CHIEFS VS. RAVENS VS. QB Lamar Jackson

M&T BANK GAME PREVIEW

QUOTH THE RAVEN “We always try to preach it on defense: Try to get turnovers and try to score with it. We have those as two of our goals. So, it was good that L.J. [Fort] was able to score [last week at Houston] – to get our first defensive touchdown of the season. That was really good for the team." – CB Marlon Humphrey on creating turnovers

It’s an AFC primetime showdown between two undefeated teams when the Baltimore Ravens (2-0) host the Kansas City Chiefs (2-0) on Monday Night Football. Baltimore is coming off a 33-16 victory at Houston, while Kansas City secured a 23-20 OT win at the LA Chargers. Dating back to 2019, the Ravens have won 14-straight regular season games. Not since Carolina (18-straight during the 2014-15 seasons) has an NFL team won as many regular season contests in a row. The Chiefs have won eightstraight regular season games, and when including playoffs, have earned victories in 11-consecutive contests. In the Week 2 win at Houston, Baltimore’s defense produced 2 takeaways (1 INT by CB Marcus Peters & 1 FR-TD by ILB L.J. Fort) and registered 4 sacks. (The “D” also tallied 13 QB hits, limiting Houston’s offense to 304 total yards.) The Ravens piled up 407 yards of offense, including 230 on the ground. QB Lamar Jackson was 18-of24 for 204 yards, 1 TD and 0 INTs. The Ravens had nearly four players each rush for at least 50 yards: RB Gus Edwards (73), RB Mark Ingram II (55, including a 30-yard TD on fourth-and-1 to seal the game), Jackson (54) and RB J.K. Dobbins (48). The Chiefs own a 6-3 regular season series lead vs. Baltimore, last winning a 33-28 thriller at Arrowhead in September of 2019. Dating back to 2015, when Kansas City last visited Baltimore, the Chiefs have won three-

JONATHAN OGDEN: THE GOLDEN STANDARD

After 25 Years, the Legacy of the Ravens’ First-Ever Draft Choice Still Shines Brightly B Y P AT R I C K G L E A S O N

Jonathan Ogden is a pillar of the Baltimore Ravens’ franchise. A master technician, the 6-9, 345-pound mountain of a man combined superior athletic ability, tremendous footwork, outstanding knowledge of the game and a fierce competitive zeal to become the most dominant offensive tackle of his era. A nine-time All-Pro who also earned 11-consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl, Ogden set not only a new benchmark for offensive line play, but more importantly, an expectation of what it means to “Play Like a Raven.” Toughness. Accountability. Commitment. Strength. Smarts. Discipline. Desire. These are the qualities for which Ogden was known. And 25 years after he first strapped on his pads in Charm City, they remain the standards to which every Raven is held. “In my 40 years as a player, coach and evaluator, no one played his position better than Jonathan,” stated executive vice president Ozzie Newsome, who tabbed “J.O.” with the Ravens’ first-ever draft choice in their inaugural 1996 season. “When

you start a franchise, your foundation better be sturdy. Jonathan certainly was a key to our first steps. He’s a rock that we built on.” If asked to describe Ogden’s career by using one color, fittingly, most people would choose purple, which “J.O.” donned each week during his 12 NFL seasons. But perhaps a more accurate choice would be gold – as in the jacket he received upon entering the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a first-ballot selection in 2013.

there would be no one to play him. There’s only one ‘J.O.’” Indeed, there truly is only one “J.O.” – a guiding force who, from Day One, helped chart the course for what has become one of the most successful and respected franchises in pro sports. As owner Steve Bisciotti succinctly stated: “Jonathan represents the best of the Ravens, the best of Baltimore and the best in the NFL.”

“When people ask me about my career, I’ll tell them about how I played with a Hall of Fame left tackle,” recalled Ray Lewis, the franchise’s second-ever draft pick, who produced a “golden” standard of his own. “We all touched glory with him as a teammate, and he helped us touch glory with the [2000] Super Bowl.” Continued Lewis: “Oh my, those skills he had, those long arms on that huge frame, the fastest feet – a lot of times he was faster than our running backs. He is a oncein-a-lifetime player, but he’s also a humble man willing to help others. If they made a movie about him,

BALTIMORE RAVENS SOCIAL JUSTICE EFFORTS The Baltimore Ravens have a longstanding commitment to social justice reform. In 2018, the Ravens launched a partnership with Up2Us Sports to enable the organization to hire, train and support sports coaches to become life mentors for youth living in low-income communities. In 2018 and 2019, the Ravens facilitated "Gameday Conversations" with local nonprofit 'Thread' to discuss opportunities to bridge divides and unify as a society regardless of age, race, religion or class.

IN OUR COMMUNITY

On June 1, a week after the death of George Floyd, the Ravens donated $1 million to support 28 Baltimore-area nonprofits. Over the past several years, the Ravens have donated more than $3.2

million to local organizations that are commited to supporting change in our Baltimore community. Ravens players and executives have also facilitated discussions with several politicians including Maryland U.S. Senator Ben Cardin, and the late Congressman Elijah Cummings. In the past months, Ravens players, coaches and staff met with owner Steve Bisciotti to discuss social justice reform and how the team plans to fight racism and injustice. This past summer, the Ravens declared Juneteenth a national holiday within the organization and created a diversity, equity and inclusion book club led by former Ravens WR Torrey Smith and his wife, Chanel.
