DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

For my logo design I knew that I wanted to stick with text rather than an image however I was unsure on whether I would be using my full name or just my initials. I am looking to create a simple logo that reflects my personality yet is still very minimalistic to fit in with my personal taste. I want to be able to achieve a professional appearance which is why I think using my name as logo rather than an image works better as it is sleeker and more sophisticated.

I then began to look at various fonts that are typically used for business cards. I found quite a lot of inspiration on Pinterest however didn’t think that many were suited to my personal taste. Keeping my logo in mind, I began to test oui various fonts that I believed would fit in with my theme and overall design scheme. As I want my designs to be quite simple I knew that the typeface style I wanted to use had to be sans serif. From this I then experimented with a variety of fonts and also in different colours.

After testing out the different sans serif typefaces I decided to go with Microsoft Yi Baiti as I felt it is clean cut and simple, and very much reflected what I am going for with my business card design. I then started to play around on InDesign with this font colour scheme using my full name as a logo to come up with some business card ideas. I am aiming for a very sleek, sharp and minimalistic look with my business cards which is why I have selected a monochrome colour scheme of black, white and grey. As I am not using any images on my business cards and for my logo, I still want them to have a different edge so that they are not plain and boring,. I then started to experiment with borders and small, simple shapes to see what effects they would have and I ended up really liking the circle design and wanted to keep this as a running theme.

I really like the choice of using Microsoft Yi Baiti for my logo however, after viewing it in different contexts with my practice business card designs I have decided to change my logo to just my initials as it is much cleaner and easier. I also think the use of solely my initials makes more of an impact and it is a lot more personal.
After changing my logo to simply my initials, I then looked at the previous business card designs I had come up with and some of my original sketches and began putting together my final design. I stuck with the circle theme and was then able to enhance my logo by including this and placing my initials inside. I decided to stick with a simple black and white theme rather than including grey as I feel it is a lot cleaner and more sophisticated. I chose black for the front of the business card as it stands out more and grabs attention and chose white for the back. I carried on the circle theme running through as I included the logo on the back of my card as well, just above all my personal details.

For my CV design I found lots of inspiration from Pinterest, one of the main being the idea of putting the data into columns in order to narrow it down. However I found by still doing this my CV was going to cover two pages due to the extent of work experience I have had. For the header of my CV, I chose to enlarge my logo and place it central of the page which will attract attention straight away. Following on from the circle theme I have been using throughout my self promotion, I diecided to create a line of minature grey dots to balance out the CV as there is a lot of information on it. I kept the layout similar to that of my classic cv with six sections: profile, education, skills & qualities, interests & achievements work experience and referees but was able to play about with the layout a bit more as I had narrowed the information down by putting it into two columns.
