According to nonvegetarians, this section contains the choice, the prime. To the French, these books are the corps d’elite, the crème de la crème. The Brits would label them as top shelf or upper crust. Whatever you call them, take a look at these books to get some coverage or theme ideas or design inspiration.

The dot on the lowercase “i” punctuates “BEGIN,” underscoring the incongruity of the theme “Begin Again.” The shape of the white area behind the bear becomes a unifying thematic device used throughout the book. The staff skillfully varies how the shape is used from spread to spread. The content of the spreads dictates the design.

Having a theme with the word “clear” in it was important to the yearbook staff’s development of it. After introducing “Clearly Central” on the cover, The Pix staff clarifies misconceptions about the school year throughout the book. A rich color palette, introduced on the endsheets, is repeated on theme pages then applied to spreads in headlines and graphic elements.

SHOW STOPPERS

On Broadway, an act so striking or impressive that the show must be delayed until the audience quiets down is a showstopper. In a yearbook, a showstopper has content and design so arresting that the reader pauses to take a closer look. Take a few minutes and look at these showstopping spreads.

GOMEZ MAKES HISTORY BY SURPASSING 100 GOALS, ONLY 30 SHY OF HER PERSONAL GOAL NO player in team history of the girls soccer program has scored 100 goals, until now. Some goals, however, have had more significance than others. “On Dripping Springs senior night my freshman year, I scored the lone goal of the game to beat them,” Gomez said. “Then later that year I also scored the goal to send us through to the second round of playoffs.” In an attempt to stay consistant with what she has achieved so far, Gomez hopes to finish her McCallum career with 130 goals.
