Good afternoon and a warm welcome to the SRD Stadium as we take on Yaxley FC, I would to welcome all connected with Yaxley Football Club and I hope your stay with us is pleasant one. Yaxley have won 2 of their last 4 games but the games they have had some the positives results in are against very good sides, especially beating AFC Dunstable 4-2. This shows how strong this league is and anybody can beat anybody on the day. We are focusing on a very tough game today. Having played Yaxley already this season we are fully aware of their strength in possession of the football, we have had them watched recently and all reports show us that if we don’t defend correctly it could be a long afternoon for us. They have some exceptional players in the squad which will need extra attention. Our undefeated run came to an abrupt end last week against Kempston, we missed a really good opportunity to move up a couple of places and put us in the mix of the next 4-5 clubs. All the players and staff were very disappointed in the result but more importantly the performance – not taking anything away from Kempston but we didn’t perform anyway near the standards we have set lately. Today gives us an opportunity to put this right, we are taking one game at a time and everyone understands the importance of this fixture. We are set up to win this game, if we perform as we did in the last few games then Yaxley will know that they will be in for a tough afternoon. Thank you all again for all your continued support, we need you all …. Be loud … Be passionate, your support will be extra man we need to help us with that valuable advantage!! #Moles.

Paul

The club has enjoyed a long history in senior and junior football dating back to the 1930’s under the previous names of Aylesbury Vale, Haywood United, Belgrave, Stocklake and Negretti and Zambra FC, which was founded in the 1930’s by workers at the Negretti and Zambra company then based in London’s King Cross district. The company moved to the Stocklake Industrial Estate, Aylesbury. in 1949 and by the mid 50’s the premises had a bar, football, cricket and tennis facilities. The football club joined the Aylesbury District League in 1954. The social club changed its name to Stocklake when Negretti and Zambra sold the premises to the local council, who then leased the facilities; hence the different sections adopted the name Stocklake. Under the guidance of Chairman Mr Ernie Crotty, the club gained many honours including runners up in ADL’s top divisions, before gaining intermediate status in the Wycombe and District League first and senior divisions. Sadly Ernie was killed in a road accident just before the club moved premises to the present location at Haywood Way in 1987. After gaining senior status and promotion to the Chiltern League in 1988, Stocklake enjoyed many further successes including Division One runners up in 1991, Premier Division and League Cup runners up the following season and Wycombe Senior Cup success in 1995. Cup success was also followed on in the following season, this time the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup being added to the trophy cabinet. Belgrave FC was formed in 1983 by Jim Sullivan who lived in nearby Belgrave Road. Jim had two sons who were passionate about football but were limited to where they could play, so formed a team himself with the help of neighbours Lynne and David Hatcher. By 1990, under the guidance of Danny Martone, Belgrave had grown to five youth teams providing football for over ninety boys from the Quarrendon and Haydon Hill areas of Aylesbury. 1996 saw the forming of two senior teams under the Belgrave FC name and by the turn of the millennium teams were represented at all levels from Under 8’s through to seniors, some 200 players being registered, this also including Stocklake Ladies. In 2000 four youth teams won league and cup honours, whilst the senior team went on to win the Aylesbury District Cup, the Field Shield and ADL Premier Division runners up. At the start of the 2000/2001 season, the senior Belgrave FC team was renamed Haywood United following an amalgamation with Stocklake FC with Danny Martone voted in as chairman of the new club. Haywood United joined the Spartan South Midlands League and won promotion into Division One after two seasons. Notable achievements during the 2001/2002 season included league awards for the best kept and most improved ground; this included the erection of floodlights and perimeter fencing, which Danny and his hard working committee fought hard to establish. Another award was gained for the match day programme in recognition of how much the club was developing.

Season 2002/2003 saw a difficult start in Division One, but with the arrival of manager Jon Franklin and his assistant Keith Walker just after Christmas, the club eventually consolidated finishing in 9th place. Promotion was gained to the South Midlands Premier Division the following year after a campaign that saw 23 wins, 7 draws and only 4 losses. Haywood United proved themselves capable of staying in the Premier Division after finishing 3rd in the 2004/2005 season in a campaign that only include one loss in the twenty matches after Christmas. The club also entered the FA Cup and Vase for the first time and won the Buckingham Charity Cup in 2006. Season 2006/2007 began with Haywood United becoming Aylesbury Vale FC and saw Keith Walker and Steve Gleinster take over as joint managers and steadily build a squad. This was recognised in the 2008/2009 season with a good cup run in the FA Cup and FA Vase, winning three rounds in the FA Cup losing to Level 4 side Gosport after a replay, and losing out in the 4th round of the FA Vase to Leiston Town.

After Christmas the side suffered due to long term injuries and finished mid table. May 2009 saw a major new development in a new semi professional side. Aylesbury Football Club was formed under the leadership of Chairman Roger Dance and assisted by Vice Chairman Danny Martone. Former Chairman Bill Harrison was made President of the club. Great success on the field of play was to follow, with the team having a fantastic run in the F.A. Cup. We were the last 'level five' team in the country to remain in the competition and were rewarded with a visit to Haywood Way for the F.A. Cup trophy, allowing the team, supporters and local people to get their hands on this famous trophy and make the most of this memorable occasion. We were finally knocked out of the competition by Wealdstone in a close game. A brave and superb display was witnessed by a bumper crowd of 800 plus. Meanwhile, away from the midst of F.A. Cup drama, our success continued, becoming 'Double Winners' Winning both the Spartan South Midland League and League Cup capping an extraordinary season and gaining promotion to the Southern League Division 1 Central. Steve Bateman took over in 2013/14, steered the club to safety in his first 6 months in charge. Then in 2014/15 with Bateman at the helm FC has their most successful season to date most successful to date. Playing at the highest level in the club’s history, the team finished third in the League, having been pushing for promotion all season and narrowly lost out in the semi final to Bedworth United having already beaten them twice in the league the 2015/16 finished with a flourish as the club finished just outside the play off positions, but had the consolation of our first major Cup Final, beating Chesham United in the Berks & Bucks Cup at Windsor. Steve Bateman and his management team resigned at the end of the season and Danny Gordon & Gareth Risbridger took the helm , supported by Paul Bonham , Ryan Wiffin & Aaron Norman. Davis Haule took over from Gordon & Risbridger in December 2016, appointed brother Brian as his assistant and recruited former coaches Fraser McLachlan, Aaron Wiffin and added Ryan Collings to his back room staff for the 2017/18 season. 2017/18 was a difficult season for club finishing 21st and avoiding relegation due to the League re organisation. This season sees a new era with ex Leighton manager Scott Reynolds taking over the reigns assisted by Matt Moran, Lea Coulter and the returning Paul Bonham. Aylesbury Football Club prides itself on clear ambitions: to progress to higher league football and to achieve higher league status with squads from local talent. The club hopes to continue to work with other local community groups and enhance the clubs facilities to benefit the people within Aylesbury.

Bedgrove Dynamos 4 Stoke Mandeville 1 – Cup Final On a chilly evening Bedgrove Dynamos and Stoke Mandeville lined up to contest the Marsworth Senior Cup Final at Tring Athletic's stadium. Both teams have had a tough route to the final, both over coming a penalty shoot out during their run. Dynamos defeating Elmhurst in the semi-final and Stoke Mandeville doing the same to Ludgershall in the 2nd round. Stoke Mandeville started the match on the front foot and had some early pressure. An early tester saw Mark Griffin make a smart save and a couple of early tackles from Melton Vaughan kept Mandeville at bay. Dynamos started to gain momentum after a frantic 5 minutes and Josh Gray in particular was seeing a lot of the ball at right back and making some great runs down the left flank, linking well with Taran Ashall and Chris Shennan. On the left side Keith Mupfururirwa was also getting some joy as he outpaced the Mandeville defence and swung in a dangerous cross which just eluded Chris Shennan and Stephen Lindsey at the back post. 12 minutes on the clock and Ellis Goodin found Keith with a great ball and his pace took him into the area where a Mandeville player fouled him, penalty awarded by the referee. Chris Shennan stepped up to slot the ball past the keeper. 1-0 Dynamos. Tackles were flying in and tensions rose with a couple of "meaty" challenges soon after the goal, resulting in a brief pushing and shoving match involving 10 players or so. The referee brandished 2 x yellow cards and the match re-started. Mandeville then turned up the pressure in a scrappy 10 minute spell which saw them have two free kicks in quick succession. The first was well saved as Mark Griffin tipped it round the post for a corner and moments later another freekick was blocked by Tom Willis.

Dynamos ended the first half the stronger team. Stephen Lindsay and Matthew Fellows were both instrumental in holding onto the ball and creating the space needed. Chris Shennan also delighted the crowd with some quick feet and great ball to Stephen Lindsay and his shot was well saved by the Mandeville keeper. The resulting corner was swung in and Keith's header sailed over the bar. With minutes remaining of the first half, Dynamos then doubled their lead. More excellent work from Matthew Fellows as he slotted the ball through the defence and Chris Shennan was on hand to calmly beat the keeper to get his, and Dynamos, second goal. Half time 2-0 Dynamos. The second half started much as the first had finished. This time Taran Ashall playing in Chris Shennan again, but this time his shot was well saved. Another corner and another header from Keith went just over the bar. Dynamos were in control and the next goal would be crucial. The next 20 minutes saw both teams creating half chances but a midfield battle ensued with both teams making interceptions and tackles to thwart the opposition. 68 minutes in and a Mandeville foul on Matthew Fellows resulted in a free kick 25 yards out. Chris Shennan, looking for his hat-trick, hit the ball low and hard but it was blocked. The ball fell to the feet of Matthew Fellows who sidestepped a challenge and smashed the ball home. 3-0 Dynamos. Moments later Keith swung in a ball and Matthew Fellows rose above the defence and his header went inches wide.

Ryan Collings made his first substitution bringing on Dynamos favourite, Callum Grainge, into the middle of the park and he was straight into the action picking the ball up and playing Keith in down the right wing. His cross was partially cleared and Taran couldn't get his shot on target. Mandeville, to their credit, kept going and trying to create chances and on 79 minutes, their clearest chance so far...and this time they took it beating Mark Griffin from close range. 3-1 Dynamos.

Dynamos stepped up their intensity again to gain control of the ball. Callum Grainge againt the architect as he played a great ball to the ever willing Josh Gray. He burst forward skipping over two challenges and hitting a superb cross and Chris Shennan almost converted it. Moments later Frank Blacher played the ball to Stephen Lindsay and his pinpoint cross found Keith in the middle. Some quick feet and a superb finish saw him get a well deserved goal. 4-1 Dynamos. Elliott Johnson and Justin Fielding were brought on to freshen things up as Dynamos looked to wrap up the match. The final action of the second half saw Justin play a ball over the top and Matthew Fellows ran through with just the keeper to beat. He lobbed the keeper but was too strong and it flew over the bar. Final score 4-1 Dynamos. Mandeville put up a strong resistance early on but Dynamos class shone through in the end with great team performance. Some excellent performances this evening with Josh Gray and Matthew Fellows in particular having a major impact. Melton Vaughan was unflappable at the back. Chris Shennan was his usual class in front of goal and Man of the Match, Keith Mupfururirwa, was a constant threat all evening. Tom Willis lifted the cup and paid tribute to the opposition, Dynamos great cup run and remembered Luca Campanaro in his speech before lifting the cup !!!

Aylesbury FC 3 Dunstable Town 2 - Sat 16th Mar 2019 2019 – League After three wins and a draw from the last four games Aylesbury went into this game with great confidence, as they faced a Dunstable side who have slipped down the table in recent weeks and now sit just outside the relegation zone. With Davis and Brian Haule both suspended Sam Odusga slotted in at right back with Ben Stevens moving back into his new midfield role. Nick Bennion was injured in the warm up but the club have a very able deputy in Josh Thompson and so the ex Ampthill stopper came into the starting XI at the last minute. The wind had been increasing all through the morning so the players were greeted with horrendous conditions as they arrived at Haywood Way in what was not going to be an easy day for either side. Aylesbury won the toss and probably correctly decided to play the first half with the wind and were very quickly out of the blocks, Bruno Brito had an early shot trying to take advantage of the conditions but the ball flew over the bar. Man of the match Ryan Young who was to give the away defenders a very busy afternoon then got to the bye line, put in an excellent ball across the face of the goal but the ball just evaded the advancing Brito. The first real chance came on nine minutes when Ben Stevens found himself in an attacking position on the right hand side of the penalty box, he released Young again into the box and his low cross was met by Ty Deacon some ten yards out but the striker could only turn the ball just over the bar. On twelve minutes a cross field ball from Ben Stevens found Ryan Young in space, the winger cut inside the left back but his left foot shot was partially parried by the defender and flew into the keepers arms. As the half continued, the wind was having more and more effect on the game, a goal kick from Connor Coulson in the away goal caught on the wind and almost went backwards for a corner kick, ending up with a throw in to FC right by the corenr flag. The first goal, which looked like it had been coming since the first minute eventually did come on thirty one, a ball into Ryan Young found the young striker, he cut inside the defence and slotted past the keeper for a deserved lead. Goal number two came just a minute later when Ty Deacon flicked home a cross from Ben Stevens on the right. Two minutes later though and the away side had pulled one back, on a rare Dunstable attack a ball across the box fell to James Lauder and he fired home from eight yards. The two goal lead was almost restored when Ty Deacon's powerful shot cannoned back off the right hand post, three minutes later though and it was. Deacon himself was played in and the striker approaching the box and with just one defender to beat spotted Lewis Merridan fast approaching on his left and slipped in the midfielder who finished calmly past Coulson. This was always going to be a game of two halves in the horrendous conditions and so that was to be proved. With the home side now battling against the conditions it was Dunstable in the ascendancy and within two minutes they had pulled a goal ack when Jordan Jenkins was adjudged to have fouled a striker in the box and Chris Wreh dispatched the penalty past Thompson. The rest of the half was spent with FC defending on the edge of their box but with Dunstable unable to unlock it and really trouble Josh Thompson. There were a couple of FC breakaways, Young was put through but the bobbling pitch and wind sent him wide and eventually the promising chance came to nothing, Lewis Merridan then had an opportunity late on to feed in substitute Ken Feyi but the chance came to nothing. Aylesbury held firm and the referees whistle went to bring an end to the game and another victory for The Moles

Kempston Rovers 3 Aylesbury FC 0 - Sat 23rd Mar 2019 2019 – League Aylesbury FC were on a 5 match unbeaten run and Paul Toms was in determined mood to make it 6 as the sun came out at Hillgrounds, home of next opponents, Kempston Rovers. They were also on a high after beating local rivals Bedford Town last week. Paul made just one forced change with Ben Stevens unavailable and Ken Feyi coming in to start up top. The match started and although Kempston had the majority of the ball, it was AFC who had the first chance. Ryan Young was looking bright and showed some silky skills to burst down the right and hit a cross which just eluded Ken Feyi. With 15 minutes gone, it was Sam Odusoga who won the ball and again played in Ryan Young. He turned his man and squared the ball to Lewis Merriden and his shot whistled over the bar. A couple of minutes later and Kempston had their first meaningful attack when Ben Shepherd set up Izale McLeod but Nick Bennion was equal to it with a smart save. However the next move saw Shane Bush play a ball over the AFC defence for Izale McLeod and he hit a delightful lob over Nick Bennion as he raced from his goal. 1-0 Kempston. Ryan Young was having a tough match as another foul on him sees him crumpled on the floor. A breather for AFC players as they re-group but Ryan Young looks in pain. 37 minutes on the clock and Hayden Clack makes a quality tackle but came of worst as he is substituted for Jordan Gilbert. Kempston Captain, Shane Bush, became the first, and only, name in the book just before half time with a mis-timed tackle on Lewis Merriden in the centre of the field. The first half came to an end with another decent save from Nick Bennion to keep the score 1-0 Kempston at half time. Kempston came out quicker in the second half and were straight on the attack. Shane Bush was causing AFC issues and his determination to win the ball saw him deflect a shot from Wright, past Nick Bennion and into the goal. 2-0 Kempston. Kempston were now full of confidence and passing the ball around nicely. AFC were struggling to hold onto the ball. Jordan Jenkins and Craig Carby were winning the majority of defensive battles but the ball kept coming back. 55 minutes and Izale McLeod burst through but this time Sam Odusoga came steaming in to won the ball with an excellent tackle. Kempston were in control and another shot from them went inches over the bar. At the other end a rare opportunity for Ty Deacon to move forward saw him play a one-two with Ryan Young, but he couldn’t beat the last defender. 67 minutes and the pressure told, Shane Bush chased a ball through but some hesitance in the AFC defence meant he managed to get a shot away. Nick Bennion got his hands to it, but it trickled over the line. 3-0 Kempston.

Ryan Young was subbed straight after the goal with evergreen Davis Haule his replacement. AFC rallied for a 10 minute period with Davis Haule looking to motivate the group and getting straight in winning the ball and playing a lovely ball to Ty Deacon. He managed to get in a cross and Ken Feyi’s shot was blocked. A foul on Lewis Merriden gave AFC the opportunity to fill the box. Bruno Brito, who had a quiet match, swung in the free kick and Jordan Jenkins won the header but AFC couldn’t connect with the ball as Kempston cleared their lines. The final minutes saw both teams seemingly settle for the 3-0 final score. A tough match for AFC but Man of the Match, Sam Odusoga, was in great form and kept going until the final whistle.

The club was formed in 1900 with the forerunner of today’s club, Yaxley Rovers, being members of the first Peterborough League campaign contested during the 1902/03 season. History up until the Second World War is not well documented and the first instance of a post-war championship came about in 1950/51 when the club won the Peterborough League Division Two. Relegation was just around the corner though, and it was back in Division Three by the end of the 1950’s. The Club has always played either in or on the fringes of the highest levels of local leagues which, over the years have been sponsored and known by many names such as Eastern Counties, Jewson, and Peterborough League. The Cuckoo’s finished as runners-up three seasons in a row, the last of these being enough to see the club promoted to the Premier Division of the Peterborough League. The club’s first taste of Premier Division football came at the start of the 1975/76 season and once again they finished runnersup. The following season they went one better and won the Premier Division title. The 1983/84 season was a superb one with the first team winning the treble, the Peterborough Premier Division, the Peterborough Senior Cup and the Hunts Senior Cup, and the Reserves winning the Peterborough Division One Championship. The Cuckoos left the Peterborough League at the end of the 1987/88 season and made the step up to the Eastern League at the start of the following season. 1993/94 saw the purchase of the new ground and the facilities to step up to the United Counties League and the 1994/95 season was at that time, probably the most successful in its history. This was the debut season of the ill-fated West Anglian League (amalgamation of the Hunts & East Northants Leagues) and the first team won promotion to the United Counties League after winning the championship. The Reserves also won Division One of the same competition thus emulating the feat of 1984/85. During the close season floodlights were erected and a stand was put up at the Leading Drove ground. The following season saw the Division One championship come to Leading Drove. The 2002/03 season saw the Reserve and Youth teams win the lion’s share of league and cup silverware whilst Jim Watson took over the management of the First Team making a magnificent charge from the relegation zone of the United Counties League Premiership to finish seventh with 67 points – the club’s highest ever finishing position. The same season saw plans unveiled for new facilities that are part of a five year objective to take the club into the Dr. Martens (or equivalent) league. Plans were also made to incorporate Yaxley Juniors and establish a new Ladies team to assist in creating a community orientated football club. The ‘03/04, 04/05 and 05/06 seasons have undoubtedly been the clubs most successful ever with the 1st, Reserve, Youth, Ladies and Junior teams all bringing home trophies including at senior level, the prestigious Hinchingbrooke Cup and the UCL League Cup in May 06. The club has maintained FA Charter Club status and was granted planning permission to redevelop the site, improving the facilities (e.g. new clubhouse and additional playing areas) to FA community standard. The project was severely delayed in 2005 resulting in significant commercial loses due to an access dispute halting the club’s entire development plan. The dispute was finally settled and the project restarted in August ’06. Season 200809 saw the move to more temporary accommodation. The last 3 seasons have been some of the toughest in the clubs history as against the pundit’s opinions; Gary Clipston pulled survival from the jaws of relegation. The 2012-13 season saw a total rebuild of the 1st team and players under the management of former Cuckoos player and Reserve Team manager Brett Whaley (assisted by Chris Lenton) and the reinstatement of the clubs Reserve Team acting as a bridge between our flourishing U18’s and 1st Team. The 1st team finished mid-table and were joint winners (along with Royston Town) of The Hinchingbrooke Cup,

the reserve team were runners up in the league and the league cup and the U18’s were league champions and league cup winners (comprehensively beating AFC Rushden & Diamonds). All in all, not a bad season. 2013-14 saw the dismantling of the reserve side due to a lack of bodies to manage the team to an acceptable level and a brand new U18’s team coming up from U16’s football – a very tough season ahead. The 1st team finished 6th in the league table—a highly commendable result but the FA and League Cup competitions were massively disappointing although we probably created a couple of new records in the process. 2014-15 saw the Cuckoos enjoy a very good season with an excellent FA Vase run and a 4th position in the league but one of the worst disciplinary records in the clubs history compounded by an embarrassing county cup final display to round off a poor run-in to the end. The surprise of the season was the “shock” departure of Brett Whaley to Wisbech Town having only days before presented his plan and budget for the 2015-16 to the clubs committee which was approved. 2015-16 A new brush and a new era with new manager Ian Benjamin, an ex-professional with massive experience in semi-pro and non-league and a track record of promotion at Step 4 and 5. The biggest change for the club was the new 3G pitch that the club and the community have already benefited from enormously. The club would like to place on public record its deep and sincere appreciation to all those silent partners who have made our dream for growth and sustainability a reality. Ian Benjamin resigned at the beginning of April and the position was filled by the return from Wisbech Town of Brett Whaley. 2016-17 Brett Whaley showed his intent to take the Cuckoos to a higher level of football by strengthening the squad with some impressive experience whilst retaining the vast majority of last season’s players. Last season was a disappointing one for the whole club but that was quickly forgotten. Brett brought back players and a great coaching team. In addition to an impressive 3rd place in the league we also won the UCL KO Cup beating Wisbech Town in a fiercely contested battle. 2017-18 saw our new Chairman Malcolm Clements officially set the clubs target for promotion and building on the success of last season, started what we all hoped was the next forward step for the Cuckoos. Our local attendances began to swell and also got behind our reformed Reserves. Assistant manager Andy Furnell took over the 1st Team management as Brett Whaley once again left the club. Ferns led the club again to the league cup final (runners up) but more importantly to the league title and PROMOTION to the Evo-Stik SOUTHERN LEAGUE. 2018-19 on the back of a tremendous season, the Cuckoos are looking to sustain their rise to step 4 retaining the complete squad from last year. And bolstering in a couple of areas. The Reserve team led by Lloyd Burton is looking to improve on a successful last season having finished a solid 6th in the league and UCL Reserves KO cup title. We are all looking forward to the challenge - COME ON YOU CUCKOOS!!
