Modern Japanese Poolhouse and Garden Freelance Project: Architecture + Landscape This project creates zones for various activities to unfold across a 1-hectare residential garden. The experience begins from the interior space of the living room and transitions into a calm courtyard with the option of a water feature. Anticipation builds as guests are ushered down a grand staircase that leads to the garden foyer. Various landscape zones were envisioned to connote a variety of ambiances: mystery, ease, escape, and expanse. The pool house, nestled between trees is conceived to be a tranquil refuge from the everyday activities of the main house. Various options and configurations were explored as we worked with the Client to build the story of their dream garden.

LORENZ ANA RESIDENCE Option 1: Poolside Bar The first option explores the idea of a terraced poolside bar across the main house and the pool house secluded towards the side of the house. This option preserves a wide expanse of lawn visible from the courtyard overlooking the garden.

Option 2: Bleachers and Patio This second option explores the idea of a wooden deck by the basketball court which can be used as an outdoor living space to entertain guests. The swimming pool is configured length-wise from the house, allowing for a bigger pool house.

Option 3: Organic forms The third option explores organic paths that lead guests to a secluded pool house and swimming pool. Along the way, pockets of surprise. Conceptual Storyboard • The garden is conceived as a collection of varied ambiances.

Pool House Option 1 Once the big picture concept of the garden was in place, ideas for the pool house were explored in more detail with two options. The first option creates five primary zones within the pool house: a dining area, kitchen/bar area, living area, bathroom and shower, and pool deck.

Conceptual study for lush tropical garden • View from garden expanse

Tree Planting Plan incorporating more colorful trees.

Landscape Concepts After firming up the main concept of the pool house, the landscape narrative was further explored. A plant palette was conceived taking into account pre-existing trees and landscape features, while incorporating color and flowering plants that add variety and life to the garden. Lighting is another feature of the garden, as both day and night experiences were taken into account. It was important to hide the pool house behind lush trees to obstruct a direct view from the upper courtyard. Behind the pool house, a moss garden was conceived to create a vista for the interior spaces. At the grand staircase, flowering plants and shrubs were conceived to create a colorful vista from the garden. The basketball court is obstruccted from view by large mango trees. Overall, the goal is to create a lush, natural feel.

CAVITE MAUSOLEUM Simple and Elegant Final Resting Place

Freelance Project: Architecture The project is a 50-square meter family mausoleum with two stories. The first story contains the ancestral tombs and family columbarium, a sitting area for prayer and meditation, comfort room, and pantry. The second story contains a mezzanine and balcony that acts as another sitting area. The design of the facade incorporates a motif of three portals which is carried over the interior of the structure. An ambiance of lightness is preserved through the use of natural and artificial lighting that highlights the volumetric height of the building. I executed the architectural design and authorship of the structure, as well as carried out site supervision work.

Floor Plan and Reflected Ceiling Plan The floor plan incorporates sitting areas for contemplation, bathroom area, and pantry. Large windows and doors flood the space with light, and two chandeliers hang at 5.40 meters. The building in section creates a difference in height to lend a sense of intimacy to the interior space. Mirrors are introduced reflect back the sense of proportion evident in the facade. The space is conceived to be light, elegant, and minimal.

SAN JUAN RESIDENCE Sophisticated and Elegant Renovation Works

Freelance Project: Architecture The project consists of the renovation of 300-square meters of the first storey of a two-storey residence. Renovation works include remodelling of living area, dining area, kitchen, hallways, and bathroom. A clean and elegant look was achieved through proportion, the balance of design elements, lighting, and the repetition of simple motifs. Great care was taken in highlighting the various openings or “portals” of the house. Adding thickness to the walls to create a bolder statement. Attention was placed on highlighting the simple and elegant proportions of the space.

Anvaya Horizon Point

Anvaya Sea Breeze Verandas

Anvaya Horizon Point is a neighborhood comprised of 4 blocks and 35 houses. Careful planning had gone into keeping the natural lay of the land, preserving indigenous trees, and maximizing views of the golf course and seaside. I assisted in the master planning of the neighborhood, crafted content for key presentations, and produced the necessary drawings and plans to secure development permits.

Anvaya Sea Breeze Verandas is a neighborhood of 6 low-rise condominium buildings that offer ready-to-move in units. We conducted site supervision on the construction of the third building, the neighborhood pool, and community recreation facilities twice a week. I also assisted in design reviews for Phase 2 of the development, which included 3 additional buildings.

The Courtyards The Courtyards is a 130-hectare (321-acre) residential community with 238 residential allotments in various configurations. I assisted in the master planning of the neighborhood, crafted content for key presentations, and produced the necessary drawings and plans to secure development permits. The master plan was inspired by the lay of the land – meandering greenways and gently rolling slopes. Indigenous trees and waterways were preserved as much as possible. Each block is provided with a community courtyard and access to an integrated system of greenways. Apart from the central clubhouse which acts as a community center, neighborhood amenities such as bike trails, dog walks, and outdoor gym sets, are scattered in key areas along the greenways.
