Anniversary Season
Give $10 for our 10th Anniversary and help us reach our goal of $10,000! We've challenged ourselves to raise $10,000 in honor of our 10th Anniversary Season. To reach our goal, we're asking everyone we know to contribute $10 and help spread the word! It’s a small way to make a big impact for Azuka and our work. For every $10 increment you contribute, we’ll enter you into a raffle to win a package of tickets to Azuka and other theaters in the Philadelphia area. Give $20 – 2 entries, and so on. We hope you'll take part in our challenge by making your $10 contribution today! Want to see how we’re doing? You’ll notice our logo on our website has been emptied of all its color. The closer we get to our $10,000 goal the more our logo will fill up with color.

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR Of all the extraordinary changes the world has gone through in the last fifty years, I think the rise in the use of computers and the accompanying growth of the Internet has been the most spectacular. I distinctly remember establishing my first e-mail account wondering why I was doing it as I was sure I wouldn’t use it that much. Now I have four accounts which I obsessively check on my PHONE every few minutes. As people have become more connected on-line it seems to me they have become more isolated sitting in front of their laptops. One of the avenues created to bridge this gap is on-line chat rooms and of course internet dating sites. A recent survey states that 26% of all internet users have visited a personals web site. That’s 39 MILLION people! I find that number staggering. That’s a lot of people looking for love, friendship, sex… SOME kind of connection they’re not getting in their lives. Another aspect of this new way of meeting people is how open we as a society have become about it. There was a time when placing a personal ad in a newspaper’s “lonely hearts” column would have been seen as an admission of desperation if not defeat. Now there are dozens of web sites loaded with pictures, likes, dislikes - even sexual preferences - all in an effort to find “the one”. I personally know a half a dozen very happy couples who have met that way. As someone who has dipped his toe in this particular pool (which I guess I can safely admit) I know from experience some of what Elliot and Susan, our protagonists in Nerve, are feeling as they embark on this first date. As I see it, first dates are all about hope: whether just hoping for a fun evening, hoping to get “lucky” or hoping you’ve found your life mate, the encounter is always heavily weighted with expectations. That can be a lot of pressure to place on one little date. Azuka is committing to giving voice to the people whose stories go unheard. Well, logging on to Match.com, E-harmony or Yahoo! personals you’ll get a part of those unheard stories; lots of walks on the beach, cuddling on the sofa and being as happy staying in as going out. Hopefully, Nerve can provide you with the rest of those stories; what happens when those profiles actually come face to face. Here’s wishing those 39 million people Good Luck!
