Country profile GIZ ID/TL/ASEAN and IS INDONESIA Indonesia is a country on the move. Due to its regional significance the archipelago is accounted to be one of the anchor countries in South East Asia. GIZ has been working in Indonesia since 1975 on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Technical cooperation with Indonesia dates back to 1958. The official partner on the Indonesian side is the National Development Planning Agency (Badan Perencanaan dan Pembangunan Nasional –BAPPENAS).
[5]
Resulting from the agreement concluded during the government negotiations in October 2007 with the Indonesian Government and following the changed role of Indonesia in a global and regional context, German-Indonesian Development Cooperation is currently concentrating on the following three priority areas: Climate Change In this sector, GIZ supports projects in the fields of Reduction of Greenhouse Gases in Cities and Industries, Sustainable Urban Transportation Implementation, Forestry and Biodiversity as well as Renewable Energies.
Private Sector Development To create jobs and income to reduce poverty in a sustainable way, GIZ-supported projects focus on Regional Economic Development, Vocational Education and Training and also Social Protection. Good Governance/Decentralisation Projects focusing on Decentralisation, Anti-Corruption and Women’s Civil Rights support decentralized structures at all levels of government in a coherent and systematic way.
Country profile GIZ ID/TL/ASEAN + CIM and IS TIMOR-LESTE GIZ has been working in the country on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) since 2000. Current priorities are peacebuilding and development. Better prospects make it easier to deal with social conflict without resorting to violence. Young people in rural areas in particular need to realise they can achieve recognition in society. Employment is the key to escaping poverty and violence
ASEAN German Development Cooperation is actively promoting and strengthening relevant institutions and actors for the regional integration process of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Upon commission by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ is cooperating with ASEAN in the focal areas of “Climate Change and Environment” and “Regional Economic Integration”.
INTERNATIONAL SERVICES SOUTHEAST ASIA In addition to the German Federal Government, GIZ also works on behalf of international donors, governments, foundations and companies with worldwide operations. Projects for these clients are carried out in the business area GIZ International Services. The activities in Indonesia, Timor-Leste and with ASEAN under the delivery mode of GIZ International Services are centrally managed from the IS regional office for Asia in New-Delhi, India.
The government and authorities are being advised on implementing international maritime standards. We are also implementing rural development measures with cofinancing from the European Union.
