BY MARK K CAMPBELL While no time frame has been etched in stone, Spring Break looms as a date for two prominent positions in the Springtown ISD to likely be filled – one before and one after. Superintendent Mike Kelley said he has received many top notch candidates to replace out-going SHS principal Chris Pennington and head football coach/athletic director Brad Turner. “I’m very excited about the quality of candidates for both positions,” Kelley said. He added that Springtown – as a town and as a school district – is enticing to many. “The applications I’ve received refl ect that these positions are both very desirable jobs,” he said. Kelley said that the football coach/ AD position will be the first filled. “I thinks it’s fairly typical for schools our size to bring in a new head football coach in mid-spring so he can begin evaluating the existing program. “A signifi cant portion of his work is likely done by then – football games, scheduling, realignment, etc.” Replacing Pennington as SHS’ principal is trickier since that position is loaded with many activities that take place after Spring Break – STAAR testing, teacher contract renewals and evaluations, and graduation to name a few. “I suspect that each of the principal PLEASE SEE SISD, PAGE 2A.

Her reaction to receiving the award was earnest and forthright. “I am so excited to have been chosen to receive the Jack Harvey award this year,” Westberry said. “A plaque listing past recipients hangs in the board room at Central Services with some pretty legendary names. “I feel extremely honored to be recognized with many of my most

admired colleagues,” she continued. “The awards ceremony was wonderful and I will treasure the experience for years to come.” Her nomination was fi lled with superlatives: “Mrs. Westberry is exemplary because she encompasses all the traits of a model teacher.
