Kilwinning

C A R N I V A L 2013 On behalf of Promoting Kilwinning I would like to welcome you to this souvenir guide to our annual Segdoune Royal Carnival. In preparing for this event we reflect the tremendous event we had last year, with over 8,000 people on the street during the day, Kilwinning was definitely the place to be that day, with great entertainment and plenty to keep all ages amused. We aim to have as good an entertainment portfolio for you again, but realistically, we realise that we will never see the like again… as I don’t think I will see Royalty again celebrating 60 years on the throne! The Town is the first to Launch in North Ayrshire with a unique project "Keep Kilwinning Tidy". This joint working between Promoting Kilwinning, North Ayrshire Council, Councillors, Zero waste Scotland and Kilwinning Academy, is about Kilwinning taking a pride in itself and asking locals to share that pride. Promoting Kilwinning organises two clean-ups a year plus locals adopting a spot… if you feel you can help please let us know. Our events are starting to suffer, basically due to a lack of volunteers to take our events forward or simply helping out on the day, so please do consider helping - especially as we are bidding to have Kilwinning on the route of the Commonwealth relay in 2014. Thank you to all our supporters and Royal family both past and elect for representing Kilwinning so well. I hope you enjoy the Crowning and Carnival. With Best Regards Donald Reid for Promoting Kilwinning. A date for your diary… Kilwinning Christmas Lights Switch On takes place in Main Street on Thursday 21st November.

T H A N K S Thanks go to everyone who helped make this year’s event happen, particularly North Ayrshire Council Community Development Grants; Streetscene, Natural Beauty, Nick Smalley, Cooperative Funeral Care, John Bennett , PRYDE at the Playz, Scottish Police Force - Kilwinning Academy pupils and staff, Irvine Herald, Irvine Times, s1kilwinning.com, the advertisers in this programme, all of our acts‌ even those too late to be included at the time of printing - and a big thank you to all of the Kilwinning Primary Schools for their assistance in the selection of the Segdoune Royal Party.

Abbey Tower Kilwinning Heritage Centre in the Abbey Tower will be open on Carnival Day from 11am until 3pm. It is run by volunteers as a small museum of local history and heritage and contains many items of local interest. Volunteer guides will take visitors up to the roof of the Tower for panoramic views of the Ayrshire coast and the Clyde islands, visiting the 1816 clock and bell mechanisms on the way. If you decide to tackle the 143 steps to the top of the tower, your reward will be the best views in Kilwinning!
