4 ways you didn’t know home care could help
By Anne Hein, communications manager at ComForCare Health Care Holdings, LLC Originally published on The Best Life Blog at www.blog.comforcare.com
N
ine out of 10 people 65 and older want to stay in their home as long as possible.1 However, many will need assistance to do so. That’s where in-home care comes in. Home care helps seniors continue to live in their own home and continue to do all the things they love. Our compassionate caregivers can assist with personal care, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping and running errands. However, that’s only a fraction of what home care can do. Here are some additional ways in-home care can help older adults.
Keep Seniors Connected Loneliness can affect someone’s emotional and physical health. Among older adults, 43 percent report feeling lonely on a regular basis.2 Researchers found lonely seniors were more likely to experience a decline in the ability to perform activities of daily living such as eating, bathing and toileting.3 Loneliness is also associated with an increased risk of death.4 Caregivers provide companionship older adults often desire. An in-home caregiver can engage with a senior to keep them socially and mentally active. At ComForCare Home Care we take into account a person’s unique hobbies, skills and interests, and incorporate meaningful activities into their daily routines. Get Older Adults Around Town Transportation can be an obstacle for older adults. One in five seniors reports missing activities they like to do because of driving limitations.5 The Back Nine of TAMPA ♦ advertising to move your business forward ♦ 04
Caregivers can assist with transportation to and from social engagements, religious services and doctor appointments. We can also help with grocery shopping, trips to the beauty salon/barbershop and other errands. Prevent Falls Every year, 2.8 million seniors6 are treated in emergency departments for injuries related to falls, and the majority of falls7 happen at home. Injuries can make it difficult for someone to live independently. The good news is most falls can be prevented through home modifications and lifestyle changes. Many of our offices offer free in-home safety checks and fall risk assessments. Our trained professionals can look at all aspects of a person’s living conditions and make recommendations to reduce fall risks. In addition, if there is a fall, illness or emergency, an in-home caregiver can make sure the person gets proper medical attention right away. Relieve Family Stress While rewarding, caring for an aging parent or relative can be emotionally and physically demanding. Plus, everyone needs a break sometimes. We provide what’s known as respite care. This allows family caregivers to take time away from their caregiving responsibilities to rest, relax and rechargewhile ensuring their loved one receives the highest quality care. We also offer special music-based programs for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. In addition, individuals with disabilities or those recovering from an illness or surgery can benefit from our services. For more information, please call ComForCare Home Care of North Hillsborough at 813-374-2567. Please also see our ad on page 03 of the magazine.

t’s no secret that quality golf gear can be a bit on the pricey side. But if you’re really committed to learning how to play your best game, then properly fitting golf wholesale equipment is essential. Do you have to spend a fortune on all of the latest, most high tech, brand name clubs and gear? Of course not. But taking the time to see the club fitter at your local course or golf shop and getting the measurements for clubs that fit you best will go a long way towards improving your game from day one. Make the initial investment, and every other golf tip you follow will work out better for it. Unless you’re giving yourself enough room to follow through, your swing won’t be nearly as effective. The secret to a proper stance lies in the width of your feet. You should be setting yourself up wide, with most of your weight on the right side of your body. Tilt your shoulders to the right, as well. As a point of reference, your head should be aligned slightly to the right of the top of the zipper on your pants. Once you’re in position, make sure you’re holding your driver far enough from your body to allow for a powerful swing.
One of the biggest mistakes made by amateur women golfers is to attempt to scoop the ball into the air with the head of the club. In reality, this will cause your swing to slow down after impact. The definition of proper tempo is a buildup of speed. Harnessing that acceleration and learning to control your speed and power is the best way to drive your swing through the impact on the ball, bringing you to a full finish. Like anything else, perfecting your golf game takes effort, commitment, and most of all time. The bottom line is this: if you don’t get out and play, you’ll never get any better. Putting in at least two rounds a month (even if it’s just 9 holes) will go a long way towards getting you where you want to be. Consider joining a women’s league! Being around other enthusiastic beginners might be just the impetus you need to get out and put in the time on your game. Keep in mind that you’re still learning, so don’t stress your score too much to begin with. Instead, focus on developing your game and style, and experiment with different shots and clubs.

Golf Instructions 101
olf is not just about hitting a ball G with the end of a stick. It is much more than that. Though professionals
have always made golf seem like a relatively easy sport, it is in reality one of the hardest sports to play. It is all about hitting the ball correctly with the proper golf club. It is about controlling the swings to control the flight of the ball. Golf is more than what meets the eye. It is for this reason that golf instruction is quite needed for beginners and with this being said, here are a few tips that make up the basic golf instruction: 1. Add more loft at impact to make the ball fly farther To understand this golf instruction, it is important to know what loft is. Loft is actually the degree of the clubface at the set up. When the drives hit off the upper half of the face, the result would be a higher dynamic loft. Hitting the upper half also makes the shot spin less. Following these principles, when a player hits the center or the upper half of the clubface, this would result in a higher degree in initial launch and with less spins. This would then make the ball fly further and higher. It will also land with a stronger forward roll. To be able to hit higher, it is suggested that the player tilt his shoulder during setup. The left shoulder should be lower than the right shoulder. This stance will make the player hit the ball on an increasing angle of attack.
This particular golf instruction would be perfectly executed when repeatedly practiced several times 2. Focus is the best play Golf is not a lazy and distracted man’s sport. This golf instruction number two focuses on the being and concentration of the player. To make sure that all hits would give the desired effect, the person should have his full attention to his drive. Focus does not necessarily mean that a person should make tactics or create game plays. It only means that the player should be engaged in the game, relax when doing the swings, and think of the present. It would help when a golf player would imagine what his swings should result into and not what would happen after every strike. 3. Balance is a personal practice for golf instruction Though there is a standard stance that instructors teach beginners, there is also a certain stance that gives the player the most comfort and best balance. A player should therefore try a number of stances during initial set up and see which of these stance resulted in the best drives. A recommended routine is to try swinging with the legs together first, then swing with only the right foot on the ground. The next few swings would then be done with the left foot on the ground. Finally, when the person has fixed his balance, he should try swinging with his eyes close. This short routine helps a person with his balance.

driving off the deck
T
hree tips to help your drive: Shoulders on Line, Feet Shut, Shoulders square to the target. People don’t really speak about this shot very much, but if it comes up at all you’ve probably been told, “If you’re going to hit the driver off the deck you’ve got to hit a big swing. It’s the only way to get the ball up.” Contrary to popular belief, that isn’t entirely correct. If you have enough club head quickness there’s no need to just hit a big cut. Of course, if you want to hit a big cut you still have that option. You can still strike it well, and high, and far, but you will lose control of the ball and lose length as a result. For this shot, you’re trying to hit the ball dead straight. Maybe a slight cut if you want to, but
you can actually work the ball both ways when striking the driver off the deck. Take your regular driver arrangement, with your feet a little bit shut. Line up your shoulders and club face square to the target line. Keeping your feet slightly shut helps shallow out your path on the way back and through. That’s important, because if you have a very steep path you’re just going to heave that club head right down in the earth. You need to sweep the ball, but you still have to hit down on it with the driver when you’re hitting it off the deck. There are a couple little tricks to make this shot functional. First, keep the club face dead square to your feet line. Rather than focusing on getting
The Back Nine of TAMPA ♦ advertising to move your business forward ♦ 14
it square to the shoulder plane or the target line, you want the club head a little bit inside. Why would you want that? Squaring the club face to the feet line helps you come through the ball shallower. If you take the club back very steep, you’re going to have to redirect it on the way back down. As you go back, you’re actually getting more revolution in your left forearm from off the ball, to get the club coming back behind your hands. You want that spin in your hands because it helps shallow out the path on the way back. As you keep going to the top you’re still rotating the left forearm, getting the arm plane a little shallower than usual. As you get closer to the top, even though you’ve rotated your left forearm pretty aggressively taking the club back, the club face is still square to your forearm.

t i ps f o r p u r s u i n g a professional golf Career
G
olf has recently become a much more popular game to the world of sports. In recent years, the game of golf has also seen an increase as a career choice as golf programs and golf schools around the country make it that much easier to enter into the field. Below you will find some tips on how to pursue your professional golf career. Have Prior Knowledge of The Game You need to be familiar with the game of golf when you’re making the decision to have a golf career. This entails having a huge commitment to this sport and knowing everything there is to know about the rules, golf etiquette, how to play, etc. Before you do this, you should be positive that this is what you want to do. Can you imagine yourself playing golf for a living? Do you find yourself spending countless hours on the driving range, practice green or course? If you do, then this if a perfect start for you. But if some of your worst moments happened on a golf
course, or you think you might like a career in something besides golf, you might want to just keep this game as a hobby for the weekend with the guys. Have a Backup Plan You always want to have a backup plan. It’s not impossible to succeed as a professional golfer, but it can be difficult. If it doesn’t work out for you, it doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t pursue a golfing career in some way. There are many options, such as golf instruction, golf facility management, golf business management and golf equipment sales. These are all jobs that you can benefit off of for experience and education, and will also hopefully interest you almost as much as playing the game itself. Get an Education from a Good School No different from any other professional career, a good education is a must and very important in the golf industry. Golf schooling really opens up a lot of
The Back Nine of TAMPA ♦ advertising to move your business forward ♦ 16
doors to opportunities that others who are seeking a professional golf career might not get. Having a golf degree on your resume also tells employers that you know that game and the business nature of the game, making you a more attractive pick over someone who would require more training in the field. The fact that you pursued an education in the business shows that you have already gained a lasting interest to the sport, whereas someone without that kind of background could decide in a month or two that golf just isn’t the thing for him or her. This is one of the best ways to let employers know and prove to them that you want the job. Gain as Much Practical Experience as Possible Yes, a degree does say a lot about you to an employer, but so does your work history. The more work experience you get in the industry before you graduate, the better chance you have of finding a good job right out of school. A lot of different options are available to those who are pursuing a professional golfing career. Most golf schools have a lot of thriving internship programs that allow students to gain valuable work and experience, while receiving an education at the same time. Your school, a lot of the time, may also be able to provide you with a long-term part time or fulltime job while you are a student. Remember! The whole point of pursuing a professional golf career is to be employed doing something you absolutely love. If you become to stressed out all the time or have a sense of urgency to make your education and career into more of a job, you could permanently destroy any enjoyment you’ve ever had for the game. Try to remember to always stay optimistic and make an effort to keep both work and school fun no matter what trials may face you ahead. And always remember whatever happens: don’t forget that you are in this spot because you followed what you wanted to be. lot of golfers get bogged down in the numbers game, analysing their every shot, loft, number of spikes in their shoes, buttons on their trousers, etc. It all makes us feel better when we hit another errant shot. But a lot of people would like to know just what average is, so let’s crunch some of the numbers. What is the average handicap? According to this extract from the Daily Mail , the average for men and women is 15.2. However the average score is well over 100. Why such a disparity? Well, the majority of scores posted are by keen golfers; i.e. those who play often enough to get their handicap lower. Plus you’re less likely to post that 115 in the rain... Are people honest about their handicap? Golf digest states almost 90% of handicaps are truthful. What about the other 10%? These fall into the following categories: • Sandbaggers: these post artificially high scores so they have more of an advantage in net competitions. They may post very few scorecards, or even simply cheat to make their scores worse. They make up around 2% of golfers. • Vanity handicappers: the opposite of sandbaggers, these golfers post only their very best scores, or embellish them to appear better. It is estimated these make up around 10% of golfers. The Back Nine of TAMPA ♦ advertising to move your business forward ♦ 18
Scratch that, what are the driving distances A study from growingthegame.org demonstrated that the average drive for a 90-95 scoring male golfer is just 192 yards. For women scoring 95-100, the figure is 145 yards. These figures taken from average golfer represent a lower handicap player: • • • • • •
Average driver distance, men: 200-260 yards. Average driver distance, women: 150-200 yards. Average 6 iron, men: 130-160 yards. Average 6-iron, women: 70-130 yards. Average pitching wedge, men: 80-120 yards. Average pitching wedge, women: 50-80 yards.
Golfers overestimate their drivers by anything up to 20-30+ yards. However, lower handicap players tend to be more accurate in their assessment. How long should a round of golf take? A round of golf is commonly quoted as lasting around 4-5 hours. However, this increases or decreases depending on your handicap. A study showed that 60% of use take 4-5 hours, however 40% of 0-9 handicappers get a round done in under 4 hours. 10% of 30+ handicappers take 5-6 hours to finish a round, looking for their lost balls presumably.

improve your short game
article I will be discussing how your short game all the Iwayntothisimprove from your iron shot to putting on the green. These tips will ensure you play to the best of your ability out there on the course.
Iron Shots The first step in producing a successful iron shot is knowing what club to choose. Each iron club is used pertaining to the distance the golfer is from the hole. Depending on each player, you must match your personal distance with each club with your distance from the hole. For example, I personally hit my 7 Iron around from 150-170 yards, so if I am within that range on the course, that is my club of choice. The next step in a successful iron shot is to line up your stance. The higher the number on the club, the more you want to place the ball even with the back half of your stance in order to provide loft to the shot. And vice versa for lower numbers; place the ball closer to the front of your stance. Since each club will provide you with a matched distance, you want to make sure you take a full swing no matter what club you have. Many beginner golfers make the mistake of shorting their swing if they are closer to the pin. However, if you have chosen the right club, there will be no need to do that. Chipping If you are not an exceptional golfer, chances are you have not yet reached the green on your second shot. Chances are that your second shot ended up in the rough near the putting green. If this is the case, chipping is probably your best option for your third shot. There are multiple clubs with wchich golfers choose to chip their balls. The most common
type of club is a pitching wedge or 52 Degree Wedge. The 52 Degree Wedge provides a bit more loft to your shot, but both clubs are very similar. Depending of your distance from the green, a chip shot should be swung light and with proper follow-through. Many golfers use punch chip shots, which are sometimes effective, but are inconsistent at times. You truly want to swing through the ball and finish through to give your chip shot maximum loft. Chipping is a very delicate type of golf shot because it is all dependent on the golfers touch. You don’t want to swing too hard or to light, in the end your speed of the club is up to the golfers own perspective. Another type of chip shot commonly used in golf is the runner. The runner is a chip shot (usually used with the 8 Iron) where you have to bounce the ball far across the green. This club ensures that you won’t loft the ball that high, allowing the ball to run across the green toward the hole. This shot is for more experienced golfers, but can be very useful in certain situations out on the course. Putting Probably the most frustrating part of the game of golf, putting can turn your game around for better or worse. The first part of ensuring a good putter shot is to read your ball’s lie. This means read the greens angles and elevation to predict the path of the shot you are about to take. This is seen a lot when you watch pro golfers. They usually stand behind their ball to get a key for the shot. The next part of a great putter shot is the swing itself. Many beginner golfers bring their putter head back to far in their shot, causing them to lose the path that they lined up. The correct shot is to bring the head back slightly, then push your club through the ball in the path you want it to travel.

here is nothing like the gift of original artwork. It can last forever and be handed down from generation to generation. Nathan Miller is an artist who has an incredible devotion to detail and captures the essence of his subject matter, whether it is a portrait of a person, the family dog, beautiful birds or a memorable place. Nathan strives to hit the ball out of the park with every painting he does.
Nathan’s journey in art began as a child. He enjoyed drawing animals, people, dragons and dinosaurs. He was always known as the artist in the classroom. Taking notes was synonymous with doodling. When he was fifteen years old, he moved to Jerusalem, Israel, because of his father’s work. During his high school years, he traveled to Kenya and Uganda, which would influence his art for years to come. Midway through his senior year, Nathan returned to the U.S., where he and his family settled in Gainesville, Florida. After finishing his final semester at Buchholz High School, he enrolled at the University of Florida where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. After graduating, he accepted a Web Design position in Houston, Texas. He enjoyed life as a young professional in a large city with many other young professionals. His circle of friends grew and life was characterized by social outings, relationships, community activities, and financial stability. But, after five years, he chose to pursue another path. The Back Nine of TAMPA ♦ advertising to move your business forward ♦ 22
Nathan felt as though a part of him was being neglected. Although he felt at home in the city and enjoyed his work environment, he knew he had to paint.Web Design was a job, but painting was a passion. And because he enjoyed surfing and exploring the outdoors, Costa Rica called him. He sold his belongings, stocked up on art supplies, and began the next chapter in his life. For the next five years, Nathan dove into his art from the small town of Nosara, Costa Rica. He left Graphic Design and did everything he could to learn, grow, and evolve as an artist. The lifestyle was more laid back. It was exactly what he needed to focus on his work. It wasn’t long before Nathan became known throughout Costa Rica. He won first place in a national art contest and then became one of the most prominent artists featured at the Hidden Garden Gallery in Liberia, Costa Rica. He built a business specializing in giclée prints on stretched canvas, and eventually spent most of his time focused on commissioned paintings of wildlife and portraiture. In order to be immersed in a culture of art and to take his work to the next level, Nathan chose to return to the United States, where he now resides in St. Petersburg, Florida. St. Pete is a city becoming increasingly popular for its vibrant and growing art scene. Nathan specializes in high-end realism, often depicting nature scenes and portraiture. His latest commission is a large five-foot by four-foot cityscape of Santorini, Greece. His ability to paint diverse themes in exact detail, while capturing the essence of his subject matter, is what makes him a perfect candidate for commissioned paintings. Since Nathan moved back to the U.S., he has developed a new body of work featuring Florida wildlife and portraiture. He can be reached by phone at 813-452-8963 or by email at info@nathanmiller.gallery. etiquette for rookies
ou have to be polite to play golf? Y Well... sort of. After all, golf is a gentlemen’s game. Of course, you are not expected to follow every single unwritten rule of the game, but here a few you should pinpoint on… Number One If you hit an errant shot (and trust me, you will) please yell “FORE” to warn nearby players. The last thing you need is a potential lawsuit on your hands because you didn’t open your mouth. Number Two If you are playing ahead of a clearly more experienced and skilled group, please let them play through. You will save them a lot of frustration and yourself a lot of embarrassment if you happen to have a rough day. The rangers on the golf course also appreciate if you keep up with the “pace of play” as they call it and this is easily accomplished by letting the big hitters be on their way. Number Three This is an important one to follow and the rest of your friends will appreciate if you abide by it. NEVER, under any circumstance, walk through the line of your buddy’s putt on the green. They’re worried enough about accounting for the break, speed, and slope of the green. The last thing they need is to figure out how to hit over your big fat shoe mark in the middle of their line. These are just a few simple tips
to follow when on the course but their importance is unmatched. Earlier this month, I wrote an article explaining how out of the loop some new golfers are with the etiquette of the game and just how detrimental that is. No one can really fault you for having a poor day at the course if you are truly giving forth your best effort and just not getting results. However, if you are being arrogant or violating the unwritten rules of golf over and over, you may get a well-justified earful after the round has concluded. And rightfully so. Another huge and crucial mistake most amateurs make is neglecting the mental aspects of the game. I’m not arguing against the fact that technique and fundamentals go a long way, rather pointing out that your performance can be heavily influenced by your attitude. If you are someone who has a quick temper, you need to address that immediately and leave the pouting at home. Getting down on yourself NEVER helps in the sport of golf. You will begin to cloud your head with negative thoughts to the point where you can hardly make contact with the ball anymore. Keeping a positive attitude before, during, and after the round is half the battle and you will notice results immediately. Golf is a game that takes quite some time to finally “master” so a good attitude will only speed up this process. As with any sport, one mistake can often snowball into many more if complemented by a negative attitude. Keep that in mind next time you pick up (or want to throw) a golf club.

bio mec han i c s & g olf
T
here is information available widely through the web, PGA courses and magazine articles that brings you up to date with the latest thinking in golf. They teach you the latest on how to swing each club correctly, how to putt, how to analyse your swing, how to get mentally ‘tough’, how to improve flexibility and how to be fitter and stronger for golf. Today there is a plethora of information being offered about golf. Some of it correct, all of it interesting, but how much of it is relevant to you? And how do you know which of these generic exercise tips is going to help you? Even if you trained using each one for 6 weeks and then took the results onto the course and tried them - how do you then know whether your performance is ‘that exercise’ or that you just had a good day? Even video/digital analysis, although interesting from all points of view measure the movement discrepancies in a golfer’s swing, it doesn’t tell us why you are performing these movement aberrations. Knowing what you’re doing wrong, but not knowing why you’re doing it is sometimes worse than not knowing what you’re doing wrong! Golfers and Coaches need a simple system of analysis that they can use in conjunction with their coaching techniques to find out why golfers perform their particular swing. Although there are fundamental similarities to all good swings, each swing is like a finger-print and unique to that individual. Why is it unique? It’s because we are all biomechanically different and unless you understand what those differences are, how can you identify whether your swing is due to poor technique or something that has to be done to compensate for a mechanical problem? You can’t. The variety of golf swings that exists represents the many ways that the human body can compensate for its biomechanical problems. For example, let’s take a typical handicapper’s slice. You know the typical causes of a slice and the things you would normally work on, bearing in mind the individual and what you see. At the same time we also know that these ways don’t always work. There may be a number of reasons for this, the you may not be practicing, it may take some time to work out which is the best method for you or quite simply it may be that the person doesn’t have it in him to do what you want. Alternatively, it is likely that he can’t do it. If that pupil has a longer right leg (assuming he’s a right handed golfer), then he will have The Back Nine of TAMPA ♦ advertising to move your business forward ♦ 26
a tendency towards a more upright back swing. We know this because of the way spine and pelvis work biomechanically. A longer right leg compresses the joints in the spine on that side and so they can’t rotate easily. They therefore have to side bend to gap the joints and initiate movement, which causes an upright backswing. We also know that this then leads to a more out-to-in downswing and therefore a slice (depending upon grip and ball position of course). So you could work all day on preventing this upright backswing, which you know is leading to a slice, but it will not change until you’ve addressed the leg length discrepancy. Invariably these leg length discrepancies are cause by a rotated pelvis and often they don’t cause symptoms, you won’t even know it exists. If this is the case then doing some simple exercises can help re-align the pelvis, reduce the leg length discrepancy and allow you to flatten that back swing. There are many more of these examples. As well as leg length discrepancies, other biomechanical issues can include, poor motor programming strategy (the way the muscles link together in movement patterns), poor control between the pelvis and shoulders, nerve adhesions or stiffness, faulty core muscle control, immobility around the hips, pelvis and spine as well as simple lack of flexibility. Some of these issues sound quite technical and complex, but they’re actually very simple to test and eradicate. Biomechanics works ‘hand in glove’ with your teaching, it is crucial Pro’s understand and embrace this as its going to be the next big thing in golf. There is a system that exits that can help you and pros to learn about and address these issues. It comes 3 forms. Firstly there is a software package that takes you through some simple biomechanical tests and the expert system takes you through as series of exercises to eradicate their biomechanical problems. Secondly there are courses, which are endorsed by the PGA, which teach PGA professionals how to assess their own pupils and administer the exercises themselves. Or, thirdly experts can come to your club and assess your pupils individually and make bespoke recommendations based upon a detailed assessment of their biomechanics and following a discussion with their PGA professional, a decision can be made as to the best program for them to follow.

book your tee time online
T
here is no industry that has been unaffected by the age of the Internet. Web connectivity has effectively changed the way the world does business and the way people manage their lives. Many times that management system comes courtesy of a smartphone. People pay bills online, book event tickets, and make reservations all without needing to dial a number on a phone. So, it was only a matter of time before the Internet revolution trickled into the golfing world. The sport’s popularity is quickly gaining ground worldwide, with the Asian market bolstering a large part of that growth. The added growth has caused many golf courses to go online. Now people can book golf lessons, tee times and more using software designed for the
sport’s aficionados. In the not too distant past, people who wanted a tee time had to show up at the course to request a time. Then, showing up was replaced by a telephone call, and finally the call has been replaced by the Internet. Today’s world moves at the speed of light and sometimes people are unable to book tee times during a course’s business hours. Now, no one has to wait for a business to open. They just simply go online whenever it is convenient and book their tee time. The ease of booking can indirectly be attributed to a slight increase in people on the course. The easier and more innovative things are, the better it is for society. Now it is simpler for courses to organize their schedules because of the availability of software catering to golf businesses.
The Back Nine of TAMPA ♦ advertising to move your business forward ♦ 28
There are a few companies which sell software specifically for use within golf courses. This software allows their businesses to run seamlessly and gives them the ability to manage everything from one computer. Many software systems allow real time updates which permit golfers to be notified of any changes in availability which could possibly affect their tee times. The software has revolutionized businesses and someone would be hard pressed to discover a course or avid golfer that did not use some type of software to manage their golfing life. The need to manage large numbers of people has caused some of the world’s top courses to use software to help manage members and guests at their courses. Although many golfers have at least one type of tee management software on their computers or smartphones, many courses have a portal on their website for members to access available tee times, check the weather, and more. The sheer access of information permits many golfers to ensure that there will be nothing but blue skies on the day that they want to play. The software can also assist with increasing customer satisfaction, by giving them their ideal type of conditions to play. For example, someone is interested in playing at a certain time, so they log onto the site and discover that while their desired time is available, the time slots surrounding it will be quite full. Thus, the golfer books a time when there are fewer people golfing and anticipates enjoying the day. Another factor which aids golfers in enjoying their time spent golfing is the increased level of service software provides. Employees are granted more time to focus their energies to providing better service and ensuring things run smoothly since people have greatly reduced their call volume. The Internet has transformed the golfing industry for the better. It has employed seamless software integration to allow golfers the ability to schedule their tee times and perform other duties without calling the course. This freedom has caused an increase in service which is then transferred to happier members and more revenue. the back nine of TAMPA ♌ backninepublishing.com ♌ 29
are you swinging your club too hard?
T
he possibility of swinging excessively hard is enough to make even the best golfer stop in their tracks. Most golf enthusiastic are aware that swinging too hard is one of the 3 Golf Commandments never to break. So whenever you may hit an awful drive - the first thing out of the mouth of anyone nearby is: ‘You looked like you were trying to execute that ball!’ And your answer is no doubt: ‘Better believe it, I tried to hit that one a mile.’ Yet, have you ever thought seriously that the fear of swinging too hard could
really prompt more lost golf balls than actually doing it? What does that mean? As most golfers are so stressed over swinging excessively hard and hitting an awful golf shot - the best players on the planet are swinging near 30 mph (48 kph) faster than you. Yet, no one is letting them know that they’re swinging excessively hard - and by the looks of things - they’re hitting some really average golf shots that are interpreting into some really great scores. Would you concur? From the research that I’ve seen, the normal male is swinging his driver at 85 mph (137 kph) and the normal
The Back Nine of TAMPA ♦ advertising to move your business forward ♦ 30
female is swinging her driver at 75 mph (121 kph). Yet, Ernie Els, who’s regularly begrudged for how smooth he can swing - swings his Driver at 118 mph (190 kph). While Tiger swings his driver upwards of 125 mph (201 kph). Yet, the apprehension of you swinging excessively hard, despite the fact that you’re swinging around 40 mph slower than the pros - is no doubt making you hit more awful shots than when you do really swing excessively hard. Significance - as a result of this issue, you’re undoubtedly decelerating with your Driver, which could prompt such unpleasant impacts, for example, cutting and loss of separation. Have you ever accomplished both of those? Whenever you’re remaining by the first tee holding up for your tee time - watch the gathering that is teeing off. I expect you’ll see most Golfers decelerating their golf swing to the point that they really have the vast majority of their weight on their back foot at contact with the golf ball. Have you ever wound up with your weight on your back foot? Implying that in light of the fact that you’re making a decent attempt not to swing excessively hard, that you are utilizing your body to ease off your swing by inclining over on your back foot. Again, have you ever gotten yourself on your back foot after a drive? Deceleration! Trust me; on and around the greens aren’t the main spots you’re decelerating. You’re additionally in all likelihood doing likewise with your Driver. However, deceleration is frequently not reprimanded for the awful tee shot - it’s regularly mis-diagnosed by the ‘swing specialists’ that you may be playing with as “getting your head, swinging excessively hard, swinging outrageous, twisting your left elbow, not turning your shoulders, etc.” Yes, having the capacity to swing smooth can help you to hit a superior golf shot. However, attempting to swing moderate will really make you hit an awful golf shot. the back nine of TAMPA ♦ backninepublishing.com ♦ 31
how memories affect y o u r g o l f ga me
en Hogan often said that when he played his best golf, he would B address the ball and as if the shot had
already happened. Jack Nicklaus was absolutely convinced that he had never missed a putt from inside three feet on the back nine of a major championship. Tiger Woods in his own book said, “The secret to the mental game is the ability to instantly recall past success and then let go of failure.” And the common thread running through these comments from three of the game’s all-time greatest champions? The power of memory to cement thoughts and feelings associated with ultimate performance. My guess is that if you think back to the last round of discount burner 2 Irons you played, you will very quickly relate to the power your mind has over your performance. When you stand over a putt and you just know that you are going to make it, or (and rather more frequently) when you look at a certain shot and all you can see is the out of bounds running down the right side of the fairway... and guess where you hit it? Welcome then, to the wonderful world of your MEMORY and the way it influences your performance. We underestimate the power and the effect our memories have on our golf at our peril. In fact, I would go as far as to say that the way that you utilize
your memory will be one of the critical keys to your future as a golfer. In my own experience, with some of the players I have worked with over the last few years it has become very clear to me that the way golfers use their memory is very different. The greats like Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have worked it out. Recently, the field of neuroscience has begun to question how memory works and one of the most exciting developments has been the suggestion that we can actually take an active role in programming the way our memory functions in terms of our golfing experiences. Just how important a discovery could that be? What the scientists are telling us is that if we re-visit a certain memory of a past event, while we obviously cannot change the past event what we can do is change our interpretation of it. So if you lost a golf tournament, you will always have lost the tournament, but what you can change is your interpretation of the meaning of that defeat. And that is significant. If the meaning of that defeat is stored as the worst thing that has ever happened, then chances are that your unconscious mind will go to work and protect you from that experience ever happening again. So, the selfsabotage kicks in and finds ways of getting you to AVOID that situation. Poor performance is a great way of avoiding winning!

sma r t g u i d e t o electric golf trolleys
U
ndoubtedly, the demand for golf trolleys is on the rise -- especially the electric ones that work on batteries. However, the increasing variety of electric trolleys has made selection a bit challenging for the firsttime buyer. Here are some tips for choosing the most suitable electric trolley for the first time. Look for Entry Level In case you are unaware, golf manufacturers offer entry-level golf trolleys ranging from 100 to 300 dollars. This is a good way to begin in case of a limited budget, although it is worth investing more in case a budget vehicle
does not offer the features you need. Cost is truly the first factor but good value may be more important. Check Out Features A few new or fancy features (such as a remote control) tend to excite beginners. The remote control feature is likely to save energy and time by eliminating the need to continuously pull or push it. Another interesting feature is a distance function that allows the trolley to move ahead. Although these features are very tempting, you should not lose your focus on what you need. For most new buyers, the weight, build quality and battery life are
The Back Nine of TAMPA ♌ advertising to move your business forward ♌ 34
essential. It is certain that no new buyer would like to have their new remote control trolley lose battery by the 15th hole, or to see their budget trolley falling by the 12th hole. Therefore, you should always focus on the basic features first. However, you should not compromise other features for better quality. You need to ensure a long battery life, enough to cover the number of holes you usually like to play. Moreover, you should make sure the trolley is not too heavy and that it will last for a few years with good service. Examine YOUR OPTIONS If you are purchasing from a street-side store, have a small discussion with the staff. Find out whether or not the disclosed weight includes the battery, check out features and warranty, and ask about the return policy as well. To know about the best trolley for your requirements, consider chatting with your fellow golfers at the 19th hole. If you are buying online, spend some time searching for discounted offers and customer reviews to ensure you are getting the best quality product for your needs. IMPROVE YOUR MENTAL GAME Your mind can make you a better golfer. Hypnosis offers a rapid and effective
pathway to improve consistent athletic performance on all levels, amateur or professional.

For the simplest way to keep score, just count the number of strokes you’ve taken on the hole just completed, and write that number down in the box corresponding to that hole on the scorecard. At the end of each nine holes, tally up the strokes for your front nine and back nine totals, respectively, then add up those two numbers for your 18-hole score. the back nine of TAMPA ♦ backninepublishing.com ♦ 37
