He retired in 2013. He and his wife Sherry – who has been in education for 29 years herself – have two sons and a daughter. Their oldest son, Matthew, and their daughter, Kelly, both followed in their parents footsteps and became educators. The youngest son, Jacob, is a civil engineer in the San Antonio area.
