industry, and is one of the most recognizable comedians in the business. In addition to keeping busy on his current comedy tour “Heavy Metal Family Man,” Breuer can also be heard on his weekly Sirius/ XM Radio show “Fridays with Breuer.” Most recently, Breuer filmed his latest one hour comedy special “Mid Life Madness” which is set to air early next year. The special was filmed at the historical Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, New York. Even as a young student at Valley Stream Central High School in Long Island, NY, Jim Breuer knew he wanted to be a stand-up comedian. After spending several years working comedy clubs across the country, Breuer settled in as a regular on the New York comedy club circuit. After having been in New York for only seven months, Breuer landed a gig on the nationally syndicated television comedy series, “Uptown Comedy Club,” where he spent two seasons. However, Breuer’s big break came in 1995 when he joined the cast of NBC’s legendary “Saturday Night Live.” During his four years on SNL, Breuer quickly became a fan-favorite for his original character “Goat Boy” and his dead-on impressions of actor Joe Pesci. Following his success on “SNL,” Breuer starred alongside Dave Chappelle in the cult favorite film “Half Baked.” He has since appeared in the popular films “Zookeeper,”“Dick,”“Titan A.E.” and “Beer League.”

GONE GREEN SUN, MAR

TY’S DAY //AXIS ANNUAL ST PAT SURVIVAL GUIDE

IT SHOULD BE OFFICIAL! Folks around the world are once again laboring to bring St. Patrick’s day to the national holiday level. And, let’s be honest. Who wouldn’t want a day off work, school or spring break just to drink like the Irish. Now, we know the real sentiments behind March 17th don’t necessarily revolve around drinking, but that’s probably all the aXis staff will do anyway. Want to learn more? Here’s what the guys at our favorite pub had to say: “Dear President “O’Bama,” Congratulations. Americans have somewhat embraced your platform for change and now it’s time to make decisions. Tough decisions. But why not start with a fun, easy one? Take St. Patrick’s Day, for instance. We, the fine folks that drink Guinness, have always felt the energy alive inside the American people surrounding this holiday, which has inspired us to invite a national movement to make St. Patrick’s Day the biggest official party ever! Maybe make an amendment, sign it into law, or just raise a pint and get the masses to register for a chance to visit Dublin (where you say you are officially from an all), and let’s make this the biggest party ever! (Visit www.Guinness.com to download your app... find the perfect pint anywhere!)

HANGOVER CURES FOR MARCH 18th

The worst part about drinking is most definitely the next day. Hopefully these tricks can help out a little with the headache, and lead to less worshiping of the porcelain God(dess) the next day. - Pickle Juice: The base of the pickle juice should help absorb the alcohol. - Sunlight: Probably the last thing you want to do is head out into the sun. However, the sun’s rays contain a lot of vitamins you’ll need to fight that hangover. - Vitamin C: This is what the alcohol absorbs from your body. Tank up on O.J. - Bread and Water: The best thing here is if you’re sober enough to do it before you crash for the night. Make yourself drink a big glass of water and chow down on some crackers. If you can handle that before you pass out, you’ll cut the hangover effect in HALF in the morning. - H2O: DUH. You’re hungover because you’re dehydrated. Drink water, all day.

REASONS TO CELEBRATE ON MARCH 17th, EVEN IF YOU AREN’T IRISH

1. You start drinking in the morning and no one calls you an alcoholic 2. Irish car bombs are so good! 3. You can kiss every girl in a “Kiss Me I’m Irish” shirt 4. EVERYONE in every bar you crawl to will be just as drunk as you, including the bar staff 5. Getting lucky after many rounds of Guinness 6. March Madness! 7. When else can you drink green beer? 8. Guinness 9. Harp 10. Guinness + Harp!

WHO: Dropkick Murphys ST Patricks Day Tour with Old Man Markley / Jim Lockey & The solemn Sun

combination of the Red Sox

reliever John Papelbon spraying champagne to the beat, and Jack Nicholson wacking Southies to the soundtrack, helped propel this Beantown band from a steel toed mosh outfit to a mainstream party band. Having established their cult following with their aggressive, anthem chanting performances, the Dropkick Murphy’s are now just another great punk rock act from the Northeast... that incorporates bagpipes, banjos, flutes and accordians in their ‘rock!’ We got a few words in with lead man Al Barr about these Irishmen by way of Boston, that have solidifed themselves as a St Patty’s Day staple. Kicking off their ‘St Patrick’s Day Tour’ in support of their eight studio album SIGNED AND SEALED IN BLOOD, which includes future party anthems like the “Boys Are Back.” And if you do happen to get at ticket to their House of Blues date on March 2nd, we wouldn’t necessarily advise against those boots. aXis: You’ve had just about every label placed on you at this point. So are you punk, rock, party anthem, Irish folk rock? AL BARR: Opinions vary. For me, we have the ferocity and the backbone and the ethos of punk. aXis: How did the mash up of Irish folk and punk come about? BARR: You’re talking to the one guy in the band who doesn’t have any Irish blood in him! Everyone else in the band has got some Irish blood. The first song that the band wrote, “Barroom Hero,” had bagpipes on it. We could have always done it in the studio, but we decided that if we couldn’t recreate that onstage then it was kind of cheesey. aXis: It wasn’t overnight success, with World Series champs and Academy Award winning director’s calling. Were there any moments early on where you wondered if it was worth it? BARR: Oh yeah! There’s times when you think, “Shit, is this worth it?” You have to look back at what you were doing before and what it took to get where you are. You get to a point where you throw caution to the wind and take a chance. aXis: Is critical success more important than having a hit with fans? BARR: Absolutely not. I’d rather have the critics saying that the album sucks and make sure that the fans were happy with it. We write for ourselves and for the fans, not for any critics. At the end of the day, that’s just somebody’s opinion.

WHERE: House of Blues WHEN: Sun, March 2nd INFO: 407.934.2583 aXis: You have been outspoken on the digital revolution of music buying and sharing. Has it taken the fun out of the CD and record release concept? It just killed it all, I don’t mean it killed it all in a sense that it’s dead, but I don’t how to function, it’s different... The ritual of buying a record, the waiting for it to come out, the going to the store to get it, the LP, the artwork, the liner notes, the pictures, the lyrics -- all of it, it’s a ritual! All of those things, they’ve all been whittled down to this little fucking, sterile sound bite. It’s taken all the lust out of it, there’s no passion anymore. aXis: What advice would you give kids who want to pursue a career in the music industry? BARR: Be ready and willing to pay your dues and suffer a lot, and it still may never happen. You just can’t give up. You have to believe in yourself, when no one does and everyone else says you suck. aXis: So being from Mass, did you happen to swing right and vote for Mitt last Nov? BARR: Well, you got people with names like Mitt and Newt, those are dogs’ names. What’s a Mitt, what the fuck is a Newt? Ain’t that like a gecko, like a little lizard? And Mitt… we met him. When we got involved with the Red Sox, they had us play City Hall and the State House, and we kind of got the run of the place after we performed. He caught our old guitar player sticking dinner rolls into his pocket. He was like, ‘We can get you a doggie bag if you want?’ That was our interaction with Mitt Romney.

SOUNDCHECK Seven Nations is not your father’s Celtic band. With a passionate, tender, and rollicking style that winningly veers from roots and folk to dance and fusion-rock, Seven Nations has earned a growing reputation as an adventurous band with a charismatic stage presence. So you guys have pretty much been around the world, but we welcome you home for the ‘holiday’ being a semi-local. How does Florida compare to the rest of your tour stops, on both the overall music fan side, and the Irish party side? Kirk: Thanks very much. The first thing that stands out about the Florida stops is how many people we see that know the band from elsewhere in the country or Canada. They always say..” What are you doing here?” ... and we always reply “No....what are YOU doing here?” ...Messes with our heads sometimes, but always good:) Florida can party Irish with the best of them. New York, Boston... Southside...just give them the right environment like Wall Street right? What towns foreign or stateside are the most welcoming? Kirk: Wow....we started the band in New York City years ago and have always been transient so, we never had the luxury of a home base.Whole regions like the Carolinas, Colorado, Northern California, the upper Midwest and greater New York have always been good to us.We’ve had surprises like Edinburgh, Scotland...Lancaster, England..and my favorite... San Juan, Puerto Rico. Bagpipes and fiddle?...Who would have thought? How many skymiles do you put on the month of March and Sept, it seems you guys are on every Irish Fest!? Do you feel like you have to tour year round? Kirk: Our touring through the season is definitely festival driven so there is not a lot of geographical reasoning to it.We’re usually doing two flights a week, meeting up with the truck, flying home for a few, then doing it again next week.We don’t feel like we have to tour year round but its best to keep busy.Wintering in Florida is good!! You are one of the more mainstream acts to crossover from the Irish theme, how are your diehard fans when you start leaning more to the straight forward stuff? Kirk: I have to tell you, we’ve lost a few along the way. But then again we’ve gained new ones and have even gotten a few back. No matter what kind of circumstance we like to throw our traditional learnings of Celtic music into, we always strive to maintain the integrity of what we have been taught and hope that that shines through. You mentioned you are doing studio work for other musicians now, what type of projects are you working on? Kirk: Oh, well I have a studio here in Orlando. This past winter has had kind of a country theme I guess. Just finished a complete CD start to finish for a talented up and coming singer songwriter from New York, Jamey Kelley. There’s a duet with Crystal Gail and a song with the Harlem choir on there. Also, just finished something for Billy McKnight and the Soul Circus Cowboys. We’re up next! Not to be cliche, but how many beers does the band consume on an average show night?! Kirk: Who told you we drink beer?

BREWSCHOOL...

KEEPING YOU HIP TO THE hops

GET LUCKY WITH THE ULTIMATE THREESOME THIS ST. PATTY’S DAY!

Irish-American tradition typically means bragging about having a general Irish sounding last name, eating corned beef and cabbage, pounding a few pints of Guinness and listening to Dropkick Murphys non-stop one day a year. Here are the most popular brews for the day that everyone wants to be a soulless redhead with freckles and places a O’ before their last name.

Guinness (4.2% Dry Irish Stout):

- Studies claim that Guinness is beneficial to the heart - Guinness is relatively low in calories, so dark doesn’t mean heavy. - Arthur Guinness created several welfare packages for his employees, such as burial expenses, free meals to employee children, beer allowances, free train tickets, jobs for widows, etc. This made them one of the first businesses to do so.

Also from the great country potatoes & whiskey:

Harp Lager (5.0% European Pale Lager)

-Light, easy drinking golden brew. Lightly hopped, light body, and an easy beer to keep you going inbetween Irish Car Bombs. Magner’s Irish Cider (4.5% Cider): -called Bulmer’s in Ireland, the rest of the world calls it Magner’s Smithwick’s (5.0% Irish Red Ale): -mixes well with Harp for a true Snakebite (half lager - it’s pronounced Smiddick’s, first and foremost…get it & half cider) right or look like an idiot. -layer it with Guinness for a Poor Man’s Black Velvet -Ireland’s oldest brewery, est. 1710 by John Smithwick (note: this is not a Snakebite nor a true Black Velvet. and Richard Cole. John’s name sounded better. A true Black Velvet is Guinness and Champagne) -Sold to Guinness in 1965. -The recipe we have today was originally created as a Slainte! special brew for the first ever Kilkenny Beer Fest.

So for the condo canine roomie, what’s the best schedule for them to be on to get enough exercise? Lindsay: Well most dogs have peaks of energy in the early morning and then again in the late afternoon, so getting them out around those times can help to reduce excess energy that can lead to destructive behavior or anxiety. Any toys, or other tricks to keep the condo canine busy during the day? Lindsay: Everyone probably has a Kong to stuff with peanut butter and other goodies, but there are lots of other toys that can not only keep your dog entertained but can actually make them smarter while you are away at work! Check out some interactive dog puzzle toys, they challenge your dog’s problem solving skills and can actually help them to be more responsive to training!

OPHY S O L I H P E H T Y OF MIXOLOG

WINTER PARK

Zach Lynch

www.prato-wp.com 124 N. PARK AVENUE aXis: So, the mixology craze is hitting a fever pitch in Orlando. When someone asks you, ‘what is mixology’ how do you describe it, and your overall philosophy on a great drink? Zach: When i think of mixology i think about taking my guest on a journey. Using only the freshest ingredients and craft liquors help a lot to build a great cocktail. My philosophy for a drink usually ends up in a triangle. At the top i put my base liquor and at the other two corners i put sweet and sour/bitter. Many other factors into play but if i can throw my cocktail like a dart i try and aim right into the middle of that triangle.. aXis: When looking for a new flavor or drink, what are your goals, based on that philosophy and the clientele at? Zach: I usually look at my chefs for inspiration for the seasonal concoctions at Prato. My goal is to make a great cocktail that will have great depth as well as drinkability for my customers. And as i said above i usually follow that triangle of flavors. aXis: What seems to be the most popular vodka based drink at Prato? Zach: Our most popular drink at Prato is our Cetriolo. It’s Crop cucumber vodka, fresh lime juice, agave nectar, basil, and white cranberry juice. Deliciousness!. aXis: How about whiskey? Zach: Since i came upon my polyscience cold smoker i have been cranking out applewood smoked old fashions like its going out of style.

aXis: For the novice, any suggestions, when trying to order ‘to impress’ a date? Zach: I would always just ask your bartender what they are feeling. Most bartenders will pull something out that they love to drink or what they have been playing with. Almost always a crowd pleaser. aXis: How about ‘healthy’ drinks? Zach: I know that aloe has been hitting the stores as a healthy drink and ive played with that, gin, and cucumber. But no matter the “heathyness” of a cocktail hopefully you should always feel great after a few. aXis: Any bartender you patronize? Zach: Being the President of the Orlando Bartenders Guild I meet so many great “Cocktailians” in town and from all over the country, but i would say if you love whisky like I do, theres no better than Brian Hanson at Lizzys downtown. He makes some great cocktails, very knowledgeable, and has the voice like if Tom Waits was in a choir. aXis: Favorite drink at another bar? Zach: I usually stick to whisky based cocktails. I love all the variations on old fashions. aXis: What’s on the menu in March? Zach: I’ve got two great new cocktails. “Farewell to Arms” has Diplimatico anejo rum, Shrub and Co grapefruit shrub, Velvet Falernum, lime juice, and Bitterman’s burlesque bitters. And my new Amaro cocktail has Nonino Amaro, Buffalo trace, and Aperol.

“No matter the “heathyness” of a cocktail hopefully you should always feel great after a few!”
