By Azam Hamdoon
Did you know that when it comes to marketing every ones not your customer ? And Did you know that if you are marketing to everyone you are marketing to no one? Yes that’s right… It’s important to note that when it comes to marketing in the online space or in the offline space you need to identify your target market. Do you think you can drag a vegetarian to a beef store, will that make any sense? Not really right? Because no way that the vegetarian is going to consume beef as he or she is a vegetarian. Most of the time when people say what I market is really not working, I am not seeing much results, 80% of the time the answer to that problem is they are talking to the wrong people who are not really interested in what they have to offer and when that happens it can really have a negative effect on the work you put as you are not seeing results while going through whole loads of frustration. So today that’s all going to change as you are going to know exactly how to identify your target market and how to talk to them by going through these 3 questions
So what are these 3 questions to help you identify your target market 1. What problems does your brand, product, service solve? Don’t you think this is the best place to start in identifying your target market? People are always looking for solutions to their problems, and you need to know exactly what your brand, product or service is going to solve. Let me show you some examples here Let’s imagine your product is a detergent powder and the problem that particular product helps to solve can be to make white clothes especially brighter & whiter.
If your product was an acne removal cream the problem the product solves is to remove acne from your face. And in the same way if your product or service was about teaching people how to market online the problems a products like that would solve would be on how to generate more leads to their business, how to produce more sales faster, how to influence people better, how to work on their mindset for greater results and so on. So as you see you need to know exactly what problem is it that your product or service is going to solve.
2. Who has those problems? So once you know the problem your product or service can solve the next step is to find out who has those problems. So as per my detergent powder example the people who have the problem there could be school children who wear white uniform to school or some times more than the children it can be their parents who wants to dress their children with brighter & whiter clothes, or it can be corporate executives who wear white shirts or other white tops or it can be the clergy who are dressed in full white. On the acne removal cream example it’s pretty straight forward where people who want to look nice can be male can be female looking for a smooth nice looking skin. And on the example where the products teaches how to market online better the ideal target market their will be internet marketers or network marketers who want to learn exactly how to market more effectively online while being able to produce better results in their business. So now you know what your product can solve, you have identified who has those problems, and the next question to ask is……
3. Where do those people hang about? If it was the offline world where would your ideal target market hang about, it can be in shopping malls, it can be in super markets, it can be wet markets, it can be in trade shows…. So in the same way you need to identify where exactly your target market would hang about in the online world.
And as social media sites like facebook, twitter, pinterest, instegram, linkden, google plus are popular and more and more people are spending their time there social media is definitely a place to tap into to find your target market. So you can find your target market on facebook groups, you can see what type of hashtags are they hash tagging, google plus is a another place to find your target market especially inside communities something similar to facebook groups, you can see what your target market is searching on google, You can find them on twitter and see who they are following on twitter, instegram is another a social media site that’s getting popular day by day where you can find your target market by the use of hashtags. And once you have found exactly where your target market is and where there hanging out it’s about placing your message in front of them can be in the form of a blog post or video post on how to solve their problems with what you have to offer your products, your services by providing valuable information. And that’s how you get them to subscribe and purchase stuff from you or team up with you. So there you have it, the 3 questions to help you Identify your target market, this is the key to selling. By knowing the problems what your product can solve, knowing who have those problems, and knowing where those people with those problems hang about is going to give you a clear understanding on how to be lazer focused.
