‘Bay hands FD the boot Briar VFD takes on more territory, one station at a time by carla noah stutsman By a vote of three “for” and two “against”, the Pelican Bay city council voted Monday, Dec. 8, to terminate its contract with the Pelican Bay Volunteer Fire Department (PBVFD). Voting against the measure were council members Sabra Swaim and Robin Finstad. Voting for the termination were council members John Shumate, Kenneth Wrinkle and Glenn Oberg. Immediately after that action, the council voted unanimously to enter into a contract with the Briar Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) to provide both fire and first responder services within
the city of Pelican Bay. Early in the meeting, three PBVFD firefighters spoke to the council. Former council member Richard Petty told the council the PBVFD has made great strides and worked hard. “We’ve been a role model for several youth within the city, and some of them actually have careers now,” Petty said. “Fort Worth city council member Joel Burns has referred to the department as a thriving, up-and-coming department.” Petty asked the council to reconsider its thoughts and work with
the fire department, talk with the fire department and to give us an opportunity to correct any mistakes.” PBVFD Chief Michael Mitchell said he’s heard rumors that the council planned to replace his department, but said no one on the council had ever come to him to express any failures on the part of the PBVFD. “The Mayor led me to believe nothing would change,” Mitchell said. “I’ve heard rumors – the fire department this, and the fire department that – but no one will say who said any of it. Ministry dinner event shines by carla noah stutsman Evening Son Shine, held Thursday evening, Dec. 4, at 404 West Main St., was the first fundraising event ever conducted by Son Shine Ministries – and thanks to the many friends in the Azle community, it was a “shining” success. David Shaffer, director of Son Shine Ministries, said he and his staff were uncertain how many people would turn up for the event. But the Son Shine Team – comprised of Shaffer, his wife Daniele, Missions Coordinator Amy Collins, her husband, Son Shine Team member Paul Collins, and event coordinator Michelle Maxfield put on an event not soon to be forgotten. Alongside fajitas grilled on-site by Uncle Julio’s Mexican Restaurant and entertainment by the ever-popular Bob and Johnie Terry, a silent auction piqued the interest of many. “We wanted to do this – not only to inform the community of what our
need is, but to inform them what the ministry is about and what our plans are,” Shaffer said. “Our focus has never been on money, but on serving families.” Shaffer said everyone at Son Shine Ministries is thrilled about the success of Evening Son Shine. “The turnout was fantastic, and the whole evening honored God and was a lot of fun,” he said. “We had two goals for the evening: first, to inform people about what Son Shine Ministries does, including our plans for 2015; and secondly, to raise funds to help us fulfill our plans to strengthen families through our programs.” Both those goals were accomplished. “The feedback we have received has been encouraging – many have told us they knew about Son Shine Ministries, but now they actually know what we do, and are strongly behind us,” Shaffer said. A number of people impacted by
Son Shine Ministries’ programs shared their stories during the event, including former Azle High School coach and favorite teacher, Adam Brady and his wife, Sara. “Like most nonprofits, Son Shine Ministries relies on donations to help complete its mission,” Shaffer said. “The crowd attending the evening dinner event gave generously, both directly and through a silent auction – thus far we’ve received more than $10,000. Several are also now partnering with the ministry as monthly donors, and others are still considering a gift.” Drawing from almost 40 years of experience providing a mix of programs throughout North Texas, the U.S. and even abroad, Son Shine Ministries is intent on strengthening the family with emphasis on the marriage relationship and parenting, Shaffer said. The best news is that, beginning in PLEASE SEE MINISTRY, PAGE 5A.

Clerk recovers as robbery Azle suspect remains at large author releases book based on study of Noah by carla noah stutsman
Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) investigators continue to seek a suspect in the brutal aggravated robbery of the Briar Hill Grocery on FM 730 North in Briar. Shortly after 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, a young female clerk working in the story alone was struck in the head by a man who took an undisclosed amount of cash from the business’ cash register. The man fled in a dark-colored, four-door sedan that displayed a third brake light in its rear window, according to TCSO spokesman Terry Grisham. The case supervisor in the investigation, Lt. Mike Ford, said deputies and investigators assigned to the case worked all weekend, including late nights, and will continue to do so until the suspect is identified and arrested.
“We are getting responses – anonymous tips – and have been ever since this offense occurred,” Ford said. “We are chasing down these leads. Some are more fruitful than others, but we are checking them all out.” Other law enforcement agencies have also been helpful in the investigation, Ford said. “The weapon the suspect used in his attack – a homemade weapon, not a firearm – was recovered at the scene,” Ford said. “The good news is that the victim is out of the hospital and recovering from her injuries.” Grisham said the suspect is believed to be extremely dangerous, and cautioned citizens to call 911 if they see him. “Do not attempt to capture or detain this suspect,” Grisham said.

Azle resident Dr. Dean Posey is he author of “12 Gifts Photo courtesy of Dean Posey We Can’t Afford to Lose.”
TCSO investigators need the public’s help to identify this man, who severely injured a female clerk at Briar Hill Grocery about 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5.
By Natalie Gentry Azle resident Dr. Dean Posey has spent the last three decades sharing God’s unfailing love with his congregations. He was the pastor at First United Methodist Church of Azle from 1999 to 2013. The current senior pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church of Arlington has now taken another step to share God’s gifts with the publication of his book “12 Gifts We Can’t Afford to Lose.” Raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico in a family with five brothers and sisters, Posey graduated from Manzano High School and went to Baylor as a pre-med student and Chemistry major. He met his wife, Diana, the day before classes started their freshman year at Baylor. They became good friends, but did not date for three years. “After my sophomore year, I felt God calling me into full time ministry as a pastor,” Posey said. Growing up in the United Methodist Church, Posey said he felt led to become a United Methodist pastor. He finished at Baylor and then went to Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta where he earned his Masters of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees. After Baylor, Diana attended the University of Tennessee for a degree in Physical Therapy. She is a home health physical therapist in Azle and Parker County. “We were married after she graduated from physical therapy school which was also after my first semester of seminary,” Posey said. He dedicated his book to Diana – he calls her “Sunshine.” Jennifer Hudman, M.D., P.A. a board certified pediatrician, presented the winners, After seminary the couple moved to the Dal(l-r) Jayna Calk, Caylee Craig, Molly Meyer, Emmalin Hill, Jennifer Davis and Abigail Banda, of the Azle Pediatrics Colors of Christmas Contest with their prizes Monday, Dec. 8. Azle Pediatrics is located at 604 Southeast Parkway in Azle.

las/Fort Worth area and Posey began to pastor a church. He pastored several before coming to Azle, he said. Although Posey is now a senior minister in Arlington, the couple still lives in Azle. “We really enjoy the community so we both commute to work every day,” Posey said. “It’s worth it.” While at Azle, Posey was involved in the community, serving at the Community Caring Center and with the ministerial alliance. “Two of the community activities I enjoyed the most were watching the construction of the Community Caring Center building and being in charge of lighting the fireworks for the Follow the Flag event on July 4th at Central Park on Main Street,” Posey said. “The book has been a project of mine for many years,” Posey said. “It started when I was asked to preach a revival and I wanted to do something different. “After praying about it I decided to preach on Noah and the Ark,” he continued. “That led to a study of that story that has turned out to be an amazing adventure of discovering how the lessons from that story apply to our lives today.” Proceeds from sales go to support a new sports ministry sponsored by Trinity United Methodist Church. The money will be used to provide scholarships for kids who can’t afford to play organized sports. The Trinity Sports ministry plans to develop a Christian sports ministry in Arlington that will provide the surrounding areas with a safe, fun, and Christian-based environment to play and learn. Posey’s book can be purchased on line at www.trinityarl.org or at First United Methodist Church of Azle at 817-444-3323.

Pelican Bay council replaces ‘Bay VFD with Briar n PELICAN, FROM PAGE ONE. four minutes,” Morley added.
“I just hope y’all make the right choice,” Mitchell continued. “And if you do terminate us, I’d ask for the opportunity to get our equipment out of the building.” Another young man told the council his dad brought him into the PBVFD when he was about 14 years old. “We do the best we can with what we have,” the man said. Mayor Bill Morley presented the agenda item to the council, saying: “with what you’ve heard and what you’ve seen, I’ll leave it up to the council to decide, to make a motion for or against it and at that point we move on. Does anybody have any questions?” Council member Sabra Swaim did. “Well, yeah, I have lots of questions, because I have no idea what’s going on. Is this a contract issue? Or what is the issue?” Swaim wanted to know. “Well, we’re deciding whether to stay with the Pelican Bay VFD or go with the Briar VFD and let them take over our building here.” Swaim asked about the differences in response time between the two departments, to which Morley replied he thought it was about the same. “Briar said theirs is about
But Mitchell took exception, saying PBVFD firefighters live inside the city of Pelican Bay, while most Briar firefighters do not. The Briar firefighters would have to respond to their station, located about four miles north of Pelican Bay’s northern limit, pick up a truck and then drive back to Pelican Bay to respond to the call. He noted that Tom Reed, brother of former BVFD Chief Larry Reed, is an exception, since he lives in Pelican Bay and has a tanker at his disposal. Morley also noted that Pelican Bay firefighters who so desire may apply for positions within the BVFD. “Money-wise, it’s about the same, not that much different,” Morley said of the costs associated with each of the two contracts being considered. “There’s about $1,300 to $1,400 difference.” Council member John Shumate described a time when he was running for office, visiting residents in the city door-todoor. “Everybody I talked to wanted this fire department gone,” Shumate said. “I couldn’t understand it – and I’m not talking about one or two people, I’m talking about more than 100. Something’s got to change and we’ve got to do it tonight.
It’s a sad way of doing things, but we’ve got to address it.” Council member Glen Oberg brought up the city’s need for what he called “emergency technicians” in the city – “someone who knows what the hell they’re doing when they get here,” Oberg said. “I don’t fault them (PBVFD) too much on fires.” “[With BVFD] we’ll have first responders, a vehicle in the city that is thoroughly loaded with anything we need for first responders which is our biggest call out here,” Morley told the council. Swaim then asked if there was anyone representing the BVFD present at the meeting. Doug Stednitz, BVFD’s public information officer, was there. The conversation became a cacophony, with question and answers – some bona fide, some not so much – flying too fast to comprehend for a few minutes. It was Swaim, again, who got the room’s attention. “So there’s no one qualified for a medical emergency at this time?” she asked. The answer she got was: Correct, but Briar VFD does. Stednitz said he couldn’t say how many medically qualified personnel are active with the BVFD off the top of his head. When questioned specifically as to how many BVFD volun-

teers are Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), his answer was short. “One.” Apparently, the female is one of only a few Reno firefighters who remain active in that department since the so-called “merger” of the Briar VFD with the Reno VFD. According to Stednitz, BVFD continues to provide fire suppression and first responder services within the city of Reno under terms of a temporary contract. Changes at BVFD Briar VFD receives $97,000 annually from Tarrant County Emergency Services District 1 (TCESD1) to provide fire suppression and first responder services in an area generally north of Moran Road, west of Eagle Mountain Lake, south of Briar Road and east of FM 730 North. Even though former Briar Fire Chief Larry Reed stepped down from that position several weeks prior to the execution of BVFD’s current contract with Tarrant County dated Nov. 11, Reed’s signature is on the contract as Fire Chief. Stednitz explained that BVFD officials had signed off on the contract much earlier and then returned it back to TCESD1. “A stipulation we had to do

was to have a different chief before they’d (TCESD1) sign the contract,” Stednitz explained. “But since it had already been signed while (Reed) was chief, they signed it anyway.” Shannon Smithers is now the Fire Chief of BVFD; Reed remains on the executive committee of the department, Stednitz said. And with 41 active members on the roster, Stednitz confirmed that only one is an EMT. “We have a community to serve and a job to do,” Stednitz said. “We want to be the best trained and do the best we can do with what we have.” “We have several who have Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) training, and everyone does have the healthcare provider CPR course,” Stednitz said. “EMR is the first step to becoming an EMT – it’s the same as an Emergency Care Attendant (ECA).” ECA same as EMR. Asked if BVFD has a medical director, Stednitz answered in the affirmative. “I don’t know his name, but he’s a doctor in Azle,” Stednitz said. “I believe he’s the same one Azle Fire Department uses, as well.” Dr. Joseph David Cordova is the medical director contracted with the Azle Fire Department.

Responders not regulated According to a spokesperson with Texas Department of Health and Human Services (DSSH or “Dishes”), volunteer fire departments may choose to register as a First Responder Organization (FRO) with that agency. If they choose to register, they must comply with DHHS’ rules and regulations. However, the only incentive for a VFD to register as an FRO is that registered FROs are eligible to receive certain grant funds from the state of Texas. An organization that is not registered as an FRO is not accountable to the state to maintain its members’ medical licenses or training, according to the DHHS spokesperson. What does all that mean? It means that if you have a medical emergency – a heart attack, stroke, diabetic emergency, or even a car accident – and you call 911 for help, a trained and certified EMT or paramedic will respond DEPENDING UPON WHERE YOUR EMERGENCY OCCURS. In many areas, especially unincorporated county areas, the volunteers who arrive first may or may not have any medical training and/or experience. The Azle News will be covering this issue more in depth in upcoming weeks.

Ministry event shines n MINISTRY, FROM PAGE ONE.
Spring 2015, the six-week marriage program will be available on Main Street, right here in Azle. What makes the Son Shine? Son Shine Ministries was founded by former Air Force officers Lew Shaffer and Ted Platt and their wives, Sandy and Barbara in 1977. In addition to its obvious mission of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Son Shine Ministries is all about strengthening families. “I think people were very excited to learn what we do and where we’re going with it,” David Shaffer said. Son Shine Ministries is not a church. “Our team members are plugged into churches throughout the area. We are a support ministry to churches and military chapels. The way we do this is primarily through the presentation of marriage and parenting programs done either as a weekend program (6-8 hours) or as a six-week series (90-minute sessions),” Shaffer explained. “In 2014, we were out presenting programs thirtyeight weekends, sometimes at two separate churches on the same weekends. In addition to our programs, we offer regular studies in our community.”
Son Shine Ministries currently offers four programs – three related to marriage and one to parenting. “We have Indivisible, a wellestablished weekend program that looks practically at what the Bible says about Christian marriage. Prepare/Enrich is a six-week workshop on relationship skills in marriage, which includes a customized couple’s assessment on strength and growth areas. This program is our most popular marriage series,” Shaffer said. “Our newest weekend marriage program is Marriage in 3-D, an encouraging look at the layers of Christian marriage – Direction, Distinctiveness and Display.” “Our new parenting program is aptly titled Parenting: A Biblical Model and is a six-week series on God’s plan for the spiritual nurturing of children.” “All our programs use an interactive format, employ critical thinking, and focus on patterns of behavior,” Shaffer added. “They are biblicallybased, real, hopeful, practical, and fun.” Watch for more information about Son Shine on Main Street, coming in the Spring of 2015.

Big truck theft ops net four arrests
Four suspects were arrested in two recent covert operations targeting heavy-duty truck thieves in Tarrant County. Investigators with the Tarrant Regional Auto Crimes Task Force, in cooperation with the National Insurance Crime Bureau and the Arlington, Fort Worth and Grand Prairie Police Departments, initiated surveillance efforts after noticing a significant increase in heavy-duty pickup thefts across the county. Jesse Munoz, 25, and Delson Villa, 23, both of Dallas, were arrested after investigators observed the pair steal a Ford F250 from Cabela’s in north Fort Worth. The pair was also linked to the theft of a Ford F350 in Grand Prairie. Hank Henderson, 23, and Brittanie Fuller, 22, both Paul and Amy Collins round out the leadership team at of Red Oak, were arrested Son Shine Ministries.
after investigators observed the pair steal a Ford F250 from a Home Depot in south Arlington. The subjects arrived in a stolen Ford F350 taken from DeSoto earlier in the day. All four suspects face felony theft charges for the offenses. “Pickup trucks have been among the top three stolen vehicles in Texas for many years,” said Task Force Commander Bryan Sudan. “Over the past three years, however, we have noticed the trend shift from smaller pickups to the larger, heavyduty sized pickups.” Sudan cites the larger pickups’ carrying capacity as well as the demand for replacement parts as the primary reasons they believe the trucks are so popular. The tools and equipment often stored in these vehicles also make them
a prime target for thieves. “We have seen these trucks stolen for their parts, to be altered to smuggle drugs, weapons or people, or so the vehicle’s identity can be changed and sold to unsuspecting buyers for profit,” Sudan said. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s annual Hot Wheels report, the top three stolen vehicles in Texas for 2013 were the 2006 Ford pickup, 2006 Chevrolet pickup and the 2005 Dodge pickup. The Task Force wants to remind all vehicle owners, especially those with pickup trucks, to be extra vigilant and on the lookout for suspicious activity around their vehicles at home and at businesses. Using common sense prevention approaches such
as locking the doors, hiding or removing valuables and accounting for all of the keys will decrease the likelihood of becoming a vehicle crimes victim. The Tarrant Regional Auto Crimes Task Force is one of 29 state task forces grant-funded by the Texas Automobile Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority (ABTPA). The Task Force is comprised of investigators from 12 different agencies and is responsible for a seven-county program area, consisting of Tarrant, Parker, Wise, Hood, Palo Pinto, Jack and Somervell counties. The Task Force was formed in 1993, operates under the umbrella of the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office and serves approximately 2.1 million people.

Angel Band Christmas Tour
Christmas Tour of Homes
Project Graduation delighted long-time afficianados of the Azle Christmas Tour of Homes when they brought the cherished event back Sunday, Dec. 7, as a fundraiser for AHS graduating seniors. At the top, tour host and senior mom Gwen Gibbons chas with tourgoers. At left, this stunning tree was found in the Sigelquist home. The cozy Christmas nook above delighted folks touring the Harrah home.
The Angel Band Christmas Tour stopped in Azle Sunday evening, Dec. 7, to entertain concert-goers, help feed the hungry with non-perishable foods donated to the Community Caring Center and -- for Andrew Greer -- to catch up with dear friends from his hometown. Greer, a Nashville singer-songwriter, and his friend and fellow singer/songwriter Cindy Morgan and guests even took a selfie that included the crowd. ` Photos by Carla Noah Stutsman

Holiday movie list n HOLIDAY, FROM PAGE 16A.
4. White Christmas. While the famous song did not originate in this 1954 movie – it came earlier in 1942’s Holiday Inn – this movie defines heartwarming. It also spans generations as family members of all ages watch the classic let’s-put-on-a-show plot unspool flawlessly. Best scene Hard to top the men – Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye – singing “Sisters.” 3. A Christmas Story (1983). “You’ll shoot your eye out!” Everyone knows a kid shouldn’t have a BB gun, because that’s what will happen. But there’s much more to this very funny movie. Father Darren McGavin is especially good – and he won a lamp, a very ugly lamp! Best scene The ending where little Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) did shoot his eye out…almost…and the holiday lie that saved the day. 2. Scrooged (1988). Yes, the beloved 1951 original Scrooge did not make this list. (Nor did the really good George C. Scott 1984 made-for-TV
version.) This is hipster hero Bill Murray at his finest (along with 1993’s Groundhog Day). It’s funny and scary and filled with smarmy-Murray; it’s jam-packed with laughs. Best scene It’s between the opening with a really bad Christmas movie trailer for The Night the Reindeer Died, and “It’s a toaster!” where you will never look at a toaster again with saying that line. 1. It’s a Wonderful Life. There’s a reason this movie shows multiple times annually during the holiday season; it’s also the exception to the rule since only the last 30 minutes or so actually take place at Christmastime. It’s a near-perfect picture (that was a flop upon its 1946 release). James Stewart could not be better – Donna Reed, too – and almost everyone even today can relate to how their lives never somehow went as planned. Best scene The swimming pool scene is terrific, but if you The Azle High School Math and Science Team celebrates its second place don’t shed a tear at the end of this movie, you are Sweepstakes finish at Texas Tech Saturday. Senior Spotlight by sue turnipseed The B J Clark Community Center was a busy place last Friday when more than 65 seniors converged on the building in anticipation of fellowship, a good meal and some groceries to take home to help save some money. Food bank is the first Friday of each month and we have caring workers going to Fort Worth to pick up food and caring workers at the Center to arrange the food in an orderly manor for distribution to the qualified recipients who have eaten four meals at the Center between last food bank and this food bank. Volunteers receive only thanks and the joy of helping others enjoy a better life. Those present had a good meal based around beef and brown gravy. Those receiving groceries received a turkey, potatoes and other items. The pet food came for distribution to those who have signed up to receive it. You must be here to get your pet food as it cannot be kept at
the Center overnight. If you are not here your pet food will be given to others who are here. The Bridge Club met Friday and enjoyed playing until lunch time. This Wednesday the December birthdays and anniversaries will be honored. Robert and Lydia Voyles will celebrate 64 years and Murphy and Polly Mears will celebrate 67 years. Congratulations to these couples with long marriages. On Friday of this week there will be an Economic Security presentation around 11 a.m. After the presentation a lunch of barbeque pork rib patty will be served. The lunches are for a volunteer contribution of $2 for those over 60 years of age. Do remember to call 817-444-0070 the day before you plan to eat in order for a lunch to be ordered for you. If you feel lonely and left out of fellowship, remember the Azle Senior Center is open every Monday through Friday at 9 a.m.. Come on down and enjoy fellowship and food.
The Azle High School math and science team placed second in Sweepstakes at the annual Texas Tech “Christmas at Tech” UIL math and science invitational contest held Saturday, Dec. 6. Team members collected 23 individuals awards as well as four team awards, as well. The seniors on the team stood out, bringing home two and three awards each. Taylor Brown finished fourth in calculator, fourth in science and fifth in the general mathematics contest. Chris Caney placed first in calculator, second in science and eighth in the general mathematics contest. Bernie Duhan finished first in the mental math contest- number sense, third in the general mathematics contest and tenth in the science contest. Keni Martin, a senior competing as a first time math team member, finished second in calculator and seventh in the general mathematics contest. Senior Nathan Redmon took first place in his division of the science contest and scored
enough points on the physics portion of the science contest to bring home the individual award in physics. Junior Carl Bertsch finished fourth in the calculator contest, while his class mate Taylor Cubbage finished eighth in the calculator contest. The lone AHS sophomore at the meet, Shawn Kim, came away with the third place medal for his efforts in the calculator contest. Freshmen team members competed well, too. Skylar Ingram finished fourth in science and eighth in the number sense contest. Marlee Mazza, placed ninth in number sense. Ainsley McDonald placed third in science and fifth in the calculator contest, while Jennifer Wang placed second in number sense and tenth in the general mathematics contest. As a team, the AHS mathletes took first in the calculator contest and second in number sense, general mathematics and science – enough to earn them second overall.

Safe for the holidays Holidays are a joyful time, a time to relax with family and friends, to celebrate the close of the old year and the beginning of the new. As we head into December and many of us begin decorating and planning gatherings, it’s important to remember safety in the midst of all the excitement. Each year holiday-related accidents claim health, life and property. The good news is that many of these accidents can be prevented by taking simple precautions. Real Christmas trees bring a festive holiday fragrance to your home. Check out your tree lights for frayed wires, broken plugs, and gaps in the cord insulation. Don’t connect too many strings of lights. You could overload the sockets and cause a fire. Buy a tree that’s been freshly cut and keep it watered. A tree that’s been kept moist will burn more slowly in the event of a fire. For an additional measure of safety, consider an artificial tree and check to make sure it’s UL tested and flame-retardant. Candles can add a bright, cheery glow to your holiday décor, but be sure to use them with caution. According to U.S. Fire Administration, “December is the peak time of year for home candle fires. In December, 13% of home candle fires begin with decorations compared to 4% the rest of the year.” There are more candle fires on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day than any other days of the year. Place candles away from drapes and flammable materials such as paper or fabric. Use a fireproof candle holder. Make sure your candles are in an area where they can’t be knocked over by pets or children and never leave a burning candle unattended. Consider flameless candles as a safe and attractive alternative. Avoid poisoning accidents by positioning holiday plants and flowers out of the reach of children and pets.
Poinsettias, mistletoe, holly and holly berries, amaryllis, daffodils, and Jerusalem cherry are beautiful and traditional, but can be toxic to children and animals, causing issues if ingested such as nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, blurred vision, and in some cases, death. If you enjoy alcoholic beverages, do so in moderation and don’t drink and drive. According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), 43% of driving fatalities on Christmas Day are alcohol-related. In a survey tied to MADD’s annual holiday safety awareness program, 73 percent of respondents said they have been at an event and seen someone try to drive home after drinking too much. Use taxis or designated drivers and make sure your friends get home safely, too. Consider hiring a pro to hang your outdoor Christmas lights or decorate your 12-foot Christmas tree. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that nearly 6,000 people are treated in emergency departments every year for holiday decorating related falls. If you do decorate your own house and tree, make sure you are using a stable ladder rather than a makeshift solution such as a table or chair. Make sure cords and wires are not in walk paths where they can be tripped over. Keep yourself and your loved ones safe this season. Don’t ruin your holidays with a trip to the Emergency Room. Enjoy a safe and happy December! U.S. Health Advisors wants to make it easy for people to get quality insurance – they will come to you. Discover how you can protect yourself and your family by calling 817-917-6001. Appointments can be made from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Azle Christmas Parade was a treat for old and young alike. From the AHS Marching Green Pride, to Colorguard members dressed as elves, trains and miniature horses, colorful parade entries moved slowly down Main Street, which was packed. Lady Hornets win Brewer tourney By Mark K. Campbell The state ranked Lady Hornet basketball team – now up to No. 17 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 5A poll – continues to impress. Azle (9-1) won the Brewer tournament Dec. 4-6, taking down all four challengers. AHS began early, running away from Everman 57-27 at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4. Winning the third quarter 23-8 dashed the Lady Bulldogs. Payton Berger turned in a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Valarie Matlock just missed; she hit for 9 points while grab-
bing 10 boards. She led the Lady Hornets with 7 assists. Kaycie Dunkerley poured in 14 points in the rout. The next day, Azle got off to a big start with 21 first period points en route to a 43-35 win over Irving. Matlock had the hot hand, scoring a team-high 14 points. Fulfer netted 9 points. She also grabbed 6 rebounds as did Makenzi Bossert. Later that day, 6A Weatherford awaited. AHS expanded a 1-point first quarter lead – 1413 – to 46-29 two quarters later. Azle won 56-44 as three Lady Hornets reached double digits: Taylor Fulfer, 16; Mat-
lock 14, and Berger 11. Kylee Browne was the top rebounder with 10. In the title tilt, AHS faced district-mate Denton. Azle won, 45-27 with the third quarter being the difference. After the break, the Lady Hornets outscored the Lady Broncos 14-1. Berger led Azle with 14 points; Fulfer and Dunkerley added 10 points apiece. Making the victory even more impressive is that AHS Coach Mitzi Marquart plays with just eight athletes on the varsity – and one, veteran Nicole Aniasco, missed most of the event due to illness.

Wrestlers dominate Springtown at home This year’s wrestling season is well underway and Azle High School’s young team is improving weekly. On Dec. 4, AHS hosted Springtown. Azle Coach Chris Allen said Arlington Seguin was also supposed to come, too, but was double scheduled. “That was disappointing for our girls since they did not get to compete,” he said. The boys varsity and JV did face Porcupines and the Hornets won almost every bout – 21 of 28. Despite the impressive showing, Allen said, “We found some more things we need to
work on.” Two Hornets, Hagen Holbrooks and Shawn Mackey, stood out, filling in and winning weight classes 132 and 138. Two days later, the varsity boys competed at the Frisco Throwdown; Azle finished third in the duals tourney. The Hornets defeated Frisco, Fort Worth Paschal, and Euless Trinity. Allen said, “The kids competed really well. We just got our football guys back and need some time to get them into wrestling shape, but they competed well.” The coach said some athletes
especially shone. Colten Clearwater bumped up in class yet went undefeated. Also moving up and excelling were Cutter Cox and Seth Bell, Allen said. Marshall Gilbreath went unbeaten in Frisco. The annual Azle youth tournament – the Hive Open – was conducted Dec. 6 and “all but two of our kids placed,” Allen said. The popular event was attended by over 380 young wrestlers from all over the state. He added, “All our kids competed well and got the chance to do so in front of a home crowd.”

The subvarsity basketball Lady Hornets traveled to Justin to play in the Northwest tournament. The JV started the event with a 34-20 loss to Keller. Miranda Davis led Azle with 8 points. Breeona Cannon added 7. Another loss followed later that Dec. 4, 46-26. Davis paced AHS with 11 points while Cassidy Bowen scored 5. The next day, several young Lady Hornets scored in a 40-27 victory over Springtown. Leading the way were Murri Jenkins (7), Rachel Wood and
Cannon (6), and Davis (5). In the Dec. 6 tourney finale, the AHS JV poured in 24 first quarter points and won 47-37 over Keller Central. Wood scored 17 points. Macie Strickland added 10. The frosh went 3-1 in Northwest. After falling in the opener 40-22 to Keller, Azle won the next three games. Autumn Johnson scored 7 against Keller while Maria Parkison got 6 points. Azle edged Northwest 27-25. Savannah Johnson led with 12 points. Macey Hicks netted 6. In the freshmen’s final two
contests, the AHS D was impressive. The Lady Hornets limited Little Elm to a single point over three quarters en route to a 43-6 win. Savannah Johnson (12), Hicks (7), and Emily Jungman (6) led AHS scorers. The stifling defense continued in the tourney finale; Azle smashed 5-5A district mate Boswell 38-4. Pacing AHS – where the Lady Hornets led 24-3 after just one quarter – were Savannah Johnson with 14 points and Autumn Johnson with 5.

Hoops Hornets top Porcupines The first win of the season for the Azle High School basketball team came at Springtown Dec. 2. In the back and forth contest, the Hornets pulled ahead in the final period to win 66-63. It was the first game back for the football players; however, few played.
The Hornets, in a matchup of former district mates, used a 20-13 fourth quarter advantage to pull past the Porcupines. Both teams hit six threepointers each. But each squad labored at the free throw line with Azle hitting 58 percent and Springtown just 53. The game was even on
the boards, too, as each unit grabbed 24 rebounds. One stat where Azle impressed was a whopping 20 steals; the Porcupines stole just two. Three Hornets reached double digits in scoring: Brandon Martinez with 15, Bowen Meyer with 12, and Bryce Gum, a footballer, 11.
Azle’s Bowen Moyer (left) and Kaleb Patrick block out a Porcupine for a rebound.
AHS swim team vies in Wichita Falls Coach Steve Griffin took the Azle High School swim team to the Wichita Falls Challenge. AHS’ leading point winners were Jordan Gill and Maria Mercado in boys and girls, respectively. Right behind with 15 points were Hornet Alex Bridge and Lady Hornet Chloe Ritchmond.
Both Mercado and Ritchmond are freshmen. A slew of AHS competitors set personal bests. Lady Hornets improving were Abigail Kortokrax (50 freestyle), Madison Olmo (individual medley), Isabella Winchester (back stroke), Hadassah Marquart (50 free), and Ritchmond (IM and breast stroke).
Also turning in personal best times were Hornets Trevor Lease (back), Jack Kortokrax (fly), Dawson Stephens (breast), Ty Gordy (100 free), Dawson Lorenz (50 free), Tyler Brown (50 free), and Gill (IM). In Wichita Falls, Azle faced Old High, Hirschi, Rider, and Abilene Wylie.

Correction Last week’s letter from Joseph Bryan contained an editing error in the opening paragraph. It should have read: “After watching the endless marathon news coverage of a Ferguson, Missouri Grand Jury’s decision of a city police officer shooting an unarmed black teenager on Nov. 24 and post follow-up of rioting, looting, and arson of hooligans under the guise of legitimate protesters, it has become abundantly clear the stark reality of a rudderless nation in leadership of our elected leaders – and sadly, even our own law enforcement.” The News regrets the error.
Ghost town found on busy road south of Springtown
T
he site of a former town in a rural area always has a story to tell. It may not actually be a ghost town unless a few remnants of a previous life still exist. Such a community lies in Parker County just off Highway 51 between Springtown and Weatherford. My niece discovered the abandoned site while exploring country roads on a motorcycle with a friend. She took photos of historical markers which gave me enough information to search on the Internet for more. The town was called Cartersville, and was established in 1866, just a year after the Civil War ended. It was named after Judge W. F. Carter, one of three men who constructed a flour mill there for use by farmers in the surrounding area. The other two men were Henry C. Vardy and Thomas Parkinson. They built their flour mill on Clear Fork Creek, and the town grew up around it. The flour mill earned a reputation statewide for its product when in 1873 it was judged the “Best in Texas” at the State Fair
THE
of Texas, located in Houston that year. At its height, the community had two main streets, Main Street and College Avenue. The latter implies that a college existed. Small towns often created schools or colleges because of the residents' strong interest in education. (The present Texas Christian University began in 1873 as a small Add-Ran Male and Female College in Thorp Springs, a tiny community near Granbury. It was named after brothers Addison and Randolph Clark who started it.) In addition to the “college,” the town of Cartersville had a blacksmith shop, corn mill, cotton gin, the flour mill, a saloon and a general store. A school and two churches served the local families. The name changed from Cartersville to Carter in 1888 at the request of the postal service. Two towns named Carterville (no “s”) existed elsewhere in the state, so the Parker County one was shortened. The post office remained active until 1907, when 75 people lived there. Accounts say that the first post office was established in 1867, only a year
after the town began. Various people besides my niece have visited the site of Cartersville/ Carter, snapped photos of the state historical marker and some private marble monuand postPAGES FROM ments ed them on the WESTERN Internet. After my HISTORY niece told me J’Nell L. Pate about the site on Thanksgiving Day, I visited it myself. Following some Internet directions, with a friend I set out to locate any remaining structures and markers. One travels south on FM 51 two or three miles from Springtown and turns right on Carter Road. After about three or four miles, on the left is an open air tabernacle, some historical markers and an old boarded-

up, faded white, frame building. The latter was a church or school, or both. Old church pews can be seen in it. Inside the open air tabernacle in an alcove is an old piano that still has some keys that make a sound. Grass has grown up around the buildings, and a wire fence surrounds the tabernacle. This is what is left of Carter. A large, modern Faith Baptist Church at 1411 Carter Road is nearby. If you go to an intersection of Carter and Prather, you have gone too far. One of the stone markers reveals that an H. C. Vardy Flour Mill burned on November 14, 1891. It is not clear if this is the same mill owned by the three men or a different one that Vardy later operated alone. Another marble marker relates that “A gun fight at this location ended a cattlemen's feud in 1873 – the man of the house was left dead in the yard while the other man, badly wounded, rode away unassisted.” Another small marker said that W. A. McLaughlin saw Indians pass and later learned they had stolen the Davis boy and girl.” Population dwindled when people

moved away to larger communities to work, notably Weatherford, ten miles south. By 1920 Carter became a ghost town. One account said that a tornado struck, destroying many of the buildings. The two other Texas towns with similar names are a Carterville located in Harrison County in East Texas northwest of Marshall and a Carterville located in western Cass County, bordering Arkansas on the east. The latter is not a ghost town because it had 39 people in the 2000 census. The tiny bit of information gleaned about the Parker County Cartersville/ Carter certainly shows that the community had a story to tell. It makes one wish for more. If anyone in the area knows more of the history, you can email me at jnellpate@charter.net and perhaps I can share it in a later column. A Carter reunion funded one of the markers, but it was put up many years ago. Retired history professor J’Nell Pate of Azle has authored several books, many of which are on sale in the lobby of the Azle News.

Perry also urged Congress to pass legislation “to provide the resources necessary to secure our southern border.” Perry’s announcements come in the wake of President Obama’s executive action on immigration on Nov. 20. At the time, in a national broadcast, Obama said he would take various actions because of the protracted unwillingness of Congress to pass an immigration reform bill that addresses the legal status of millions of undocumented workers employed in Texas and other states by American business owners. A White House news release lists three elements of the president’s executive actions: 1. Cracking down on illegal immigration at the border to increase the chances that anyone attempting to cross illegally will be caught and sent back; continuing the surge of re-
sources that effectively reduced the number of unaccompanied children crossing the border illegally last summer; and centralizing border security command-and-control. 2. Deporting felons, not families to focus on the deportation of people who threaten national security and public safety; and directing immigration enforcement to place anyone suspected of terrorism, violent criminals, gang members and recent border crossers at the top of the deportation priority list. 3. Accountability through criminal background checks and taxes, to hold accountable those undocumented immigrants who have lived in the United States for more than five years and are parents of U.S. citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents. Meanwhile, Perry said, “It’s clear now more than ever that Congress must finally pass a bill that dedicates the necessary resources to securing our border, once and for all. Without border security, immigration reform is a fruitless exercise.”

Letter to the Editor Police force broken Dear Editor, I’m asking the American public to open their eyes! The police force is broken. Who is in charge? What worked 15, 20 years ago in law enforcement is gone. There is a lack of training, prevention, and oversight; it is long gone. This is a total shame for those that wear a badge. The number is now three that justice was not sued in the right procedure. In each one, those that did wrong should have lost everything – job, pension, and each one should have served time behind bars for at least 20 years wthout parole. It is a total shame where this nation is headed – down the toilet. Frederick Delorge Boyd
Son Shine Ministries thankful Dear Editor, It was my honor to serve as the coordinator for Son Shine Ministries’
fundraiser dinner called Evening Son Shine, which took place this past week at 404 Main Street in Azle. With more than forty business sponsors and ample ticket sales, we began the evening with all the event’s costs fully covered. What fun it was to see so many people from Azle, including a dozen local pastors, show up and invest in this solid ministry. The evening provided a great explanation of what Son Shine Ministries does (marriage and parenting programs for churches and military chapels) and their new plans for 2015. The entertainment was wonderful, the silent auction was fun, and the testimonies from some who had been positively impacted by the ministry were incredible. (And the fajitas cooked on site were amazing!) Thanks to the community for showing up and supporting this work! As a volunteer with Son Shine Ministries, I also want to add what a blessing it is for me to work with a group of people committed to God, our community, and to the mission of strengthening families. With Gratitude, Michelle Maxfield Evening Son Shine Coordinator

Azle News Wednesday, December 10, 2014
It’s a wonderful Christmas movie list What are the best Christmas movies? It’s a genre that never dies, especially on TV. Annually, Lifetime churns out holiday themed films nonstop. They are almost always forgettable. This year’s real stinker is Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever. With regularity, Christmas movies get released theatrically, too. They come and go, few have staying power. This year has produced what could be the all-time holiday turkey, Saving Christmas starring Kirk Cameron. When the movie got lit up by critics – religious and secular – and moviegoers – religious and secular – Cameron ventured to social media to try to get its pitiful early reputation restored. That backfired. Instead, the trolls descended and Saving Christmas has been receiving an avalanche of negative publicity; it’s currently ranked on Internet Movie Database as the worst movie of all time. It is not doing the recent upsurge in Christian cinema any favors. So, what are the best Christmas movies? Some movies are eliminated from consideration because they take place at Christmastime but aren’t really holiday movies – Gremlins (1984), Die Hard (1988), Rocky IV (1985), and Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) which has a Christmas scene that debuted the classic song “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” (However, one movie on this list gets a big pass on that requirement, because…well, you’ll see.) There have been holiday horror movies (Black Christmas [1974, hailed as one of the first slasher movies; this version is far more popular than the 2006 reimagining]), some unfairly maligned Christmas movies (Jingle All the Way [1996, Movie Man No. 157, a 5 – it’s often found on Worst Christmas Movie lists; it’s not that bad]), some that are unjustly forgotten already (like Jim Car-
rey’s A Christmas Carol [2009, MM #850, 7]), and some that are fading (The Polar Express [2004, MM #586, 6]). Most curious of all is that there has been no good movie about the actual origins of the season, Christ’s birth. A recent major effort, The Nativity Story (2006, #694, 6), was quickly forgotten. (The best might be an animated short by Don Bluth, The Small One from 1978; it pops up on TV occasionally.) Not forgotten are these 10 classics, the best Christmas movies of all time: 10. Love, Actually. If you’re under 30, this is likely a staple on your TV. It’s an R-rated British movie that follows eight different people in the ramp up to Christmas. This 2003 film is veddy British which means there’s plenty usage of their favorite adjective, the f-bomb. Plus nudity and sexuality. But it’s a pretty funny romantic comedy with a terrific cast that includes Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, and Emma Thompson among others. Best scene Seeing veddy white Grant, as prime minster, dancing is funny and so is a subtitled lake scene. 9. Home Alone. In late 1990, Macaulay Culkin took over the world. As
a kid forgotten by his traveling family and left at home, he has to fend off a pair of bumbling thieves and does so ingeniously. This movie was a colossal

is really worth seeking out. Best scene In the ’47 version, little Susan (Natalie Wood) is sure Kris Kringle is Santa Claus and her beliefs are cemented when she hears him speaking Dutch to a little girl.
7. How the Grinch Stole Christmas. There is no more love-it or hate-it Christmas movie ever made. The Movie Man loved it, giving it a rare 9 and Best of Year in 2000. It is without question the funniest holiday movie ever made – it and Scrooged (keep reading). The Grinch is Jim Carrey unleashed, and he’s a riot. Best scene: The first glimpse into Carrey’s lair is loaded with funny lines and visuals. Later a scene mocking director Ron Howard is hilarious. 6. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Some movies become major parts of a family’s lifelong dialogue as witticisms are lifted from films. That’s the case with this second Vacation movie. Aside from the fact that it’s fun to see some now-major stars in small roles back in 1989 (Julia LouisDreyfus and Johnny Galecki [The Big Bang Theory]), this is the Chevy Chase show before he got weird. Best scene There are a ton of laughs here,

but the scene in the attic where Chase looks at home movies manages to be moving, too. 5. Elf. With Love Actually, this is the most recent movie on the list, from 2003. You never know what film will hit with audiences, but this one did big time. It’s full of one-liners still quoted annually at Christmastime: “Santa Claus! I know him!” “Did you hear that?!” “You sit on a throne of lies!” The ending could be better, but Will Ferrell hits a home run here. Sharing my story: Poolville author Lauren Boehm Lynch writes stories of farm-life, family, and fun by Natalie Gentry Local author Lauren Boehm Lynch loves the time she spends with her husband Tim on their Broken Road Farm in Poolville. In fact, she enjoys the country living so much that she is always looking for a new way to share the “farm experience” with others. Lynch has written a series of children’s books, a young adult novel, a romance novel, and a cookbook. Each work is imbued with the essence of the Texas countryside and emotion of the author. In addition she writes a monthly column for the Poolville Post that explores the happenings on the farm and keeps fans up to date through the blog on her website www.laurenboehmlynch.com.
they want.” Like many inexperienced writers, Lynch wasn’t prepared for the inevitable responses from some publishers. “At first I didn’t have a thick skin,” she said. “After a bunch of rejection letters I just put it up.” At the time only family had read the book and Lynch worried that their love for her may be clouding their judgment of her work. “I started to think maybe it wasn’t any good,” Lynch said. “when I look back I know I should have just kept trying.” It wasn’t until Lynch married Tim that she tried again. “He said ‘you need to get the book back out, this is good work’ she said. “He gave me the courage to start again, to send it in and here we are.”
“The Storyteller” Lynch has always found a way to express herself through words. “My mamaw saved poems I wrote when I was a kid,” she said. “when she passed away I found them; she had saved them.” “There is just something about telling stories, I just love it,” Lynch continued. “I’ve always kept a journal and I’m an avid reader as well.” In an unusual twist though, Lynch’s favorite genre to read isn’t what she writes. “I love murder mysteries and I [for the most part] write children’s stories,” she said.
“Detour” During the time the manuscript sat in the closet Lynch stumbled upon and found joy in another career. “I never planned to become a nurse,” she said. “I went with one of my friends to take the test on a whim.” “I passed it and thought, ‘yeah I can do this,’” Lynch continued. “I absolutely loved it.” Lynch worked in the emergency room at John Peter Smith hospital in Fort Worth and later at a pain clinic. “When I retired and we moved out to the farm I decided to pick the book back up and try writing again,” she said.
“A Long Way Home” Lynch’s success didn’t come overnight, her first attempt at getting published in her late twenties didn’t go as planned. “A long, long time ago I started writing and I just didn’t have a lot of encouragement,” Lynch said. “I went through the whole process of sending the publishers query letters and the first three chapters, and all the things
“A Brave New World” Lynch wouldn’t trade life on Broken Road Farm for anything now, but the initial move to the country wasn’t something she took lightly. “I grew up in Azle and until I moved out here I never experienced life on a farm,” Lynch said. “My family had some land, but it wasn’t Lauren Boehm Lynch shares some affection with one of the goats on Broken Road Farm – the seta farm. Photo by Natalie Gentry “I was definitely more ‘town’ than ting for much of her writing.
‘country’” she continued. “There was a distinct fear factor with the move.” The early days on the farm and her experiences are what led Lynch to start her website and column. “My stories are about all the things that happened when we moved, and my experiences.” In fact the move and life on the farm has inspired all of her work in one way or another. “With Tim’s encouragement I pulled my novel back out of the closet, reworked it into a western, and sent it off again,” Lynch said. This time her book was accepted by a publishing house who also accepted the three children’s books that followed.
The “Down To The End Of The Road And Back” series includes “Working As A Team,” “The Yellow Butterfly,” and “The Wasp Sisters.” “Then as I was planning to submit ‘Nigh Critters’ I met another author online who was published through Fountain Blue Publishing and absolutely loved them,” Lynch said. “So I sent it to them to see what would happen.” The new publishing house accepted the book and Lynch made the move to Fountain Blue. The new firm allows Lynch more say in the look and feel of the books. “The first publisher provided an illustrator for the first two children’s books,” she said. “[The style] just didn’t fit with us.”
At Fountain Blue Tim Lynch, Lauren’s husband, creates the illustrations. “The Story of My Life” Every piece of writing that Lynch creates reflects the couple’s life and much of it is recorded on the website. I update the website weekly with recipes, author news, the store, Farmer’s Wife column entries, or photos of the farm,” Lynch said. “Recipes are usually shared every couple of weeks.” This is the first stop for fans to see what is coming up for the Broken Road Farm too. “I’m working on a new children’s book, “Snutter Butter the Kitten,” and a sequel to “Whispering Willows.” All of Lynch’s books are available at Barnes and Noble and Amazon.

Health & Wellness Prevent colds and flu before they start Though the holiday season is a joyous time of year, it’s also one when many people succumb to cold and flu. Spend-
ing so much time indoors in close proximity to others can increase a person’s susceptibility to flu and cold, so it’s no
surprise that the holiday season, when many people spend lots of time celebrating indoors with family and friends, marks the unofficial start to cold and flu season. Despite what Mom might have told you about going out into the cold with a wet head or leaving home without wearing a coat, such actions do not increase your risk for cold and flu. But being cooped up indoors, where germs from others who are sick can fester, can increase that risk. gle Crest Villa where there’s always Cold weather also can be hing fun going on. Police warn of IRS scam Citizens throughout the City of Weatherford and Parker County intermittently have reported phony phone calls to the authorities. Reports say the caller purports themselves as agents of the Internal Revenue Service. At times the caller may try to convince victims they are legitimate agents of the IRS in an attempt to solicit money for unpaid taxes. These scare tactics are generally used against the victim by threatening criminal action or jail time. According to Lisa Lake, a consumer education specialist with the Federal Trade, there are several
ways to recognize these types of scams and foil attempts to extract money: Scammers will often: • call you. But when the IRS contacts people about unpaid taxes, they do it by postal mail, not by phone. • use common names and fake IRS badge numbers. • know the last four digits of your Social Security number. • demand payment via a prepaid debit card or wire transfer. The IRS doesn’t ask for either of these payment methods, nor will they ask for credit card numbers. • rig caller ID information to appear as if the IRS really is calling. • send fake emails that
look like legitimate IRS correspondence. • make a second call claiming to be the police or department of motor vehicles, rigging the caller ID information. To protect yourself from imposters who call, claiming to be from the IRS: • don’t provide any account or other personal information. Hang up the phone. • never wire money to a person or company you don’t know. Once you wire money, you can’t get it back. • if you owe - or think you owe - federal taxes, call the IRS at 800-8291040. IRS workers can help you with your pay-

ment questions. You also can visit the IRS website at irs.gov. • if you’ve already paid your taxes, call and report the incident to TIGTA at 800-366-4484. • forward emails from the IRS to phishing@ irs.gov. Don’t open any attachments or click on any links in those emails. • file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint. Include “IRS Telephone Scam” in your complaint. For more information on this type of scam and many others that are occurring throughout the country, please go to http://www.consumer. ftc.gov/scam-alerts.
