Circular Shapes and Bold Gradients

This school maximized and repeated their theme of ‘Ripple Effect’ throughout the book by bringing in concentric circles as a visual element. The icon is repeated and used in different ways, adding interest and variety, but unifying the entire book.

NOTEWORTHY : The pops of purple in the title and quotes tie in the purple in the photos.

NOTEWORTHY : The subtle ripple in the photo creates a frame for the subject of the photo.

NOTEWORTHY : This variant of the ripple shape brings attention to the main photo, and the gradient in the title uses colors from the photos, unifying the spread.

Movement with Brush Strokes

This school’s use of bold color and typography adds a fun energy to the book.

Minimalist and unique spreads come to life with color pops and brush stroke texture, adding interest and movement throughout the well designed book.

NOTEWORTHY : The diagonal direction of this spreads is unexpected and makes the content even more fun.

NOTEWORTHY : The typography and the arrows create movement in the negative space.

NOTEWORTHY : The pops of color draw your eye around the page.

NOTEWORTHY : The brush strokes add color and interest to a page that otherwise might have been repetitive.

When a book is a page-turner, it’s so interesting that it’s di cult to put down. As a rule, yearbooks are page turners. Then what makes the reader stop turning pages? A spread so di erent - in content and design - that is screams “LOOK AT ME!”

Take some time to look at these showstopper spreads.

KaleighCain,

You have hundreds if not thousands of images on your phone. Most of them are quickly taken shots, because a quick photo is better than no photo at all. Photojournalism is di erent because the photographer seeks out photos to tell a story.

Capturing a story in an image involves planning, patience, intuition, creativity, confidence and curiosity.

The visual area at the back of your brain comprises 30% of your cortex. As a visually oriented person, you are wired to judge a book by its cover. It not only attracts your attention, but it also creates expectations about what’s inside.

It’s honorable to be among the books chosen here. Chosen for their commitment to recording the history of their schools & memories of the year, the books created by these yearbook sta s are time capsules. Using photographs and text, the yearbooks recreate the year. Decades from now, students and sta will be able to revisit the moments and look back fondly.
