President’s Letter The Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership’s 2021 Annual Report is available on our website and may even be in your hands by now. Part of the introduction states, “Economic development should be defined as efforts that seek to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for a community by creating and/or retaining jobs and supporting or growing incomes and the tax base. Economic development by anyone’s definition must provide a way forward for all members of a community toward a better life for families, for the places they work, and for the schools their children attend.” As you read through this newsletter, you will find that BAHEP’s activities support this definition day-in and day-out. BAHEP’s leadership and partnership with other organizations and institutions have left their imprint across the region. Since 2009, we’ve given our support and voice to a storm surge protection system for the upper Texas Gulf Coast. The Gulf Coast Protection District, created by the 87th Texas Legislature, is a fundamental step toward this goal, and I’m proud to serve on its board as vice president along

Business Assistance Programs BAHEP Launches Healthcare Workforce Assessment The BAHEP Education and Workforce Development Committee recently launched a healthcare workforce assessment. Building on BAHEP’s previous experience with similar assessments in the maritime and aerospace sectors, the hope is to gain a better understanding of the

During the last quarter of 2021, BAHEP worked to increase the pipeline of wellqualified technicians through BayTech, formed several years ago by BAHEP, that has been awarded a Wagner-Peyser grant to offer certified manufacturing technician training to unemployed high school graduates and others as certified aerospace composite technicians and certified aerospace electrical technicians. The skills of these technicians are critical to the expansion of the Houston Spaceport. Speaking of the Houston Spaceport, we’ve been working for a very long time with the Houston Airport System, NASA Johnson Space Center, and the multitude of aerospace and commercial space contractors in the region to ensure that Space City Houston continues its legacy of human space exploration and innovation.
