I would like to welcome our visitors and everyone attached to their club and wish them a safe journey to and from Aylesbury, we wish you all a pleasant stay and look forward to meeting you.

All football at the club begins this weekend with 35 teams in the club, and most Youth teams will be kicking off their seasons around the County and beyond. I would like to wish them all the success for the season and look forward to the many reports of exciting matches and great goals.

Head of Youth Football: Kevin Woodstock Head of Women’s Football: Toby O’Callaghan

COME ON DYNAMOS !

For the first time in recent AVDFC history, we will also have 6 Girls teams starting their first ever league campaigns. The Senior Management team of Toby, Jason, Damian and Paul have built this section of the club from scratch and now we have over 70 girls registered with the club.

Last time out we were so unlucky not to grab a draw against our Step 3 opponents in the FA Cup, narrowly losing out 4 3 away at Yate Town. The FA Cup ends, but we go again in the FA Vase next week at home against MK Irish.

After gaining senior status and promotion to the Chiltern League in 1988, Stocklake enjoyed many further successes including Division One runners up in 1991, Premier Division and League Cup runners up the following season and Wycombe Senior Cup success in 1995. Cup success was also followed on in the following season, this time the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup being added to the trophy cabinet. Belgrave FC was formed in 1983 by Jim Sullivan who lived in nearby Belgrave Road. Jim had two sons who were passionate about football but were limited to where they could play, so formed a team himself with the help of neighbours Lynne and David Hatcher. By 1990, under the guidance of Danny Martone, Belgrave had grown to five youth teams providing football for over ninety boys from the Quarrendon and Haydon Hill areas of Aylesbury. 1996 saw the forming of two senior teams under the Belgrave FC name and by the turn of the millennium teams were represented at all levels from Under 8’s through to seniors,

in 1949 and by the mid 50’s the premises had a bar, football, cricket and tennis facilities. The football club joined the Aylesbury District League in 1954. The social club changed its name to Stocklake when Negretti and Zambra sold the premises to the local council, who then leased the facilities; hence the different sections adopted the name Stocklake. Under the guidance of Chairman Mr Ernie Crotty, the club gained many honours including runners up in ADL’s top divisions, before gaining intermediate status in the Wycombe and District League first and senior divisions. Sadly Ernie was killed in a road accident just before the club moved premises to the present location at Haywood Way in 1987.

Season 2006/2007 began with Haywood United becoming Aylesbury Vale FC and saw Keith Walker and Steve Gleinster take over as joint managers and steadily build a squad. This was recognised in the 2008/2009 season, under the management of Mark Eaton, with a good cup run in the FA Cup and FA Vase, winning three rounds in the FA Cup losing to Level 4 side Gosport after a replay, and losing out in the 4th round of the FA Vase to Leiston Town. . After Christmas the side suffered due to long term injuries and finished mid table. May 2009 saw a major new development in a new semi professional side vote for a name change. Aylesbury Football Club was formed under the leadership of Chairman Roger Dance and assisted by Vice Chairman Danny Martone

At the start of the 2000/2001 season, the senior Belgrave FC team was renamed Haywood United following an amalgamation with Stocklake FC with Danny Martone voted in as chairman of the new club. Haywood United joined the Spartan South Midlands League and won promotion into Division One after two seasons. Notable achievements during the 2001/2002 season included league awards for the best kept and most improved ground; this included the erection of floodlights and perimeter fencing, which Danny and his hard working committee fought hard to establish. Season 2002/2003 saw a difficult start in Division One, but with the arrival of manager Jon Franklin and his assistant Keith Walker just after Christmas, the club eventually consolidated finishing in 9th place. Promotion was gained to the South Midlands Premier Division the following year after a campaign that saw 23 wins, 7 draws and only 4 losses. Haywood United proved themselves capable of staying in the Premier Division after finishing 3rd in the 2004/2005 season in a campaign that only include one loss in the twenty matches after Christmas. The club also entered the FA Cup and Vase for the first time and won the Buckingham Charity Cup in 2006.

Aylesbury Vale Dynamos is an amalgamation of Aylesbury FC and Bedgrove Dynamos, two local clubs with a rich history in local football. Aylesbury FC enjoyed a long history in senior and junior football dating back to the 1930’s under the previous names of Aylesbury Vale, Haywood United, Belgrave, Stocklake and Negretti and Zambra FC, which was founded in the 1930’s by workers at the Negretti and Zambra company then based in London’s King Cross district. The company moved to the Stocklake Industrial Estate, Aylesbury.

Alf Buckland, a resident of Finmere Crescent, formed Bedgrove Dynamos in 1968. It was created to fill a void in activities for boys within the Bedgrove area on the south side of Aylesbury. In 1980, Dave Bayliss became involved when he brought his Cub side to the Bedgrove Park. The teams amalgamated and Dave went on to be the chairman for 21 years, stepping down in the year 2000. Within two years and barely a full strip between them, they managed not only to win the Under 12's Aylesbury & District League (ADL), but went on to win the 13's & 14's league in consecutive years and, by which time, they now had four teams at various age groups.

Meanwhile, away from the midst of F.A. Cup drama, our success continued, becoming 'Double Winners' Winning both the Spartan South Midland League and League Cup capping an extraordinary season and gaining promotion to the Southern League Division 1 Central. Steve Bateman took over in 2013/14, steered the club to safety in his first 6 months in charge. Then in 2014/15 with Bateman at the helm FC has their most successful season to date most successful to date. Playing at the highest level in the club’s history, the team finished third in the League, having been pushing for promotion all season and narrowly lost out in the semi final to Bedworth United having already beaten them twice in the league. the 2015/16 finished with a flourish as the club finished just outside the play off positions, but had the consolation of our first major Cup Final, beating Chesham United in the Berks & Bucks Cup at Windsor. Steve Bateman and his management team resigned at the end of the season and Danny Gordon & Gareth Risbridger took the helm , supported by Paul Bonham , Ryan Wiffin & Aaron Norman. Davis Haule took over from Gordon & Risbridger in December 2016, appointed brother Brian as his assistant and recruited former coaches Fraser McLachlan, Aaron Wiffin and added Ryan Collings to his back room staff for the 2017/18 season. In 2018/19 Scott Reynolds was appointed manager and when he resigned midway through the season it was left to Paul Bonham to take control but because of ground grading issues the Southern League made the decision to relegate the club and so after ten seasons in the Southern League. Phil Granville and Ben Gill were appointed midway through last season and will kick off the 2020/21 season again in the Spartan Premier Division. Steve Bateman was re appointed as manager in September 2021 and replaced summer 2022 by Michael East & Liam Dwyer

Over the years the club has grown and has won many tournaments and trophies, especially at county level. Many teams have toured abroad and the club has also entertained boys from Europe and America. We can boost that we are the only boys club to have a club pennant on display in Barcelona's trophy room. At the start of the season 2001/02 the club was the largest junior club in the Aylesbury area, running teams from under 8's through to under 18's. At the end of the season 2001/02 the club managed to win the coveted Berks and Bucks Cup at under 14's, the Mayor's Cup at under 12's, represented in two other cup finals, won 3 league titles, gained 6 promotions in total and all teams finished in the top 6 to the fairplay awards for their respective leagues. In the last 20 seasons across the age groups the club has won 25 divisional titles, and runners up 20 Intimes.2019

Former Chairman Bill Harrison was made President of the club. Great success on the field of play was to follow, with the team having a fantastic run in the F.A. Cup. We were the last 'level five' team in the country to remain in the competition and were rewarded with a visit to Haywood Way for the F.A. Cup trophy, allowing the team, supporters and local people to get their hands on this famous trophy and make the most of this memorable occasion. We were finally knocked out of the competition by Wealdstone in a close game. A brave and superb display was witnessed by a bumper crowd of 800 plus.

two became one when the sides amalgamated with the intention of allowing the youth of the town to progress through junior football to youth and then adult football and play at the highest possible level.

FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round was upon us and a long trip to Yate Town for the Dynamos. Not the best preparation with the coach breaking down twice and some road closures meant we didn’t arrive until 2pm at the ground.

Team: Liam Studley; Will Mullarkey, Jake Baldwin, Jack Hodgins, Terry Griffiths; Tom Kennard, Jamie Fulton, Dave Brown, Abu Khan, Prince Nimoh; Sam Wood

With Stapes and Ollie both unavailable, Easty and Dwyer put Wood up front with Abu and Prince on the wings in an attacking line up.

Less than half an hour played and both sides were creating chances. Dynamos were the more clinical as they took an unexpected lead against the Step 3 opposition. Abu exchanged passes with Brownie and swung in a ball which beat their defender and landed at the feet of Prince, and he did the rest, curling the ball into the bottom right corner for a superb goal again. 1 2 Dynamos.

It was a fairly even start with Yate winning an early corner and Prince heading wide from a Baldwin corner. Abu had a great chance as Sam Wood set him up but his shot went wide of the post. Moments later Yate went down the other end and a composed finish saw them take the lead. 1 0 Yate Town.

Liam Studley was on hand again in the Dynamos goal to make another smart stop, putting his body in the way of a great shot. Yate were having a good spell before the break and Griffiths and Hodgins were battling superbly well at the back. However the pressure finally told and despite another decent save by Studley, the ball rebounded out and their striker slotted the ball home. 2 2.

Yate then thought they had scored a fourth as a well worked piece of play saw them in front of goal and their strikers shot beat Studley, hit the far post…across the line and hit the near post and was cleared by Griffiths. Yate’s pressure saw them get a vital 4th goal as they broke forward and a ball over Baldwin’s head saw

Sat 3rd Sept 2022 Yate Town 4 AVDFC 3 (FA Cup)

The second half started with more lively play from both sides. Firstly Prince found space out wide and crossed the ball just over the head of Sam Wood. At the other end Mullarkey was on hand to block a cross as Dynamos defence was stretched out of position. Abu was having a great game on the left flank and he beat his player to supply a cross which was well cleared, Kennard got the ball and saw his shot wide of the mark.

12 minutes in and Dynamos were back level very quickly. Fulton picked up the ball in the middle and fizzed a ball out wide to Prince. He cut in superbly and hit a low shot into the bottom corner to level the scores. 1 1. Studley was called into action a couple of times soon after but was equal to any shots and also a decent tackle from Hodgins denied them a chance as we went past the quarter hour mark.

First substitution saw Mullarkey off and Loakes come in his position for a straight swap at right back. Abu then raced clear again but his cross was blocked for a corner. Baldwin swung the ball into the back stick but Yate cleared well. Yate then took the lead again as they broke forward and a nice run into the box allowed them to score past Studley from close range. 3 2 Yate. Antonio Ianelli was then introduced for his debut, replacing Tom Kennard in the middle. Brownie then showed his dogged determination, closing the ball down and forcing an error. Corner to Dynamos. Fulton swung the ball into the mix and Griffiths was there but couldn’t find the target. Sam Wood had a half chance as Brownie fed the ball through the middle but Yate defence was holding firm.

Sam Wood was replaced by Callum Shortt in the final sub for Dynamos with 13 minutes left. Yate were still pushing now and some great defending by Hodgins and Griffiths, throwing their bodies on the line to stop Yate scoring again. With a few minutes left, Hodgins was deployed up front to win the ball. Hodgins did create some late drama in the game as he battled well, won the ball and played a lovely ball out wide to Abu. He danced his way past the defender and hit a lovely cross to the back post where Hodgins had busted a gut to get there and bundled it over the line…well played Hodgins, great ball Abu. 4 3 Yate.

their winger cross and the ball was neatly tucked away past Studley to make it 4 2 Yate. It looked like game over…but Dynamos were still fighting.

Sadly on 44 mins a corner was allowed to bounce after a mis hit clearance attempt and was smashed in on the far post deflecting off a defender at very close range high into the net for the equaliser. Oxford City 1 1 AVDFC

Subs: Max Mayer, Sam Humphrey, Joe Leek, Matthew Morgan, Tom Powell Williams, Owen Westbrook

What a way to start a season! We took on, held our own and deservedly secured a victory over a Step 2 U18s Academy side who train at the Stadium complex with a 3G surface and excellent facilities while we spent last Tue moving goals around at Bowlers Field on a bone dry difficult pitch. This is not a complaint, far from it, but it proves that every now and then a TEAM which is prepared to run, tackle, cajole and work, for each other will come through. Significantly a total of 21 players made the effort to attend the game, each and every one played his part in the evening inc. unused subs Owen Westbrook, Matty Morgan, Tom Powell Williams, alongside Austin Mafunu, Gasika Sanaki and Rhys Plumley (Broken ankle) whom hadn’t made the bench.

The game itself was one of few chances on 3 minutes Sadibo Camera created and missed a good chance but on 5 min Oxford possession was turned over by Joe Hatton, Kris Collier taking on the loose ball, feeding a great diagonal ball over the full back to Tafara Dube, pulling the full back left and right, a perfect cut back on the 18 yard line into the stride the aforesaid Sadido who found the net with a confident first time strike.

0 1

Thanks also to the Club for helping with arranging a coach and the good number of friends, parents & supporters who made the effort to come down particular thanks to 1st Team Manager Liam Dwyer travelling from London immediately afterwork, watching the game to the arrive home in Stevenage around 12am, alongside our U23 Development Team Manager Will Dodds, for whom a number of our lads play in the Suburban League.

by feeding early passes into their dangerous left winger but determined work by Jo Hatton limited any damage. The rest of the back 4 of Prince Will, debutant Callum Bailey and Jet Dyer ably supported by Kenan Kiarie , Kris Collier & Amir Shah ensures we limited the any clear chances for our opponents. A series of free kicks tested our defences but fellow debutant Peter Letts in goal handled and kicked the ball well and pulled off a great save from a one on one. Up front Louis Bowman made a very good start to his season defensively one excellent recovery run and tackle stands out.

Team: Peter Letts Prendergast; Jet Dyer, Joe Hatton, Princewill Madu, Callum Bailey; Kenan Kiarie, Kris Collier, Amir Shah, Loui Bowman, Tafara Dube; Sadibo Camara

As the scoreline suggests the game was very much in the balance with both teams taking turns in having periods in control. Half time was productive with a couple of tactical tweaks and despite the late equaliser we went about our work with a belief.

Oxford City U18's 1-2 AVDFC U18's

As cramp began to affect us Max Mayer, Sam Humphrey both competitive debutants and the steady but strong Joe Leek did their bit to steady the ship and after 6 extra mins the Referee brought to an end a pulsating game.

On 60 mins a pin point free kick from the excellent Amir Shah was powered home by Jet Dyer, with our size and strength telling at a key time, from then on Oxford as expected made consistent efforts to equalise, apart from a cross to the back post which came off the upright effort and 1 decent strike from the edge of the area we dealt with everything and created 2/3 half chances of our own as our game management showed maturity and experience, gained over the full season in the SCFYL last term.

Onto the next round and a home fixture v Swindon Supermarine on Thursday 15th Sept 7pm kick off. on Thursday 15th Sept 7pm kick off.

Compliments to our opponents on their reaction, the sporting way in which the game was played and the excellent hospitality, despite a full on wedding in the function suite, many of whom spent the evening captivated by a top game for the level.
