PROVIDENCE COLLEGE TRADITION Dear Providence College Class of 2023, It’s our tradition! It’s your time! On behalf of the Class of 2023, we are excited to present the Official Providence College Ring Collection. Your ring will celebrate lasting traditions that define what it means to be a member of the Providence College Friar Family. Your lifetime connection began the moment you walked onto the PC campus. Now you are invited to join the ranks of Providence College graduates by becoming part of the Providence College ring tradition. Available to students and alumni exclusively, the Official Providence College Ring Collection is part of the College’s unique culture, embodying the shared experience of our class and generations of past and future alumni. It forever bonds us who wear it in tradition and fortitude as a symbol and honor of our accomplishments. Once you graduate, your Providence College ring outwardly displays your Friar spirit that can open doors in connecting you to alumni everywhere. We hope that your ring will be reminiscent of the many memories made over the years at PC. But most importantly, it reflects you and your achievement. The Official Ring Collection is a time-honored tradition commemorating Providence College’s history, stories, and symbols that are universally relevant to our fellow Friars. On behalf of the Senior Ring Weekend Core representing the Class of 2023, we are excited to reveal and offer our class ring collection, share this tradition with you, and celebrate all the time we have spent together. Students who order their Official Providence College Ring are eligible to participate in the inspiring and unique Ring Mass during Senior Ring Weekend. OFFICIAL RING ANATOMY Harkins Harkins Hall, which was founded in 1917 by Dominican friars with Bishop Matthew Harkins of Providence, marks the beginning of Providence College. Harkins Hall has a lovely architecture on the outside that will always remind us of where PC began. It was appropriate to incorporate the most iconic and historic structure on campus in the ring design.
Class Side
Violets The blue violets represent the state flower of Rhode Island. These flowers bloom in early spring and stop blooming in summer, mimicking the departure of our graduating students as they finish their last days of college.
Gate The gate represents the first visual new students see when arriving to campus and the last thing they view as they leave. The gates symbolizes the beginning and ending of another chapter of life. Newly graduated students close the gates of Friartown and open the gates of their future.
Friar head Our mascot, the Friar, is shown in this contemporary logo, which proudly symbolizes our institution and Division I sporting teams. The Friar head brings together former Friars’ legacies with the future of the PC’s strong athletic programs, instilling unmatched pride in students and alumni.
Flame One of the most recognizable features on campus is the flame. It was completed in 2017, the centenary year, and represents Providence College’s motto, Veritas, which means “truth.” The flame depicts how PC acts as a beacon, guiding us to truth.
College Side B.S. / B.A. These letters represent the type of degree that a Providence College student will earn after their years: Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science.
Flame Represents the Class of 2023 as the 105th graduating class from Providence College as we continue in our search for truth.
Veritas The Providence College motto, meaning “truth.”
1917 In honor of the year that Providence College was founded.
The Stone
The Onyx Stone The black onyx is a traditional aspect of class rings, but it also represents one of Providence College’s school colors.
Moon Phase The moon phase on this side of the ring is the Waning Gibbous phase from the first day of freshman orientation, August 22, 2019. This moon shows the phase that was over our heads as our journey together began.
Providence City Skyline The Providence city skyline shows the students’ connection with the city of Providence. This skyline is the one seen on the walk from upper to lower campus.
Rosary The rosary beads surrounding the Veritas shield signify the religious influence on campus as a part of both the spiritual and academic growth for many students.
On behalf of the Class of 2023, we are excited to share important information regarding the ring tradition at Providence College. We are among a small group of schools that maintains the rich tradition of personally designing our own class ring. Our class is eager to join this tradition. The ring design contains elements that span our entire tradition as well as elements that are unique to the experiences of our class. The ring serves as a symbol to connect our class not only with each other but also with our broad network of Providence College alumni around the world.
