Our second issue is a hotel and resorts special. It aims at promoting the tourism packages and products of Mauritius in a big way. We intend to be the flag bearer for marketing Mauritius as a tourism destination worldwide. This is in view of the fact that much of the resources of the island which can help it to be promoted as one among the very best tourism destinations in the world remain untapped. As you all know a trade body, an association to promote the hotel and tourism sector exists in the island which has the power and responsibility to look into the matters regarding this particular area. The improvement of the service sector should always be updated so that we can provide quality tourism. We should also take care that our resources and services are refreshingly different. What we should be very particular about is to have quality educational institutions so that we can maintain higher level of exposure which in turn will help us provide an employment culture of global standards for the next generation in Mauritius. In order to promote the vast opportunities of this beautiful island and to attract quality tourists the hotels and resorts here should maintain international standards. Marketing strategies should be well thought about and combined so that it will bring out the desired results. The hotel and tourism sector should interact with the government and improve the infrastructural facilities of the island. Such trade bodies should take more interest in similar issues and can definitely do a lot in building up the image of Mauritius as the best in the map of world tourism destinations. The new marketing plan to promote the Indian Ocean islands will certainly prove supportive to the promotion of tourism in Mauritius. Mauritius Tourism News will by all means act as a catalyst in promoting such basic issues in this sector.

What are the steps taken to train the youth for employment in tourism sector? We are training a lot on the informal sector which means we do have people who work as pleasure craft operators, beach hotels, taxi and so forth. Can you elaborate more on the Shopping Fiesta concept? It is a project that will attract regional people because we are doing a campaign which put a lot of emphasis on France, Reunion Island, Seychelles, Madagascar, South Africa and we have notice a visit growth during the last weekend from these types of activities in the low season especially. Almost every week as from now we will have events to attract people. The internet is a drawback as we lack in the virtual communication for marketing and nowadays this is the most effective mode of communication; we consult a lot on the internet about traveling tips and so we have to be more transparent and visible on the internet. For the first time Mauritius has organized such a grandiose festival with such clamor. This has been an initiative of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) in collaboration with Remy Vachet Productions and VIP Event Organiser Limited. The objective for this event is to ring the bell and increase the level of visibility of Mauritius across the world; it is thus a starting point to attract more foreigners in the country. It is a festival which has started from 29th June to the 5th August and up to now it has been a great success to attract tourists especially in this low season. The participation of the beauty queens across the world such as Miss UK 2012, Charlotte Holmes, Miss France, Miss Lebanon, Miss Reunion, Miss Brazil, Miss India and Miss Mauritius 2012 Diya Beeltah and Miss Rodrigues Mureille Ravina were also present to spice up this event. The director of the MTPA also invited tour operators from South Africa with several journalists across the globe to savor the flavors of Mauritius. “With planned activities, we aim at creating a living spirit for the fiesta,” said the MTPA director Karl Mootoosamy. So was the ambiance at the opening of this festival at the Bagatelle Mall since Friday 29th. Mauritians also did not stay aloof from this multicolored event as all the shopping malls offered 20% to 70% discount on 12000 products; be it on jewelleries, designer garments,

Discovered since July 1998, La Vallee des Couleurs is located in the south of the Island. It has in its lap the 23 colored earth which dates back to millions of years; the pride of the volcanic island of Mauritius. In this case it is from the eruption of the Bassin Blanc Volcano. Once exposed to the sun, there is a whole procedure which results in different colored rocks; from dark red, to clear yellow including a variety of shades, and some of these have a black blue metallic reflections. This is the reason why the rocks found at the Nature Park are unique. The Park includes three charming landscaped areas: Nature walk and numerous activities, the Restaurant and the Reception Plaza/Ceremony Area. La Vallee des Couleurs offers you the chance for a memorable adventure in harmony with nature. All around lies tree ferns, wild orchids and native flowers such as Trochetia, and the Bouquet Banane which welcomes you all the way through the nature park with its extending handful bunches of bright colored flowers. This is a scene which can be enjoyed especially in the near end of the year. To complement with the natural beauty of this heavenly abode, tortoises, monkeys, stags, fishes and birds such as the Pink Pigeon, Paille en Queue, Cateau vert among others various endemic trees like the Ebony, Bois de Natte, Takamaka and many more can be found on spot; thus adding to the exceptional atmosphere to fall in love with. The mellow sounds of falling water comes from the 3 wonderful waterfalls; Cascade Vacoas, Cascade Bois de Natte and Cascade Chamouze where visitors are able to taste the freshness of nature. Soothing to the eyes, this is an irresistible view where your feet would instinctively push you towards the water. A dip in these ponds surrounded by exotic jungle plants provides you with a refreshed mind making the way to uphold your soul. Arrangements for strolls are organized. Several activities such as Quad Biking, a full adrenaline pumping Ziplines for a thrilling experience are available for adults as well as a kid’s garden with different games for the children. After these vigorous activities, make yourself comfortable at the restaurant “La Citronelle” located in the greenish mountains where you can enjoy the views of the south coast. The specialty of the cuisine is a contemporary one prepared from the fresh products of the Valley itself. La Vallee des Couleurs reflects the island of Mauritius in its true sense for its different communities and cultural diversity. It’s a perfect site to celebrate your happiness and love among your family as well as built on your day to day exhaustive activities in a single relaxing and unforgettable moment. “The richness I achieve comes from Nature, the source of my inspiration” as said by Claude Monet. So, come and search for yours at the La Vallee des Couleurs. 35
