Good afternoon everyone, a belated Happy New Year and welcome to Haywood Way for this afternoons South Midlands Premier League match against our visitors, Dunstable Town FC. A warm welcome to Joe Deeney and his staff and players. Both sides come into this game in good form albeit we haven’t kicked a ball in anger since 14th December but we have been able to step up our disrupted training regime during the past 2 weeks and hopefully we can take that into the game today and continue to build upon the 5 league wins on the bounce. Joe has turned things around at Dunstable, which is no surprise to me as I’m more than aware of his excellent coaching credentials and we fully expect a tough examination this afternoon. The enforced break has allowed us to get virtually everybody fit and available for selection and there will be a couple disappointed today not to make the match day squad but when I came here I asked the players to trust me with the amount of football they get and of course that’s based on being fit, available and in form and I can look all the squad in the eye right now and say they have all had ample opportunities to keep hold of a starting shirt. The challenge for the group for the 2nd half of the season is to keep our good run going and see if we can be a thorn in the side of those sides currently above us chasing promotion and making sure we take points off them when we play them next. As always, your support if fully appreciated and together lets keep working to move our club forwards.

Dynamos HISTORY Aylesbury Vale Dynamos is an amalgamation of Aylesbury FC and Bedgrove Dynamos, two local clubs with a rich history in local football. Aylesbury FC enjoyed a long history in senior and junior football dating back to the 1930’s under the previous names of Aylesbury Vale, Haywood United, Belgrave, Stocklake and Negretti and Zambra FC, which was founded in the 1930’s by workers at the Negretti and Zambra company then based in London’s King Cross district. The company moved to the Stocklake Industrial Estate, Aylesbury. in 1949 and by the mid 50’s the premises had a bar, football, cricket and tennis facilities. The football club joined the Aylesbury District League in 1954. The social club changed its name to Stocklake when Negretti and Zambra sold the premises to the local council, who then leased the facilities; hence the different sections adopted the name Stocklake. Under the guidance of Chairman Mr Ernie Crotty, the club gained many honours including runners up in ADL’s top divisions, before gaining intermediate status in the Wycombe and District League first and senior divisions. Sadly Ernie was killed in a road accident just before the club moved premises to the present location at Haywood Way in 1987. After gaining senior status and promotion to the Chiltern League in 1988, Stocklake enjoyed many further successes including Division One runners up in 1991, Premier Division and League Cup runners up the following season and Wycombe Senior Cup success in 1995. Cup success was also followed on in the following season, this time the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup being added to the trophy cabinet. Belgrave FC was formed in 1983 by Jim Sullivan who lived in nearby Belgrave Road. Jim had two sons who were passionate about football but were limited to where they could play, so formed a team himself with the help of neighbours Lynne and David Hatcher. By 1990, under the guidance of Danny Martone, Belgrave had grown to five youth teams providing football for over ninety boys from the Quarrendon and Haydon Hill areas of Aylesbury. 1996 saw the forming of two senior teams under the Belgrave FC name and by the turn of the millennium teams were represented at all levels from Under 8’s through to seniors, At the start of the 2000/2001 season, the senior Belgrave FC team was renamed Haywood United following an amalgamation with Stocklake FC with Danny Martone voted in as chairman of the new club. Haywood United joined the Spartan South Midlands League and won promotion into Division One after two seasons. Notable achievements during the 2001/2002 season included league awards for the best kept and most improved ground; this included the erection of floodlights and perimeter fencing, which Danny and his hard working committee fought hard to establish. Season 2002/2003 saw a difficult start in Division One, but with the arrival of manager Jon Franklin and his assistant Keith Walker just after Christmas, the club eventually consolidated finishing in 9th place. Promotion was gained to the South Midlands Premier Division the following year after a campaign that saw 23 wins, 7 draws and only 4 losses. Haywood United proved themselves capable of staying in the Premier Division after finishing 3rd in the 2004/2005 season in a campaign that only include one loss in the twenty matches after Christmas. The club also entered the FA Cup and Vase for the first time and won the Buckingham Charity Cup in 2006. Season 2006/2007 began with Haywood United becoming Aylesbury Vale FC and saw Keith Walker and Steve Gleinster take over as joint managers and steadily build a squad. This was recognised in the 2008/2009 season, under the management of Mark Eaton, with a good cup run in the FA Cup and FA Vase, winning three rounds in the FA Cup losing to Level 4 side Gosport after a replay, and losing out in the 4th round of the FA Vase to Leiston Town. . After Christmas the side suffered due to long term injuries and finished mid table. May 2009 saw a major new development in a new semi professional side vote for a name change. Aylesbury Football Club was formed under the leadership of Chairman Roger Dance and assisted by Vice Chairman Danny Martone

Dynamos HISTORY Former Chairman Bill Harrison was made President of the club. Great success on the field of play was to follow, with the team having a fantastic run in the F.A. Cup. We were the last 'level five' team in the country to remain in the competition and were rewarded with a visit to Haywood Way for the F.A. Cup trophy, allowing the team, supporters and local people to get their hands on this famous trophy and make the most of this memorable occasion. We were finally knocked out of the competition by Wealdstone in a close game. A brave and superb display was witnessed by a bumper crowd of 800 plus. Meanwhile, away from the midst of F.A. Cup drama, our success continued, becoming 'Double Winners' Winning both the Spartan South Midland League and League Cup capping an extraordinary season and gaining promotion to the Southern League Division 1 Central. Steve Bateman took over in 2013/14, steered the club to safety in his first 6 months in charge. Then in 2014/15 with Bateman at the helm FC has their most successful season to date most successful to date. Playing at the highest level in the club’s history, the team finished third in the League, having been pushing for promotion all season and narrowly lost out in the semi final to Bedworth United having already beaten them twice in the league. the 2015/16 finished with a flourish as the club finished just outside the play off positions, but had the consolation of our first major Cup Final, beating Chesham United in the Berks & Bucks Cup at Windsor. Steve Bateman and his management team resigned at the end of the season and Danny Gordon & Gareth Risbridger took the helm , supported by Paul Bonham , Ryan Wiffin & Aaron Norman. Davis Haule took over from Gordon & Risbridger in December 2016, appointed brother Brian as his assistant and recruited former coaches Fraser McLachlan, Aaron Wiffin and added Ryan Collings to his back room staff for the 2017/18 season. In 2018/19 Scott Reynolds was appointed manager and when he resigned midway through the season it was left to Paul Bonham to take control but because of ground grading issues the Southern League made the decision to relegate the club and so after ten seasons in the Southern League. Phil Granville and Ben Gill were appointed midway through last season and will kick off the 2020/21 season again in the Spartan Premier Division. Steve Bateman was re appointed as manager in September 2021 Bedgrove Dynamos Alf Buckland, a resident of Finmere Crescent, formed Bedgrove Dynamos in 1968. It was created to fill a void in activities for boys within the Bedgrove area on the south side of Aylesbury. In 1980, Dave Bayliss became involved when he brought his Cub side to the Bedgrove Park. The teams amalgamated and Dave went on to be the chairman for 21 years, stepping down in the year 2000. Within two years and barely a full strip between them, they managed not only to win the Under 12's Aylesbury & District League (ADL), but went on to win the 13's & 14's league in consecutive years and, by which time, they now had four teams at various age groups. Over the years the club has grown and has won many tournaments and trophies, especially at county level. Many teams have toured abroad and the club has also entertained boys from Europe and America. We can boost that we are the only boys club to have a club pennant on display in Barcelona's trophy room. At the start of the season 2001/02 the club was the largest junior club in the Aylesbury area, running teams from under 8's through to under 18's. At the end of the season 2001/02 the club managed to win the coveted Berks and Bucks Cup at under 14's, the Mayor's Cup at under 12's, represented in two other cup finals, won 3 league titles, gained 6 promotions in total and all teams finished in the top 6 to the fairplay awards for their respective leagues. In the last 20 seasons across the age groups the club has won 25 divisional titles, and runners up 20 times. In 2019 two became one when the sides amalgamated with the intention of allowing the youth of the town to progress through junior football to youth and then adult football and play at the highest possible level.

Meet The MANAGEMENT Steve BATEMAN – Manager Bateman has enjoyed an illustrious non-league career, starting his playing days with Hemel Hempstead before joining Everton, where he went on to win the FA Youth Cup before later playing more than 300 games for both Chesham United and Slough Town. His managerial career started at Chesham but he also managed Berkhamsted Town, guiding them to a memorable FA Vase final at Villa Park, and local rivals Hemel Hempstead who he led to promotion to the Southern Premier League. Bateman was appointed Aylesbury boss in 2013, replacing Craig Faulconbridge, and spearhead a strong promotion push in 2014/15 finishing third to Royston and Kettering, Aylesbury's highest ever league position, before losing out in the play-offs to Bedworth. Bates then bought the biggest trophy back to Haywood Way when in 2016 Aylesbury defeated Chesham United 1-0 in the Berks and Bucks Cup Final at Windsor FC before departing the club at the end of that season. He then returned to Berkhamsted, this time gaining promotion from the Spartan South Midlands League in April 2018 before two succesful seasons in the the Southern League, helping them to a 6th place finish in his first season before ending season 19/20 in top place prior to the null and void decision due to Covid. Steve's then teamed up with Lee Bircham and Hemel Hempstead Town in the National League South before ending their tenure earlier this month.

Davis HAULE – Assistant Manager Davis is a Haywood Way legend and returns to Steve Bateman's management team as Assistant Manager. He will also be an important player in the middle of the park. Davis made nearly 200 appearances for Aylesbury between 2012 and 2019 and managed the side for a season and a half between 2016 and 2018. He brings with him an immense amount of knowledge of the non league game and will be an invaluable source of experience to the young players but also to the management team.

Last Time OUT Tue 14th December 2021 Leverstock Green 1 AVDFC 1 (5-3 penalties) Team: James Weatherill; Luke Nugent, Alex Mitchell, Gabby Adelowo, Terry Griffiths; Roy Byron, Alfi Touceda, Joe Chott, Jake Baldwin; Brian Haule, Montel Brown Subs: Andrew Ofosu, Aaron Berry, Dave Brown, Paolo Bagatti, Callum Shortt The League Cup was a welcome break from the run of League matches and a chance for Steve Bateman to start a few players and run his eye over them. Gabby Adelowo and Joe Chott both making their first appearance in the starting line up. Roy Byon, Montel Brown and Alex Mitchell were all in from the start as well. The first few minutes saw both teams start tentatively but the first meaningful attack ended up with Dynamos taking an early lead. Montel Brown won a corner and Jake Baldwin swung the ball into the mix where Brian Haule rose the highest and planted his header in the back of the net. 0-1 Dynamos. On 14 minutes, Leverstock were looking threatening but their right winger was not getting much joy from Alex Mitchell who was tackling well, supported by Gabby Adewolo next to him. A few minutes later and Roy Byron picked up a loose pass and played in Alfi Touceda, his shot was just deflected wide for a corner. Jake Baldwin again swung the corner in but this time Leverstock managed to clear their lines before Gabby Adewolo could head in. Leverstock had also made a few changes and their left winger almost levelled the score as he raced down the line, cut in and hit a decent shot which James Weatherill saved low to his left. Just over half an hour and the goalmouth action was few and far between, but Leverstock had another half chance which was hit over the bar. With 10 minutes remaining James Weatherill surprised the opposition with a long ball over the top to Brian Haule, he controlled brilliantly and hit a first time shot just wide of the mark. The Dynamos thought they had 2 goals with a couple of minutes of the half left. Joe Chott controlled Alfi Toucedas decent pass and raced clear of his marker. He hit a low cross to Montel Brown and he sidestepped his opponent and curled his effort past the keeper and rattled the post. So unlucky! Within 5 minutes of the second half, Montel Brown was sent through by Alfi Touceda but this time he failed to connect. At the other end it was Leverstock who nearly scored. A good move saw them cut inside and their strikers shot clipped the post and went wide. Lucky escape for Dynamos. A couple of late challenges from Jake Baldwin and Alfi Touceda, saw both players receive a yellow card within a minute of each other as Leverstock pushed forward. 65 minutes and another Leverstock attack saw Brian Haule race back and win a crunching tackle, but the ball bobbled to their player who hit a decent effort inches wide of the Dynamos post. Moments later Joe Chott, again beat his marker and this time his cross was controlled by Roy Byron on the edge of the area and his shot was well blocked for a corner. The corner was met by Terry Griffiths but went harmlessly wide. First sub for Dynamos saw Jake Baldwin replaced by debutant, Andrew Ofosu. Within a few seconds of the substitution, Leverstock were back level from a corner which was headed in from close range.1-1. 15 minutes until a potential penalty shootout, both teams threw caution to the wind and went for the winner. Gabby Adewolo went on a run out of defence and hit a lovely pass to Brian Haule who flicked it to Montel Brown, his first time effort was well saved by Leverstock keeper. 82 minutes and a ball out from Luke Nugent found Roy Byron free and his deft header was straight into the path of Joe Chott who had his shot well saved. Alfi Touceda then also had a chance as he collected a ball inside from the lively Joe Chott but his effort was curled over the keeper but over the bar as well. A minute later and Montel Brown found space on the right and played a superb ball through to Andrew Ofosu who steadied himself and hit

Last Time OUT 82 minutes and a ball out from Luke Nugent found Roy Byron free and his deft header was straight into the path of Joe Chott who had his shot well saved. Alfi Touceda then also had a chance as he collected a ball inside from the lively Joe Chott but his effort was curled over the keeper but over the bar as well. A minute later and Montel Brown found space on the right and played a superb ball through to Andrew Ofosu who steadied himself and hit a rocket which went just over the bar. Aaron Berry and Dave Brown were introduced in the final few minutes, replacing Montel Brown and Alfi Touceda as the match looked like penalties. In the second minute of injury time Leverstock had the opportunity to seal the victory as their nippy winger ran clean through into the box but James Weatherill made a fantastic point blank save to force a corner. The corner was headed on target but James Weatherill managed to grab hold at the second attempt…great save again….a penalty shoot out would decide this cup tie. Dave Brown and Terry Griffiths both stepped up and equalised two penalties from Leverstock, making it 2-2. Andrew Ofosu then had his spot kick saved after Leverstock scored their 3rd. 3-2. Leverstock then scored their 4th. 4-2. Brian Haule stepped up to keep Dynamos in it with a calm penalty into the bottom corner however Leverstock scored their 5th and won 5-3 on penalties

Development Side Update Sat 27th November 2021 AVDFC Dev 4 Westfield Reserves 1 Dynamos came into a top of the table clash with Westfield on a run of incredible form, having won 6 of their last 7 games, with a hugely unfancied draw with Slough Under 23s in between. With their style and formation proving fruitful, tactically there would be little change but the big difference would be the absence from the dugout of Michael East, a guy whose reputation is growing by the day. However, this gave another opportunity for Assistant Manager Damian Eatwell to step in to the hot seat and Dave Percival to assume the number 2 role. Under 18s guru, Colin Young, joined the bench to add his wise, but not so old head to the pot. With only a few minor changes to the line-up, Roshan Patel got a much-deserved call up to the centre of midfield and the impish style of Princito Nimoh returned to the wing. Dan McAteer replaced our Skipper and clown prince of goalkeepers, George Zammit. Dynamos started brightly and within three minutes, they’d created their first chance. Midfield maestro Tom Shaw got wide and fizzed a ball across the six yard box which just eluded the outstretched leg of Prince Nimoh. Moments later, the ever-dependable Harvey Matthews found Marcus Rivers who played a perfectly weighted ball to Nimoh. He got his shot away but straight at the keepers leg. It wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken. Five minutes in and Dynamos hit a hopeful ball forward. The Westfield Centre half’s first touch wasn’t great, nor was his second. He failed to get the ball under control with his third touch, or his fourth, fifth and sixth. Way too long when Princito is on the hunt. He duly nipped in and dispatched it past the keeper. 1-0 and exactly what Dynamos needed to settle the nerves. The goal seemed to spark Westfield into life. Their position in the league is no fluke and we knew they were capable of playing, and despite the pitch beginning to cut up, that’s what they did. However, with the impressive duo of Gabby Adewolo and stand in captain Jack Aldridge being well screened by the energetic Matt Chew and Rosh Patel. Chances were few and far between. Twenty seven minutes in and Dynamos had the ball in the net again. Prince cut the ball back to Dynamos hot shot Marcus Rivers who slotted into an empty net, only to see the offside flag up. By this time, the Westfield bench were becoming agitated, both booked in the away fixture earlier in the season, their frustration at Macca’s ‘game management’ caused a heated exchange with Dave ‘Percy’ Percival, whose winner’s mentality was never going to allow him to remain tight lipped. Half time loomed and Tom Shaw found Prince with an outrageously disguised pass. Prince’s first touch was good and he unleashed his shot to the top right. A quite superb save from the keeper managed to tip it on to the bar. However, right on the stroke of half time, Dynamos found their second. The continuous supply to the irrepressible Joe Chott opened the Westfield defence again. His cross to the back post found Nimoh who squared to Tom Shaw. Shaw made no mistake. 2-0 Dynamos and in the words of stand in manager, Damian Eatwell, a goal of pure footballing porn. The half time team talk had just become a little easier, but Dynamos were never going to let their standards slip, tighter marking and engagement higher up the field required. Easier said than done on a pitch that was tearing up, wind getting stronger and conditions more akin to the arctic than the sleepy market town of Aylesbury. A rapid start to the second half and another pinpoint pass from Tom Shaw found Prince again. Prince smashed it home to give Dynamos a three goal lead.

Development Side Update On 51 minutes, came the games only controversial moment. After a bit of pressure from the much improved Westfield forward line, the ball appeared to have been cleared. However, a long blast on the referee’s whistle and he was pointing in the general direction of the goal. What was it? A free kick? offside? None of those, it was a penalty to Westfield. Quite what he’d seen bemused most of spectators and those in the technical area. Anyway, up steps the Westfield 9, who had been sent down from the first team. His tame penalty was never going to be good enough to beat a keeper of Macca’s quality, who plunged to his right and grabbed the ball at the second attempt. Nearly an hour in and Matt Chew’s race is run. He pulls up lame with what appears to be a nasty hamstring injury. On came the combative figure of Gael Muyonge. By now, Westfield were beginning to look threatening in wide areas. Despite Alex Mitchell turning up to the game under the weather, another solid display from him limited any real clear-cut chances. Watch out for this lad, he has the potential to go far. That said, Harvey Matthews was doing an equally effective job on the other side. Sixty five minutes in and Macca is called in to action again. This time thwarting the Westfield front line with a fine one v one save. Time to freshen it up. Off came Marcus Rivers and Roshan Patel and on came Connor Wagner and Matt Tagliarini (Waggy & Taggy) A momentary lapse in concentration from the Dynamos saw Westfield cut the deficit. A strong but questionable tackle in the midfield and Westfield went through. The Westfield 9 eventually smashing in from 2 yards out. The pitch was really suffering now which made things hard for the players, who were starting to tire. But game over in the 84th minute as Connor Wagner, who was unlucky to not be in the starting XI, found Joe Chott. His shot was hit sweetly and dipped past the Westfield keeper. Another player to watch, tough to contain and making a habit of scoring. Opposition keepers need to watch out for the ‘Chott Shot’ its trickier than you think! Time to shut up shop. Jack Elsey (He’s one of our own) was introduced at the expense of Prince Nimoh as Dynamos went to a back 5. Relief for the Dynamos and now Westfield had resigned themselves to defeat. The game petered out and all three points in the bag, which leaves AVDD top of the league by two points, with a game in hand. A fantastic workmanlike performance in really tricky conditions. Already this team has surpassed all expectations and is it too early to think about winning the league? On this showing it’s becoming a distinct possibility.

Dunstable Town HISTORY Dunstable Town FC are now in their 138th year. A former home to George Best, Jeff Astle, Kerry Dixon, and more recently, Peter Kioso, the Club can boast a rich heritage, a proud past and nowadays the honour of being only the 46th club in the UK to be a completely fan owned club run by its fans as a Community Benefit Society (CBS) The Club is a legal entity & is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and supported as a CBS by the Football Supporters’ Association. The Club now operates as a social enterprise. Between Monday and Friday we run three different groups for people in our local community who want to improve their levels of fitness, increase their social support networks and enjoy a safe space while in recovery from mental ill-health. The Club is now in its fourth year of supporting the work of Mind BLMK (Beds, Luton & Milton Keynes) as well as now promoting CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) and a local peer support group, Minds2gether. The Club has a specialist Mental Health Advocate who works with local mental health services and charities. The move to become a CBS was necessary to ensure the Club survived. The financial effects of Covid saw the Club’s income halved and the difficult decision taken to fold the U23’s Development Team at the end of the 2019 – 20 season. With no matchday income from the bar or food sales and no clubhouse to hire out, the Club relies almost totally on gate receipts, sponsorship, fundraising and prize money for its income. The running of the Club was passed to the fans in 2017 after the wholesale departure of the Board, coaching staff and all but two of the players. A consortium of three local businessmen offered to save the Club, but on condition they would seek voluntary relegation from the Premier Division of the Southern League. A group of 15 fans took over the running of the Club in order to keep it in the Premier Division of the Southern League and despite successive relegations the model of being a members’ run Club proved sufficiently popular for the decision to become a CBS to be backed unanimously by the fans. Fans now have the opportunity to become owners of the Club & buy a single share in the Club and receive exclusive discounts with local traders under the Blue Card scheme. This model of Fan Ownership ensures that the Club will always stay in the hands of its supporters and cannot be taken over by one single investor determined to ride the non-league financial rollercoaster. The Club appointed Joe Deeney as Head Coach in early October. Joe had managed at Step 2 with Hemel Hempstead Town FC and brought with him an experienced back room team made up of Kyle Durcan as his number 2. The Club established a partnership with Pro:Direct Academy Luton to enter an U18’s side in the SCFYL and an U19’s in the Tactic League. The aim is to bring the good times back to Creasey Park. Despite disappointing results average attendances have hovered around 120 for the past couple of seasons. The Club is ambitious and wants to play at the highest level of football it is prudent and sustainable to do so.
