8 p.m. on HISTORY Washington Emmy winner Jeff Daniels, who starred as George Washington in the 2000 TV movie “The Crossing,” narrates this threepart, six-hour miniseries (airing nightly through Tuesday) that brings to life America’s first president by including several lesser known episodes in the life of this founding father.

Tonight’s premiere introduces Washington (portrayed by actor NIcholas Rowe) as an ambitious young officer in the British military who does little to distinguish himself in the field early on. Presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin is among the executive producers.

Jimmie Johnson looks to the future as he begins his final full season in NASCAR By the time Jimmie Johnson hangs up his helmet in November as a full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver, he’ll be 45 and have much life ahead of him. And really, he’s open to just about anything.

Marathon running? Yes. Competing on open-wheel road courses? Of course.

Skiing? Well, he has a house in Colorado so that goes without saying. And he’s not done with NASCAR entirely, either.

Really, the future belongs to the man known as JJ and for that he is excited.

But for the time being his final full Cup season awaits, and that begins Sunday, Feb. 16, when he and 39 other drivers take to the 2 1/2-mile tri-oval of Northern Florida’s Daytona International Speedway in the 2020 Daytona 500, which airs live on Fox. For Johnson, it will be the 19th time he’s run in the “Great American Race,” which he’s won twice, in 2006 and ‘13.

It also represents the beginning of his last chance to win a record eighth Cup title, which would vault him past Richard Petty on the all-time list.

Such an accomplishment would put a nice coda to what is certain to be a Hall of Fame career, but it won’t change Johnson’s mind about retirement.

“I never chased a stat, like that has never been me,” he explains. “I’ve chased the experience, so the experience of winning an eighth, if we were to do so, would be everything but it wouldn’t change my mind-set. You know, I’m

not about statistics and pushing on. I’m about living life to the fullest and trying to have these incredible experiences.”

Indeed, he’s had a few away from the racetrack. Last year, he ran in the Boston Marathon, completing the 26.2-mile course in a little over three hours. He’s also done a few half-marathons, is very much into cycling, mountain biking and skiing and would love to take a crack at driving an Indy car on a street course.

Toward that end, the Southern California native has a specific race in mind.

“I’ve been to that Toyota Long Beach Grand Prix so many years as a kid,” Johnson says. “You know, park my car, park the car with my parents, hear the cars ripping around, cross the pedestrian bridge, the adrenaline flowing through me, thinking, ‘I gotta race here.’ And I told myself as a kid, ‘Some day, you’re going to come here and race.’ Well dammit, I want to go do that.”

And he won’t be done with NASCAR beyond ‘20, either. He’ll run a limited schedule and may even show up for another Daytona 500 or two.

“I really, really do feel like I have a lot of competitive years left ...,” Johnson says. “I had an experience driving a McLaren F1 car last November and it was just mind-blowing – like wow, I want to experience more of this. So I’m kind of chasing a childhood dream in a sense and would love to do that before I hang up my helmet altogether.”

At the heart of the show, of course, are the families’ stories. In Sunday’s opener, viewers are introduced to Jessica, a California single mom and social worker who with her three adoptees and two kids of her own, are forced by circumstance to move into her mother’s far-too-small threebedroom ranch. Needless to say, the result at the end of the hour brings all concerned to tears, including Ferguson.

Get those hankies and tissues ready. ’“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is back.

Premiering Sunday, Feb. 16, on HGTV, this reboot of the 2003-12 ABC series puts Jesse Tyler Ferguson (“Modern Family”) in the hosting chair as designers Breegan Jane, Carrie Locklyn and Darren Keefe, along with scores of volunteers help remake or rebuild the inadequate, decrepit or deteriorating homes of families in need.

Over the course of 10 episodes, they’ll be assisted by guest stars including chef Tyler Florence, actor Anthony Anderson (“black-ish”), choreographer Derek Hough, country artist LeAnn Rimes and the original series’ carpenter Ty Pennington.

And the job will be done in the space of a week, which Ferguson, a fan of the original series, found hard to believe.

“I came into this, you know, a bit jaded having been on television for a while,” he explains, “and having done reality TV before in different formats thinking they don’t really do this in a week. This is impossible. And they really do this in a week, and it’s insane that they actually can do this in a week.

“We work in cooperation with the cities, so a lot of the permits are pushed through,” he continues. “We have a lot of people working behind the scenes trying to make sure that we’re not waiting on anyone. ...

“Shark,” then was featured in multiple episodes of “Bones,” “Necessary Roughness,” “Justified” and “Franklin & Bash.” Her longest television run has come from her current role as Dr. Caitlin Snow – alias Killer Frost – on The CW’s adventure series “The Flash.” Panabaker also has directed two episodes (to date) of the specialeffects-heavy show, and she has made crossover appearances in her “Flash” role on such other DC Comics-inspired series as “Arrow,” “Supergirl” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.”

Panabaker’s movies have included remakes of “Yours, Mine and Ours,” “The Crazies” and “Friday the 13th,” plus “Sky High” and “Mr. Brooks” ... and she earned an award at the 2014 London Independent Film Festival for her acting in the sci-fi tale “Time Lapse.” She also has appeared in such cable movies as “Nearlyweds” and “Christmas Joy,” and among her stage projects have been “West Side Story” and “Pippin.”

A volunteer for such organizations as the USO, UNICEF and Young Storytellers, Panabaker married Hayes Robbins in June 2017. Their first child is due this spring.

Danielle Nicole Panabaker was born on Sept. 19, 1987, in Augusta, Ga. Her younger sister Kay also was an actress but now works as a zoologist.

Though their salesman father’s job kept the siblings frequently on the move with their parents, Danielle had the time to discover her yen for acting while attending a summer camp.

Graduating early from an Illinois high school – where she was on the speech team – Panabaker moved to Los Angeles with her sister and mother to pursue acting. She took related classes at Glendale Community College, then spent her senior year at the University of California, Los Angeles (making the Dean’s List at both schools).

After doing commercials, Panabaker had early television roles on such shows as “Malcolm in the Middle,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and her sister Kay’s “Summerland.”

Danielle has cited the HBO miniseries “Empire Falls” as an especially significant project for her, giving her the impetus to keep moving forward with her career.

How would you characterize Muhammad Ali’s relationship with his heavyweight rival Joe Frazier?

With the series finale of “Criminal Minds” on the immediate horizon, and your having filmed it a while ago, are you looking forward to seeing how it turned out?

I think down deep, they liked and certainly admired each other’s skills and talent. But when I had them both on the show, he was showman enough to make it both funny and apparently genuine anger at times. Frazier didn’t have the great life that Ali did. He was a wonderful fighter. There probably was some jealousy there.

And a couple of moments actually frightened some people who were watching when they were both sitting there with me. ... Fortunately, it didn’t burst out. Another point it might have if some people were looking for trouble, was when Ali suddenly said, “Let’s be friends for a moment” to Frazier, “and get him.” And they both got up and lifted me up several feet off the ground and squeezed me between them.

I think I will be as entertained and affected by it almost as much as anybody else, since it’s been a while since we did it. I’ll be reliving it myself.

Do you like where your character, David Rossi, ends up?

Yeah, I do. I feel good about all of it. There are choices to be made when you do something like this.

You might say, “It could have gone this way or it could have gone that way,” but at the end of the day, I have nothing but respect for our writing staff. I’m a firm believer that if it ain’t on the page, it ain’t on the stage, and that’s the way it works.

You typically also have directed an episode or two per “Criminal Minds” season, but not on the last one. Why was that?

I think they had broken it down a certain way, but that was fine, because we all had a lot to carry in Season 15 (in acting terms) ... and me in particular. I probably had more than I would normally have, because much of it revolved around the character the Chameleon, who was Rossi’s personal nemesis.

This was very much an ensemble show, which is what I attribute much of its success to, but Rossi was pretty involved in these last episodes – so my not having to direct was OK.

I think you just (laughs) hope you’re not going to make it worse. Try to be amusing if you can.

Treat it lightly even if you don’t feel that. I’ve had times when I could have gotten a good fight going with certain guests but mostly didn’t but did a few times.

I didn’t make (one-time Georgia Governor) Lester Maddox very happy ... . He said, “Well, you called all the people in my state bigots.” And I said, “No, I didn’t, Governor.” And he said, “You’re gonna have to apologize. You did and you’re gonna have to apologize.” And I said, “Well, alright.” Luckily, I was able to think of something to say. “OK, if I called anyone a bigot who isn’t a bigot, I apologize.” Well, Lester seized on that to haul ass, as they say in show business (laughs). It got a hand, which also annoyed him, I’m sure.

I’ve been a single mom for six years and when my son was around 3, I got home after working all day and I’m sitting on the couch eating Cheez-Its or Goldfish, whatever it was, and he looks up at me on the floor and asks me to play with him, and I looked at him and I tell him, “No!” And something in me just thought ... “Wow, I brought this kid into the world. He did not ask to be here. And I can’t even do something as simple as have energy to get up off the couch.”

‘Outlander’ star Sam Heughan joins the whiskey business with The Sassenach Sam Heughan is serious about whiskey. So is his “Outlander” character, Jamie Fraser.

Indeed, the 39-year-old Scottish actor has a love for his country’s national drink that dates back to his teens and later in drama school. After graduation, a large dram of Speyside got him through many a lonely night while away from home working in London.

These days Heughan, a member of The Scottish Malt Whisky Society, is involved in the launch of his own brand of blended whiskey, The Sassenach – a Gaelic word meaning “the foreigner” and also a reference to the pet name Scotsman Jamie has for his English spouse, Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe). The whole project has been a labor of love for the star of the Sunday Starz time-travel/historical drama, one that he attributes to his heritage.

“I love whiskey and it always reminds me of home,” Heughan explains. “Whenever I go somewhere else, I’m drinking whiskey and that’s what I wanted to do with our whiskey – is like wherever you go in the world, wherever you are, pour yourself a glass of The Sassenach and it takes you home.

“And it’s a blended whiskey, which is kind of rare,” he adds. “A lot of the Asian whiskeys that are very popular right now,

they’re blends. A lot of Scottish whiskey I find is kind of old school and I was like, ‘You know what? We can modernize it.’ And I think hopefully with our blend, people are going to really enjoy it. It’s going to be accessible as well.”

Heughan’s character in “Outlander” also has experience in the whiskey business, first as a bootlegger in the 17th century Scottish Highlands and later as a moonshiner in North Carolina.

But this is no moonshine. In The Sassenach, Heughan – through his Great Glen Company – endeavored to create what he considers “the perfect whiskey blend,” one that pleases his palate and, he hopes, that of others.

He thinks Jamie would be happy with the final product.

“It’s been a long process and (we) have come up against many challenges,” he says. “That’s why we kept having to move the goalposts when we wanted to have it finished by.”

“I wanted to create my own thing,” he continues, “and so it’s self-financed, we’ve designed it ourselves. It was a great company to help us with that process from start to end, really. ... And we have an amazing whiskey that we’re really proud of ... . So yeah, I’m really excited.”
