6 Steps from Home to School The 6 images describes from the moment I heard the clock ring in the dark, washed my face, went downstairs, pressed the elevator button to the moment that I found embarrassedly that it was too late to take my first time one class.

Time 1

60 Steps from Home to School This exercise extends the previous 6 steps into 60 by adding more details and emotional moments with both objective and subjective perspectives. Firstly, I was unwilling to get up, but got scared by the time and rushed to get ready for going to school. On my way, I encountered an old friend but ignored him due to my worry for school. I was sleepy in the elevator, but couldn’t help checking for the time. The sun was amazed by my travelling speed, and the dog was scared by me. Tired and afraid as I was, I got to the empty and cold Innovation Tower, only to receive a phone call from my friend, asking why I was not present. I was totally scared as I open the door of studio, where the first time one class was given by a new tutor‌

The 60 steps might be considered as the Mobius strip, whose ending point is connected to the starting point, representing infinity and endlessness.

6 Steps from Home to School Another version based on the 60 steps considers the composition and the valuable and interesting parts of the narrative. It basically tells that I woke up in a mess, rushed out from home, felt tired and hungry on the MTR, got lost in the elevator, hurried to the studio and felt embarrassed to meet my tutor and classmates for being late. The narration is visualized with a radiate composition to show 6 important moments of among the 60 steps. The wheel gear represents a daily routine as a perpetual cycle that never ends.

3 Steps from Home to School This narration tells the story of my partner based on her oral description. The first image combined 6 steps together, making them happening at the same time. She was brushing teeth, looking at her phone, wearing one shoe and half sock when she rolled down from her bed in a mess, which can be seen from her hair. The second one shows the person’s situation in the real world as well as in her inner world. She was bored waiting the train, but inside she felt enthusiastic and want to dance right there. Her shadow couldn’t lie. The third one shows that she felt like walking on another planet. The environment is not real. However, the planet seems just her imagination.

Because it is not our own story, when we see it from a distance, it’s nothing particular, just like all the ordinary morning stories.

However, the superficial and the inside world might be quite different.

Collage Exercise 1 This exercise is to visualize written news with limited visual resources. The perspective and visual principles will be considered. I make this collage from the perspective of the police, who saw all things happening from a monitor. The girl in red was feeling bad because of the toxic liquid spread on her face. She was thinking about what she had just done. Her neck was badly injured. One the other hand, the criminal was holding a big bottle and spreading some bad liquid. The whole situation is tense and horrible.

Collage Exercise 2 Based on the knowledge of perspective, collage and narration, this exercise shows a series of steps telling the story. The volcano is a metaphor of the inner world of the criminal. The liquid and the girl are red to represent the danger of the situation. The starting and ending point is the same television, but with time already passing away. During the time, the girl, the criminal, the liquid and the volcano all has their own stories but influence each other somehow, coincidentally and inevitably.

The narration is like a perpetual circle, whose ending point meets the starting point. All the steps are connected to each other and influence each other somehow, just like there are invisible strings between them.

Collage Exercise 3 This exercise extends the 9 steps to show more details. It ends at the original starting point and becomes a perpetual circle. It can be felt that time was flowing while the television moved, the girl walked and turned around, the liquid flowed, the criminal squeezed the bottle and the volcano spread out.
