Coffee Grind Musculature November, 2016, Charcoal Drawing, 16" x 19", AP 2D Design Coffee Grind Musculature focuses on the manipulation of midtones created by the coffee stained paper. Instead of forcing the charcoal to fill in the spaces, the coffe stains themselves act as the midtones for the image. Therefore, white must be added to the piece to draw out highlights. The piece also focuses on perspective and how it has the potential to skew the image; this can be seen by the large hands.
Distorted Self Portrait October, 2016, Charcoal Drawing, 12"x16", AP 2D Design Distorted Self Portrait focuses on the manipulation of facial features to create a more interesting composition, as compared to classical portraiture. While distorted, the image itself is still drawn in a realistic manner. Therefore, it transcends the boundaries of realistic art through its merging of abstract content with a realistic drawing style,
Live Drawing of Roommate September 2017, Charcoal Drawing, 24” x 30”, I did a rough sketch of my roommate using charcoal pencils.
Piranesi Studies November 2017, Sketch Drawing, 32” x 48”, I used sketch pencils and charcoal to create a mockup of a classical Piranesi drawing.
Da Vinci Studies November 2016, Charcoal Drawing, 17”x11”, I used charcoal and pencil in an effort to mimic Da Vinci’s sketching style.
