In 1925, The Grand National Assembly of Turkey wanted to give medals to people who was defender of the city. And they asked to governor of the city: "Who did defend the city?" The governor of the city replied them: "All people in the city; men, women, child, old people. Everyone in the city."
Kahramanmaraş And then, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) gave Independence Medal to city for all people in the city. All people in Kahramanmaraş was a hero. They saved the city without Until 1973, The army. city’s name was ‘Maraş’. In 1973 October, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) added ‘Kahraman’ to the city’s name.
