As the 2023 President of the Escambia County Medical Society, I am pleased to announce the 150th anniversary of our organization. Our members take great pride in serving our community and we all look forward to continuing to do so for many years to come.

In honor of this special milestone, I invite you to join us in celebrating the long-standing history of the ECMS. We are committed to continuing our tradition of excellence in healthcare delivery and advocacy for the well-being of our patients.

I would also like to remind you of the value of this, the 13th edition of the Escambia County Medical Society Membership Directory. This directory serves as a valuable resource to your practice as it lists our members’ specialties, NPI numbers, and practice contact information. It is an essential tool to help you connect with other members of our society and enhance your professional network.

As an active member of ECMS, you are welcome to attend our many networking and educational meetings. ECMS has a strong representation at the Florida Medical Association’s Annual Meeting by sending representatives to the House of Delegates each year. We encourage new and existing members to apply to become a delegate or draft a resolution that we can take to the House of Delegates.

Escambia County Medical Society (E.C.M.S.)

The Escambia County Medical Society in conjunction with Santa Rosa County [E.C.M.S.] is a local professional association of medical doctors and doctors of osteopathy (M.D.’s & D.O.’s), that addresses political, social, and economic issues concerning the level and delivery of healthcare for patients and physicians. Started in 1873, the non-profit E.C.M.S. represents over 400 physicians living or working in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties of Northwest Florida.

Mission:

The mission of the Escambia County Medical Society is to advance physicians’ practice of medicine in our community.

Vision:

Tradition – Honoring the history of medical care in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Service – Serving the needs of our community through the service of our members in the practice of medicine.

Leadership – Meeting the challenges of the future and safeguarding our community’s health through organized collaboration on the local, state, and national level.

Functioning as the Champions of Healthcare by:

• Nurturing all physicians to seek self-improvement, leadership abilities, and volunteer opportunities within our community and state;

• Serving as advocates for patients by encouraging physicians to pursue high standards in medical care, education, and ethics;

E.C.M.S. Foundation

The ECMS Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Escambia County Medical Society. A organization dedicated to providing healthcare services to the elderly, uninsured, and economically disadvantaged citizens of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. ECMSF was founded in 1994 as a 501c3 non-profit organization.

The Foundation Goals:

• To help assure access to healthcare for the medically needy citizens of the county.

• To be at the forefront of public health principles and practices.

• To meet the needs of patients and physicians of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties.

Our current programs and projects are:

• Escambia County We Care.

• Go Seniors Program.

• Blood Pressure Cuff Program.

• FSU Medical Student Scholarships.

• Pensacola State College Endowment.

• Physician Wellness Program.

• Strength Management And Resiliency Training (S.M.A.R.T.)

The charitable works of our foundation are made possible by physician contributions financially and through time and skill.

1. We Care Program: dedicated to helping the indigent and uninsured patients access care. This is only achievable because of our member physicians who generously donate their time and skill. Please consider joining this effort.

2. Go Seniors Program: dedicated to helping the elderly poor see their doctor on a regular basis by covering transportation expenses. Additionally we have expanded this program to meet the current needs of patients during the COVID-19 pandemic by enabling patients to use the voucher transportation program to get their vaccines.

3. Blood Pressure Cuff Program: dedicated to helping patients monitor their blood pressure at home by providing free blood pressure cuffs.

4. FSU Medical Student Scholarships: is an endowment made in conjunction with the Pensacola regional campus. Medical students are presented scholarships and hopefully this will emphasize the need for our area, and some will come back here to practice after all of their training. An initial $100,000.00 contribution was made through the Foundation to create it, and it has continuously grown. Various fundraisers have helped to sustain it.

5. Pensacola State College Endowment: dedicated to funding scholarships of students attending Pensacola State College who are interested in health-related fields of study.

6. Physician Wellness Program:

“Helping healers heal”: dedicated to helping our physician colleagues who may be suffering personal and professional angst. Member physicians may access three private sessions with a highly skilled psychologist.

7. S.M.A.R.T. Program:

Dedicated to Stress Management and Resiliency Training. Our physician instructor is Dr. Rohit Amin who will teach a 90 minute class each week over nine weeks.

Additionally, the ECMS Foundation has participated in other varied endeavors. It has provided awards to local science fair winners, money for public service billboards, and enabled a project to bridge the gap between hospital and home care.

In 2017 the ECMS Foundation created the 1873 Society, a society to raise awareness and fundraise for our projects. Donors who donate $3,000 or more are recognized at all society meetings, with names engraved on a special plaque.

ADAP assists uninsured and underinsured individuals living with HIV/AIDS in obtaining access to life-saving medications. Participants must meet eligibility requirements, have at least one prescription for a medication on the ADAP formulary, and have viral load and CD4 test results no more than six (6) months old. Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer

The Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (FBCCEDP) promotes early detection through connecting at-risk populations to resources for screening and treatment. The program targets women 50 to 64 years of age without Medicaid or insurance who live in Florida. Call for more information.

HIV Prevention – Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Services

Screens candidates and coordinates treatments to prevent HIV infections in Escambia County residents who are at high-risk for exposure, or have been exposed, to HIV.

Immunizations

FDOH-Escambia offers immunizations for children and adults. All childhood and adolescent immunizations are offered in accordance with the Bureau of Immunizations Schedule and the Florida School Guidelines. No-cost vaccinations are available to eligible children from six weeks through 18 years of age. Clients who are 19 years old and older may qualify for the Adult Vaccine Program that offers a certain vaccines for $18 each. A separate fee schedule exists for adults who do not meet the eligibility requirements for the Adult Vaccine Program. Call for a same-day appointment.

Required every third biennium – Included in the 38 general CME Requirements for First

• Medical Doctors renewing a license for the first time are exempt from the general continuing medical education requirements and are only required to complete 2 hours of Medical Errors and a 1 hour AMA Category I, HIV/AIDS course

• Courses approved by any state or federal government agency or nationally affiliated professional association or any provider of Category I American Medical Association Continuing Medical Education;

• Any post graduate training program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education;

• The following specialty training: American College of Emergency Physicians, Cat I; American Academy of Family Physicians prescribed credit; American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists cognates; and study courses required by those specialty certification boards approved by the Board for the purpose of sitting for specialty recertification examinations Other Methods of Obtaining

• 5 hours for attending a regular meeting of the Board of Medicine

• Up to 15 for serving as a volunteer expert witness

• 5 hours for a current Board Member serving on a Probable Cause Panel of the Board of Medicine

• 6 hours for serving as a supervising physician

• 3 hours for serving as a monitoring physician
