The Greenfleets Stadium Haywood Way Aylesbury Bucks HP19 9WZ

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Haywood Way for todays league game against Baldock Town FC. We come into the game on the back of a gutsy midweek away performance at Harefield Utd, which saw us gain a hard earned point and included 8 different starters from last weekends disaapointing performance and loss at Leighton. At Harefield in the 2nd half we competed very well and showed a lot of character to come from behind and at one point looked like we could win it but we were punished for a momentary lapse from a corner. I have started to make additions to the squad as you will have seen in the past couple of weeks as I certainly feel we have been light on experience in some key areas and I’m addressing that at the moment. Some of the lads who dropped out of the squad following the recent additions, will drop down into our development squad to gain much needed match time and build their confidence and we’ll assess things from there with them. Since my last notes, I’m delighted to have been able to appoint Davis Haule to work with me as my assistant and he will continue to play and our young players will certainly learn from him. Davis is well known to everyone at the club having played under me previously and also managed the team as well. Welcome back Davis. Thanks for your continued support and patience as I continue to shape the future for bigger and better things on the pitch for the club to match the excellent progress we are making off it.

Dynamos HISTORY Aylesbury Vale Dynamos is an amalgamation of Aylesbury FC and Bedgrove Dynamos, two local clubs with a rich history in local football. Aylesbury FC enjoyed a long history in senior and junior football dating back to the 1930’s under the previous names of Aylesbury Vale, Haywood United, Belgrave, Stocklake and Negretti and Zambra FC, which was founded in the 1930’s by workers at the Negretti and Zambra company then based in London’s King Cross district. The company moved to the Stocklake Industrial Estate, Aylesbury. in 1949 and by the mid 50’s the premises had a bar, football, cricket and tennis facilities. The football club joined the Aylesbury District League in 1954. The social club changed its name to Stocklake when Negretti and Zambra sold the premises to the local council, who then leased the facilities; hence the different sections adopted the name Stocklake. Under the guidance of Chairman Mr Ernie Crotty, the club gained many honours including runners up in ADL’s top divisions, before gaining intermediate status in the Wycombe and District League first and senior divisions. Sadly Ernie was killed in a road accident just before the club moved premises to the present location at Haywood Way in 1987. After gaining senior status and promotion to the Chiltern League in 1988, Stocklake enjoyed many further successes including Division One runners up in 1991, Premier Division and League Cup runners up the following season and Wycombe Senior Cup success in 1995. Cup success was also followed on in the following season, this time the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup being added to the trophy cabinet. Belgrave FC was formed in 1983 by Jim Sullivan who lived in nearby Belgrave Road. Jim had two sons who were passionate about football but were limited to where they could play, so formed a team himself with the help of neighbours Lynne and David Hatcher. By 1990, under the guidance of Danny Martone, Belgrave had grown to five youth teams providing football for over ninety boys from the Quarrendon and Haydon Hill areas of Aylesbury. 1996 saw the forming of two senior teams under the Belgrave FC name and by the turn of the millennium teams were represented at all levels from Under 8’s through to seniors, At the start of the 2000/2001 season, the senior Belgrave FC team was renamed Haywood United following an amalgamation with Stocklake FC with Danny Martone voted in as chairman of the new club. Haywood United joined the Spartan South Midlands League and won promotion into Division One after two seasons. Notable achievements during the 2001/2002 season included league awards for the best kept and most improved ground; this included the erection of floodlights and perimeter fencing, which Danny and his hard working committee fought hard to establish. Season 2002/2003 saw a difficult start in Division One, but with the arrival of manager Jon Franklin and his assistant Keith Walker just after Christmas, the club eventually consolidated finishing in 9th place. Promotion was gained to the South Midlands Premier Division the following year after a campaign that saw 23 wins, 7 draws and only 4 losses. Haywood United proved themselves capable of staying in the Premier Division after finishing 3rd in the 2004/2005 season in a campaign that only include one loss in the twenty matches after Christmas. The club also entered the FA Cup and Vase for the first time and won the Buckingham Charity Cup in 2006. Season 2006/2007 began with Haywood United becoming Aylesbury Vale FC and saw Keith Walker and Steve Gleinster take over as joint managers and steadily build a squad. This was recognised in the 2008/2009 season, under the management of Mark Eaton, with a good cup run in the FA Cup and FA Vase, winning three rounds in the FA Cup losing to Level 4 side Gosport after a replay, and losing out in the 4th round of the FA Vase to Leiston Town. . After Christmas the side suffered due to long term injuries and finished mid table. May 2009 saw a major new development in a new semi professional side vote for a name change. Aylesbury Football Club was formed under the leadership of Chairman Roger Dance and assisted by Vice Chairman Danny Martone

Dynamos HISTORY Former Chairman Bill Harrison was made President of the club. Great success on the field of play was to follow, with the team having a fantastic run in the F.A. Cup. We were the last 'level five' team in the country to remain in the competition and were rewarded with a visit to Haywood Way for the F.A. Cup trophy, allowing the team, supporters and local people to get their hands on this famous trophy and make the most of this memorable occasion. We were finally knocked out of the competition by Wealdstone in a close game. A brave and superb display was witnessed by a bumper crowd of 800 plus. Meanwhile, away from the midst of F.A. Cup drama, our success continued, becoming 'Double Winners' Winning both the Spartan South Midland League and League Cup capping an extraordinary season and gaining promotion to the Southern League Division 1 Central. Steve Bateman took over in 2013/14, steered the club to safety in his first 6 months in charge. Then in 2014/15 with Bateman at the helm FC has their most successful season to date most successful to date. Playing at the highest level in the club’s history, the team finished third in the League, having been pushing for promotion all season and narrowly lost out in the semi final to Bedworth United having already beaten them twice in the league. the 2015/16 finished with a flourish as the club finished just outside the play off positions, but had the consolation of our first major Cup Final, beating Chesham United in the Berks & Bucks Cup at Windsor. Steve Bateman and his management team resigned at the end of the season and Danny Gordon & Gareth Risbridger took the helm , supported by Paul Bonham , Ryan Wiffin & Aaron Norman. Davis Haule took over from Gordon & Risbridger in December 2016, appointed brother Brian as his assistant and recruited former coaches Fraser McLachlan, Aaron Wiffin and added Ryan Collings to his back room staff for the 2017/18 season. In 2018/19 Scott Reynolds was appointed manager and when he resigned midway through the season it was left to Paul Bonham to take control but because of ground grading issues the Southern League made the decision to relegate the club and so after ten seasons in the Southern League. Phil Granville and Ben Gill were appointed midway through last season and will kick off the 2020/21 season again in the Spartan Premier Division. Steve Bateman was re appointed as manager in September 2021 Bedgrove Dynamos Alf Buckland, a resident of Finmere Crescent, formed Bedgrove Dynamos in 1968. It was created to fill a void in activities for boys within the Bedgrove area on the south side of Aylesbury. In 1980, Dave Bayliss became involved when he brought his Cub side to the Bedgrove Park. The teams amalgamated and Dave went on to be the chairman for 21 years, stepping down in the year 2000. Within two years and barely a full strip between them, they managed not only to win the Under 12's Aylesbury & District League (ADL), but went on to win the 13's & 14's league in consecutive years and, by which time, they now had four teams at various age groups. Over the years the club has grown and has won many tournaments and trophies, especially at county level. Many teams have toured abroad and the club has also entertained boys from Europe and America. We can boost that we are the only boys club to have a club pennant on display in Barcelona's trophy room. At the start of the season 2001/02 the club was the largest junior club in the Aylesbury area, running teams from under 8's through to under 18's. At the end of the season 2001/02 the club managed to win the coveted Berks and Bucks Cup at under 14's, the Mayor's Cup at under 12's, represented in two other cup finals, won 3 league titles, gained 6 promotions in total and all teams finished in the top 6 to the fairplay awards for their respective leagues. In the last 20 seasons across the age groups the club has won 25 divisional titles, and runners up 20 times. In 2019 two became one when the sides amalgamated with the intention of allowing the youth of the town to progress through junior football to youth and then adult football and play at the highest possible level.

Meet The MANAGEMENT Steve BATEMAN – Manager Bateman has enjoyed an illustrious non-league career, starting his playing days with Hemel Hempstead before joining Everton, where he went on to win the FA Youth Cup before later playing more than 300 games for both Chesham United and Slough Town. His managerial career started at Chesham but he also managed Berkhamsted Town, guiding them to a memorable FA Vase final at Villa Park, and local rivals Hemel Hempstead who he led to promotion to the Southern Premier League. Bateman was appointed Aylesbury boss in 2013, replacing Craig Faulconbridge, and spearhead a strong promotion push in 2014/15 finishing third to Royston and Kettering, Aylesbury's highest ever league position, before losing out in the play-offs to Bedworth. Bates then bought the biggest trophy back to Haywood Way when in 2016 Aylesbury defeated Chesham United 1-0 in the Berks and Bucks Cup Final at Windsor FC before departing the club at the end of that season. He then returned to Berkhamsted, this time gaining promotion from the Spartan South Midlands League in April 2018 before two succesful seasons in the the Southern League, helping them to a 6th place finish in his first season before ending season 19/20 in top place prior to the null and void decision due to Covid. Steve's then teamed up with Lee Bircham and Hemel Hempstead Town in the National League South before ending their tenure earlier this month.

Davis HAULE – Assistant Manager Davis is a Haywood Way legend and returns to Steve Bateman's management team as Assistant Manager. He will also be an important player in the middle of the park. Last Time OUT Saturday 23rd Oct 2021 Leighton Town 2 AVDFC 0 Team: Dan McAteer; Luke Nugent, Paolo Bagatti, Terry Griffiths, Jon Munday; Roy Byron, Alfi Touceda, Matty Chew, Callum Shortt, Jake Baldwin; Montel Brown Subs: Davide Pobbe, Jack Hodgins, Dan Ball, Dan Boateng, Paul Adam The Dynamos travelled to local rivals, Leighton Town, on Saturday afternoon and a crowd of 449 fans turned up to watch. A few changes with Roy Byron, Paolo Bagatti and Montel Brown all back in the starting line up as Steve Bateman changed things around as he searches for his preferred line up. The first action of the match was for the Linesman who got cramp after just 4 minutes, but was just able to continue. Leighton started well and created an early chance which Dan McAteer made the save, however, on 9 minutes, Leighton scored as a long range effort seemed to go in slow motion as it crept into the far corner. Poor goal to concede. 1-0 Leighton. Jake Baldwin, operating on the left wing managed to swing in a decent cross but Montel Brown didn’t get on the end of it. A few minutes later, Terry Griffiths played the ball into Matty Chew and he looped a ball into the box, but no Dynamos players were there. Roy Byron then made a challenge in the middle of the pitch, first one of the game and the referee gave him a yellow card…no idea why!! 23 minutes on the clock and Dan McAteer was called into action again as he stopped a shot on goal. Moments later Alfi Touceda collected the ball and moved forward well, but was taken out by a bad foul, the ball fell to Montel Brown and he hit a shot just wide of the target as the referee allowed play to continue. Half an hour gone and Matty Chew was fouled and looked in pain. He managed to continue, but was clearly in pain. Bateman changed things a little as he threw Jake Baldwin up front, moved Callum Shortt over to the left and Montel Brown on the right. 35 minutes and Roy Byron won a free kick 20 yards out from the Leighton goal. Alfi Touceda took it and forced the Leighton keeper into a save. The resulting corner was headed back across by Jon Munday and Paolo Bagatti headed on target, but keeper made an easy save. Leighton then went straight down the other end and Dan McAteer made a good save with his feet to thwart another attempt on goal. 3 minutes before the break, Matty Chew was unable to continue and was subbed off with Davide Pobbe coming on in the middle. As the clock ticked past 45 minutes played it was Davide Pobbe who set up Callum Shortt for Dynamos last chance of the half. Callum skipped past a challenge but his shot was deflected straight into the keepers arms. Within the first minute Dan McAteer was called upon to make another save, this time tipping the ball over from a decent effort. The resulting corner was headed clear by Jake Baldwin. Leighton Town then had a good 15 minute period of play as they rained in shots from all angles. First Roy Byron got a block in, then Jon Munday made a decent tackle. 51 minutes and another shot hit the post and rolled along the line and cleared by Paolo Bagatti before Leighton could get a shot away. 58 minutes and Leighton should have been out of sight, another chance went begging with Dan McAteer making another point blank save.

Last Time OUT 61 minutes and Steve Bateman made another sub. Montel Brown off and Dan Boateng coming on. Minutes later Jon Munday made an acrobatic clearance, but a Leighton player accidentally landed on his foot and Munday had to go off injured. He was replaced by Jack Hodgins after a lengthy treatment on pitch. 72 minutes and Dynamos were still in this game, Paolo Bagatti played a through ball to Jake Baldwin and his snap shot went wide of the mark. With about 10 minutes remaining Callum Shortt collected the ball and ran past two players and played in Jake Baldwin on the left side. Jake beat his marker and hit a superb shot over the keeper and rattled the crossbar. Almost the equaliser…even if against the run of play. That shot momentarily shut the Leighton crowd up…however, 5 minutes later they were in fine voice again as they broke through and finally got a deserved second goal. 2-0 Leighton. The final chance of the match fell to Dynamos in the 94th minute as a poor clearance from the Leighton keeper fell to Callum Shortt, but his shot beat the keeper but went over the bar. Final score: Leighton Town 2-0 AVDFC

Baldock Town HISTORY Baldock Town FC played its first competitive match in September 2003 in the North Herts League at The Shed on Clothall Road, Baldock (Now known as Buffs FC). The match was against Magnum with a Rob Foster hattrick sealing a 5-1 win.Since then, the Club have progressed from the North Herts League to the Herts Senior County League. The 1st Team won Division One of the HSCL in their debut season in 2007/2008. For three seasons from 2008/09, the team played its home matches on Saturday afternoons at The County Ground, Baldock Road in Letchworth, but they returned to Baldock for the 2011/12 season playing at Baldock Town FC's former home at Norton Road, which is now known as the North Herts Arena. After three near misses, the 1st Team finally won the Herts Senior County League Premier Division title in 2011/12. Unfortunately, due to ground grading issues, the team were unable to take their place in the Spartan South Midlands League. For the 2012/13 season, the team began a groundshare with Hitchin Town FC. Despite finishing runners-up in the HSCL Premier Division the following season, it would still prove enough to secure that elusive promotion. Scott Grant's side also won the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy for the first time and retained the Anagram Records Trophy. The next two seasons saw a period of consolidation for the 1st Team finishing 7th and 10th respectively in Spartan South Midlands League Division One (Step 6 on the Non-League Pyramid). After Grant decided to step down Luke Gregson took the reins for the 2015/16 season, assisted by Dean Gilbert. After an indifferent start, the team went on a superb run and ended up just missing out on promotion. The 3rd place finish was the club's highest in the Football Pyramid to date. At the end of the 2018-19 season Luke Gregson stood down and former Welwyn Garden City manager Adam Fisher took over. Fisher’s side started slowly and only began to pick up some form at the end of November shortly after Rob Bates came on board as Assistant Manager bringing some key signings with him – Baldock went on an impressive unbeaten run climbing the table before the pandemic brought the season to a premature end. In the summer of 2020 Adam Fisher resigned as manager and the club promoted Assistant Manager Rob Bates to the Manager’s position. Rob brought in his own management team and retained 90% of the previous season’s squad for the 2020-21 season which was curtailed after 12 games with Baldock in 10th position. Rob has retained 95% of the 2020-21 squad and continues to promote youth to the 1st team from our EJA sides; he has also added a few players in key positions ahead of the 2021-22 season. The team currently groundshare at Arlesey Town FC's ground; there are plans in place to build a new stadium in Baldock near Clothall Common.
