2D / 2.5 D / 3D COMPOSITIONS Pratt Summer Immersion 2017

The goal of this exercise was to utilize figure and void as the foundational components in a design composition. The project took inspiration from an 18th century illustration by Giovanni Piranesi which distinctively re-imagined a Roman city. Figures derived from the Piranesian illustration were composed into 2-dimensional, 2.5-dimensional, and 3-dimensional forms.

TEXTURE AND MAPPING Pratt Summer Immersion 2017

II

The challenge of this project was to develop a new familiarity with 3-D form through the introduction of textures and graphics that change the experience of the object. This architectural object was developed through a creation process that involved 3-D modelling, CNC milling, and vacuum forming.

III MANILA ART CENTER Undergraduate Work 2012 The aim of the project was to provide a public space for the production, distribution, and consumption of art in the city of Manila. It was conceived through a series of interviews with artists in the nearby Escolta area (a neglected historical district currently undergoing urban renewal by the Philippine Heritage Society, ICOMOS, and various local groups); the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA); and Manila City Hall’s Engineering and Planning Office. Key features of the project include the integration of a Light Rail Transit Station (LRT Line 2 – Manila Art Center) at the building’s roof deck, a glass façade facing the old Metropolitan Theatre, and an outdoor public art market.

MANILA FORUM Undergraduate Work 2012 The Manila Forum was conceived as a community space which, oddly enough, was borne from an investigation of the city’s tourism program. The aim of the project is to deepen the existing relationship between people and place. It is a venue for sharing the city’s history, while providing a space for active discourse and democratic communication for citizens and communities. Spaces include exhibit halls, galleries, a library, a tourist center, leasable lecture halls, and leasable commercial units for community enterprises.

UST MUSEUM, MANILA Undergraduate Work 2011 The project is located at the heart of Manila’s historic district, Intramuros. The project seeks to create unique and exciting public interactions in the area. At the same time, it also seeks to address perceived problems in Intramuros which contribute to the whole user experience of the Walled City. Goals of the project include providing a starting point for discovering Intramuros, providing an open and interactive user experience, and alleviating parking and connectivity problems in the surrounding area. The architectural experience is conceived to be permeable, non-linear, and ascending.

Golden Acres Haven for the Elderly, Quezon City Undergraduate Work 2012 The objective of the project was to produce a case study to investigate and develop solutions for a selected government funded facility. For this project we chose to study Golden Acres, a residential facility managed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). It is one of 3 residential care facilities for neglected and abandoned older persons in the Philippines. Methodologies employed in the investigation include extensive photo documentation, developing a standard checklist for site investigation based on researched guidelines and global best practices; and interviews with project stakeholders.

While the myriad issues faced by the facility go beyond the design – the approach we took was to create a hierarchy of incremental initiatives that target a long-term vision. We provided simple to moderate recommendations supported by architectural drawings. These included transferring and centralizing common facilities (i.e. laundry, kitchen, water tank, infirmary); adding new facilities – a public plaza, a wider garden, and a chapel; conversion of an unused cottage to a staff dormitory; renovation of Coson Hall into an open-air multipurpose area; and addressing the heat by installing covered walk-ways, improving cross ventilation within buildings, and planting of trees at strategic locations.

LAGUNA LAKE PRESERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

SOUTHEAST METRO MANILA EXPRESSWAY (SEMME)

The proposed project is targeted towards the holistic and long-term preservation of Laguna Lake, Metro Manila’s flood basin and main source of fresh water fish. The project is comprised of four inter-related components : 1. A 9.4-kilometer underground flood-mitigation tunnel 2. Lake maintenance dredging 3. 2,000 hectares of land reclamation and development 4. A 47-kilometer expressway For a period of 3 years, I’ve managed the project development of an Unsolicited PPP Proposal for submission to the Philippine National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). This included the writing and development of several Technical and Financial Feasibility Studies, in coordination with various consultants and government technical working groups.

The project is a 2.8-kilometer expressway, which is Phase-1 of the overall 34-kilometer expressway. I managed the bid preparation for the Engineering Procurement Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) contract. The job is set to be awarded in Q1 of 2018.

BULACAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

BORACAY AIRPORT EXPANSION

The proposed project is a 2,500-hectare (6,177-acre) international airport with four runways. During its initial stages, I assisted in the development of its Unsolicited PPP Proposal for submission to the Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTR) and National Economic Development Authority (NEDA). The project was awarded an Original Proponent Status (OPS) in September 2017 and is currently under process to undergo Swiss Challenge.

Muhibbah is the acting Project Manager for the Boracay Airport expansion. The job consists of expanding the airport’s runway; upgrading airport facilities, air traffic control, and navigation equipment; and expanding the main terminal building. I acted at an auxiliary capacity in undertaking a joint review of project design proposals.

MANILA STREETCAR FEASIBILITY STUDY

CASTING YARD FOR PSC–I AASHTO GIRDERS

The project consists of a proposal for the development and operations of a 6-hectare casting yard for Pre-stressed Concrete Standard I-beam AASHTO (PSC-I AASHTO) girders. The project was conceived in connection with the SEMME project as a Joint Venture with a local company to supply girders for the 2.8-kilometer expressway project as well as other expressway projects set to be undertaken in Metro Manila.

The project is a feasibility study to assess the potential viability of several proposed alignments and routes for a streetcar system to be implemented in the city of Manila. The purpose of the study is to provide the necessary technical data, preliminary operations concept, preliminary capital and operations costing, and preliminary economic cost-benefit analysis to be utilized by the Client to make informed investment decisions. I managed the development of the study and undertook its writing in coordination with technical consultants.

In developing the project proposal, I led a team of 3 engineers to undertake extensive study into fabrication methods, processes, and operations. We conducted research on different mold/formworks systems, visited similar casting yard operations in Malaysia, and developed schematic drawings for the casting yard and its facilities in-house.

ANVAYA COVE GOLF AND LEISURE RESORT

ANVAYA HORIZON POINT

Anvaya Horizon Point is a neighborhood comprised of 4 blocks and 35 houses. Careful planning had gone into keeping the natural lay of the land, preserving indigenous trees, and maximizing views of the golf course and seaside. I assisted in the master planning of the neighborhood, crafted content for key presentations, and produced the necessary drawings and plans to secure development permits.

Anvaya Cove is a 470-hectare (1,161-acre) seaside residential community with a 3.5-kilometer coastline and an 18-hole championship golf course, considered to be one of the best in Asia. I assisted in project management, design review, and coordination of Anvaya Cove neighborhoods and facilities. This included supervising finishing works, turnover, and opening of the Golf Clubhouse and Sports Clubhouse; supervising construction works of 5-story walk-up apartments; and assisting in the master planning of 2 neighborhoods.

20

ANVAYA SEA BREEZE VERANDAS

ANVAYA PARKWAY VISTA

Anvaya Parkway Vista is a neighborhood comprised of 12 blocks and 78 residential allotments. I assisted in the master planning of the neighborhood, crafted content for key presentations, and produced the necessary drawings and plans to secure development permits.

Anvaya Sea Breeze Verandas is a neighborhood of 6 low-rise condominium buildings that offer ready-to-move in units. We conducted site supervision on the construction of the third building, the neighborhood pool, and community recreation facilities twice a week. I also assisted in design reviews for Phase 2 of the development, which included 3 additional buildings.

21

THE COURTYARDS

The Courtyards is a 130-hectare (321-acre) residential community with 238 residential allotments in various configurations. I assisted in the master planning of the neighborhood, crafted content for key presentations, and produced the necessary drawings and plans to secure development permits. The master plan was inspired by the lay of the land – meandering greenways and gently rolling slopes. Indigenous trees and waterways were preserved as much as possible. Each block is provided with a community courtyard and access to an integrated system of greenways. Apart from the central clubhouse which acts as a community center, neighborhood amenities such as bike trails, dog walks, and outdoor gym sets, are scattered in key areas along the greenways.

IX AMIRA EVENTS PLACE Freelance Project Amira is a 5,384-square meter (1.3-acre) leasable events place for weddings, parties, and community events. The project was conceived together the Client, a local property developer; and my design partner, Jaeger Teh. It consists of a flexible multi-purpose hall (convertible to two halls through an acoustically treated operable wall partition), two landscaped gardens, and a generous parking area; which was also conceived to host a neighborhood flea market and an annual Christmas bazaar.

We produced the architectural, interior design, and landscape design for the project; and conduct weekly site supervision work. The project is currently under construction and is set to complete by January of 2018.
