We Are Delete Blood Cancer DKMS Delete Blood Cancer DKMS is a non-profit organization that connects patients in need of bone marrow transplants with bone marrow donors who can give them second chances at life.
“ Delete Blood Cancer took the time to teach us everything we needed to do and gave us everything we needed to get it done. They were there. We never felt alone. Siloane, mother of Tiffany, transplant recipient
10 Years of Lifesaving
2004 Founded by a family whose own donor search inspired 68,000 people to register in just 1 year.
2007 First Delete Blood Cancer registrant donates bone marrow to a patient.
2009 Our largest drive ever! We registered 2,640 potential donors in one day.
2014 Part of the world’s largest bone marrow donor center; with over 4 million registered donors and more than 41,000 bone marrow collections worldwide.
What We Do Every Day
Thousands of patients fighting leukemia, lymphomas and other blood diseases need bone marrow transplants to survive.
We recruit potential bone marrow donors at registration drives and online to help provide these patients with transplants.
Donors and patients must share the same tissue type called Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) to assure the best transplant outcome.
Registering is quick, easy and fun — individuals fill out a form and swab their cheeks to collect cells used in matching patients with donors.
It takes $65 to process each donor. We rely on gifts from individuals and organizations to cover these costs.
What We Do Every Day
We list our registrants on the U.S. national donor registry where doctors search for matching donors to help their patients.
When one of our donors matches with a patient, we coordinate their travel, lodging, donation procedure, and follow-up care.
We share our patient and donor stories with the world to inspire more people to register!
It Matters
Blood Cancer is the third leading cause of cancer deaths and kills more children in the U.S. than any other disease.
Only 30% of patients find a compatible donor within their family. 70% must search for an unrelated donor on the national registry.
14,000 patients need transplants from perfect strangers. Less than 7,000 will actually get one.
Give
It costs $65 to register every new donor
We rely solely on financial supporters to cover this expense.

Dental Drive Campaign When Michigan dentist Dr. Steven Conlon learned his patient Joe Carter had overcome blood cancer with a bone marrow transplant, he was inspired to register new potential donors to help save more lives. In May 2012, Dr. Conlon partnered with the Michigan Dental Association and Delete Blood Cancer to launch a statewide dental office drive campaign. It was such a success that a second event was held in 2013 and now dental associations across the U.S. are joining us to hold statewide drives.

Stronger Than This Dianne Abang was exercising 7 days a week and running her popular Beverly Hills day spa catering to a huge clientele including several Hollywood A-listers. “I had so much energy, my clients always asked, ‘Whatever you’re on, I want some.’” But that summer she began to experience fatigue that turned out to be the first sign of aplastic anemia. She was in total shock. She says, “I’d never been sick in my life.” Because her bone marrow isn’t producing enough new cells, she needs a bone marrow transplant as soon as possible to survive. Until she finds her match, Dianne endures three transfusions and multiple shots every week. Upon learning of her mother’s diagnosis, Dianne’s daughter Morayo moved back to L.A. from New York City to help with medical care and the search for a matching donor. “I’m her daughter and her caretaker. It’s very emotional, very heavy. I have to be strong for her. But I also know she is stronger than this.” Dianne is originally from Nigeria and is most likely to match with someone who shares her background. However, very few Nigerians and people of Nigerian descent are registered as potential bone marrow donors. Morayo has teamed up with Delete Blood Cancer to host bone marrow registration drives to enhance their search as well as help others. “I tell people, “It’s not just for her. You could save a life and that’s powerful.” Dianne, a patient searching for a donor
