“When I can’t fit a facial into my schedule, June Jacobs Enzyme Masks come to the rescue! They provide great exfoliation, restore my glow and smell so delicious...they are a treat for the senses! Both masks digest dead skin cells, stimulate cellular turnover and improve skin’s tone and texture. Sensitive skins should stick to the Papaya formula.”

“The Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Roller is soothing, hydrating and provides a brightening effect for tired eyes. The roller ball application is super fast and the formula provides your morning eye treatment and light concealer in one step.”

Each compact comes with two complimentary colors for extra versatility. Just a few dabs with your finger imparts natural looking color in a flash.”

“Beauty balms are a staple in Asia, but they’re just making their big break into the United States. These powerful formulas are part tinted moisturizer, part sun protection, and part soothing antioxidant treatment which means less steps in your morning skin care regime! I’m obsessed with Stila’s Stay All Day 10-in-1 Beauty Balm.”

These cleansing wipes remove makeup and grime in seconds flat and the lemon peel helps to brighten skin. The towelettes are biodegradable and the formula is 99% natural, making them an easy eco option.”

“Josie Maran Argan Oil is one of my favorite multitasking products. I slather this oil on my cuticles, face, body as well as the tips of my hair for an amazing boost of moisture. Plus, it’s organic so I can also use it on my little boy to keep his skin baby soft!”

“It’s hard to find time for a manicure when you’re a busy mom and with all the sippy cup washing, your polish doesn’t stand a chance. I like the Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips for the messfree application with zero drying time and their long wear. Plus, these strips are an easy way to get in on the nail art trend!”

“While cuddling with my baby, which I do as much as possible, I don’t like to bombard him with harsh scents. SMITTEN with SAVVY AUNTIE Founder Melanie Notkin took her auntie status to the next level, established an Auntourage, and coined a few words in the process.

Notkin launched SavvyAuntie.com in July 2008 for the nearly 50 percent of women without children.

nationally-recognized holiday that first began in 2009. On a beautiful summer day in July 2008, Melanie Notkin launched SavvyAuntie. com to fulfill a personal need and to honor, celebrate, and support the nearly 50 percent of American women who are not mothers, but love the children in their lives. Until then, there were no resoures available for the market of fabulous, cosmopolitan women who seemed to have been overlooked.

o you remember how you spent last July 26? If you haven’t already been introduced to the Savvy Auntie movement started by Auntie Extraordinaire Melanie Notkin, you wouldn’t have known that July 26th is Auntie’s Day-- a now

“A Savvy Auntie,” Notkin states. “Is a woman who loves a child that’s not her own.” According to the original Savvy Auntie, a Savvy Auntie has a busy life of her own, and her nieces, nephews, and godchildren are hardly the only things she’s passionate about. “Perhaps she’s getting her graduate degree or about to make partner at her firm. She might be a charitable humanitarian, an actress, an author, or an Auntrepreneur. She’s a good friend, a great

date, a fantastic spouse. She’s straight or she’s gay. And chances are, she’s childless—whether by choice or by circumstance—which means she’s one of the nearly 50 percent of American women who are not mothers.” Auntrepreneur is just one of the many terms Notkin has coined in her creation of the Auntourage. Some others include Aunties by Relation, Aunties by Choice, LesbiAunts, ParAunts, and the trademarked PANK®. “PANK stands for Professional Aunt No Kids,” says Notkin. “It’s very important to note that Savvy Auntie is not about choosing aunthood over motherhood. In fact many PANK’s, like myself, would love to be mothers too one day.” To Notkin, aunthood is a gift, something from which both parents and children alike can benefit. Oftentimes while both parents are working, they learn to appreciate the “QualAuntie” time their children’s auntie offers so that they might complete other household chores or for new parents, Notkin points out, catch a long nap. “Savvy Aunties are a gift to the children because no child can suffer from too much love and positive influence in their lives.” Notkin acknowledges the greatest aspect of being an auntie is the ever-evolving love for her nieces and nephew. “I fondly remember the moment when my nephew, at around age two, turned to me and said, “Auntie Melanie! We’re family!” That revelation was, for both of us, the beginning of an eternal understanding that my love for him would never end.” The Auntourage founder also lists inspiring and teaching the children as one of the great gifts of auntiehood. “As we bake cookies, they are learning math and science. As we build railroad tracks, they are improving their motor dexterity and their comprehension of spatial relations. And when we read to them, and simply speak with them, we are improving their language skills. It’s

DebutAunt is one of the founder’s favorites as it acknowledges first-time aunthood as a true milestone. She names her second as the Auntourage: a group of friends, also aunties, who are there to support and celebrate each other’s Savvy Auntie lifestyle. The Auntourage emcompasses everyone involved in the Savvy Auntie movement, she notes. Savvy Auntie is a blossoming company that’s only just begun to inspire and celebrate the aunties of the world. “I like to think I’m the life of this party,” says Notkin “It’s nowhere near over yet!”

CHOOSE SPRING FOR YOUR STEP by SAMANTHA ETTUS The blur of momming, career, and marriage can make it feel impossible to even notice the changing of the seasons, but this Spring I encourage you to pay attention. Whether your

42

BABYSTYLE MAGAZINE | SPRING 2012

lifestyle allows you to enjoy 20 waking hours a week with your kids, or 100, it is how you spend them that is most important. The new season is an opportunity to infuse your family with a renewed spark. Here are five steps to achieve it:

1.

BE A CELEBRATORY MOM

2.

SEE SLEEP AS YOUR JOB

Being a celebratory mom is mindset driven, not calendar driven, and it doesn’t just happen in December. Make it your very fun job to come up with celebrations throughout the year and start with a Welcome to Spring party. The anticipation is half the fun so get your kids excited by engaging them in the decoration making and start planning your family party with as much zeal as you would have for a party of 50.

I am still struggling with this one myself but I have read enough and lived it enough to know that lack of sleep makes us more irritable, less healthy, less intelligent and heavier. You can’t change your children’s wake up times but you can go to sleep an extra hour earlier than you have been and feel the daily difference.

3.

BRING THE OUTDOORS IN

I grew up in New York City so my husband teases that I am happiest indoors but for the sake of our kids’ physical and mental health, we have fully incorporated outdoor activity into our lives. We recently made an entire day out of a trip to “Tomatomania,” a local tomato festival. We brought home a few plants and replanted them in pots at home to engage our kids in an ongoing nature project.

4.

CLEAN UP YOUR STYLE

5.

NURTURE YOUR MARRIAGE

A bit of simple Spring cleaning will makes you feel more put together fast. Rid your closet of anything you haven’t worn in four years. Tailor those salvageable clothes that don’t fit quite right and buy the trifecta – a great Spring bag, a pair of shoes and an accessory (a scarf or bold necklace) that will take you through the season.

Date nights are even more fun in great weather – taking an evening stroll, dining at an outdoor cafe, or watching a sunset over drinks. With the arrival of Spring, commit to spending one night out each week for just the two of you. When you strengthen your marriage, you strengthen your family so when you are out having fun with your spouse, do it guilt-free. DESIGNING WITH DARCY Celebrations Expert and Editorial Director of Martha Stewart Weddings, Darcy Miller Nussbaum is a mommy of all trades. From designing chic fêtes to drawing and scrapping, this DIY doyenne does it all. Interview by Kaitlyn Kirby

BSM: When did you first know you loved to create, craft, and design? Have you always loved to design things? DM: I do not remember an exact time or place where I started crafting, but I think it stems from my mom. She’s my “calligrapher,” and is the handwriting behind all of my projects, including the do-it-yourself scrapbook I published called “Our Wedding Scrapbook.” She inspired my love for scrapbooking after our first family vacation, took me to buy beads when I wanted to sell my own jewelry, and bought me my first sewing machine for my 10th birthday. I even sewed the dress that I wore to my older sister’s Bat-Mitzvah (with my grandmother’s help). I’ve also always loved to draw, and incorporate my illustrations into invitations, favors, cards and décor for celebrations. I guess you could say that creating has always been a part of me. It’s in my genes. BSM: What is a scrapbox? How did you come up with the idea?

DM: A scrapbox is scrapbook meets shadowbox. I had been making scrapbooks for everything from family trips to special occasions since I was a little girl. Then when I began making scrapbooks for my girls, I realized that there were objects that I wanted to hold onto that wouldn’t fit into a book – like their first pair of ballet slippers or egg carton artwork they made at nursery school – but that I didn’t want to throw away or store in a closet. I liked the idea that these objects and mementos could be used in a decorative way, and they now live in our playroom where we can look at them all the time. BSM: What types of things do you put in your scrapboxes? DM: What I love about scrapboxing is that there are no rules or limitations to what you can include, and you don’t have to be a master artist to make these at home. I like to put special objects in the scrapboxes—like a photo of Pippa (my youngest) on the day she was BABYSTYLEMAG.COM

born along the little stuffed animals her sisters placed in her bassinet at the hospital, or my daughter Ella’s ballet slippers with a photo from her first ballet class. Kids’ artwork also makes a great backdrop. When my oldest daughter Daisy was younger, she liked to paint at an easel, and I have a scrapbox with that old watercolor paint strip, backed with one of her paintings, and a photo of her painting it. For me, it’s all about documenting both the important moments and the every day. For a look at some of the scrapboxes I’ve created over the years, click here.

BSM: Do your children like to create and craft also? What are their favorite things to create? DM: Yes, my girls love to create and craft. It’s a part of our every day at home. Our next door neighbors are always seeing the revolving art gallery on our front door. I have a special scrapbook of drawings that I keep for each daughter. It uses easy pages where you just slip in the art. We also like to create for holidays and celebrations, and have fun coming up with ideas for their birthday parties and making the invitations together.

DM: I think any working mom would tell you the key word is “juggling.” It’s not always easy, but I do my best. I try to be present in where I am at the moment—so when I’m at work, I’m focused there, and when I’m at home, I’m focused on my family (although my kids probably would tell you I look at my blackberry too often). It’s also im-

BABYSTYLE tastemaker portant to love what you do, because then you don’t think of it as work. I’m so lucky because I can sometimes include my kids in what I do. In addition to being Editorial Director of Martha Stewart Weddings, I’m also a Celebrations Expert at the company and I have done everything from Daisy’s first birthday party in Martha Stewart Living magazine to Ella’s pajama party on The Martha Stewart Show. It helps that I have super supportive husband who is very hands-on.

BSM: How do you balance being Editorial Director of Martha Stewart Weddings with being a busy mom of 3? Do you have any tips or advice of managing the day-to-day and being a parent?

BABYSTYLEMAG.COM

BABYSTYLE tastemaker BSM: We know you’re a hands-on mom. What’s your favorite thing to create with your children? DM: That’s hard to answer because there is a lot we like to create together. We like to celebrate holidays and special occasions by decorating the apartment, whether it’s stretching the “cob webs” for Halloween, lining chocolate turkeys down the table for Thanksgiving, or making birthday cards for friends and family. This year on my birthday, the girls woke up early and decorated the kitchen table with confetti, signs, streamers and a homemade cake. They woke my poor husband up at the crack of dawn to get decorating!

behind my work in the people I’m creating for. Whether it’s a birthday card or a drawing that is transferred to icing for the top of a cookie I want it to feel personal. BSM: What are your top three favorite places to go with children in the city?

BSM: How would you describe your personal style? Your children’s? How does that factor into the pieces you create? DM: I like to think of my personal style as fun and whimsical. My kids have a spirit to them, and I think their style is definitely an influence on me! Color really inspires me, and I often create a palette to work with, but the real inspiration

DM: My favorite place to be with my kids is HOME! But after that, some of our other favorite spots are ones that center around learning and creativity, like Make Meaning, Scribble Press, Pins & Needles, and The Craft Studio. The girls also love to go to Michaels, where we buy our supplies for crafts projects and celebrations. The Museum of Natural History is one of our favorite museums. We recently spent the night at the museum with the Girl Scouts and it was so much fun. The girls also love going to Dylan’s Candy Bar, because what kid doesn’t love candy, and riding the Carousel in Central Park!

OF STAR ’S O BRAV NT NA PREG ELS IN HE

B.S. What have you learned since becoming mom? R.P. I think I was always searching for amazing and now I'm a mom I wake up to amazing everyday. I had no idea life could be this full of love. B.S. What do you love most about being a mom? R.P. Learning about the world all over again through children's eyes and teaching my children about everything they are interested in. B.S. What makes your heart melt? R.P. When I come home from work and my 3 year old says with a massive smile "Mommy I've wanted you all day. I'm so glad you're here." I think my 11 month old is saying the same thing when he takes out his pacifier and tries to stuff it in my mouth -adorable. B.S. How would you describe your own personal style? R.P. Classic and Chic yet comfortable (except for my heels...somehow I don't need comfort as long as they look good).

“I had no idea life could be this full of love.” B.S. How would you describe your children and their style? R.P. My 3 year old is all about comfort and color so he often looks very preppy with some classic ADIDAS sneakers. He's just starting to complain about the side part I always give him! My 11 month old has the craziest natural mohawk so I get great joy in making it stand on end so he tends to look a little more punk rock but I'm sure this is only a phase....after all, he can't say no yet!

B.S. Where are your favorite places to shop for your children? R.P. CrewCuts, Rachel Riley, Jacardi, Children's Place, Baby Gap and I love children's boutiques down south for their overalls. I'm also a sucker for monograms and The Bailey Boys do some great ones. B.S. If you could be any classic TV mother, who would you be? R.P. Clar Huxtabel from “The Cosby Show.” She had it all: family, work, humor and elegance. I remember watching their family from England thinking that she always had it all figured out! B.S. What's one item in your handbag that tells people you're a mom? R.P. Half eaten snacks!

GIRL BEHIND THE GLAM We caught up with Emily Wheat Maynard, mother of two, owner and designer of the chic handmade jewelry company, Elva Fields. Interview by Kaitlyn Kirby

BSM: When and why did you start Elva Fields? EWM: I founded the business in October of 2003 after designing necklaces and earrings for friends and family for our fall wedding. I had just finished graduate school, moved from Manhattan to Louisville, Kentucky, married, and realized it was the perfect time to start something great with my new life. Though I wouldn’t jump in with running the business full-time (officially, anyway) for another few years, I knew it was the perfect fit for me, combining my love of creating with my love of history, with a healthy dose of entrepreneurial spirit.

BSM: What inspires you to create new pieces? Where do you find your inspiration? EWM: If I hit a dry spell and feel completely drained of all creative inspiration, there are two things I can count on to bring me back to life: a long walk down our country road or a trip to the antique mall. Neither has failed me yet. BSM: Have you always loved creating jewelry? Do your children like creating jewelry?

EWM: I have always loved creating...and jewelry was just one of the many things I crafted, colored, or constructed growing up. My mother is an artBSM: How would you describe the styles of jew- ist, so artistic pursuits came very naturally (and often) in our house. I’ve definitely continued the elry Elva Fields offers? tradition with our daughters--we work on an “art EWM: Elva is entirely one of a kind--colorful project” several times a week. And if our older daughter’s first word is any indication, she’ll be and bold necklaces, each with a unique vintage making jewelry in no time. (Among the first was feature. June jewels are limited-editions, mostly “bead.”) earrings made of vintage beads or colorful gemstones. Our Deb line is a twist on eco-friendly, BSM: How do you balance running a business using only repurposed vintage materials from chain to clasp. with being a mom? BABYSTYLEMAG.COM

BABYSTYLE designers EWM: It’s a daily (sometimes hourly!) effort. Truthfully, I’m not sure I’ve found a balance. Some days are better than others. It takes a village, and I fortunately have lots of help between an incredibly supportive husband, an endlessly thoughtful mother, fantastic sitters, and friends and family in-between who are willing to step in and offer a helping hand. It is a constant juggling act. BSM: What are the advantages of running your own business and being a mom?

EMILY’S MOMMY MUST-DO’S No. 1

Try to stop for a second or two and just soak it up. Really look at your children. As exhausted or frustrated as you might be, it is an

honor and privilege to be part of a child’s life no matter what. For that quick moment, memorizing their faces, be thankful for the good, bad, or ugly of it all. Then get back to work.

No. 2

Keep a journal--even a simple one. I jot a few thoughts each night in my Mom's One Line A Day journal of funny things the girls said or did, something that made me smile, even a milestone of their growing up.

No. 3

Take a shower every day. People laugh at this, but a shower makes you feel like a whole new woman... even if it makes you a few minutes late.

72

BABYSTYLE MAGAZINE | SPRING 2012

EWM: I love that I’m able to schedule my day to allow for time with our daughters--they’re so young (just 3 and 1), and I know I won’t get this time back, so it’s pretty fantastic to be able to spend weekday mornings with them. I hope I’ll always be able to work around what is most important to us. BSM: Moms don’t often have a lot of time for style. What time-saving or quick tips do you have for looking great or dressing up an outfit on little time? EWM: I’d love to think that adding an Elva necklace to whatever you’re wearing instantly adds polish and style. It’s obviously my go-to, easy, no-fail option, and I swear it works like a charm. After that, a great pair of colorful ballet flats make you feel more pulled together right away without sacrificing comfort. For more chic and creative Elva Fields pieces, visit www.elvafields.com or check out the Elva Fields collaboration at C. Wonder store on cwonder.com.

GREAT BLOWOUTS. BAR NONE. LA hair hotspot Drybar is popping up all over the country. We spoke to founder Alli Webb on the latest craze in the beauty industry and why so many are flocking to the sunny chic salons.

BABYSTYLEMAG.COM

MEET ALLI BSM: Why did you start Drybar?

BSM: What makes Drybar so special?

AW: It was truly out of personal necessity. Even as a professional stylist, I’ve been hooked on having my hair blown out by someone else. However, for years I struggled with two bad options: overpaying at my salon or enduring a yucky discount chain. I always longed for a fun, beautiful, hip place I could go to for a great and affordable blowout. It didn’t exist, so I created it!

AW: Drybar is the perfect escape for women. We will make you feel completely taken care of -- having you looking like a million bucks. Not only is it extremely relaxing to get your hair blown out, it’s fun! At Drybar you sit at a bar, watch a chick flick (like Sex in The City or Breakfast at Tiffany’s), charge your iPhone or just chat with your girl-

friends. It’s a perfect escape for all women, especially busy moms who need a break and little (well, big!) pick me up. BSM: How do you balance work with motherhood? AW: I don’t! Just kidding. It’s definitely a challenge I constantly struggle with. I adore my boys - they are beyond amazing! But I also love my professional life. I kinda feel guilty at home

and at work. Overall, I feel ridiculously lucky to have two healthy, happy little boys, a thriving business and the best husband a girl could have! BSM: Have your sons been to Drybar? AW: Oh yes, they love going to “Mommy’s Drybar.” They always want me to wash their hair. They have kinda long hair that I am completely in love with. BSM: What advice do you have for working moms?

just grab one inch sections all over your head, curl, tossle and go! Use a light serum on the ends for some shine and texture. BSM: How would you describe your personal style? AW: My style varies. Most of the time, you will find me in jeans and fun shirt. I’m a pretty laid back California girl, but I do love a great pair of heels a flirty dress. And I have a major bag obsession.

BSM: There’s been a tremendous demand for Drybar! What’s up next for Drybar in 2012? AW: It’s gonna be a busy year. Next up is Manhattan beach! We are working on more locations in New York, California, DC, Atlanta and Arizona. I’m always tweeting about what’s happening, so follow us for the latest DB news!

AW: I believe I’m a better mom because I’m a happy mom. I really try to disconnect when I get home-- put the iPhone away and spend real quality time with my family. Then, after the kids go to bed, I’m back on the iPhone. BSM: Moms don’t often have alot of time to style their hair. What timesaving tips do you have for looking great on little time? AW: Take 5 min to blowout the front of your hair and use a large (1 1/2 inch) curling iron to curl big sections of your hair. It doesn’t have to be in neat clean sections--

Alli started Drybar in February 2010 in Los Angeles. The company now has 14 locations. BABYSTYLEMAG.COM

he daughter and granddaughter of army officers, Patricia Calfee was raised in a family where work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit is highly-valued. Calfee, along with her husband and business partner, Ian Pinache, recognized the need for high-quality comfortable shoes for moms and thus created Roses & Rye. The new mother of baby Crockett shares her inspiration for the innovative shoe company and the entrepreneurial force behind her mompreneur success. What is Roses & Rye? When and why did you decide to start the company?

PC: Roses & Rye designs beautiful, mom-friendly shoes that are available online. Like many women, I love beautiful shoes but becoming a mother changed my daily life – in a wonderful way! I now need cute shoes with arch support that I can wear while juggling motherhood and my professional life. er compromise on style. My life as a working Mom is incredibly busy and though I love high heels, reality means that I wear flats most of the time and I want them to be cute. Creating beautiful shoes that fit the busy lives of Moms is what we do. What do you love most about owning your own company? What do you feel is the greatest part of being an entrepreneur/

working mom? PC: As a Mom, owning a business is both a blessing and a challenge. I love the flexibility that it provides (I work from home when necessary), but it’s hard to find time away from work. I worked the morning my son was born and I attended a team meeting a week later. Of course, my baby boy joined us!

Roses & Rye has a very style-conscious collection of footwear. How would you describe your own personal style? PC: I love clean, pretty lines, and bright colors make me happy. I passionately believe that beautiful shoes should also be good for my feet. I refuse to let anyone stereotype Moms as frumpy. I love finding ways to be stylish and fun while being practical because you can’t play with kids in heels! Your business partner is your husband, Ian. What’s the greatest part about working with your spouse? How do you complement each other in the business sphere? PC: I love working with my husband and Roses & Rye is our second business together. Our professional partnership works because we bring very different skills while sharing a clear vision. I believe that everyone needs a great partner and working with Ian makes me happy. Has your entrepreneurial drive/work ethic changed since becoming a mom? If so, how? PC: I’m the daughter and granddaughter of Army officers and was raised in a family where work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit is highly valued. It’s important that our son understands the importance of work and sees that mission and purpose matter.

Before launching Roses & Rye, we created a list of lessons that we learned from our previous business together. The change that had the biggest impact was our “Eight O’ Clock Rule.” We never talk about the business before eight o’clock in the morning and it has made a big difference in the start of our day together.

If you could give one piece of advice to your newborn son, what would it be? Why? PC: Try. Fail. Repeat. Because real success is hard work. I love the Chinese proverb: Fall down seven times, get up eight. What’s up next for Roses & Rye in 2012? PC: We were excited to have retail legend (and Mom!) Beverly Stern join Roses & Rye in 2012. As the former General Merchandising Manager for GAP, Banana Republic and WilliamsSonoma, she’s a wonderful addition who understands busy Moms. We’re looking forward to growing our business and offering stylish Moms more options for cute shoes that feel great.

SABINA & VALERIE OF

BLANQI GIRLS O

ne day on the playground, two twenty-something moms, Sabina Melarti and Valerie Darragh, realized they shared the same fabulous idea. Melarti and Darragh had been combining and altering existing garments in order to create a new product that fulfilled their needs for both fashion and function. The product? Alluring, feminine, audacious, and stylish shaping pregnancy support garments. The concept was exciting and the product entirely new and innovative. While neither Melarti nor Darragh had any type of business background or training, they had what it took to be successful. The chic duo used their passion, insight, persistence, creativity, and most of all, drive and got to work building their business.

T

he company is BLANQI. The two built the company from the ground up, researching day and night, educating themselves on everything from manufacturing to writing patents. With the support from their advisory board, and the loving patience of their family, they set out to help the BLANQI girl remain as glamorous and fashionable as ever throughout pregnancy and beyond.

VS: LadyAndTheBlog.com focuses on fashion trends, intensive coverage of New York Fashion Week, beauty product reviews, step-by-step recipe breakdowns, travel tips and my personal blog. VS: I’m really big on classic colors. Very rarely will you find me in an outrageous pattern or shade. I like to stay in the neutrals because I know I can get the most usage out of the pieces. I layer to conceal my trouble areas and because I am typically always cold. I love heels and wear them as often as possible. My daughter refuses to wear pants. She wears dresses every single day to school. I’m talking tights and party shoes! Natalie says school days are “fancy days.” My son is into Mario Bros. and Transformers. He loves shirts with characters on it. When my husband gets a hold of him though, he becomes

a Vineyard Vines model. BSM: How have you learned to balance working with motherhood? VS: I cheat. It’s funny, but it’s true. My husband and I both stay home and run I’m Not Obsessed Media together. So, when I’m working - he isn’t! Our children are ALWAYS with one of their parents. So, I don’t really feel any mom guilt about spending time building out my brand because my children are with their father! BSM: What turned you onto blogging? Why is this such a great opportunity for moms? VS: When I became a stay-at-home mom in 2005, I found myself wanting a hobby. I actually started I’m Not Obsessed as a joke! But over the years, it has turned into a full-time career, a property that employs 5 writers and generates over 4.5 million impressions a month. I encourage all my friends to start blogging because it is such a wonderful outlet. You don’t have to blog for money. Blog because you want your parents to keep up with your day-to-day life. Blog because you love photography. Blog to share your favorite recipes with friends. I can’t imagine my life without this extension. It’s the new age diary.

BSM: What’s up next for you in 2012? VS: I’m working with Clorox for the next few months, more details to come. I’m doing a TON of traveling and my children are coming with me to Europe in a few weeks. My partner Audrey McClelland and I have recently relaunched Deal Obsessed. We are hoping to get that off the ground and running full speed ahead. Next month, I’ll be in Oprah Magazine with Audrey for another P&G advertorial. Really excited about that.We are also hoping to do a LOT more Twitter parties as that is something we really enjoy.

BSM: What is your life motto? VS: My life motto is “Enjoy it to the fullest.” Have as many unique experiences as possible. Travel and travel often. Travel with your children. Capture it all. Never forget. We have one go around and we better make it worth it. BABYSTYLEMAG.COM
