AVDFC v Cockfoster - 26th November 2022

Page 1

Good Afternoon

We look forward to facing and welcoming Cockfosters to Haywood Way this Saturday the 26th November. We predict this to be a very difficult game and believe Cockfosters are in a bit of a false league position and will be sure to move up the league in future weeks. Before Tuesday nights fixture Cockfosters were unbeaten in the previous 9 games, so we will not be underestimating the challenge ahead. Since joining the club, we have to praise the players, as there hasn’t been one performance out of 4 games so far that we were disappointed with and we have managed to pick up 7 points in the process, which we are happy with. The players have had to adapt to many changes, including the playing squad itself and have done so with great professionalism.

Coming off the back of a 2 1 away defeat to Leighton Town on Tuesday the players are disappointed, but at the same time confident, that they can now challenge any team within the division to a very competitive fixture We are pleased to welcome yet another new addition to our squad, in experience goalkeeper Charlie Jones. Charlie, started 43 times for us last season at Winslow United and picked up the ‘Supporters Player’ of the year award.

We believe this to be a fantastic signing for the club and Charlie will be a key player in helping us to climb the table. Charlie, joins up with the team and will make his league debut this week.

James Green & Jordan King.

Aylesbury Vale Dynamos is an amalgamation of Aylesbury FC and Bedgrove Dynamos, two local clubs with a rich history in local football. Aylesbury FC enjoyed a long history in senior and junior football dating back to the 1930’s under the previous names of Aylesbury Vale, Haywood United, Belgrave, Stocklake and Negretti and Zambra FC, which was founded in the 1930’s by workers at the Negretti and Zambra company then based in London’s King Cross district. The company moved to the Stocklake Industrial Estate, Aylesbury.

in 1949 and by the mid 50’s the premises had a bar, football, cricket and tennis facilities. The football club joined the Aylesbury District League in 1954. The social club changed its name to Stocklake when Negretti and Zambra sold the premises to the local council, who then leased the facilities; hence the different sections adopted the name Stocklake. Under the guidance of Chairman Mr Ernie Crotty, the club gained many honours including runners up in ADL’s top divisions, before gaining intermediate status in the Wycombe and District League first and senior divisions. Sadly Ernie was killed in a road accident just before the club moved premises to the present location at Haywood Way in 1987.

After gaining senior status and promotion to the Chiltern League in 1988, Stocklake enjoyed many further successes including Division One runners up in 1991, Premier Division and League Cup runners up the following season and Wycombe Senior Cup success in 1995. Cup success was also followed on in the following season, this time the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup being added to the trophy cabinet. Belgrave FC was formed in 1983 by Jim Sullivan who lived in nearby Belgrave Road. Jim had two sons who were passionate about football but were limited to where they could play, so formed a team himself with the help of neighbours Lynne and David Hatcher. By 1990, under the guidance of Danny Martone, Belgrave had grown to five youth teams providing football for over ninety boys from the Quarrendon and Haydon Hill areas of Aylesbury. 1996 saw the forming of two senior teams under the Belgrave FC name and by the turn of the millennium teams were represented at all levels from Under 8’s through to seniors,

At the start of the 2000/2001 season, the senior Belgrave FC team was renamed Haywood United following an amalgamation with Stocklake FC with Danny Martone voted in as chairman of the new club. Haywood United joined the Spartan South Midlands League and won promotion into Division One after two seasons. Notable achievements during the 2001/2002 season included league awards for the best kept and most improved ground; this included the erection of floodlights and perimeter fencing, which Danny and his hard working committee fought hard to establish. Season 2002/2003 saw a difficult start in Division One, but with the arrival of manager Jon Franklin and his assistant Keith Walker just after Christmas, the club eventually consolidated finishing in 9th place. Promotion was gained to the South Midlands Premier Division the following year after a campaign that saw 23 wins, 7 draws and only 4 losses. Haywood United proved themselves capable of staying in the Premier Division after finishing 3rd in the 2004/2005 season in a campaign that only include one loss in the twenty matches after Christmas. The club also entered the FA Cup and Vase for the first time and won the Buckingham Charity Cup in 2006.

Season 2006/2007 began with Haywood United becoming Aylesbury Vale FC and saw Keith Walker and Steve Gleinster take over as joint managers and steadily build a squad. This was recognised in the 2008/2009 season, under the management of Mark Eaton, with a good cup run in the FA Cup and FA Vase, winning three rounds in the FA Cup losing to Level 4 side Gosport after a replay, and losing out in the 4th round of the FA Vase to Leiston Town. . After Christmas the side suffered due to long term injuries and finished mid table. May 2009 saw a major new development in a new semi professional side vote for a name change. Aylesbury Football Club was formed under the leadership of Chairman Roger Dance and assisted by Vice Chairman Danny Martone

@ValeDynamos @AVDFCOfficial @avdfcsocial @AVDFCSocial @aylesburyvaledynamos.co.uk

Former Chairman Bill Harrison was made President of the club. Great success on the field of play was to follow, with the team having a fantastic run in the F.A. Cup. We were the last 'level five' team in the country to remain in the competition and were rewarded with a visit to Haywood Way for the F.A. Cup trophy, allowing the team, supporters and local people to get their hands on this famous trophy and make the most of this memorable occasion. We were finally knocked out of the competition by Wealdstone in a close game. A brave and superb display was witnessed by a bumper crowd of 800 plus.

Meanwhile, away from the midst of F.A. Cup drama, our success continued, becoming 'Double Winners' Winning both the Spartan South Midland League and League Cup capping an extraordinary season and gaining promotion to the Southern League Division 1 Central. Steve Bateman took over in 2013/14, steered the club to safety in his first 6 months in charge. Then in 2014/15 with Bateman at the helm FC has their most successful season to date most successful to date. Playing at the highest level in the club’s history, the team finished third in the League, having been pushing for promotion all season and narrowly lost out in the semi final to Bedworth United having already beaten them twice in the league. the 2015/16 finished with a flourish as the club finished just outside the play off positions, but had the consolation of our first major Cup Final, beating Chesham United in the Berks & Bucks Cup at Windsor. Steve Bateman and his management team resigned at the end of the season and Danny Gordon & Gareth Risbridger took the helm , supported by Paul Bonham , Ryan Wiffin & Aaron Norman. Davis Haule took over from Gordon & Risbridger in December 2016, appointed brother Brian as his assistant and recruited former coaches Fraser McLachlan, Aaron Wiffin and added Ryan Collings to his back room staff for the 2017/18 season. In 2018/19 Scott Reynolds was appointed manager and when he resigned midway through the season it was left to Paul Bonham to take control but because of ground grading issues the Southern League made the decision to relegate the club and so after ten seasons in the Southern League. Phil Granville and Ben Gill were appointed midway through last season and will kick off the 2020/21 season again in the Spartan Premier Division. Steve Bateman was re appointed as manager in September 2021 and replaced summer 2022 by Michael East & Liam Dwyer

Bedgrove Dynamos

Alf Buckland, a resident of Finmere Crescent, formed Bedgrove Dynamos in 1968. It was created to fill a void in activities for boys within the Bedgrove area on the south side of Aylesbury. In 1980, Dave Bayliss became involved when he brought his Cub side to the Bedgrove Park. The teams amalgamated and Dave went on to be the chairman for 21 years, stepping down in the year 2000. Within two years and barely a full strip between them, they managed not only to win the Under 12's Aylesbury & District League (ADL), but went on to win the 13's & 14's league in consecutive years and, by which time, they now had four teams at various age groups.

Over the years the club has grown and has won many tournaments and trophies, especially at county level. Many teams have toured abroad and the club has also entertained boys from Europe and America. We can boost that we are the only boys club to have a club pennant on display in Barcelona's trophy room.

At the start of the season 2001/02 the club was the largest junior club in the Aylesbury area, running teams from under 8's through to under 18's. At the end of the season 2001/02 the club managed to win the coveted Berks and Bucks Cup at under 14's, the Mayor's Cup at under 12's, represented in two other cup finals, won 3 league titles, gained 6 promotions in total and all teams finished in the top 6 to the fairplay awards for their respective leagues. In the last 20 seasons across the age groups the club has won 25 divisional titles, and runners up 20 times.

In 2019 two became one when the sides amalgamated with the intention of allowing the youth of the town to progress through junior football to youth and then adult football and play at the highest possible level.

Jordan King – Joint Manager

FA Qualified Coach Jordan started his managerial career at Aylesbury Park Rangers in 2012, achieving three promotions in consecutive seasons and also led the side to the Tom Sparkes League Cup.

Then at Aston Clinton between 2015 and 2018 the side achieved back to back promotion finishes and in 2017/18 Aston were runners up in Spartan South Midlands League Div Two and the Division Two Cup Runners up. In 2020 he joined Aylesbury Vale Dynamos as assistant manager and oversaw a rebuild alongside Phil Granville gaining 19 points from the first 10 games before Covid curtailed the season.

Jordan became joint manager with James Green at Winslow United and the pair gave the club their joint highest finish.

James Green – Joint Manager

James joined Winslow United at Youth Level, taking a side through all of the age groups from u7 u18. Honours included multiple League/Cup titles, winning the Be & Bucks Cup, top 5 finishes in the Junior Premier League & reaching the FA Youth Cup 1st Round Proper for two consecutive seasons at u18 facing Charlton Athletic & Ipswich Town.

In 2021 James became joint First Team Manager with Jordan King at Winslow United and the pair gave the club their joint highest ever finish. Finishing 3rd place, with 80 points from 38 games, scoring 104 goals along the way.

James’ reputation has been built over many years, helping to develop top youth talent regionally as they successfully transition into senior football across the Non League levels. Some of whom we’d hope to see at Haywood Way.

Successful playing career playing at Oxford City, Witney Town and Kidlington. Vastly experienced having various management positions at Hale Leys United, Aston Clinton FC, Winslow United FC, Aylesbury United U18’s and Penn & Tyler’s Green FC.

AVDFC 4 0 Hoddesdon Town

After the emphatic victory at London Colney, Dynamos faced another team towards the bottom end of the table in Hoddesdon. After going 2 0 up at their place and losing 4 3, Dynamos needed to avenge that disappointing defeat.

Lambeth was unavailable, so

went up

The first 10 minutes went past without much goalmouth action. Only a decent cross from Lamboh which was just too far for Deall worth noting.

Dynamos started to control the ball better and a ball out from Empson was collected by Deall and he hit a cross, finding Curtis Brown in space. He got his shot away which beat the keeper, but cleared off the line. A few minutes later and the pressure paid off. Williamson hit a defence splitting ball through to Curtis Brown who raced into the box and squared the ball to Baldwin. He tapped it into the empty net to put Dynamos 1-0 up. Great goal.

Two minutes later and it could have been 2 goals. The Hoddesdon keeper only managed to clear to Deall who headed back at goal where Baldwin was waiting. The keeper came out and Baldwin lobbed him but wide of the mark.

However, Dynamos didn’t need to wait too long as Hoddesdon decided to make their task even more difficult. Their defender, trying to play across the back line, managed to mis kick the ball straight past the keeper and into the goal. Most bizarre OG seen for a while. 2-0 Dynamos. Deall was again the provider as Dynamos looked to increase their lead further. A great through ball this time finding the speedy Curtis Brown, but his shot was inches wide of the target. Half an hour played and some excellent defending by Dyer saw him move forward down the left wing and cut inside to find Williamson. He jinxed his way past two defenders and pass to Baldwin’s feet…he turned and smashed the ball through the keepers legs and into the goal. 3 0 Dynamos. 35 minutes and the Hoddesdon keeper pulled off 3 saves in a row. Deall’s shot was saved, Baldwin and Dyer both had shots saved and the ball finally fell to Lamboh who hit his shot just over. Just before half time Dyer had time to float a pinpoint cross into Baldwin who slid in, but his shot went just wide as Dynamos finished the half strong.

As the whistle was about to go, Dynamos created another chance. Dyer and Deall worked the ball free on the left and Deall’s cross found Curtis Brown at the back stick. He fired his shot in and rattled the post, the ball going off for a goal kick.

Team: Archie Davis; Jack Empson, Jet Dyer, Charlie Attwell, Terry Griffiths; Antonio Ianelli, Jacob Williamson, Curtis Brown, Rio Deall, Evans Lamboh; Jake Baldwin Subs: Fabian Garcia, Max Rosner, Sadibo Camara, Kris Collier, Charlie Jackson Baldwin front. Empson coming into the starting line up with Rosner on the bench…also two U18’s stars also on the bench in Sadibo Camara and Kris Collier.

Half time: Dynamos 3-0 Hoddesdon (Could have been 6) Archie Davis, who had been a spectator for the first half was called into action after a few minutes of the second half as Hoddesdon looked to get involved in the match. It was 54 minutes before Hoddesdon had their first shot on target, which Davis saved well. 56 minutes and Fabian Garcia was introduced, replacing the impressive Evans Lamboh

Five minutes later and Hoddesdon were still pushing forward. Another shot came in which Davis pushed round the post. Attwell clearing the corner with a thumping header away. 66 minutes and Jack Empson was replaced by Max Rosner. The match then had a bizarre spell lasting a few minutes where 4 x Red cards were shown. Firstly the Hoddesdon No.6 pushed Rio Deall over with some force…Yellow…! The Hoddesdon No.2 decided to throw a few punches at various Dynamos players – Red Card. The Hoddesdon Manager and Will Dodds came onto the pitch to break it up and move players away…referee deciding 2 x Red cards were needed for them. Finally Jack Empson, who had been subbed off, ran onto the pitch and got himself a red card as well…for violent conduct…will need Veo on that one…! Anyway, after that settled down, Dynamos were in control. Curtis Brown won a corner and Williamson hit another decent dead ball onto the head of Baldwin…was this his hat trick…the ball was heading into the back of the net, Baldwin was celebrating…Captain Terry Griffiths thought better and steamed in to smash it home a foot from the line…!! GOAL…Griffiths getting his 6th of the season !! 4-0 Dynamos.

Jordan King put on Sadibo Camara and Kris Collier for the final 10 minutes, replacing Curtis Brown and Rio Deall. In the 86th minute it was almost 5…! Max Rosner intercepted a ball across field and raced into the middle, releasing Sadibo on the right wing, his cross was inches away from Baldwin.

Final Score: Dynamos 4-0 Hoddesdon Town

S.Humphrey. Missing Max Mayer and Loui Bowman, on the usual

surface we managed to put on our worst display against a well

enthusiastic home team. For the 20 mins despite instructions to the contrary we were taking too many touches, not display enough quality in the passing and a failure to protect the back 4 resulted in a couple of chances repelled by keeping by Peter Letts and a couple of last-ditch tackles by Prince Will and Callum Bailey. We also missed a couple of good opportunities before a strike from the edge of the area on 27 mins by Tafara Dube gave us the lead. We looked a bit more comfortable till in the 44 th minute a defender fell asleep at a free kick which resulted in a not undeserved equaliser.

The second period was far better without really being too convincing but after some tidy play reassured in a neat finish from Kris Collier on 69 mins regained the lead and for the remains time we created a couple of decent chances and restricted Dunstable. The general impression was of a lacklustre team performance but importantly the result went our way.

The EARLY YEARS: The Club was originally formed as Cockfosters Athletic in 1921 by local residents and the ground allocated to the Club by Lady Bevan, from her family estate. Season 1938/39 saw first of two “trebles” in the Club’s history, winning the Wood Green League’s Premier Division, League Cup and the Barnet Cup. After the war the 1st Team moved to the strong local league of that time the Northern Suburban Intermediate, whilst the Reserves played in the Wood Green, Southgate & District League. The 1960s saw a re awakening of the Club. 1960/61: 1st Team win Northern Suburban League’s 1st Division and the next campaign win Premier Division. Barnet Cup and the Barnet Charity Cup finals were reached regularly with both trophies being won on a couple of occasions.

The 1970s: This decade was one of the most successful in the Club’s history. 1970/71: 1st Team win London FA Intermediate Cup and finalists in Herts County League’s Aubrey 1978/79: 1st Team win ‘treble’ of HC League Premier Division, Aubrey Cup and Herts FA Intermediate Cup; ‘A’ Team win the NSI Lge. The 1980s: 1980/81: Former Barnet FC player Jeff Voyce appointed 1st Team Manager and the side claim their second Premier Division title. 1983/84: Colin Bell takes over as Manager and 1st Team win HSCL Premier Division for a third time. Colin decides to resign at the end of the campaign 1984/85: Former Arsenal player Glyn MacDonald appointed as 1st Team Manager. Team win the HSCL’s Aubrey Cup and are Premier Division Runners up. 1989/90: 1st Team win London FA Intermediate Cup. The 1990s: 1990/91 sees the Club gain “Senior Status” the 1st Team leave for the London Spartan League Premier Division, bringing an end of 25 seasons of membership in the Herts Senior County League all, but the first having been in the top flight a period that saw the 1st Team as Premier Division Champions 3 times, London FA Intermediate Cup winners twice, the Herts FA Intermediate Cup winners once and finalists on 3 other occasions, HSCL Aubrey Cup winners twice and finalists twice.

2000 to Present Day: Youth football was re introduced to the Club starting with an Under 18 side and later teams at Under 13 and Under 15 age groups.

2002/03: The Club introduce an Under 18 Youth side managed by Paul Boxer and competing in the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League. 2007/08: With the elevation into the Spartan South Midlands League’s Premier Division the Club accepted into the FA Challenge Cup for the first time in their history.

2013/14: The season proved to be another successful one, with a very creditable 8th place & both the SSML's Challenge Trophy and the South Midlands Floodlight (Senior) Cup won. The Under 18s, managed by Paul Boxer and assisted by Steve Foot, won the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League's Nemean Division and were runners up in the League's Divisional Winners Play Off Final. 2013, the season saw our Youth Section enhanced with a get together with Whetstone Wanderers. The Wanderers' Under 15 & Under 16 teams were to play under the Cockfosters FC’s name in the Eastern Junior Alliance League. This new 'affiliation” expected to be a great benefit to both clubs and would provide a continuity of players moving up into our Under 18's, Reserves and hopefully our 1st Team.

2014/15: The season’s one bright spot being the displays of our Youth Section. The U18s were Southern Counties Floodlit Youth Lge. Olympian Division winners, beating Luton Town in the SCFYL’s Divisional Winners Play off Final. 2015/16: The U14’s made a clean sweep of everything, winning the EJA’s Herts (Brown) Division, the EJA U14 Divisional Play Off Final, the EJA U14 Challenge Cup and the Middlesex FA County FA’s U14 Cup. 2016/17 : After a very successful campaign, which saw the 1st Team finish 3 rd (its’ highest ever position) in the SSML Premier Div. and the Reserves as R/up in the U25 Development Div 2017/18:The U18s were Runners up in the SCFYL’s Delphian Division. The U13s won the EJA Herts (Green) Div. and also won the AFA County Youth Cup and were runners up in the London FA Sunday Youth Cup. 2018/19: Ryan Wade appointed as 1st Team manager with Nick Mountford assistant / coach, both having played at a higher level of football. The campaign was disappointing, but the last 15 minutes of the season’s final league game saw us score 3 times to win 3 2 & avoid the drop. The youth sides continued to do well Vas Chiotis’ U14s, winning the EJA division & reaching 2 County Youth Cup finals & Brett Cahill’s U17s also reached a County Youth Cup final. 2019/20 The FA moved us laterally from the Spartan South Midlands Lge’s top division to that of the Essex Senior League,

With the 2019 20 and 2020 21 seasons both curtailed by Covid19 season 2021 2022 has been a season of change. At the end of January Ryan Wade stepped down as Manager and the highly experienced Gavin Kelsey was appointed bringing in Glenn Draper as his assistant. The Under 18s have continued to play in the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League & Eastern Junior Alliance League giving youngsters a chance to showcase their skills before stepping up to the reserves and 1 st Team. This progression was highlighted recently when young goalkeeper Neo Donoghue made his 1 st team debut at Woodford Town following in the footsteps of George Constanti who has netted over 30 times for the Under 18s this season and also Andy Polycarpou who debited for the 1 st team earlier in the season. The Club has teams in the EJA League at Under 14, Under 15, Under 16 & Under 18 level. This has seen more success with the Under 18s clinching the Black Division and the Under 15s winning the London County Cup.

Season 2022 2023 see Gavin Kelsey in charge with Glen Draper as his assistant and the team moved back to the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division. The Reserve teams continues in the Herts Senior County League with the Under 18s remaining in the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League & Eastern Junior Alliance League giving youngsters a chance to showcase their skills before stepping up to the reserves and 1 st Team.
