How To Choose Between Top Golfing Accessories
W
hen you are faced with may different golfing accessories, it can be easy to lose sight of your goals and simply become overwhelmed by all of the different options. If you want to spend your money well and get golf accessories that will come in handy, you should follow some guidelines that I will lay out for you here. It will help you to step back and look objectively at what your ultimate goal is. Hopefully, as a result of your careful research you will save some money and end up making the best choice when it comes to choosing the accessories that are best for you. First you need to assess how useful the item can be. Will it actually make your game of golf more enjoyable, or is it more of a novelty that will soon wear off? If you aren’t buying an item for its utility, you will have to seriously think about why else you could want it. Are you hoping to impress your golfing buddies, or do you just feel the obsessive need to spend money on golf and its many accessories? Items like golf club bags will always be useful since they help to keep your other big investments save and organized for you. However, the same can’t be said for other golf accessories. Some are just a waste of money that reel you in because of how neat they are. One day when you go to the golf course, imagine that you have the accessory with you. Every time you would use it throughout the day, make
a mark on a piece of paper. You may be surprised to find that there are absolutely no marks at the end of the day. However, if there are a few marks and you honestly believe that you would be better off with the accessory, then you should start comparing brands and features. Price is an important factor to consider. Personally, it helps me make a choice when I can find the cheapest option for the particular accessory I’m looking at. If you think there is a way that you could get cheaper golf accessories, then you should certainly take advantage of this. You might be able to find the same exact accessory for half as much. If you have golfing buddies who tend to go through accessories at a high turnover rate, you should ask them if they have anything that they would be willing to part with for a fair price. You might luck out and get it for free. Even if you just get it for a discounted rate, it is still better than paying full price. Golf accessories can put a huge hole in your wallet if you re not careful, so it s good to take advantage of these opportunities when they arise. Instead of just going for the most expensive accessory whenever you see something that strikes your interest, you should take a more cool and calculated approach to the purchase. Do everything that I have mentioned so far in order to make sure that you really want and need the item, and then do what you can to get the best deal possible on the golf accessory. You will save plenty of money in the long run for it to be worth the effort.

sunglasses for the greens
S
unglasses are, for most, part of the every day. You wake up, you leave the house and on go the sunglasses. They protect our eyes and keep us from seeing spots when we get caught in the glare of a rear window. But a good pair of shades can be extremely useful when playing golf, too. Here are a few different things to consider when buying a pair of sunglasses, both for on and off the greens. Comfort Comfort is an extremely important factor. If your sunglasses slide down your nose or maybe rest awkwardly against your ears, you can find yourself distracted. Or unable to keep them on your face. When buying a good pair of sunglasses, make sure that you’ve tried them on and that they feel ‘matched’ to your facial structure. It doesn’t do to just let them sit on your face. Move your head around. Look up and down and side to side. If you feel any slippage at all, it could tell you that when you start sweating, you could find your sunglasses being more annoying that useful. Tint and Polarization For golf, you want to be able to measure distances by eye. Dark or ‘smoke’ tint on your sunglasses might not be great. A nice dark amber or brown is probably your best bet. Smoked lenses tend to wash things out a bit and can make everything look like the same color. You may find yourself lifting your glasses up to gauge distances better. A brown lens won’t wash things out nearly as much. No matter the lens color, though, getting
yourself a pair of polarized lenses is important. Polarization reduces glare and cuts the strain on your eyes if you’re looking in the direction of the sun. Weight This might be surprising for many. A pair of sunglasses is always light, right? Wrong. Some pairs have a real weight feel to them. This can cause discomfort around your ears and on the bridge of your nose, especially if there are uncomfortable nose pads on the glasses. The lighter the better. Many high end manufacturers are now producing sunglasses made of plastic that are just as tough as metal and weight half as much. UV Protection Ultra-Violet rays can really cause damage to your peepers. To avoid this find sunglasses that have a decent UV protection number on them. The more you’re outside, the higher your UV protection should be. Don’t skimp on this. UV damage accumulates over time and can cause problems down the road. If you’re playing golf often, do yourself a favor and get something with strong UV protection. Price Pricing is also something you ought to consider when making a purchase. I don’t mind spending $100.00 on a pair of sunglasses. These are things I use daily and they should be worth it. It’s just an extra benefit when I can use it on the golf course or at the driving range. Of course, spending $100.00 on a pair of shades isn’t for everyone. As long as you can find the specifications you need, price doesn’t matter, even if they’re something you find at a convenience store on the way to play.

Your Golf Basic Training Routine
A
proper training program is the most important part of your golf training routine. When training, most folks forget to work on shots close to the green. Extra hours hitting a picturesque drive can be fun, but fixing the kinks in your shots in the sub 100-yard range will cut strokes from you card faster. For a training regiment to be effective, you must keep a regular routine. Golf training time should be shared equally between driving and approaches. An hour pounding drives should at least equal an hour on the putting green. Do not neglect approach shots either, or chip shots and or shots out of the sand. A long, arrow straight drive is a thing of beauty to watch, but an accurate chip shot will save two-puts and win matches. When training, it is best to simulate real world conditions. Sure, you could rake the sand perfectly smooth for each and every practice shot and place ball gently on top, but that will never happen on the course. Toss the ball straight up in the air to simulate the dreaded fried egg flop. Set your practice shots up right against the wall of the sand
trap practice high angle outs, or the smart shot off to the side. Train at rescuing your game from the deep salad. Not making it to the driving range is not a reason to skip training. If you spent an hour at the driving range this morning, then you owe yourself an hour of short game practice. A bucket of balls is the only equipment you need to practice chipping from the unattended edges at the park. Incorporating your putter into your training routine will prove the most important thing you can do. More matches are decided on the green than any other part of the course. Practice the long shots, the short taps and even a few from the fringe while on the putting green. Do not forget that you can practice at home too. You can chip from the garden and weed at the same time! Refrain from mowing the back yard another week and practice some light chip shots. Find a neighbor and take turns hitting practice balls into each other yard to work on blind chip shots. Regular practice is the most important element in your training routine. You will be better off with an hour, three times a day than four hours on a Sunday. Most important, enjoy your time. Golf is no fun if becomes work.

he LPGA, or Ladies Professional Tof women Golf Association, is an organization golfers known for its annual
tours and charity work. In the space of six decades, the association has grown from a handful of players who were determined to establish a professional tour for women into one of the United States’ most powerful and respected sports organizations.

Carner and Betsy King. King won six tournaments in 1989.
TOURNAMENTS & PRIZE MONEY The LPGA has come a long way from holding golf clinics to raise prize money. The first tour visited 14 cities and raised $50,000. Within two years the tour increased to 21 cities and the prize money to $200,000, with Judy Rankin becoming the first LPGA golfer to win $100,000 in a season in 1976. 1980 saw a total of $5 mllion awarded. This jumped to $14 million in 1989, more than $25 million in 1996, and by 2010, the tour covered 29 countries with total prize money in excess of $41 million.
Thirteen women joined together to form the LPGA in 1950. Initially, they traveled from city to city in their family cars with their golf clubs, waving colored paddles out the windows to communicate between cars when one needed to stop for gas or food. The players raised their own prize money by giving golf clinics before the tournaments and set up their own courses. By the 1960s, they graduated to traveling in campers and trailers. They received their first television coverage in 1963. In 1975, the LPGA moved from being player- CHARITABLE WORK run to hiring its own commissioner. building Confidence in Golf
G
olf confidence is learned in many different ways. Golf is a very visual game in more ways than many of us realize. I was reminded of this fact yesterday when I played with a lady who had left her clubs at home in her rush to get to the course. When she arrived, she borrowed a set of clubs and off we went! Later in the day, she pulled out a 5 wood and proceeded to hit one of the sweetest shots possible, landing on a perfectly flat lie (not easy on this course) leaving an exact 150 yards to the middle of the green. Very nice indeed! As the game progressed it became obvious to us all that this 5 wood was quickly becoming a real favorite. She really bonded with this club. By the time we finished the first nine she disappeared into the pro shop and had ordered a 5 wood and a 3 in this particular make. Now here is a good golfer with a nice positive attitude who knows immediately what she wants! I like her style.
I was immediately reminded of the fact that an almost identical thing had happened to me a few months earlier, although sadly I did not take such immediate action. I was playing in the Carolinas and had not taken my clubs and hence borrowed a set, which I immediately bonded with; I have to say that this does not usually happen for me. Upon returning home I just could not hit my own driver and woods as sweetly as I had those other clubs.
I kept looking down at the club as it sat facing the ball and it simply didn’t look good to me; it didn’t look “right”. I knew in my head that it was in my own mind, if you see what I mean. But the fact remains that if your club does not look right to you, your golf confidence doesn’t feel right either! And any golfer knows that confidence is KING. Without confidence that ball zips off cross country as it takes on a mind of its own and visits trees, bunkers, lakes and goodness only knows what else. Those golf balls do what they are told and if you do not apply a firm and focused mind set they will undoubtedly reflect this omission. I am a self confessed golf addict as are the gals I was playing with. A great conversation ensued about the look of a club and how it affected each of us. We progressed to discussing swings and swing thoughts and swing styles. We all agreed that everyone has to find their own perfect swing. There is no perfect swing for all and everyone. Between the three of us, one has a baseball swing with a start and a finish added later, one has a “too-wide” stance and “tooflat” swing plane (me), and the other has what one would probably say is the more accepted norm. But they all work...for the person who uses them. They wouldn’t necessarily work for someone else, but that doesn’t matter; so long as your swing works for you, that’s all that is important. And your swing will work for you when you have golf confidence. In golf, confidence is KING.

getting started with sports
o you’ve been avoiding yourself in the mirror lately, and you S want to get started on some kind of exercise program. The problem is you’re not sure what. You could join a gym membership, and crowd in there like everybody else after work, and trudge away on the treadmill. That would definitely give you the exercise that you need. Recently, however, more and more people are starting to realize that by participating in competitive sports, you get incredible benefits far and above what you would get from joining a gym. If you’d like to get involved in sports but aren’t sure how, then this article is for you.
If you are absolutely clueless on how to start, don’t worry. Everybody starts off that way. One way to begin is to head down to your local library, and head on over to the sporting section. Pick up a few “how to” books on various sports, and thumb through them and see if they seem interesting. If you can imagine yourself playing that particular sport, and find it enjoyable, then it will likely be so when you play for real. Don’t limit yourself to only one, make sure to note all the different sports you think you’ll enjoy. Another idea is to head on down to your local sporting goods store. Just wander around and look at what’s available as far as sports
equipment. Pick up a few and try them out, and see how they feel. This can be a good way to do a ‘gut check’ to see if a particular sport is right for you. An advantage of going to a sporting goods store it that you can ask questions of whatever sport you may be interested in. Another great source of inspiration is your local community college. These always have beginners course in many sports. They are good for many reasons. One is that they are relatively cheap, and meet once a week or so. Another is that you’ll find many other people that are in the same boat as you, and are just starting out. You might even find plenty of people to play your new sport with, giving you all kinds of extra opportunities. Another option you may have is to check with your company. If you work for a fairly large company, there’s a good chance they’ll have sports organizations within the company for team sports like softball, volleyball and others. This can be a great way to get to know your coworkers as well. And if you participate through work, there’s a good chance that it can be subsidized in some way. Naturally, these ideas are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to finding the right sport for you. Once you start exploring your options, you’ll realize you have more choices than you are aware of. And before you know it, you’ll be playing your favorite sport on a regular basis.

f there were sticks and objects that could be hurtled along, then there was ‘golf.’ No one knows for certain who started golf. But everybody knows who plays it now - everyone does. The origin of the name ‘golf’ is believed to be the Dutch word of ‘colf,’ which means ‘club.’ In the medieval ages, golf was also known as “spel metten colve,’ which literally meant ‘game with clubs.’ Nearly every area around the world has some claim to the origination of golf. Scotland, of course, has its claim. But so do China, Rome, England, France, Holland, Belgium, even Laos. Every country has a game consisting of sticks and balls, and every country is correct in its assumption that it invented the game. But there is no one country where ‘golf’ actually began. Still, Scotland is widely considered to be birthplace of golf. And it began haphazardly, a way of hitting a pebble or other roundish object into a hole by means of a stick or club. Edinburgh, Scotland, claimed the first golfing society. The Gentlemen Golfers - later known as the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers and today in residence at Muirfield - claim their club was already under way in 1744.
The first inter-Scotland club matches were played in 1857. The world would wait until 1860 for the first British Open to be played. The British Open was being played 35 years before the U.S. Open. It has been called “The World Open.” Players from around the globe participate, as they have for a century or more. The British Open is all-inclusive. The U.S. Open has been moving in that direction for the last decade. But the British Open has been accepting a cast from around the world since the turn of the century. It is not known for certain when golf came to America - only that when it got a toehold in the 20th century, America became the world leader in great players. By 1900, the explosion of the game in America was complete. Proof was that, at the turn of the century, there were more golf clubs in the United States than there were in Britain. Tiger Woods came upon the scene in 1996. He won eight times in 1999, nine times in 2000, and won the four major championships in succession in 20002001, starting with the U.S. Open in 2000. Should his career be as successful in his 30s and 40s as it has been in his 20s, he will assume the mantle of “best player ever.” Women have played a very large part in the history of golf, even before the last half of the 20th century when they finally achieved equality with men. Records of ladies playing golf exist all the way back to the time of Mary Queen of Scots.

The Most Recommended
Golf Training Aids
G
olf: the sport where a person just hits the ball with the golf club with all of his might. This may look and even sound easy but a person should never be fooled. It is, in fact, quite difficult to hit the ball and control it at the same time. For a person to improve his or her golfing, golf instructors recommend the good oldfashioned tip: hit as many golf balls as a person can hit until it becomes part of muscle memory. Though this may sound effective (practice does make things perfect), there is an easier and much more efficient way to improve one’s golf skills. This is through golf aids. The golf training aids are set of equipment that would help improve the person’s techniques by giving
feedbacks and play statistics, by correcting a person’s stance or drive, by improving strength, etc. To learn more, here is a few of the most recommended golf training aids. 1. Orange Whip & Orange Peel Many instructors, professionals and beginners have claimed these as their favorite golf training aids. The Orange Whip is one of the most recommended golf training aids for your swing. It can be used indoors since it needs just a minimal amount of space. It is one of the best golf training aids as it lets you practice and improve your swing without actually hitting golf balls. It also works on the flexibility, strength, coordination and tempo of your drives. The Orange Peel is the partner of

the Whip. It is intended to improve the swings by switching static and dynamic balance stance. 2. Putter Wheel This golf training aid is a cut-away ball that looks like a car tire. It helps you improve your strike using a putter, as this ball would not roll straight unless it is hit with a perfect strike. It is calculated to train the eyes to properly line up the ball to the hole. It is the most recommended for golf players who have trouble in controlling their swings in the green. 3. Medicus The Medicus (or the Medicus Dual-Hinge Driver) is said to be one of the most creative training aids for swings. It looks like an ordinary golf club, but the difference with this particular training aid is that it has a sticky hinge at the end of the shaft. When a person uses it and swings incorrectly, the hinge would break. The goal is to practice swinging, all the while keeping the hinge from breaking. It is best for swing tempo practices. 4. Benderstik This is one of the best golf training aids for people who have trouble changing their swings. It helps the golf player to work on his swings by providing instant feedback. It is an adjustable, flexible stick with a large foam ball at the end. It works by taking the measurement of your individual swings and providing instant feedback to show whether you’re reverting back to old habits.

how to play a links course
L
inks golf courses lie on often remote stretches of land close to the sea. Playing a links is an exhilarating but demanding experience. You’re exposed to extreme weather conditions and usually play in winds far stronger than you ever experience inland.
From a distance such a course looks flat and quite featureless. But once you set foot on a links you discover that the ground is a mass of humps and hollows - many of the tee shots you face are semi-blind. Hard, fast running fairways can cause the occasional unpredictable bounce. Your ball may shoot forward on the first bounde, while the same shot pitching into a hump stops quickly. If you’re very unfortunate a ball flying straight down the middle of the fairway kicks into the rough. The short grass and closely mown fairways on a links course can remove some of the fear from your mid-range approach shots to the green. A crisply struck iron shot generates a great deal of backspin because very little grass comes between the clubface and the ball at impact. Watch the wind Strong wind is an important feature of links golf, so make sure you use it to your advantage whenever possible. Try to forget the distance you usually hit the ball - wind drastically alters your nomal club selection. Into the wind demands a precise strike. Always take plenty of club and swinger shorter than normal. A three-quarter shot helps you hit the ball lower to give you more control in the wind. Remember that playing into the wind exaggerates the spin off links turf and you can stop the ball even on firm greens. Wind behind should encourage you to hit the ball higher to gain maximum distance on the shot. With luck you can reduce long par 5s to a comfortable 4 strokes and look for birdies on par 4s. Downwind it’s difficult to put enough backspin on the ball to pitch and stop it neatly on the green. Take less club, swing smoothly and let the wind carry the ball towards the target. Aim to pitch the ball well short of the green and expect plenty of run on the shot. The Back Nine of GLOUCESTER COUNTY ♦ advertising to move your business forward ♦ 24
Cross winds force you to aim way off line and allow the ball to be blown back on target. Depending on the strength and direction of the wind, select a spot to one side and set up to hit the ball straight at it. Swing normally and let the wind do the rest. Short game strategy Many golfers forget that wind affects the short game as well as the longer shots. This is especially true on a links course. When you chip from close to the green your main thought must be to keep the ball near the ground. A low pitch and run is always a safer shot in wind than a high lob. A 7 iron is the ideal club for the shot. The ball runs twice the distance it travels in the air, so select an area to pitch the ball on and visualize it running towards the hole. Grip down the club and position the ball towards the center of your stance. Swing the club as you do witha long putt - the arms moving back and through togther with very little wrist break. Make sure you keep your hands ahead of the ball throughout to promote a crisp strike. Bear in mind that a long putt on a large sloping links green can often take two or three different breaks. It;s important to study the slope of the green carefully. Look at a putt along the ball-to-target link and then from the side on to give you a better perspective. Wind also affects the roll of the ball. Set yourself realistic goals - occasionally a long putt drops but you should never be disappointed to get down in 2 strokes. Deep trouble Bunkers a hard to spot in the humps and hollows of a links course and devillishly difficult to escape from. A yardage chart comes in useful if you’re not familiar with the course - it can perform the role of an experienced caddie. Study the chart and lay up short of bunkers if necessary. Don’t take risks - it’s fine to sacrifice distance, particularly if it keeps you on the fairway. When you land in a fairway pot bunker it’s unlikely you have a direct route to the green - concentrate on making sure you next shot isn’t from the same spot. The powdery fine sand is perfect for the high splash shot. Open your stance and keep the clubface open. Swing long and smooth on an out-to-in path. Huge sandy dunes are punishing hazards that surround many fairways and greens. You’re bound to be faced with an awkward stance and the thick, wiry grass doesn’t let go of your ball easily. Play your recovery with a sand wedge and grip the club tight. It’s difficult to achieve any distance, so don’t be too ambitious with your escape. the back nine of GLOUCESTER COUNTY ♦ backninepublishing.com ♦ 25
how to maintain golf cart batteries
S
erious, even dangerous threats can eventuate by improperly maintaining your golf cart’s batteries.
A lack of knowledge about basic golf cart battery maintenance can lead to all kinds of problems. Some users assume that the batteries that operate their golf carts are maintenance-free. However, the key to achieving optimum performance and long life is a solid golf cart battery maintenance program. It is recommended that you obtain following equipment for use in golf cart battery care and maintenance: A wrench; distilled water; a voltmeter (an instrument used for measuring the voltage between two points in an electric circuit); a hydrometer (a tool used to measure the specific gravity of the electrolyte solution); a post cleaner; some baking soda; petroleum jelly and possibly the most of all goggles and gloves. Always wear protective clothing, acid proof gloves and goggles when handling lead acid batteries and remove all jewellery. It’s important to have lots of water and baking soda nearby as this will neutralise any acid spills from battery refilling and prevent further corrosive damage. Remember, the electrolyte is a solution of acid and water, so skin contact should be avoided and, do not smoke near batteries and never add acid to a battery. Golf carts are typically powered by six lead-acid batteries mounted beneath the front seat. The Back Nine of GLOUCESTER COUNTY ♦ advertising to move your business forward ♦ 26
First of all, examine the outside appearance of the batteries. You should look for cracks in the container and the top of the battery. Posts and connections should be free of dirt, fluids and corrosion. You should replace any damaged batteries. Check that all vent caps are tight. Then clean the battery top with a cloth or brush and a solution of baking soda and water ensuring that any cleaning solution or any other foreign matter does not get inside the battery. Then rinse with clean water and dry with a clean cloth. Solvents or spray cleaners should not be used. Then clean the battery terminals and the inside of the cable clamps with a post and clamp cleaner. Reconnect the clamps to the terminals and thinly coat them with petroleum jelly. Always keep the area around the batteries clean and dry. Water should only be added after fully charging the battery. Prior to charging, there should be enough water to cover the plates. If the battery has been discharged (partially or fully), the water level should be above the plates. Some important things to remember are: Do not allow plates to be exposed to air and do not fill the water all the way up to the cap. Do not use water with a high mineral content. You should use only distilled or deionised water. Check water levels in each cell of each battery weekly to ensure that the leaded plates in the battery are submerged in liquid. Don’t fill the cell all the way up — add just enough water to cover the plates. Lastly, please follow the manufacturer’s instructions for maintaining batteries. here is information available widely through the web, PGA courses and magazine articles that brings you up to date with the latest thinking in golf. They teach you the latest on how to swing each club correctly, how to putt, how to analyse your swing, how to get mentally ‘tough’, how to improve flexibility and how to fitter and stronger for golf.
Today there is a plethora of information being offered about golf. Some of it correct, all of it interesting, but how much of it is relevant to you? And how do you know which of these generic exercise tips is going to help you? Even if you trained using each one for 6 weeks and then took the results onto the course and tried them - how do you then know whether your performance is ‘that exercise’ or that you just had a good day? Even video/digital analysis, although interesting from all points of view measure the movement discrepancies in a golfer’s swing, it doesn’t tell us why you are performing these movement aberrations. Knowing what you’re doing wrong, but not knowing why you’re doing it is sometimes worse than not knowing what you’re doing wrong! Golfers and Coaches need a simple system of analysis that they can use in conjunction with their coaching techniques to find out why golfers perform their particular swing. Although there are fundamental similarities to all good swings, each swing is like a finger-print and unique to that individual. Why is it unique? It’s because we are all biomechanically different and unless you understand what those differences are, how can you identify whether your swing is due to poor technique or something that has to be done to compensate for a mechanical problem? You can’t. The variety of golf swings that exists represents the many ways that the human body can compensate for its biomechanical problems. For example, let’s take a typical handicapper’s slice. You know the typical causes of a slice and the things you would normally work on, bearing in mind the individual and what you see. At the same time we The Back Nine of GLOUCESTER COUNTY ♦ advertising to move your business forward ♦ 28
also know that these ways don’t always work. There may be a number of reasons for this, the you may not be practicing, it may take some time to work out which is the best method for you or quite simply it may be that the person doesn’t have it in him to do what you want. Alternatively, it is likely that he can’t do it. If that pupil has a longer right leg (assuming he’s a right handed golfer), then he will have a tendency towards a more upright back swing. We know this because of the way spine and pelvis work biomechanically. A longer right leg compresses the joints in the spine on that side and so they can’t rotate easily. They therefore have to side bend to gap the joints and initiate movement, which causes an upright backswing. We also know that this then leads to a more out-to-in downswing and therefore a slice (depending upon grip and ball position of course). So you could work all day on preventing this upright backswing, which you know is leading to a slice, but it will not change until you’ve addressed the leg length discrepancy. Invariably these leg length discrepancies are cause by a rotated pelvis and often they don’t cause symptoms, you won’t even know it exists. If this is the case then doing some simple exercises can help re-align the pelvis, reduce the leg length discrepancy and allow you to flatten that back swing. There are many more of these examples. As well as leg length discrepancies, other biomechanical issues can include, poor motor programming strategy (the way the muscles link together in movement patterns), poor control between the pelvis and shoulders, nerve adhesions or stiffness, faulty core muscle control, immobility around the hips, pelvis and spine as well as simple lack of flexibility. Some of these issues sound quite technical and complex, but they’re actually very simple to test and eradicate. Biomechanics works ‘hand in glove’ with your teaching, it is crucial Pro’s understand and embrace this as its going to be the next big thing in golf. There is a system that exits that can help you and pros to learn about and address these issues. It comes 3 forms. Firstly there is a software package that takes you through some simple biomechanical tests and the expert system takes you through as series of exercises to eradicate their biomechanical problems. Secondly there are courses, which are endorsed by the PGA, which teach PGA professionals how to assess their own pupils and administer the exercises themselves. Or, thirdly experts can come to your club and assess your pupils individually and make bespoke recommendations based upon a detailed assessment of their biomechanics and following a discussion with their PGA professional, a decision can be made as to the best programme for them to follow. the back nine of GLOUCESTER COUNTY ♦ backninepublishing.com ♦ 29

hoosing the right type of golf balls can make the difference between a bad game and a great game. And if you think that all you need to do is use the same type of balls that Tiger Woods uses, you may be in for a surprise. When it comes to golf balls you need to choose the right types of balls for you. When you choose the wrong golf ball you may be adding a handicap to your game that you can avoid by playing with the right balls. There are three different styles of golf balls that you can choose from: • 2-piece Balls • 3-piece Balls • High Performance Balls If you want to improve your distance shots you’ll want to use a 2-piece golf ball. If, on the other hand, you’re focusing on accuracy, you’ll want to use either a 3-piece or a high performance golf ball. If you’re a beginner, you’ll find that 2-piece golf balls
are perfect since they’re less expensive than other golf balls. This is one way that you can save a bit of money while you learn all about the sport of golf and how to play the game. 2-piece golf balls are also a good choice if you’re slow a swinger since the rubber core of the inner ball is quite large, allowing for a faster speed. For those golfers who have an accuracy that is inconsistent a 2-piece ball is the better choice. This is because a 3-piece ball won’t forgive all those inaccurate hits that you make in one game. And if you’re an inaccurate hitter, you won’t want to use high performance balls since these golf balls are meant for professional golfers who have mastered their game of golf. Golf balls are something that you’ll want to pay attention to as you learn the game of golf and become more proficient. Having the right golf balls can improve your score and put you into the competitive playing field.

praCtice makes perfect
ave you been trying to improve H your golf swing but to no avail? Just like what most of the greatest players have said, “A golf swing is like a fingerprint, no two are alike.”
If you have been watching some of the world’s best players and if you have read the biographies or golf instruction books of some of golf’s legendary players and instructors, you will notice each has a style of their own. One of the best players to have ever played the game was Ben Hogan. Having won more than 60 professional tournaments in his career including all of golf’s four major tournaments, you would not believe he had a golf swing problem which is known to golfers as “hooking.” Hooking is when the golf ball tends to veer towards the left side of the fairway. Hogan, who is actually left handed as he has stated in one of his books, played with his right hand and used a strong grip. This was theorized as the reason for his hooking the ball. To solve this problem, Hogan developed a swing which would be known as “The Secret.” Revealed in several magazines some years back and which were based on observations done while Hogan was actually playing, the ball striker’s swing consisted of using a slightly weaker grip, opening the clubface during the takeaway using the wrists and then using his right knee as a trigger to initiate the downswing. This swing is now known the world over as the “Hogan Fade.”
The golfer who instilled the importance of practicing has written two golf instruction books, Power Golf and Five Lessons, the legendary golfer talks about the basic essentials of having a consistent and good golf swing. In the book the golfer also known as “The Hawk” explains the importance of how to hold the club the right way, how to address the ball correctly and how to swing the club from the takeaway to the follow through. You can also now catch his golf instruction online, by typing “Ben Hogan’s Timeless Tips” or “Ben Hogan Swing Keys.” Golfing equipment also play an important role in playing good golf. Over the years a lot of modifications have been developed in terms of golf clubs, putters, golf balls and other golf training aids. Unlike before where golfers could only check their swing if they took a video of themselves hitting the ball, advance technology has made it possible to analyze a golfer’s swing inch by inch. In this way, a golfer’s bad habit could be easily corrected by providing the appropriate golf training aids and golfing equipment. From putting green to golf swing trainers to practice nets for the garage and a whole lot more to choose from, you can be sure your golf game would improve tremendously if you keep using these devices consistently. Take it from Ben Hogan the golfer who has been tagged by his peers as the guy who gave the word “practice” a whole new meaning since he was known to have trained the most among all of them during their time. Practice really does make it perfect!

get the most out of your game
re you an aspiring golfer A who doesn’t know where to start, or an intermediate golfer looking to improve your game? This article is written for golfers of all skill levels who want to know what techniques they can try to improve their shots and lower their scores. Read on to find out how.
In order to be good at golf, one of the basic things that you need to take care of is your grip. It is good to know how the ball will act in response to your grip. The tighter you hold the golf club, the more likely it is that the ball will go to the right. The looser the grip, the more likely that the ball will go to the left.
Add power to your swing by using your body, not your arms. Lean in to power your shot. Turn with the ball on the downswing. This lets you use the power of all of the muscles in your body to get a better shot, instead of being limited to just your arm muscles. Another helpful tip is to be sure that you are a positive role model on the course when it comes to sportsmanship. This will say a lot about your character and help to build up the relationship with whoever you are playing with. Never let competitiveness get in the way of friendship.
A helpful tip when it comes to golf is to make sure that you follow through with each shot that requires a full hit. This is helpful because you want to make the most out of your swing and stopping short may cause you to not hit the ball as far as intended.
If you want to get rid of a hook the first thing you should do is check your grip. If your grip is too strong, your right hand is rotated too far over your left hand, you should practice moving your hand to a more neutral position. This will open your club face at contact and should prevent the hook.
Additionally, always be sure to try to find the reason why things go wrong if you have a bad day or bad shot. It is common to blame outside factors for your shortcomings, but you will not become a better golfer unless you can narrow down how to improve.
We hope you enjoyed this article about improving your golfing game. Hopefully, no matter what your skill level, you’ve learned something here that can improve your game and your overall skill as a golfer. Apply these tips in your practice, play to see your scores drop and come out ahead of your opponents.

Golf Grip Tips To Improve Your Golf Game
I
t comes as no big surprise that practicing the swing of your golf club is important to your success on the fairway. But how often do you work on your grip? Probably not nearly as often as you should. And no, I don’t mean the actual rubber grip on your club. I mean how you hold your hands! Holding the club the wrong way can really cause all sorts of issues. The ball may not fly nearly as far, the club may feel awkward or even uncomfortable in your hands. I’ve even seen golf clubs go flying out of the user’s hand. All because the way they were holding the club was just entirely incorrect.
Second, keep your off-hand relaxed with the palm facing you. Lay the grip of the club across the inside of your fingers, right between the second and third knuckle. If you’ve done this correctly, the butt of the club should extend just past the third knuckle of your pinkie. The third step has you curl your middle, ring and pinkie fingers around the shaft of the club. Your thumb will also curl inward and end up resting with the meaty part of your thumb pressed onto the grip. At this point, you should be able to feel the entirety of the club’s grip with those four fingers. If you’ve got it totally correct you shouldn’t feel your thumb or forefinger touching.
If I haven’t done something in a while, I like to pretend like I’ve never done it. If I haven’t practiced my golf grip in a while, I do the exact same thing. I forget everything my mind and hands tell me to do. It’s just better to mentally start with a blank slate sometimes.
For the final step, take your dominant hand and place it comfortably on the club. Imagine a clock face. The head of the club would be pointing directly at the 12 o’clock position and your dominant thumb pointing towards the 11 o’clock position. Then simply lay it flat on the club. If it feels more natural and comfortable to you, you can also To start, place your dominant hand interlock your pinkie and forefingers. on the club right where the grip and the shaft meet. choosing the perfect golf bag
I
t can be difficult to choose the perfect golf bag, considering the variety of choices available to you. It is crucial that you keep your golf equipment protected, taking into account the money that you’ve spent when purchasing your equipment. When you are choosing among the many different kinds of golf bag, you need to take into consideration the price, the size, the number of dividers inside the bag, the strap, the weight, the color and the material. There are quite a few details to take into account, so looking for the ideal bag can be quite difficult. However, you must also take into consideration your personal preference. There are bags made to fit in a golf cart and there are bags made specifically for walking purposes. If you often put your bag on the ground, then the standing golf bags are best for you. They come with one or two straps – you should pick the one that provides the most comfort when carrying the bag. You should not feel discomfort when carrying your bag. If you frequently put your bag on the ground, then the standing golf bags are a great choice for you. Standing bags are also equipped with lightweight and sturdy legs. You can just lay it to the ground and it will instantly stand on its own. With its three legs, standing diagonally becomes feasible.
The best thing about standing bags is that they are still great carry bags. Stand bags can be found with a few different features, such as a cooler, valuables pouch and an included putter. A maximum of 14 clubs can fit in a carry golf bag. Its space for other golf accessories like balls and tees are quite limited, but it’s enough to get you through 18 holes. Since golf clubs are normally heavy, those with back issues and other physical limitations must think hard before selecting a carry bag. People who prefer this kind of bag usually choose it due to the straps that make it comfortable to carry across the golf course. Those who prefer using golf carts must choose a golf cart bag. This bag provides a bit more flexibility for golf accessory storage and organization. This is also best for individuals who don’t want to carry their bags throughout the game. Professionals often choose tour bags, which are often leather-made. These golf bags are expensive, but they are sturdy and will comfortably fit the necessary clubs and accessories. Regardless of your preferences, make sure you are not sacrificing comfort. Find out if the linings of the bag are well-secured so that your bag will not break open under pressure. All in all, the perfect golf bag is one that fits your individual needs.

For the simplest way to keep score, just count the number of strokes you’ve taken on the hole just completed, and write that number down in the box corresponding to that hole on the scorecard. At the end of each nine holes, tally up the strokes for your front nine and back nine totals, respectively, then add up those two numbers for your 18-hole score. the back nine of GLOUCESTER COUNTY ♦ backninepublishing.com ♦ 41
