Welcome to Wild West 31, ya’ll! EVENT SPONSORS

The popular Wild West Festival rides on – 2015 marks the event’s 31st year. You can expect the usual crowd pleasers as well as a few surprises. Look for the popular gathering of gunfighters and their thrilling – and very loud – face off. The good guys battle the bad guys in front of the Tabernacle on the Square. Watch for the famed Wheel-

ie-ing Elvi – fake Elvis Presley wannabes – as they zip along in the parade on mini-motorcycles. Children have a ball at the WWF; they have a slew of play options. And expect the usual exceptional array of arts, crafts, and food. Last year was the first for the Wild West Whiskers beard contest. It’s back and with new categories – including one for

kids! Two festival mainstays remain popular. The classic car show brings some incredible vehicles from bygones eras, all competing for more than 30 plaques. The competition sets up just beyond the Square, in the Municipal Court Annex parking lot. Then there’s the barbecue cook-off. With $2,000 up for grabs,

brisket, pork spare ribs, chicken, and even beans chefs are battling for some dough and bragging rights. Follow your nose into Springtown Park where the cooks will get busy. Look around our Springtown. You’ll see a traditional Texas small town with a strong business district, super schools – Springtown is the only school

in the Lone Star State with a Porcupine as a mascot – and friendly faces everywhere. So, take this guide along to get a feel of the expansive Square and grounds where new delights await everywhere. Inside you’ll also find maps and lists of performers and activities. So, welcome to Springtown and the Wild West Festival ya’ll!

Church doesn't have to be dead or boring, but should be a live, vibrant, life-changing weekly experience. I hope you will find Hilltop Family Church to be just that. We are a church where the love of Jesus is not only taught but lived out. As I have said many times, "Come visit us some Sunday. If you don't like it, I wouldn't go back either!" What have you got to lose?” Conway, seated above, is shown with (l-r) church secretary Dena Martinez, youth minister Brent Coplen and associate minister/ church administrator and elder Darrell Mathis.

Springtown area churches come together to support the community Bringing the community together in the name of Christ – that’s the common goal of local churches from the Springtown area that come together as the Fellowship of Christian Churches. While there has always been camaraderie and cooperation between the churches, the Fellowship aims to unite the entire community in honor of the Lord. “We do want to unite around Christ and around the cross as a body of believers,” said Pastor Doug Harris of Agnes Baptist Church. “We do it together, and we do it for the Lord – let’s recognize Christ, because he’s the glue that sticks us together.” The Fellowship has once again come together to sponsor the 31st Annual Wild West Festival as a way of serving the community while making a statement about their unity in the body of Christ. This the second year the Fellowship will be an event sponsor; they did so the previous year in honor of late Pastor

John Conway, who was passionate about unifying the local churches. “This is a legacy he wanted to leave,” Harris said. “He would want the community to see that their churches gather together around the cross.” The Fellowship is involved in many other community events as well, Harris said. They host the annual school prayer event, and they work in conjunction with the Springtown Area Chamber of Commerce to provide food and gifts at the annual luncheon for new teachers. Harris said the Fellowship also gathers together monthly to eat and pray together in the heart of Springtown. “We meet once a month and have lunch, and weather permitting, we go to the Tabernacle and pray together for our community,” Harris said. “Our greatest desire is that we want to see not only God’s blessing on our community, but our community blessing God by the way that we live.”

Ward WestAir: Oldest business in town keeps up with times, serves community Springtown’s longest operating business sits right in the heart of the town square. Ward WestAir prides itself in being deeply rooted in the history of Springtown and is a participating sponsor in the Chamber of Commerce’s Wild West Festival Saturday, Sept. 19. The Ward family established Ward Welding in 1936 as a blacksmith and service shop for local farmers and ranchers. They added welding supplies and industrial gases as well. Then in 1995, Dale Shaw and his son Quinn purchased Ward Welding and Supply and expanded the focus from welding and fabrication toward hard goods. The Shaws partnered with Michael Crambes in 2012 and began to expand the business by adding concrete projects, fences, and buildings. More importantly, they were licensed with the Texas Department of Transportation which expanded the company’s industrial gas offerings. Dale and Quinn decided to sell the business in 2013 so Crambes sought out WestAir Gases – another family-owned business – as

a partner to continue the company’s growth. Since that time Ward WestAir has purchased two Fort Worth welding supply stores and opened a new store in Saginaw. In just two years the company has grown six times larger and hired 11 new employees. “Supporting Springtown in events like the Wild West Festival is why we have been blessed with growth. We buy local when we can and try to help out where we can,” said Crambes, general manager of the company. “That is what this town is all about. Our goals and success would not be good enough if they did not include the needs and development of our community.” Ward WestAir offers a full line of products and is a distributor for major welding and industrial product lines including Lincoln, Miller, Victor, Tweco, Norton, and Sait. They also sell an extensive line of safety products such as gloves, head gear, helmets, eye and face protection, burn resistant clothing, and hoods from brands such as Revco, Jackson, Tillman, and

Save Phace. In addition, Ward WestAir is a full-service medical gas provider and specializes in servicing dentists, doctors, veterinarians, and surgery centers. “We offer a wide range of guaranteed-pure gases and equipment to ensure the safe and efficient handling of all gases,” said Crambes. “Our pure medical gases, classified by the Food and Drug Administration as drugs, are produced in accordance with the current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).” No matter the production environment, Ward WestAir can provide a complete line of welding and industrial gases to meet your contained-gas needs. Ward WestAir employees take pride in treating each customer like a guest in their home. WestAir’s mission statement is “large enough to serve but still small enough to care.” With the resources of WestAir, the business continues to flourish and expand new offerings to the community it serves. Crambes went on to say, “We never stop listening to the needs of the

At Ward WestAir on the Springtown Square, (l-r) Philip Self, branch manager; Rudy De La Fuente, account manager; Michael Lemmons, production lead; and Michael Crambes, general manager, can take care of all your contained-gas needs. And they’ll treat you like a guest in their home while doing so.

Brookshire’s: Groceries with friendly service EVENT and an engaging atmosphere SPONSOR by Natalie GeNtry Brookshire’s employees are excited about the upcoming Wild West Festival benefiting the Springtown Area Chamber of Commerce. “Like always, we will have a drink station at the festival,” store manager Mark Baumann said. But Wild West isn’t the only thing Brookshire’s supports in the Springtown community throughout the year. There’s Spirit of Christmas; Relay For Life; numerous food drives for Neighbor To Neighbors; and countless donations of gift cards, food items, and drinks to Springtown ISD schools and events. The Brookshire’s experience The Brookshire’s chain has put in place several programs to help shoppers save during their grocery experience. The cornerstone plan is the YourPoints program. Customers simply need to register their free Thank You Card, and they will begin earning one YourPoint per dollar on most purchases at participating Brookshire’s Food Stores. Good food, good people at Taco Casa For family owned Taco Casa, having a location in Springtown revolves around family and community. Owner Tom Loughrey said, “We think of our customers as a big family. We have so many who have been so loyal from day one.” Historically, the Taco Casa chain is 43 years old; the Springtown Taco Casa has been here 14 years now, and Loughrey has owned it for 13 of those. Loughrey said getting involved in the community is essential for the restaurant. “Our focus is to support the community,” he said. “We’re very active in the schools and churches, and there are a lot of non-profits we help.” That’s why you’ll see Taco Casa involved in the 31st Annual Wild West Festival again this year – they think of the community as family. Taco Casa remains committed to serving the people of Springtown, where they enjoy such a loyal following. Even local Taco Casa employees tend to stick around, Loughrey said. “There are some employees that have been with us for 13 years,” he said. “To me, it’s about

the community as a whole, but our employees become like family, also.” For years, locals of all ages have poured into the restaurant at 101 Highway 199 West, Suite A – at the intersection of the Jacksboro Highway and Main Street. Springtown folks know that their Taco Casa lives by the company motto of “Real Fresh...Real Food...Real Good...” They are present throughout the town – every visitor to Porcupine Stadium sees the company’s brilliant sign displayed, and many a sportswriter and stadium worker has enjoyed food delivered to the press box on fall Friday nights. Choosing a menu favorite at Taco Casa is not easy. Aside from the generous filling in every regular taco – crunchy or soft – there’s a “Super Taco” as well as a “Taco Lite,” and “Taco Casa Delights,” a crispy cinnamon treat for dessert. Not to mention huge burritos, a salad, tostados, nachos and chiladas. Especially popular are the famous chiliburgers and the gottahave-it, fresh brewed tea. If you’re looking for good food served by good people – just like family – look no further than Taco Casa.

EVENT SPONSOR Whether the weather is 100 or 20 degrees outside, Springtown’s J&E Air Conditioning can make sure you are comfortable inside. So if you need to get your home ready for seasonal onslaughts, call J&E Air Conditioning at 817-220-4506 or stop by 1825 West Highway 199.

Stagecoach symbolizes civilization in Wild West

The Wells Fargo stagecoach is scheduled to make its annual appearance in the Wild West Festival’s annual parade Saturday, Sept. 19. Missy Grubis, Springtown branch manager, said she receives requests every summer inquiring if the stagecoach will ride again. Luckily, the answer has been pretty consistent. Grubis said she usually schedules the iconic artifact of bygone days in December each year for the following September. While the 31st annual festival is all about fun, it undeniably also celebrates the more colorful facets of Springtown’s history including pioneers, bank robbers, cowboys, and gunfights. The stagecoach was an integral to civilizing the wild western frontier – a symbol of getting money, mail, and passengers across the continent – and the Springtown Wells Fargo branch arranges for it to be in the parade each year. This year is no different; the Wells Fargo EVENT stagecoach will once feature in the SPONSOR again Wild West Festival parade, which begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. The parade route will circle much of the commercial section of the town; beginning at Brookshire’s parking lot on State Highway 199. It will roll west on the highway to the intersection with FM 51 where it will head north, past Tabernacle Square, turn right again on Second Street, and travel east to Springtown Elementary. The Springtown branch of Wells Fargo is located at 201 South Main Street, on the southwest corner of Tabernacle Square. At Pinnacle Bank, community really does matter We are all connected by the people we know, the places we’re from, and the things we hold dear. The staff at Pinnacle Bank Springtown knows that not only in banking but also in life, community matters. This is why Pinnacle Bank is a $1,000 Platinum sponsor for the Wild West Festival – an indication of its strong support for all things Springtown. Janelle Summers, vice president, along with Paige Pearson, branch manager, talked about spending a few hours in September, along with the bank staff and their families, driving folks around in golf carts to and from the event. They all look forward to it. “It’s fun,” Summers said. “It’s just part of living in a small town. You usually know where to go to get things done. It’s all about people helping each other.” “It’s all about giving something back to the community,” Pearson – who was recently promoted after 15 years with the bank – added. “I’ve been

chauffeuring people around the Wild West Festival for eight years now, and love to see all the families who come out and enjoy the day. It’s always such a pleasure getting to talk with everyone.” The bank’s support of Wild West has a lot to do with its focus on community banking – a concept fostered by the home office in Nebraska several decades ago. Pinnacle Bancorp was founded by a Nebraska banki n g family i n 1938. EVENT That same SPONSOR fami l y r u n s t h e organization now. Pinnacle Bancorp bought Springtown’s First Bank and several other area branches in 2008. “I think it helps that Pinnacle Bank is still family owned and operated,” Summers said. With the backing of a large organization, the Springtown bank can provide its customers with all the services they need – from free checking and debit cards to an array of online bank-

ing services. And in an economy struggling to recover from recession, the bank is still handing out loans and helping folks get into new homes – or refinance mortgages. Rates are still at an all-time low. “We have it better in this part of the country than most folks,” Pearson said. “We’ve been blessed.” Both Pearson and Summers say they feel blessed to work with employees who actually care about the community they serve – and are willing to spend an entire Saturday chauffeuring people around in golf carts. “Many of our people grew up in this area went to school here and know the people they serve,” Summers said. “I couldn’t do it without them.” To see how much Pinnacle Bank values community, see the stories at whycommunitymatters.com. A decade of great food at Woody Creek Bar-B-Q For 10 years now, folks from all around have enjoyed the superior offerings of Woody Creek Bar-BQ on the Springtown Square. From its beginnings in the backyard of Jimmy Neeley who cooked in an old bread truck, the popularity of the restaurant has been so great that there’s a location in Fort Worth, too. Here on the Square, Jimmy’s wife Mary and children Jimmy and Jennifer Neeley Smith carry on the tradition of Jimmy, Sr. who

died in 2007. Woody Creek remains involved in the fabric of Springtown, from catering varsity football games to weddings and other events. The restaurant remains popular because of the high quality food. Both Jennifer and Mary said the ribs are exceptionally popular, and so is the famed Double Barrel, a giant baked potato stuffed with chopped barbecue as well as all the usual fixin’s. Another big seller is the Gunslinger – sliced

hot links and sausage and chopped beef all under one giant bun. Customers return again and again to Woody Creek. Jennifer said, “I tell people to just try us once. You can’t please everybody, but I tell them ‘you will be back.’” The portions are impressive and that amplifies the store creed: “If you walk out of here hungry, it’s your fault.” Mary said a big reason for the business’ success is her talented crew. “We have a good staff – the
