OUR HOMETOWN In ancient mythology, Romulus and his twin brother Remus were the founders of the city of Rome. They were the children of Rhea Silvia and Mars and their story is recorded by many authors including Virgil. Romulus and Remus were the direct descendants of Aeneas, whose fate-driven adventures to discover Italy are described by Virgil in The Aeneid. They were related to Aeneas through their mother's father, Numitor. He was the king of Alba Longa, an ancient city of Latium, in central Italy, and father to Rhea Silvia, a Vestal Virgin. She was discovered to be pregnant and gave birth to her sons, that were placed into a basket onto the River Tiber, to be carried to safety. They were first discovered by a she-wolf or lupa, who suckled them. Eventually, they were helped by a shepherd and his wife.

OUR HOMETOWN When Romulus was raised, he began to dig trenches and to build walls around his hill: The Palatine Hill. In response to Romulus' construction, Remus made continuous fun of the wall and his brother's city. In response to Remus' mockeries and for jumping over his wall, Romulus killed his brother. Remus' death and founding of Rome are dated to April 21st, 753 BC.

Romulus named his city Roma.

OUR HOMETOWN Rome became the most powerful city and centre of the Roman Empire and the whole Mediterranean sea and beyond. This is the reason why is said to be “caput mundi”. During the Empire and all Rome’s history a lot of monuments, churches, buildings and places were built and still remind us of its powerful past. Today we can still admire most of them such as: Colosseum, the Roman Forum, St. Peter’s church, Circo Massimo, Bernini’s and Borromini’s fountains, Piazza Navona, Piazza Venezia, Trinita dei Monti and the Spanish Steps, Michelangelo’s masterpieces and many more.

ROME, A MULTICULTURAL CITY Rome is a multicultural city. Lots of people from different countries choose Rome as their city to live. That means that interesting differences and cultures can be found in most of the places in our city to be experienced. Latium is confirmed as the second Italian region with the greatest number of foreigners in Italy. Rome is the first district with highest immigration. Food, cinema, festivals and markets are commonly an heritage that is lively and attracts roman people. Surroundings of our school are a typical example of this multicultural environment. One of the most important heritage from the past is the Jewish Ghetto, near Isola Tiberina which is considered the most ancient of the western world.

It is an hidden gem between the River Tiber and Venice Square, It was Pope Paul IV who ordered its construction in 1555 by revoking all rights granted to the Roman Jews.

ROME, A MULTICULTURAL CITY The Mosque of Rome is the largest mosque outside the Islamic world, Russia or India. Being the Western world's biggest mosque, it is the seat of the Italian Islamic Cultural Centre. In addition to being a meeting place for religious activities, it provides cultural and social services variously connecting Muslims together. It also holds teachings, wedding ceremonies, funeral services, exegesis, exhibitions, conventions, and other essential events. Apart from is being a multicultural city, Rome is well known for its ÂŤway of lifeÂť. Roman people are well known for being friendly, welcoming, sociable and smiling and the whole city has a magical atmosphere that puts a spell on every tourist visiting. Weather contributes too. Lots of things to visit and art masterpieces allow people to fall in love with our town.

TORPIGNATTARA, A MULTICULTURAL NEIGHBORHOOD Although the oldest buildings in the neighborhood appear to date from about 1900, Torpignattara's architectural plant is also sustained by a number of structures built, like an old theatre, in the 1930s, and datable by dates on the buildings sometimes presented in the Fascist system, which starts with 1922, the year of the March on Rome. Some of these buildings could use plastering and a coat of paint, but others have been nicely redone. The school at the corner of via dell' Acqua Bullicante and via Policastro has the solid, decent design of Fascist-era rationalist architecture.

Fifth municipality, where our school is, has more than 40.000 foreigners living, that means 16,4% of all Rome. In our school people from countries of origin can be found.

TORPIGNATTARA, A MULTICULTURAL NEIGHBORHOOD At the third mile of the ancient via Labicana, which corresponds to today's via Casilina in Rome, is situated the ancient Roman site "ad duas lauros", or "at the two laurels", named for the shrubs traditionally present at the emperors' estates. Excavated below this location between the 3rd and 5th centuries CE, the Catacombs of the SS. Marcellino and Pietro house many tombs of very rich Christians who have left us wonderful frescoes recently restored to their original splendor through laser technology. The Wunderkammern association was responsible for bringing international urban artists involved in creating highvalue cultural and artistic works on the walls of the suburb during January and February 2015. Leading contemporary artists thus become the principal agents in an urban renewal process, which also has social and cultural connotations, benefiting first and foremost the local community.
