THE ENZIAN 1300 South Orlando Avenue 407.629.0054 Thurs, December 1, 6:30pm and 9:30pm, $7.50 - $10 The end of the world—and the collapse of the spirit—has never been depicted as beautifully and wrenchingly as in MELANCHOLIA, the latest provocation from Lars von Trier. The title refers both to a destructive planet “that has been hiding behind the sun” and the crippling depression of new bride Justine (a revelatory Kirsten Dunst, rightful winner of the Best Actress award at Cannes this year), whose mental illness is so severe that she drives away her groom during their disastrous wedding reception. As the extinction of the planet looms ever larger, Justine is desperately tended to by her sister, Claire, herself gripped by anxiety over the impending doomsday. MELANCHOLIA’s premise may be science fiction, but the feelings of despair it plumbs are the most heart-felt human drama.

Star, The Sh-Booms WILL’S PUB 1042 N. Mills Ave. 407.898.5070 Tues, December 6, 8pm, $7 He’s My Brother She’s My Sister seems to invite a broad range of colorful words to describe their music and performances… “Western-tinged,” “estranged and glamorous,” “psych-idyllic” and “vaudeville-y,” with “alleyway rhythms,” and “earthy swagger.” No doubt this is due in part to their mélange of musical styles, both modern and antique—with a sense of expression that is both sincere and theatrical; in part to their eccentric attire; and to their unique instrumentation, including a rhythm section bolstered by a tap dancer. Certainly there is no shortage of inspiration or expression in the band’s musical or theatrical palette.
The Bastard Suns and Lindsay Perry THE SOCIAL 54 N. Orange Ave. 407.246.1419 Fri, December 2, 9pm, $7 - $10 With the kazoo wielding songstress Beebs as their fearless leader, BaHMM is taking audiences by surprise with their high energy performances, and a refreshing never before heard blend of psychedelic rock, funk, blues, and hip-hop. Beebs and Her Money Makers origins date back to the Summer of 1969, where the band first met at an underground pool hall for “ super heroes “ in Upstate New York. They ...spent their first few months together traveling throughout the countryside, dropping acid, smoking grass, fighting crime and perfecting their musical stylings. When the 60’s came to an end, and the hippie freak movement met its demise, BAHMM decided to sign up for a top secret governmental experiment involving cryogenic freezing. FLASH FORWARD TO JANUARY 1st 2010…. 40 years later Beebs and Her Money Makers are released from their dormant state and unleashed upon the world yet again. It’s been said that watching a BaHMM show is like a blast from the past mixed with a refreshing state, including the weed brownies. So come stoned, or come sober, or don’t come at all, but watch out for these guys and gals as they will be coming to a city near you, very soon…

DECEMBER 2011 31. Alice Cooper HARD ROCK LIVE 6050 Universal Boulevard 407.351.LIVE Wed, December 14, 8pm, $40.50 - $60 The tour coincides with the release of his new Welcome 2 My Nightmare album, produced by longtime collaborator Bob Ezrin (who also produced the original Welcome to My Nightmare album in 1975). The release features a host of special guests (including the three other surviving members of the original band, “Nightmare” guitarists Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner, Alice’s touring band,Vince Gill, Rob Zombie, and, most shockingly, Ke$ha) as Alice revisits his legendary nightmares. The original release is a rock classic that spawned its title track anthemic hit and the ballad, “Only Women Bleed.” It launched a worldwide theatrical tour and certified Alice Cooper as a visionary trailblazer whose influence persists today in rock, metal, pop, punk, theatre, television, film and much more. Known as the architect of shock-rock, Alice Cooper has rattled the cages and undermined the authority of generations of guardians of the status quo, continuing to surprise fans and exude danger at every turn, like a great horror movie, even in an era where CNN can present real life shocking images.

Beginning November 11th, TSO will rock your winter season, performing the timeless classic “Christmas Eve and Other Stories” in its entirety, followed by excerpts from the upcoming Rock Theater installment “Gutter Ballet and The New York Blues Express.” As one of the top selling acts in the world, Trans-Siberian Orchestra has cemented itself as an annual tradition not to be missed. The band has grown to become a year round touring juggernaut, performing what creator/writer/producer Paul O’Neill has dubbed “Rock Theater.” Charting its success and the creation of this genre -- which is part theatrical show, part rock spectacle -- the new PBS Special, “The Birth of Rock Theater,” focuses on O’Neill’s vision for TSO and how he went about creating this art form. Featuring live performances from “Beethoven’s Last Night,” TSO’s gold-certified rock opera fantasy, as well as music from their most recent album “Night Castle,” which debuted at #5 on the Billboard Charts, “The Birth of Rock Theater” is a must see for any TSO fan.

THE BEACHAM 46 N. The results of these factors are in the band’s 4th studio release, Grow Yer Own. The album volleys splendidly throughout...going back and fourth from Operation Ivy speed punk to Sublime licked reggae, and (since the band comes from deep within the Florida Swamplands) at times Dom (drums) & Skart’s (guitar) vocals will emphasize a catchy sing-along “Sweet Home Alabama” type chorus all while keepin’ a groove as deep as Funkadelic.

DECEMBER 2011
All I Want For..
CHRISTMAS
STEVE ROBERTSON - ATLANTIC RECORDS
• I want Spotify to gain serious traction and deliver on its promise to get artists and labels paid! • I want the world to hear the incredible new Shinedown record. • I want to go back to the future and have hit records in 1998 when people still bought CD’s and also prevent Al Gore from inventing the internet.
TIFFANY MARTIN - DOLLFACE (Monsters WTKS) • I would like one of those doggy grass pads cause my 2 year old dog is still not potty trained! • A tour bus for my band.
The Orlando Entertainment Elite offer up their Xmas and New Year wishes.. they can only hope they have been more naughty than nice this year!
•And a raise to afford gas in the tour bus!
JASON BAILEY - BUCKETHEAD (THE BS on WTKS)
ANTHONY PARRULLI - AKA REXX KOXMYTH
• For Casey Anthony to become a stripper so I can pelt her with pennies. • Central Florida conservatives to stop being so damn narrow minded and open up on the gambling law especially this douche nozzle John Sowinski with the no casinos site that keeps spamming my inbox. • A herd of crazy cows to get out and stampede down Church Street for no reason in particular other than It would be cool to see a bunch of cows on Church Street.
• we want a Theremin (best known for making sci-fi sounds or spooky sounds). Not too many Frontmen have ever played the Theremin!
COLLEEN FLYNN - HARD ROCK LIVE
MEL TAYLOR - BAD GIRL’S CLUB (WJRR101.1)
• A portable satellite radio receiver. I am addicted to Satellite radio and I want one that I can carry everywhere! • A magic wand that makes all shows I book an instant sell-out! Do they sell those at Ollivander’s? • Email filters that only let one or two at a time so that I can deal with them fully before opening 20 more. All I want for Christmas is not to have to multi-task to the point of hysteria and confusion.
• to donate with my charity group Mel’s Bad Girls Club over 1,000 toys this holiday season!
ASHLEY BURNS - INTERNATIONAL SCRIBE • Dwight Howard to sign a max deal and stay in Orlando. I’ll buy him three Dude Bombs at Cleo’s each week for his career. Otherwise, his name on the walkout board for the rest of eternity. • Obama to deport the Kardashian’s to North Korea. And North Korea to deport them to Iran. And then Iran to deport them to Siberia. And then Siberia to deport them to the Arctic Circle and then some polar bears to maul them over a period of 12 days. coolest Coca-Cola commercial ever.

3) A drink named after me at Finnhenry’s. when girls would say, “We want a Burnsy” the bartenders would respond, “Wow, you must be wasted.”
www.aXismag.com
• We want the starting salary for school teachers to be raised statewide to $50K per year, its time the important jobs get theirs! • we want to never hear another Nickelback song, or maybe an app that blocks them from being heard in a 100ft. radius from your phone. The app could be “Earstraining Order: Nickelback!”
• Just moved back DT to the Thornton Park.. I want a moped (Or do you say Vespa? Whats cooler?) HELLO BRUNCH! • to have 30 hours in the day...
DAVE MARREN - CLUB FIRESTONE • Original Fender 1962 Stratocaster. I’ve been playing a lot of Gibsons, and I love them, but I’ve always wanted one killer strat for those sexy Hendrix-style jams. • My own dedicated issue of aXis magazine. There’s so much awesome stuff about to happen to downtown Orlando and I want to be able talk about it!! Some pics with the cover girls wouldn’t be bad either. • A water-tower full of rice pudding. I just really love the stuff... I’ll eat China out of the rice industry.

aXis: So why did you pick O-town to celebrate New Years? Is this becoming a sort of home away from home for you guys? Ryan: Florida has always been really good to us. We’ve got a lot of the guys who have like family & friends there, so yeah; it’s definitely like our second home. We’ve been talking about ORL & the people from the hard rock & we’ve played there a bunch of times in the past so it just seemed like a good choice, so we’re going for it. aXis: What are you most excited for while you’re back in Orlando for New Years? Ryan: I’m actually gonna try to go to the park this time. I mean we’ve played there five or six times over the past couple of years and I’ve never really had a chance to go check out the park right around there, Universal Studios & all the rides there. & there’s a couple cool shops around the area too. aXis: We heard you have some fun stuff lined up for the NYE show? Ryan: We can’t divulge much, but I might just have to say that it’s gonna be a really special show. We just want people to come out and have a good time. aXis: You guys are now considered one of the cornerstones of the skunk movement, what bands do you see out on tour that are doing well with the tradition? Ryan: There’s a ton of bands right now doing similar music to what we’re doing, sort of the reggae rock mix. & what’s cool is that every band has it’s own sort of flavor within the style & you know, it’s not really a new style, there’ve been a lot of bands who have sort of done this mesh of reggae, ska, punk, rock, funk. But definitely Fishbone, No Doubt, RHCP from the funk angle. More recently I would say some of the other bands that we love to play with that are doing similar stuff The Supervillains, who are out of Orlando, they’re really great, they do the ska rock thing & some reggae as well. The Expendables are another great band, they’re out of Santa Cruz, CA, they kinda have their own twist, they do a rock almost some heavy metal influence and then back into the reggae rock. Some other great bands like Pacifier, Iration, Agralights (ska, soul, rock-steady thing, more of a classic reggae sound)

aXis: What city or tour stop do you find has the kindest “donations”? Ryan: You know, I’m a West Coast guy, born & raised in California, I’d have to say our California donors are the best, we’ve got some friends up in the Northwest, like Oregon, Seattle, they’re always extremely generous with us, so gotta give a shout out to them. But I’ve definitely gotta lean towards the West Coast for sure, basically from Vancouver, Seattle, Portland of course, on down through California.

aXis: Expecting this NYE to be crazier than the Legalize It Tour from last year? S:Well, we’re hoping so.We always like a good bit of craziness. It helps us play full energy, when there’s a crowd that’s going nuts, you know, we’ll be performing and as crazy as the crowd gets that kinda pumps us up, then the crazier the crowd gets, you hope for that kind of mirror effect when you’re playing. We’re hoping that with New Years, bringing in 2012 it’s gonna be a good one. aXis: What band/artist has been your favorite to tour or collaborate with? Ryan: One of my favorites to collaborate with it G. Love, we’ve been playing with G. Love for years, and G. Love & the Special Sauce have been around for years and they’ve been working super hard & G is a great guy, so we love to collaborate with him. We’ve done some stuff with Barrington Levy in the past, he’s a reggae legend/vocalist. Recently we had Don Carlos on the road with us this summer. Who’s a phenomenal reggae vocalist, Half Pint, another reggae legend. Probably one of my favorite tours we’ve done I’d have to say is touring with Fishbone, no replacing Snoop, the tour we did with Snoop a couple years back was just so awesome. It’s really hard to just pick one artist because every artist or band we’ve played/toured with we all become friends really quick, it’s kinda like saying, “Who’s your best friend?”

The Emotions of Dealing with
Dwight Howard’s Free Agency The end of the NBA lockout was a good news/bad news scenario for us Orlando Magic fans. The good news is that the season is saved and Dwight Howard will suit up and try once again to lead us to a NBA title. The bad news is that we’re in for a hell storm of rumors about D12’s destiny as a free agent after this season. Hell, the trade rumors have already started, with both the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers stepping in, as well as the New Jersey (Brooklyn) Nets, Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics entering the frenzy before this year’s free agency period has even begun. It’s going to be worse than hell, people. It’ll be like hell had sex with a Kardashian and made a baby of flames and body hair. So how do we deal with it? You’re lucky, I started dealing with it last year just so I could help everyone else through it now. I was going to preview the shortened, 66game season in this month’s column (blah blah blah, the Miami Heat will win a title), but instead I’ll walk you through the easiest way that you can cope with the rumors and possible reality of Howard’s End.
1) Anger –
The easiest response is to be angry with Dwight for leaving us. After all, the biggest weapon we have is that Howard rhymes with coward. Get ready to use that plenty when the anger consumes you. But we’ll also be angry with the city for not embracing its most important citizen and we’ll be angriest at Otis Smith for mishandling our star and the roster around him every step of the way.
EVERY SUNDAY 10:30 PM - 2 AM
2) Despair –
A lot of the Johnny-Come-Lately Magic fans weren’t around for the Shaquille O’Neal exodus, but it was nasty. Cleveland at least had the Browns and Indians to fall back on after LeBron James left. We have nothing. The diehard Magic fans are going to feel hopeless and alone if Howard leaves, turning the Amway Center into a walk-in clinic for cutters and jumpers, instead of a venue for championship basketball.
3) Depression –
December 4th - DJ Sandy & James Anthony
Beyond despair exists utter hopelessness and the feeling that there’s no reason to go on. It usually involves sweatpants, fat chicks and really heavy drinking. And not the fun kind of heavy drinking that involves shaving the dog and peeing in your neighbor’s fish tank. This is kind with waking up in a dumpster and wondering where your pinky finger went.
December 11th - DJ Sandy & Richie Rich
4) Rage – DAMN YOU DWIGHT HOWARD!!! WHY DIDN’T YOU JUST SIGN YOUR F*CKING EXTENSION, YOU GREEDY PIECE OF CHICKEN TAINT!!! YOU DESTOROYED OUR CITY AND OUR MAGIC AND I BLAME YOU FOR THE ECONOMY AND STUDENT LOANS AND EARTHQUAKES AND NICKELBACK!!! 5) Shame –
December 18th - DJ Sandy & Jimmy Joslin
Why? Why did I even bother liking the Magic? Am I really this big of a loser? Do I do this to myself on purpose? Should I call my ex-girlfriend who used to beat me with her high-heeled shoes while she put cigarettes out on my ass and called me her “Donkey Slut”? I’m such a worthless douche knob.
6) Abandonment – Dwight’s gone. Soon JJ and Ryno will probably leave. Stan, too. Who wants to stick around a loser like me in a loser town like this? My dog is probably going to pack her bags in the middle of the night and go live with a Heat fan. This is just like when my mom left to get cigarettes that one day and then she came back because she had to get her suitcase and all of her clothes and then she left me forever. Except I doubt that Dwight will occasionally send me postcards calling me a loser and blaming me for everything. Might as well, though.
December 25th - Closed
houseofblues.com/orlando
7) Acceptance or Retreat – Finally, it’s the crossroads. Half of the Magic fans and fine people of this city will see the sun over the horizon and decide that it’s time to pick up the pieces and move on. Heck, if Dallas can win a championship after years of being terrible, then the Magic can draft the right players, sign the right free agents and put together a championship contender, too. Or…

Everyone can bail and become Heat fans, as I fear will be the sad reality. It’s not too late to tell Dwight how you feel and beg him to stay. Maybe try letting him sleep with your sister. Every little effort counts. - Ashley Burns

thanks to my long, luscious locks of hair and my voice... which I am told is like a fusion of Fergie and Jesus... Oh yeah, I make a pretty good drink too.
aXis: What night would you party at your bar if not working and why? Jake: I would go out to Vintage on Thursday
night for one, if not the best ladies night downtown. After all, ladies drink free till midnight.
aXis: Another bar and bartender you call home? Jake: Vixen bar is like my second home. The bartenders there, Liz Ellis, Jessica Leibowitz, and Heather treat everyone like family.
aXis: Favorite event of 2011? Jake: My favorite event this year has to be
Cinco De Mayo. My buddy was home from the Marines to celebrate. I love the way all of downtown turns into a huge block party. Everyone is running around wearing mustaches and getting wasted on Tequila. Also, can’t forget about the Orlando Magic!

aXis: Most outrageous thing that happened at the bar this past year? Jake: The most outrageous thing to happen
this year was having Pitbull film his afterparty at Vintage. He was there with a full camera crew and everything, and having Dennis Rodman in drinking and taking pictures with the crew. The other stories are better left unsaid!
aXis: Best part of the holidays? Jake: The best part about the holidays, are
hands down our loyal guests. Vintage has been open for five years now, and I still see the same faces here. Every year people come home for the holidays and they know they can come back to Vintage for a fun time.
aXis: What’s on the NYE agenda? Jake: Our bar celebrates the only way you

BREWSOME... KEEPING YOU HIP TO THE hops the Holidaze with Mahoney of
World of Beer UCF
Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale
They have been using the same recipe since 1983.This is a classic seasonal American IPA brewed with Cascade, Centennial, and Chinook hops which yields a pine and citrus aroma and flavor. There are zero spices in this beer and it always reminds me of winter, which is why it is a classic for me.
Brooklyn Winter Ale
This is a 6% mahogany colored Scottish Ale, brewed in Brooklyn, with no spices. There is a blend of malts from Scotland, England, Belgium and America, which leads to a sweeter, oppose to hoppy, flavor. The sweetness from the malts, and fact that they come in packs of 6 or 12, usually tends to warm me up a bit.
Boulder Never Summer
One of my favorites this time of year for a reason, it is bold, hearty, and just an overall classic Winter Warmer style. Some chocolate notes, solid hop presence, with a light array of spice characteristics.
Anchor Merry Christmas
Since 1975,Anchor has been brewing a winter seasonal that has been well-spiced and very age-able.The recipe is a ‘top secret’ and can change from year to year. Last year I pulled some big notes of wintergreen out of it. Also, there has always a tree on the label since year one...for those who want to know, this year it is the bristlecone pine.
Rogue Yellow Snow
This American IPA is smooth and hoppy. Using Amarillo and Rogue’s own Revolution hop varietals, this IPA packs a punch for the harsh Florida winter. Originally, this brew was made for the 2000 SLC Winter Olympics, but it became so popular, they now make it every year. Frank Zappa might have said “Don’t eat the yellow snow”, but I would definitely drink this one.
