THE WEEKEND VILLA DESIGN INTENT: The goal is to create a living space that is accessible to everyone in all conditions. I wanted the Villa to be a centralized area, in which the communal region is surrounded by the more private workspaces and rooms. By doing so, this helps promote the idea of creating an environment centered on community and family bonding.

LNDBRG: GARMENT PRODUCTION Darla Lindberg is an aspiring fashion designer who has set the goal to start up her fashion line on a larger scale. Based in the Garment District of New York, this building was one of many structures who played a major role in the garment production of the early 1900’s. The surrounding buildings serve a similar purpose, which makes Darla Lindberg’s use for the space appropriate and historically reminiscent of how the space was once used. Desiring a space that is suitable for a larger production of clothing, this building must accommodate the design and production of new clothing, as well as office space for her expanding staff who will be in charge of branding and graphic design. Packing and shipping will also be taking place, which will also have to be taken into account when allocating space. There are two units which are owned by the tenant, which can be rented out to other individuals. Darla has the 11th and 12th Floors available to her, as well as a small unit on the Ground Floor which will serve as her Pop-up Shop space, which can be used to display and sell her up and coming fashion designs.

HOPE REVISTED: THE OBAMA PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY Barack Obama being one of the most influential presidents in United States history, designing a museum for such a significant figure is no simple task. Not only did President Obama make a historical impact by being elected as the first African American president, but his efforts in the future to unite Americans will be looked upon in the days ahead. Not only is this building supposed to recall the events of the Obama Administration, but it is also intended to unite the Chicago community, and to promote a healthy change in all the economic classes of Chicago. Located in South Side Chicago, the site for the Obama Presidential Library will be in Jackson Park, which is alongside Lake Michigan and near the University of Chicago. The program elements include a museum, recalling the Obama Administration, the library which houses documents from the administration, as well as a Community Center, which reflects Michelle Obama’s efforts to reduce childhood obesity in her “Let’s Move” Campaign..

THE WITNESS BOX CHAIR

Set in the Knight Law School at the University of Oregon, the Witness Box Chair is meant to reflect the atmosphere of the law school while also possessing a style which can be implemented in various settings. Constructed out of beech hardwood, the Witness Box Chair is designed with a modern twist on the Arts and Crafts Movement, making it a unique interpretation of a traditional style.

STEWARDSHIP, SIMPLICITY & LIGHT The Eugene Religious Society of Friends is dedicated to facilitating the growth of all members of the greater Eugene area. They have expressed an interest in expanding to the Whitaker area in an effort to make stronger connections with those who are in need of assistance. The “Unification” program aims to respond to the Friends’ philanthropic ambitions by addressing various types of adult illiteracy. The new facility will include a number of learning spaces that will be used to improve parenting literacy, reading language literacy and financial literacy. This community outreach will come in the form of seminars/educational opportunities that support healthy and informed lifestyles for Eugene’s adults.

WALK THE LINE when fashion and dining merge... Los Angeles is an extraordinary city brimming with life and energy. With fashion being a strong focus in this metropolitan hub, it has become an element of urban life which has become ingrained in Los Angeles society. My design focuses on embracing fashion while immersing oneself in a sculptural environment. It is a way to be on the edge of cutting-edge fashion design while simultaneously integrating oneself in this unique community. Fashion shows in the modern world have changed immensely since the classic runway days. They no longer feature a straight catwalk, but instead have become its own art-form in the way new fashion is displayed. This design represents a twist on new fashion show design by creating a unique circulation pathway for fashion models to travel on. The infinity path allows for the weaving of fashion models through the space while simultaneously allowing a smooth connection between the floors so that the fashion show is happening in multiple dimensions. The programmatic features of the space include a Fashion studio, restaurant/cafe/bar, as well as a fashion event space.

THE SHOP HOUSE As of the past several years, South East Portland is beginning to transition from a relatively old-building style, to a more urbanized feel. As you move along SE Division St., it becomes apparent how developed Portland, especially Division St., is becoming as you move towards Caesar E. Shavez Blvd. Serving as a multi-purpose building, this structure includes two shops on the ground floor, with a series of apartment units directly above the stores. Along with the two units and shops, there are two additional units on the third floor, making it a two shop/ four unit building. A key feature of this design is the sculptural staircase along the front facade, as well as this illusion that the building is constructed by a series of blocks with punch outs. There is the illusion that these blocks are solid, but upon entering the building, it becomes apparent that these solid units are actually hollow and occupiable, making use of the space to the fullest.
