt Juliano, bassist Anthony Mickle and percussionist Justin Braun to complete the lineup. Wide Awake, Beemo’s latest EP, is a collection of songs with uplifting vocals, driving rhythms and nimble guitar and mandolin work.

aXis: The new single is great, did you produce that here or up in Virginia where you are going to school at UVA? Paige: Thank you! I recorded my new single “Except for You” in Orlando, Florida, at Dreamwalker Music. Mike Walker produced the single and I’m extremely happy with how it turned out; he always does amazing things with the raw material I give him. aXis: Do you find the scene back in Central Florida more conducive to a young artist compared to in Virginia? Paige: I’ve heard the music scene in Virginia is awesome, but sadly I haven’t been able to participate much in it yet! It’s a lot easier for me to be involved in the music scene in Central Florida because over the years I’ve built up a reputation there and acquired steady gigs—-plus I have a band and a roadie there, and I’m on my own here in Virginia. I’m hoping to start playing some gigs here in Virginia soon.

aXis: This will be your second play at the Florida Music Festival, how has the past year treated you in the Otown scene? Beemo: We are very fortunate. Beemo has been asked to play some great venues and events around Central Florida. One of the best things this year has been meeting talented musicians and building some good friendships. We are excited to be playing FMF again. The Cheyenne Saloon stage has an amazing line up. aXis: Some of the members of the band have day jobs like Lockheed, how do you balance the music with the ‘day job?’ Beemo: The folks at work are very supportive. Our bosses frequently ask how the band is doing. They want to know when we are going on tour so they can plan accordingly.

aXis: You’re part of the University of Virginia University Singers, how is it being on stage with a group rather than up there with the guitar? Paige: It’s really awe inspiring to sing in such a large group of talented singers. I’m so proud to be a part of the University Singers and I feel really lucky to have all of the opportunities that come with it, like singing with a symphony and getting to perform classical pieces I would never be able to perform on my own (Bach’s St. John Passion is the furthest thing from a solo piece!). Singing classical music in a group of 90 is definitely very different from singing solo acoustic sets, but I absolutely love both and am so thankful to be able experience such a broad spectrum of musical performances and genres.

aXis: The band has a nice rootsy organic sound, but you guys have some great studio connections, what’s the secret to keeping the sound organic in a digital world? Beemo: We keep it simple and reflective of our live sound by working with studios that know how to capture the warmth of acoustic instruments. Will Snyder at Real Feel Recording was instrumental in producing our last project.

aXis: If you had a chance to open for anyone on tour past or present, who would it be? If and when you get huge, who would you want opening for you? Paige: This is such a difficult question! If I could travel back in time I’d love to open for the Eagles because obviously they’re legendary, and if I could open for someone in the present I’d want to open for Taylor Swift because I have endless admiration for her as a songwriter and performer (plus I’ve been to two of her concerts and they’re an absolute blast - I’d love to be a part of one). I hope that someday if I become successful enough to have someone open for me on tour, I can hire someone who is talented, professional, passionate about music, giving them an opportunity I know I would love to have as a young artist.

aXis: Do you find your brand of music to fit well into multiple genres, Americana, Country, AltRock to a certain extent, and how do you promote that? Beemo: We have a host of diverse musical influences, which gives us a lot of flexibility. Beemo has played wine bars, dive bars and stages of all shapes and sizes. We promote shows with our bass player’s kick ass artwork.

aXis: What’s next up in the studio or on the road? Paige: I’m going to be releasing a series of original singles over the course of 2016 and I couldn’t be more psyched to share them because I really feel that they represent my growth as an artist. They’ll be available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and other online stores; “Except for You” is already available for purchase everywhere! I’m also really excited about my sponsorships with Samson and Ernie Ball; 2016 has been good to me so far! As for what’s next on the road, I’m trying to earn my way onto Warped Tour 2016 through a contest, but I need votes from fans to get there. The link is on my website, so visit www.paigekeiner.com to vote for me! If you want to catch me a little closer to Orlando this summer, I’ll be playing shows at Mission Inn, Dexter’s Lake Mary, JB Boondock’s, Elixir, Yellow Dog Eats, and other locations.

aXis: If you could open for anyone on tour right now, who would it be? Once you become huge, who would you want to open for you? Beemo: We would like to open for Laney Jones and the Spirits (hint, hint) or Lucero. When we make it big, our guitarist would like Ratt to open for us, our mandolin player says Hendrix and our bassist wants Unknown Hinson. These choices have not made it past the veto process.

FMF2016 presents Evan Taylor Jones Wall Street Plaza II Friday, April 22nd • 7:00pm @EvanTaylorJones • EvanTaylorJones.com

Evan Taylor Jones is a Soul-Rock artist living in Orlando, FL who has made quite a strong way in many music scenes in Florida and the Southeast, having opened up for grammy-nominated Emelie Sande, and Bob Marley’s famous band ‘The Wailers’. He has also been on season 10 of NBC’s ‘The Voice’ (current season) and thus, has grown his social media platforms to about 8k Facebook fans, 17.2k Twitter followers and just under 6k followers on Instagram. With no immediate plans of recording again until 2017, ETJ will be on tour this summer promoting his latest EP ‘The Sunray Sessions Live’. I am from LA but I have lived in Orlando since high school. My sound is soul-rock. I’ll have a new album in 2017 but I will be on tour late this summer. I’ve played with Emelie Sande, The Wailers and I was on The Voice this past season also. Facebook is coming up on 8k, Twitter is at 17.2k and Instagram is around 6k. YouTube video views are over 500k so that’s nice too haha (I didn’t write this like a bio, if you’re going to copy/paste it I can re-write it if needed. aXis: This will be your second play at the Florida Music Festival, how has the past year treated you in the Otown scene? Evan Taylor Jones: In the past year, I have found that my engagement on my social media platforms has gone up significantly. Thus more people are paying attention to the content that I put out and because of that, more people are showing up to the original music shows. The music scene in O-town has treated me well in the past year because of that.

APRIL FRIDAY

aXis: Originally from LA, what motivated you to make the trip East? How was that scene influential to your music growing up? ETJ: At a young age, I moved to East Orlando from LA when my Mother’s career expanded and there were then opportunities for her to branch out. I never got to experience the music scene in LA as a youth though, and I wish I had. aXis: You’ve had some nice appearances regionally, including a Ron Jon’s promo showcase among others, how do you get the word out for gigs? ETJ: Getting gigs and keeping them relies on content; from music to music videos. I have learned that it all has to be apparent and cohesive. I find myself focused on that and marketing the content, heavily is what fuels my name for venues.

10:30

PM

mynameisbeemo.com

CHEYENNE SALOON 128 W Church Street ORLANDO, FL

aXis: You just related ‘The Sunray Sessions’ live EP, what influenced the sound, and inspired the idea of doing a live EP as opposed to tracking? ETJ: ‘The Sunray Sessions Live’ EP was recorded in a replicated style of the classic era of music: one room, 10+ musicians, a team of engineers, microphones, a click track and pressing play. My vision for the record was heavily influenced by the artist in the motown and mussel shoals time of music. aXis: If you could open for anyone on tour right now, who would it be? Once you become huge, who would you want to open for you? ETJ: Right now, I would want to tour with Blackberry Smoke. Yes, they are a southern rock band but my group can hang with just about any genre and the guys at BBS play with so much soul. Charlie Starr, the lead vocalist/guitarist and songwriter in the band is someone that I genuinely look up to and whose voice is so unique and eclectic. When this music becomes a worldwide item, if it weren’t BBS that we were sharing venues with, I would want Gary Clark Jr. to open for me.

soundcheck: Julia McDonald who: where: when: info:

@2016FMF @WALLSTPLAZA @JULIAMCDONALDMUSIC

FMF2016 presents Julia McDonald Wall Street Plaza Thursday, April 21st • 8:30pm @JuliaMcDonaldMusic • JuliaMcDonaldMusiccom

Julia McDonald is a high energy artist and songwriter, based out of Orlando, FL. Her debut singles, ‘Simpler Things’, ‘Pretty Committee’ and ‘Something to Talk About’ exposed her soul and style to the world while managing to preserve the 18- year olds incredible depth and honesty with each song. In the past year, her songs have been performed for audiences throughout Central Florida, are showcasing at the 2016 Florida Music Festival, and were used to open for Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Andrew Duhon. Looking to May 2016, when she will release her debut EP, “Gravity”, produced by renowned producer Brooks Paschal (Versa Emerge, There for Tomorrow); Julia will be back in the studio with Multi-Platinum producer Kevin De Clue. De Clue, based out of Los Angeles, CA, began working with Julia after discovering her on Reverbnation, where Julia holds tight to the #1 rank in the singer/songwriter category, as well as, boosting #1 regionally, stated, “The minute I heard Julia’s voice, I knew it was a must that I work with her. I have listened to thousands of artists in my 20 plus years as a producer, and I can confidently say that Julia is one of the best”.

aXis: You can boast the most impressive stat of being #1 on Reverbnation Singer/Songwriter category, not only in Otown, but globally, How did you develop such a nice following on Reverb and socially? Julia: Honestly, I have no idea. I think it’s amazing that I’ve grown that much of a fan base in the short time that I’ve been on there, but it just kind of happened. I’ve spent a lot of time networking with other artists and building friendships (from around the world!) and I think that has benefited me the most. Reverbnation is an amazing place to meet other artists and industry professionals and has opened several opportunities for me since I signed up in October, 2015. My other social sites are one fan at a time, but once I’ve got them as fans, they stick around, so I’m grateful for all of them. aXis: The EP sounds great, how was it working with Brooks Paschal, who is known more for his heavier pop/punk and emo work with acts like There For Tomorrow and A Hero’s Fate? Julia: Brooks has so much talent and is so fun to work with! He has never failed to give me exactly what I want in my songs and is incredibly creative. He has no problem producing in any genre, regardless of where his original works fall. He has made the process so much fun and taught me a lot about recording. He is genius at what he does.

aXis: How did you come about meeting your new producer Kevin De Clue, and have you begun tracking yet? Julia: Kevin reached out to me through Reverbnation and it just took off from there. We actually just began the tracking process and he’ll be coming out to Orlando in April to spend time in the studio! aXis: Kevin is well known for selling millions with Hillary Duff. What direction do you think your philosophy on writing and recording will take? Julia: Kevin is so supportive of artistic expression and has been open to every idea that I’ve given. I’m taking my music in a more ‘soulful’ direction, after being told that my recorded work does not sound like my live performance, and he has been completely on board. I am excited to see what he is going to input and I’m sure it will be amazing! aXis: If you could open for anyone on tour right now, who would it be? Once you become huge, who would you want to open for you? Julia: If I could open for anyone, it would be Adele. I admire her voice so much and she has been one of the biggest inspirations in my writing and technique. Once I’m huge, I actually intend to have local bands from every state I’m in open for me. I know how incredibly difficult it can be to get out there, and once I’m big enough, I want to give other musicians the chance to play a larger crowd. As far as musicians to tour with me, I think Justin Nozuka is amazing!

@2016FMF @WALLSTPLAZA @DESTINYMUSICXO

who: where: when: info:

FMF2016 presents Destiny Wall Street Plaza Friday, April 22nd • 7:30pm @DestinyMusicXO • DestinyOfficial.com

Destiny, nominated for Independent Music Video of the Year per the Hollywood Reporter, is climbing the Reverbnation Pop charts-now at #1 Local #11 National and #12 Global! After incredible shows in Austin, Texas in March, Destiny will be performing at the Florida Music Festival April 22 and releasing her highly anticipated song, “Oblivion”. Destiny is currently touring 5 states, followed by a 20 College Tour in the Fall! Follow Destiny and join over 100,000+ Followers/ #Dreamers on their own path with Destiny . Visit DestinyOfficial.com for all her social media links. aXis: Making the trip from the left coast, how has Los Angeles helped to develop your sound, and is the scene conducive to young artists? Destiny: I absolutely love Los Angeles! It is filled with so many inspiring and fascinating individuals committed to their dreams! It definitely has had an influence on the type of music I write and LA is a perfect place to meet potential connections! With so many people from diverse backgrounds, my mind is constantly thinking in different genres and musical styles! I would say that in Los Angeles and Hollywood it is all about being “trendy” but you can define trendy how ever you want to express your music! There are definitely many opportunities for young artists! aXis: You’ve had a crazy first year with the new music, talk about how you have got the word out to some of the video contests, and major festivals you booked? Destiny: My manager, team and I have a daily meeting with a “to do” list. We know and accept the challenge every day. We know it takes a combination of our efforts and the pouring of all our passion into my music, both in creating it and in marketing it! aXis: You made your first appearance on Univision at the age of 5, how did that come about, and how has starting at an early age helped to develop you as an artist? Destiny: I remember the 9/11 attacks had just occurred. In response to the tragedy, my mom wrote and recorded a tribute song which I was a part of. Going in the studio, recording, performing and appearing on Univision were pivotal moments. I continued to sing and perform and eventually write songs myself. I soon realized that music was a language all in itself. It intrigued me. It drew me in. It challenged me. It captivated me. It has become my passion to share with others! aXis: Your social feed numbers are through the roof, what’s the secret to developing that online fanbase? Destiny: I have found that one of the things that makes me happiest is giving. So I give $100 as a Giveaway every month. I also hold remix contests. (Shhhh...I am planning another remix contest very soon.) Last year, I had over 7,000 entries from over 100 countries for one remix contest. I see that followers want to be involved in creating, developing, deciding, participating and having an opportunity to be a part of what you do. I would say these are all a part of the secret. I interact with my followers everyday. I do my best to reply and respond, collaborate and be a friend. aXis: If you could open for anyone on tour right now, who would it be? Once you become huge, who would you want to open for you? Destiny: If I could open for anyone, it would be Justin Bieber or Maroon 5/Adam Levine or Drake or the Weeknd or John Legend. (I am all over the place!) I could go on and on!

soundcheck: Gatlin Thornton

@2016FMF @CHURCHSTREETORL @GATLINTHORNTON

who: where: when: info:

FMF2016 presents Gatlin Thornton Church Street Station Mainstage Friday, April 22nd • 9:00pm @GatlinThornton • GatlinMusic.com

Gatlin is a 17 year-old singer/songwriter located in Orlando, FL. Her sound is very coffeehouse because of her unique tone and primary instrument choice of guitar, though Gatlin also plays piano. She released her first EP, “In November”, ironically in November of 2015. Not only is Gatlin playing in this year’s Florida Music Festival but also taking the stage at Rock by the Sea in St. George’s Island, FL in May. She currently boasts the top ranking regionally on ReverbNation. aXis: You’ve been showing up on stage at all the major regional festivals, still while in high school. How have you managed to get the word out and book a lot of they key gigs around Central Florida? Gatlin: Even though high school is still very time consuming, being homeschooled gives me a lot of extra time to stay busy with music. So I get to have fun and perform in all the festivals, and it’s always so great seeing my amazing support system as well as my followers on social media show up at my gigs. aXis: A lot of your songs seem to be about love lost, if their a boy to blame, or are you just a really creative songwriter? What are your inspirations for some of these melodies? Gatlin: Well, both I would say! I definitely over-exaggerate for effect and most of my songs are about the lost love, be it old friends and the changes that went along with leaving the normal life of a teenage girl to being homeschooled and pursuing music. But…. I mean, of course there was a boy. Only one song from my EP was inspired by him. aXis: You’ve worked with some local producers that have helped other artist get to the next level, anyone that has helped play a part in your songs and production, and how have they helped? Gatlin: Mike Walker has been a huge help in my music journey. He produced my EP, “In November”, and has done talent development with me since the release. Also, my best friend and local singer/songwriter, Hannah Daly, and I will often write together and her style has really influenced my songwriting. aXis: You attended Lake Highland, a school that produced the members of Creed, and have music industry veterans kids as your classmates. How do you attribute your schooling and Orlando’s scene in helping to develop your art as a songwriter and singer? Gatlin: I haven’t attended Lake Highland since my first year of high school, but it definitely influenced me in so many ways, especially my music. Since leaving Lake Highland, I’ve found that Orlando is a city filled with talented and creative people. There’s a community of people who love music, film, art, and writing and being around these people has inspired me to be more creative and want to be better. Plus, it is a lot more fun to share a love for something with your friends! aXis: If you could open for anyone on tour right now, who would it be? Once you become huge, who would you want to open for you? Gatlin: Right now, I think it’d be cool to be on Vance Joy’s “Fire and the Flood Tour”. He’s one of my favorite musicians and his fan base are the people who I think my music would most appeal to. If I was to open up for anyone it would definitely be Taylor Swift. She’s changed the music industry for girls and has inspired so many, plus she’s the number one pop star of this generation, soooo that’d be unreal! I just love Taylor Swift what can I say.

soundcheck: King Complex

@2016FMF @WALLSTPLAZA @KINGCOMPLEXBAND

who: where: when: info:

FMF2016 presents King Complex Wall Street Plaza Saturday, April 23rd • 8:00pm @KingComplex • KingComplexMusic.

The trajectory of King Complex is similar to many duo artists that have emerged in recent years. The artists behind King Complex, Bracher Brown and Cody Doss, were brought up and trained as musicians and songwriters. Their game was changed while waiting in line at Bonnaroo 2013 to see Paul McCartney when Bracher overheard someone gushing about Pretty Lights. It would be seeing the Pretty Lights show that night, and realizing the boundless creativity in electronic music, that awakened the entity that is King Complex. King Complex is an intrepid project that recontextualizes organic instrumentation and pop compositional approaches with the daring innovations currently happening in electronic music, including adventurous arrangements, bold textures, and rugged beats. Their first single, “Made In America,” examines the deification of criminals by the media through exploring how often in pop culture criminals and rock stars vie for the same cover story real estate. The scathing lyrical statement goes down easy, offset by raw beats, filthy ambience, hooky glam-rock guitars, ominously soulful vocal refrains, and gorgeous soaring lead vocals. “Made In America” is a brutally honest video, directed by Robin Cowie (Blair Witch Project), that takes aim at the epidemic of gun violence in the USA. As newsreel footage and newspaper clippings of mass shootings splatter across the screen the lyrics address the violent obsession. “You made me a killer, the touch of a trigger and my face in the magazine.”

aXis: You have gone through the ranks of coffee shop solo act, to rock band, how did the Orlando scene help to develop you as an artist? Bracher: I think all the progression musically/conceptually is a product of time spent on the craft and access to more resources. The Orlando scene was a perfectly strange setting for me to get comfortable performing live. I was 14 or 15 years old playing to people twice my age at the globe on Thursday nights and that sorta thing. You learn pretty quick what works and what doesn’t. aXis: How did college lifestyle play a part in creating this eclectic sound? Bracher: I don’t know that we partake in the “american pie” college lifestyle other than sticking an occasional genital into an apple pie which is mostly for skin care. It was more just a natural progression. Cody: Yes, those are all true things. Although I too am all for the good ol’ cock in the pie, I actually do, unlike Bracher, enjoy partying extensively. aXis: You guys are doing a lot with just a duo, how much of the album are you able to attack live with just the two of you? Bracher: If we are tactical about it we can usually get the album cornered pretty fast and take it out with one simultaneous attack. Cody: Yes, one simultaneous attack. We’re able to reproduce all aspects of the album live: sonically, spiritually, and sexually- with the magic of backing tracks.

Sarah Q feat. Gerry Williams on keys Wall St. Plaza MainStage Saturday, April 23rd • 7:30 PM

www.sarahqofficial.com | @sarahqmusiq

aXis: Robin Cowie, of Blair Witch fame worked on your most recent video, how did that come about, and how was the experience? Bracher: We got in contact with him at an extremely fortunate time. He was interested in doing something new and also wanted a project that Valencia’s film program could be a part of so he volunteered his time and “movie magic” expertise. The experience was both fun and educational. Robin had a very collaborative yet focused approach from a artistic standpoint when directing a crew of over 40 people that I would imagine only comes with years of experience in these situations. I’m glad I got to see that this early on. Cody: One of the coolest dudes I’ve ever met, the largest collaboration I’ve ever been involved in, and one of the best weeks of my life. I am humbled and extremely grateful for the vast amount of energy and time everyone put into the project. aXis: So if you guys could open for any major artist who would it be, and who would you have open for you? Bracher: Ron Jeremy. Eric Andre featuring Ron Jeremy. Cody: 98 degrees for sure. The only stadium I’ll be rocking is the pokemon stadium. Charizard I choose you.

soundcheck: Coastal Breed who: where: when: info:

@2016FMF @WALLSTPLAZA @BREEDCOASTAL

FMF2016 presents Coastal Breed Wall Street Plaza Thursday, April 21st • 8:00pm @BreedCoastal • CoastalBreed.com

Coastal Breed brings an original surfrock sound from the East Coast of FLA, having developed their sound in the salty air of Cocoa Beach. In just a few short years they’ve already rocked the stage with the likes of Pepper, The Original Wailers, Mike Jones, Pato Banton among others. Coastal Breed’s sonic spectrum is a crowd pleaser, covering a diverse vibe from to old school hip hop, to Roots Rock Reggae, with a little classic rock vibe thrown in. aXis: You guys are truly coastal, how well received is your rasta sound up and down the coast, what scenes that helped to shape your sound? Coastal Breed: The great thing about our backgrounds as musicians is we are able to adapt to the crowd we play for. The most rewarding part of playing for new crowds is the feedback we receive. Crowd energy is contagious and were blessed to be able to say that we have never had trouble being received by new fans, its all love. We don’t play for the crowd we play with them. Coastal Breed is influenced by many different scenes. Each member grew up playing in punk, metal, ska, and even hip hop groups. aXis: You have a heavy show schedule, have you had time to record? Coastal Breed: Lately we have been focused on new material and playing shows. We had set ourselves to record around march but we decided to do a music video instead and its definitely paid off. We have more than enough material to record and plan on going back into the studio after we finish our next merch order. aXis: The white man reggae sound has become the background music of the generation, what bands are at the forefront in your eyes? Coastal Breed: Right now I’d have to say the forefront of “whiteboy reggae” would probably have to be Stick Figure. Those guys are really freakin good, and humble too. Granted there are a whole lot of other great bands like Resinated, Dirty Heads, Badfish, Rebelution, and Slightly Stoopid. aXis: If you were huge who would you ask to join you as an opener? Coastal Breed: This a hard question to answer. Each one of us in the group would have our own individual pick because we all are so diverse in musical influence. As a group we all would agree that if we could play any show today it would probably be the 311 Cruise. Something different that would appeal to a broad spectrum audience. with bands like Rancid, Reel Big Fish, hip hop artists like J Cole and Kendrick Lamar and RHCP to give you an idea or diversity. We would also probably bring out one of our local buddies General Eyes or the Bullet Dodgers because we believe in loyalty and the hard work we all put in together.

aXis: There was a rumor you guys borrowed a boat to shoot a music video? We had to ask! Coastal Breed: So this was our first time doing a music video and It was so much fun. We had a great video director Aaron Holznagle with Onvideo productions and he really helped us make it happen. He used our real mugshots from the past and created a a Facebook Ad saying, “local band steals boat to shoot music video” the feedback was unreal. The post got just under 200,000 views and got our page and music video a lot of attention. The video is doing well on YouTube and we are happy that we did the release this way. At first we had our friends and family blowing up our phones like “dude are you guys okay?” and “yo WTF?” But when people started clicking the link to our music video they realized that we skunked them pretty decent! We did get a few negative posts from people who saw the add but didn’t click the link, and were pissed off because they think were some criminal low life local band. We just went with it and egged them on. The best part is the whole story line of our music video is us actually stealing a boat and partying on it, which was so much fun to do. A Lot of fun. We recommend everyone trying it... Just don’t go to jail for it! Feel free to check out the video on Youtube.

soundcheck: The Supervillains

@2016FMF @WALLSTPLAZA @THESUPERVILLAINSFL who: where: when: info:

FMF2016 presents The Supervillains Wall Street Plaza Mainstage Saturday, April 23rd • 11:30pm @TheSupervillainsFL • TheSupervillains.com

aXis: What towns have been the strongest outside of the state? Dom: We are well received just about everywhere. We’ve been touring the country for about ten years now and have been to every major city so many times! Some of our favorite spots would include ALL of Texas, Washington, Oregon and California and of course our favorite Colorado, because we like mountains...of weed. aXis: Are your tours really more like leaving home and going on vacation these days? Dom: Depends on the tour!! We are currently on a tour of the carribean, so ya pretty much stoned, rum drunk jam sessions and days full of sand, sun and ocean pretty much the whole time. On the other hand a month or two on the road will remind you that it’s not all fun and games.

The Florida-bred swamp reggae rockers have been bending genres, partying hard, touring the world, and leaving tales of joy and destruction in their wake. aXis: Batman vs Superman… there doesn’t seem to be room for Supervillains anymore when the Superheroes are fighting each other? Who would make a great music rival for your film? Dom: Don’t worry, the bad guys always come back. In the immortal words of dark helmet “evil will always triumph because good is dumb”. aXis: You guys live in the Central Florida area, what’s the average day look like for the band, or mainly yourself? Dom: This question depends on who you ask. Me personally I spend my days walking through Thornton park with a coffee in one hand and my other hand glued to my phone steering the Supervillains’ ship, then spending my nights watching shows downtown while binge drinking at caseys or the lodge. If you ask Skart he’d tell you fishing, tending to his farm and fishing. Oh ya we practice once in a while too. aXis: You seem to have a nice routine of hitting the spots in FLA a few times a year, what towns are kindest to you guys outside of Otown? Dom: New Smyrna beach is like our beach house. We have a blast amongst the beach people! We love the west end in Sanford as well!! Overall we are lucky to live in Florida. Most markets are very kind to us.

aXis: Any places you guys book down the hotel for an extra night and just stick around? Dom: Most definitely. St Thomas for example. I always stay a couple of days after we are done with shows to enjoy the island without having somewhere to be. We also stick around in Corpus Christi whenever we’re in the area to spend some time on the gulf. If we play a multi day festival we go all the way, stock up on booze and food and stay the whole weekend.most recently was the okeechobee music festival, what a fucking rager! aXis: If the band was a scene from a movie, which one would it be? Dom: When jaws pops out of the water. aXis: If it were a another band’s song, which one describes you guys best? Dom: Afroman “because I got high” aXis: If it were a dog what would it be and why? Dom: A dachshund, because you know, huge wieners. aXis: Who are you listening to these days for chilling? Dom: Hank williams, jerry reed, been revisiting some old Fat records comps and always listening to roots reggae. aXis: Who do you listen to for getting fired up? Dom: Kendrick Lamar, Jerry reed and all types of roots reggae. aXis: Who do you listen to when firing up and chilling? Dom: Nofx,lag wagon, mad caddies and Seinfeld reruns in the background.

The bio reads... ‘This Little Underground is music column providing perspective, live reviews and news on the city’s music scene.’ Dig a little deeper, as the columnist has for nearly a decade, and you realize the collective letters represent the very grit that makes up a scene. Bao Le-Huu doesn’t take the page to provoke, but wholeheartedly appreciates a provocative moment on stage or recorded, but really moreso on stage. His columns are not genre specific, but rock-your-ass specific, and that isn’t specific to any instrument, tempo, or vocal range. This Little Underground comes back for round three of presenting an eclectic array of noises and visuals at the Legendary Social on FMF2016 Opening Night. This year’s barrage includes scene vets and younger names alike, with Mike Dunn, Project Eden, Panther Camp, Reverist and Otown’s party starters and finishers... The Sh-Booms. PRODUCTION & EVENT COORDINATION

PRODUCTION & EVENT COORDINATION

aXis: You have been belting out the seminal guide to all things worth listening to live for nearly a decade, tell us the single most riveting moment that you stood in front of a stage in Otown? Bao: The show that probably comes to mind most is one that started off on the Backbooth stage but didn’t stay there long. And it was Israeli savages Monotonix. They’d already uncorked a wild-ass performance played all over the club - on the floor, on the shoulders of fans, everywhere. But they capped it all off by drawing the audience out into the middle of Pine Street for a finale where the singer scaled then dove off a tree into the crowd. That was pretty special. aXis: Ok, now for some more lighthearted fare… What artist has made the biggest impression on you that is actively working the circuit, but yet to break out of the market? Clark Jr: Being back home was really key. It was everything. I could walk to the studio, which meant my real life, my reality, was just right there and I drew from that. aXis: You really found your voice, on just about every instrument with this record? Bao: Probably American Party Machine right now, because of the sheer size of their personality and show. These guys played my showcase in 2014 and are so spectacularly immediate that something should’ve happened for them by now. But that’s why people should check out the This Little Underground showcase. This is the exact criterion I use when deciding on who I ask to play. It’s the artists that haven’t broken yet but deserve to. aXis: If you had to nail it down to one genre, what would you say our town, scene is best represented by? Bao: Impossible to say, and that’s a good thing. Over the past 15 years or so, Orlando has exploded into a million shades, effectively making us deeper and more colorful as a whole. But I think the most development and progress has been made by the indie, underground, and art scenes. aXis: The artist behind the artist, what producer or producers do you feel are pivotal to making the sound(s) that make us proud? Bao: David Plakon (Roadkill Ghost Choir, Laney Jones, Saskatchewan, Day Joy, You Blew It!) Justin Beckler (Kaleigh Baker, Terri Binion, Matt Butcher) aXis: Any band or artist that did make their way out of here, you wish we could reel back in so they wouldn’t be serving as the Orlando ambassador abroad? Bao: Blood on the Dance Floor aXis: Occupational hazard is a brew in one hand while leaning on a sound booth with the other, exactly where are your top three sweet spots to stand in town for live music? Bao: THE SHORT LIST The Social - The nook between the bar and the SOUNDS LIKE sound booth, or topside against the railing.
