Spring Training Conference

1. Division 39N wins the spirit at Spring Training Conference. Good job guys, we finally stole it from Division 39S! 2. Southlake Carroll High School wins ‘most spirited club’ award at Spring Training Conference.

Spring Training Conference occurred May 17 at Boswell High School. DIVISION 39N GOT THE SPIRIT STICK! GOOD JOB GUYS. Also, shout out to Southlake Carroll High School for being so spirited and getting the most spirited club award! I was able to meet a lot of the clubs and officers, everyone had such good spirit and initiative. I know Division 39N is going to have a great year!

For those clubs who weren’t able to attend, please arrange a time with me so we can make sure you receive information that was provided at training. Overall, I was super impressed and pleased by the attendance and spirit of our division!

Officer Installation Ceremony

Pictured above are a couple of us at the Officer Installation Cermony. Starting from the far right is me, Southlake Editor, Emily Bond, Southlake Treasurer Madison Donohue, District Treasurer, Colin Gonzalez and LTG Andrew Loh.

Officer Installation Ceremony was held on May 20 at the UTA Welcome Center. New officers were inducted and able to meet other officers within the division. We had officers, Kiwanians, advisors and guests from the district board who attended. Thank you to everyone who came!

What have our clubs been up to?

Sam Houston High School’s Eliminate Event: Sam Houston hosted an Eliminate event on May 10 2014.

There was a Super Smash Brother’s torunament set up, that required a fee to play the game. There were around 30 people in attendence, and was an overall success! Good job Sam Housoton for taking early iniative!

Pictured above are Martin High School officers with posters made for Eliminate Week. Starting from the far right, Secretary, Mohammed Taha, President, Tran Le and Historian, Andrew Chun.

Martin High School’s involvement in Eliminate Week: Martin made posters and fliers and hung them around school. They organized a penny drive, and announced in on the annoucements throughout the week.

They ended up raising $444, saving 246 lives!

Hey 39N! I loved meeting so many of you through visits, Spring Training Conference and Officer Installation Ceremony this past month! Every officer and member that I’ve met has had such drive and passion for their roles and responsibilities, meaning Division 39N is going to rock this Key Club year(right, right?)

Although, summer is here(finally!) it is important to understand that the Key Club year still continues. So continue to have board meetings, plan service projects, and turn in reports, articles and newsletters!

Feel free to always invite me to any meetings, events or project you all are having, as well as extend the invitation to other clubs within our division! The more service the merrier, and we want strong unity and interaction within Division 39N! ENJOY YOUR SERVICE FILLED SUMMERS -Aysha Moneer

Eliminate Project March of Dimes, Children’s Miracle Network UNICEF

As you plan your club’s service programming for the year, keep these organizations in mind. Each Key Club is encouraged to participate with our partners as we join together to make a difference in the lives of children.

Key Club International on Major Emphasis: Key Club International brings together all Key Club’s members’ efforts and energies into an area that makes an international imapact through the Major Emphasis, “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” The Major Emphasis unites Key Clubs under the banner of service that deals with the most important part of our community, our youth.

What’s Eliminate?

What’s March of Dimes?

The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.

Key Club International on March of Dimes: Since 1978, Key Clubs have hosted fundraising and awareness programs to support the March of Dimes, raising over $116,000 through fundraisers in 2011 alone! Key Club members, like you, can support the March of Dimes each semester: in the fall, raise awareness by hosting programs throughout November for Prematurity Awareness Month and in the spring, raise funds by participating in March for Babies, the March of Dimes largest annual fundraiser.

What’s Children’s Miracle Network?

Key Club International on Children’s Miracle Network: Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) is a nonprofit organization that raises money to benefit hospitalized kids while increasing awareness of its member hospitals. All CMN Hospitals contributions directly benefit hospitals, helping to purchase up-to-date equipment, train staff, conduct life-saving research, implement outreach programs and provide health care for children whose parents can’t afford to pay.

What’s UNICEF? UNICEF(United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund), the only organization of the United Nations dedicated exclusively to children,works with other United Nations bodies, governments and non-governmental organizations to assist in children’s needs through community-based services in primary health care, basic education, and safe water and sanitation in more than 150 developing countries.

UNICEF shares the Kiwanis family’s global commitment to children and has provided its extensive resources and leadership to assist in the Worldwide Service Project to virtually eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD) from the globe.

Key Club International on UNICEF: Since 1994, Key Club has been Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF and over the years has raised nearly US$5 million for iodine deficiency programs worldwide and HIV and AIDS programs in Kenya and Swaziland. Now it’s helping The Eliminate Project.

Governor’s Project Every year the Governor of the Texas-Oklahoma district chooses a project that can be completed and done on the district level. This year, Governor, Kaitlyn Wilson has chosen the Children’s Miracle Network as the Governor’s project.

Even if your club has done an event/project for the Governor’s Project, I want to, as a division keep this as a consistent project throughout the year. Be on the lookout for upcoming innerclubs or service projects I will be organizing for the division!

If your club attended Spring Training Conference, then you all have already completed the Governor’s project! Complete the Governor’s Project Completion Form once it is released later in the year for a patch at DCON 2015!

District Project The district project is chosen as a project done on a district- wide scale. This year, the district project is the Eliminate Project. The project’s goal is to eliminate Maternal Neonatal Tetanus from the face of the earth. As Texas-Okalhoma District, this next year we are putting specific attention to the Eliminate Project as our district project.

This next year, as a division we will have fun and creative service projects, events and socials for the district project- Eliminate. So, get ready for this next year to be filled with raising both funds and awareness for the Eliminate Project! Let me know if you have any ideas regarding events or projects we could do as division.

Key Club International on the Eliminate Project: To eliminate MNT from the Earth, 129 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take $110 million—and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family.

Summer Servin’ • School may be over, but Key Club isn’t! Make sure throughout the summer your club has board meetings and service projects. Officers get together and create service projects for Eliminate, Governor’s Project, or anything within your community!

• Feel free to invite me and the other clubs in Division 39N to projects or socials throughout the summer and year! I’d love to come to as many events as possible and extend the involvement to other clubs, in order to strengthen 39N’s unity!

Summer Service Project Ideas: • Volunteer at local soup kitchen • Organize a car wash, and have the money go towards a particular charity(Eliminate, March of Dimes, etc.)

• Make cards for kids at the local hospital • Gather toys, books, etc and donate them to your local shelter • Organize a bake sale and have the money go towards a particular charity.

• Have an ice cream social with your club or division and have the money go towards a particular charity.

• Keep me in the loop with what is going on with your club • Make arrangements with me for training if you did not attend Spring Training Conference or would like further training.
