President’s Letter BAHEP is known for its willingness to take on a leadership role in many projects and initiatives that could ultimately result in job retention and growth in our region. We could not be successful, however, without our many partnerships. We are especially thankful for the support of our 13 member cities, including the relationship we have with Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and the members of the Houston City Council. The Special Honors section here will help to explain why. Our BAHEP committees are examples of other wonderful partnerships. They are comprised of leaders within the Bay Area Houston region and are remarkable not only for the amount of work they accomplish but also for providing a platform for business development between members.

Bob Mitchell agenda for the 86th Texas Legislature, and our Education & Workforce Development Committee has been bringing industry and educational institutions together to discuss workforce development. BAHEP’s International Maritime Advisory Committee, Aerospace Advisory Committee, Citizens for Space Exploration/Texas, Small Business Committee, Healthcare Committee, BAHEP Cares!, Ellington Field Task Force, Team NASA, and Space Center Volunteers accomplish so much on behalf of everyone in the region. Bay Area Houston flourishes because of the dedication of our partners and that of so many others like them. We are all fortunate to call this region home.

Special Honors Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner Honored with Quasar Award The Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership (BAHEP) celebrated a 25-year-old tradition by presenting its Silver Anniversary Quasar Award to Houston’s 62nd mayor, The Honorable Sylvester Turner, on Jan. 26, 2018. The highly-regarded Quasar Award is presented annually to an

individual who has demonstrated sustained and significant leadership in support of the business foundations of the greater Bay Area Houston region. BAHEP President Bob Mitchell remarked that BAHEP named Mayor Turner as the 2018 Quasar Award honoree for his long service to the community and support of the ideals and initiatives of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership. Mitchell reported it was significant that Mayor
