we love working with artists from all around the world, and designer and illustrator maddy nye is one of them! based in minneapolis, minnesota, maddy has worked on a lot of our surface design, including outdoor fun‌ and one of the new ban.do exclusive agenda covers!

maddy nye is a lover of the mar velous, offbeat, and wild. we’re 100% sure they love her right back. maddy designs a really adorable stationery collection called yours madly that you should totally c heck out. oh, and her hair is the most perfect shade of red. we c hatted with maddy about what it’s like to work with ban.do, her creative process, and why she loves being an artist. so maddy , how did yo u and ban . do meet ?
jen invited me to contribute to last year’s agenda, and as a longtime fan i had to say “yes please!” i’ve been lucky to work on a bunc h of stuff since then. tell us a little bit abo ut how yo u co llabo rate w ith ban . do !
based on a bit of creative direction, i put forth a variety of sketc hes and see whic h ideas stick, and we refine from there. i draw a lot of custom type treatments and alphabets! yo u ’ ve als o created several o f o ur new agenda covers ! co uld yo u talk abo ut a favo r ite cover o f yo urs that yo u did and what yo u love abo ut it ?
my favorite covers to work on were the abstract versions — it’s very primal to focus on shapes and composition and the results feel novel and edgy.

i’m into the spirit and wordplay of both openers. “here comes the fun” (august 2016’s opener) needed to be paired with an overzealous tropical treat, and i went with a collage vibe for “yes is more” (may 2017’s opener), whic h is suc h a good mantra. what ’ s yo ur favo rite thing abo ut being a des igner / illustrato r ?
my favorite thing is getting to create and collaborate on things that bring people happiness. what do yo u love abo ut ban . do ?
i love that ban.do is flamboyant and optimistic, and is run by women who are all bosses and super sweethearts.
