JAY PARK’S NEW BREED SHOWCASE LIVE IN KOTA KINABALU
Korean-American recording artist, dancer, rapper, music producer, b-boy, songwriter, composer and actor, Jay Park was recently in Kota Kinabalu for a live showcase of his first Korean studio-album, New Breed, last May 12th. Although Jay Park had already gained recognition and a solid fanbase in Korea due to his former membership in JYP Entertainment‘s popular male group 2PM, as well as his first Korean minialbum, Take A Deeper Look, which was released on April 27th last year, it is his music - a unique fusion of American R&B and K-Pop that sets him apart from fellow Korean K-Pop stars. Jay Park’s affinity for hip hop and R&B shines through his live performance that night, crooning and rapping to danceable beats while moving rhythmically to his music and screaming fans. Park also entertained five lucky fans who were selected to show him their dance moves on stage, motivating them to give it their best shot and to believe in themselves. He later presented all five of them an exclusive gift set.

Very much in his elements during the showcase, Park went all out with his performance, ending the night with impressive break-dance moves and later attended a meet and greet, and an autograph session, signing hundreds of CDs and chatted with his fans. The showcase was indeed a spectacular performace by Park and his dancers.

Hyatt Regency Kinabalu Corporate Appreciation Party 2012
Hyatt Regency Kinabalu once again organised its annual appreciation party last Friday, May 11th, for its top corporate clients and media fraternity. In conjuction with the upcoming Olympics in London the theme was appropriately named Hyatt Olympic Games. The event, which was attended by some 180 people from the hotel’s government, travel agents and media sector donned their best sports jerseys and were treated with delicious spread of dishes served from live food stations and later participated in Olympic oriented mini games javelin, basketball, lawn ball, archery and shooting, which entitled guests to earn redeemable points. Guests won great prizes which included electrical goods, food and beverage vouchers as well as complimentary stays at the hotel. A relay event was also held throughout the evening where volunteers from the floor participate in an eating competition consuming specially devised menus prepared in advance. Hyatt Regency Kinabalu’s newly appointed general manager, Arifin Darmawan was very pleased with overwhelming support shown by all the sectors present at that night.

LIVE SHOWCASE IN KOTA KINABALU
P
ixie Lott has had an amazing year and after a number one debut album and seven top twenty tracks, Pixie Lott has recently released her second studio album, Young Happy Foolish. The album sees Lott working alongside previous collaborators - Mads Hauge, Phil Thornalley, Toby Gad, Steve Kipner and Andrew Frampton - in addition to production from Tim Powell, The Matrix and Rusko, among others as well as collaborations with Stevie Wonder and John Legend. Since its release November last year, Young Foolish Happy was met with mixed reviews from music critics; while some reviewers found the album solid, others cited it as short of originality and stylized in a mimetic pattern. Last May 28th, the 21-year-old Essex lass sashayed across the stage and made a display of fun energy, showing off her diverse and great vocal talents. She was accompanied by Mr Roger Wang during her acoustic set and her rendition of Use Somebody by Kings Of Leon was beautifully sung. While she was in KK, Pixie donned the Kadazan-Dusun costume and learned the magunatip traditional dance. During our short interview with Pixie, whose real name is Victoria Louise, she shared that she was given the nickname Pixie when she was a little girl by her family members due to her dainty figure. Pixie also cited that she has great liking for sweet-tasting foods and that she loves the jackfruit (nangka) and hinted that she might visit Kota Kinabalu again sometime in the future at the end of her showcase.

t has been a brilliant first half of 2012 for Kota Kinabalu - Tour of Borneo, Crafts Exotica, World Museum Day, Sabah Fest - so many events took place all over the city in the past few months and of course, there are tons more to come to wrap up the year with good memories for us to reminisce in the following year. We bid our goodbyes to the month of May with a few major highlights and two mini concerts by Jay Park and Pixie Lott. This issue, we want to know what was the best concert/gig you’ve ever been to, and who you’d like to see hold a concert in KK.

A defining characteristic of Appy’s live performance, aside from his gentle yet powerful crooning, is the sense of togetherness - he sang his heart out, all the while keeping a solid contact with the audience with light conversations and funny one liners. Appy projected (not only during the EP launch, but on a daily basis) a distinctive quality fellow artistes need to learn - he was humble about his stature as one of the budding artistes and was not one to forget to have fun while performing live. Party Play also proved to be a great host, appropriately presenting and catering to Appy’s live set - set in a relaxed environment, the day’s tense softened by the dimmed light, with plenty of room to be merry and a sharp and cheery crew on duty.

Having already scored a weekly live gig at Party Play, regulars have long developed a sense of camaraderie and a great appreciation for his talent. But it didn’t take long to convince newer audience to love and sing along to every word he sang that night. Heck, the crowd didn’t miss a beat once the curtain rose!
15
Appy started things off with a few cover songs before serving the audience with ‘Aku Dan Love’, the first track on Happy Thoughts - his set followed the EP consecutively with popular covers thrown in here and there, giving a great feel for the flow of things. Appy’s live performace that night was evidence of his beautiful vocal repertoire. Light hearted by default, his sense of humor compliments his pleasingly mellow songs, which are instantly appealing and memorable - all of which made for a great party and good combo for a budding jazz singer.

oaking wet from the heavy rain during last year’s Christmas Gaya Street Carnival was more than worth it. I was on my way to catch Angelina Perete’s live performance – it was my first – and it felt like winter came to Malaysia. I’ve listened to her songs on the radio countless times and every time, her voice captivates me. I tweeted about my first experience watching her perform live and that led to conversations with Angelina Perete herself. Months ago, I got the privilege to meet her, up close and personal (finally!) through winning a contest. Set at a beautiful Italian restaurant, myself and other guests were treated with a beautiful acoustic performance and later we got the chance to chat with Angelina Perete over a nice dinner. Angelina Pereta is no stranger to in the Sabahan music scene. This petite singer songwriter won the hearts of many with her mother and daughter duet, ‘Butterfly Baby’ with the lovely, Estee. The song was a hit and stayed on top of Hitz FM Borneo English Top Ten.
One of my last Christmas wish list came true when I got her autographed, collaborative album with the Jackfruit duo. One of the tracks in the album, ‘Rain’ is an all time favourite of mine. It is a very powerful song and I am particularly fond of songs that lift your spirits and hope. I highly recommend you listen to the song. Her latest duet with Estee, entitled ‘Forever Your Lullaby’ is another favorite of mine. Angelina Perete released this single over Mother’s Day weekend as a thank you for all her ‘Butterfly Baby’ fans. ‘Forever Your Lullaby’ is a quiet, gentle song – a simple song expressing gratitude to everyone in the family. Angelina Perete will also be performing at the upcoming Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival – I can’t wait to see her perform live again! For more about her updates, events and happenings, kindly proceed to her FB fan page: https://www.facebook.com/AngelinaPereteFanpage
DID YOU KNOW..? Angelina wrote and composed Butterfly Baby for her children at the school canteen! On Mother’s Day weekend, the song debuted at #1 and remained on the top for the whole nine weeks! Forever Your Lullaby, her new single with her daughter was first aired on May 12th. Angelina will be performing with Roger Wang Trio at the upcoming Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival. Angelina and her daughter, Estee, contributed their singing talent to Hitz FM’s Satu Malaysia song, Sabahan version.

artial arts and fitness enthusiast, Allen Solomon Chong, (otherwise known as ninja assassin, Raizo) has more sense of humor and sensibility than most martial art practitioners I know. Actively practicing and competing in the fighting arts of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), having recently signed to Glide Models, he now also offers his considerable modelling talents and the marketability of his physique to the wider health and fitness community through his obsession with Japanese espionage and gymnastic feats. Although his modelling endeavours in the fashion idustry is purely by chance and fairly new, Raizo is a natural in front of the lens , flexing and straddling his acrobatic skills. How do you feel about Kota Kinabalu City as a general creative environment, fashion wise? I feel that creativity is on a major shortfall in Sabah of late. Partly due situational stifling, but also partly due to lack of exposure. The younger generation always wants to push the envelope, but conservative big wigs may show no empathy. As the popular saying goes; ‘change is the only constant’ and I look forward to the prospects Sabah youths have to offer in the future. Let’s look back at how you started modeling, tell me about how you got discovered. I was actually just part of the entourage for my girlfriend’s modelinggigs.It’sacaseofbeingintherightplaceattherighttime. Tell me about your first modeling job, what was it like? Well, it was actually for a photographer friend who was looking to assemble a portfolio for his start-up venture. The pictures were shocking to say the least, but I was young and dumb, and he went on to have a successful stint as a wedding photographer for a while. I think I last heard him going down the route of architectural photography. You’ve got to be young and dumb to be old and wise. I’m relishing in that self comfort. Some guys have very versatile looks; they’re capable of representing many different feelings, being a different icon; whereas some models are lucky they have one good look. What do you think is your strongest feature? I like to milk the ‘Rain’ look-alike avenue. So anything in the action-physicality scene is of preference to me. Like my architectural preference, I have a small disdain for symmetry, so being off-centre and portraying ‘contrapposto’ provides a little more amusement and life. But I do think my feet are my strongest feature (it’s been described as ‘Ryu’ feet. That and my cauliflower ear. It’s the ‘mark of the warrior’ assures the guys in my BJJ gym. What do you do in your spare time? When I’m not juggling my career in architecture and BJJ / MMA training, I sometimes have the luxury of excursions like this. I also enjoy racing around in my pocket rocket (I’ve recently crashed it), rolling in BJJ, the occasional novel and annoying my girlfriend.
What do you find most attractive about fashion? It seems to me that I can ask 100 different people this question and I will receive 100 different answers, I’m curious to know what you think about it. Fashion, like any other art for consumption, to me, is all about interpretation. Like architecture, I try to unravel the underlying message and intent of every piece. Every author is unique in their perception and portrayal. In the end, I’ll quote my architecture alumni, ‘It’s all about people’. I understand that you are a Brazillian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) instructor..? Tell me about how you first got involved with martial arts. I think I have my family to blame for that. My dad taught me Taekwondo and my grandpa had been shoving Bruce Lee videos to me as a kid. I’m currently a BJJ purple belt teaching in team BJJ Borneo. I also competed in boxing a year ago. The guys in BJJ Borneo are tough; “steel sharpens steel” as the saying goes. No man’s an island, and we achieve higher when we’re a team. You obviously go to the gym/work out, but what’s overall most effective for you in staying lean? How do you keep fit? Do you have a special diet to keep in shape? To me, putting the time on the mat affords me opportunities to eat whatever I want. I generally stay away from ingesting pure lard. I guess that qualifies as a diet tip. However, during tournament season, I have a much stricter dieting regime. The best part of waking up is? Waking up and meeting quality people like you guys here in BandWidth and Glide Models. Thanks for the love! God bless! Ninja assassin out! Raizo sums up to be an amiable, unassuming fellow despite his robust physique - I think it’s our cue to discredit the perception that the martial arts serve as a breeding ground for violent thugs. Check out his portfolio at www.glidemodels.com .

ith his debut EP Happy Thoughts Launched on 27th May 2012, Appy is on his journey to a whole new level in the music industry. We had a joyful moment during the interview - it was like meeting a new friend in kindergarten and we had the best time talking and sharing as if we’ve been friends forever. As a performer, he plays all sorts of musical instruments from strings to woodwind to percussion. Altogether, no instrument beats his singing. When he sings, his voice makes people sing along with him. It did to me! For someone who is as funny and as playful like him (did you know that he also names all of his guitars?), you wouldn’t have thought how serious he is with his music career. He gave me the most memorable impression when I first met him, and it was my first time listening to his first single. He gets the momentum going from track to track. No doubt his aptitude will make people around him proud. His music fills monochromes with beautiful shades of colours just like his personality. Appy is just a really kind person with a benevolent talent. I have never met someone as friendly like him until now, and that is the Appy you will know when you get to meet this soulful fellow. Prior to releasing your EP, Happy Thoughts, what did you hope for? I had hoped my friends and their friends to support me with this because everything starts from their support.
Do you have stage fright? If yes how do you handle it? I do have stage fright. But I have to handle it so I always picture myself as the performer I would like to see on stage, and try to be that person when I’m performing.
What/who inspired you to your singing career? I would say my mom, because she was the one who discovered my talent. She was a singer too.
How do you handle mistakes during performances? I’m human, I forget lyrics sometimes but the show must go on and I just continue singing.
How long have you been singing? I started singing when I was 3 years old. At the age of 4, I performed on stage on RTM. I’ve been singing ever since I can remember.
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not doing music? I love watching movies. I have a rack of DVDs at home and I like sports too. I used to play rugby and bowling.
How was the process of completing your EP? It wasn’t easy. I had to compose and arrange a few songs in a short amount of time. There were also a few complications when I was recording because honestly, I’m better singing live than in the studio. When I sing live, the crowds’ reaction gives me the strength to carry on.
Is Appy your birth name? Naa, it’s my nickname. It is actually an evolution of nicknames since I was younger. My real name is Hilfiazri.
How do you balance music with other obligations? I have a schedule for that. When I have free time, I hang out with my friends and family. Who is/are your role model(s) in the music industry? I have to say The Beatles and Michael Jackson.
What are 3 things you hold very close to your heart? I support 3 things in my life; nature, music and charity. I’m composing a song for my friend’s album, so once the album is out, the profit will go to charity. If there is a fire in your house (touchwood), what/who will you save first? My family members (if anyone is in the house), my pets, my certificates and my guitars.
Appy really tries his best to make people around him happy. I guess that is how his nickname came about right? I have only met this bundle of joy twice and he makes me laugh every time. Follow him via Twitter at @Appy_Tots to know more about him. Even his tweet handle sounds bubbly, don’t you think?

CD REVIEWS
Artist: Fiona Apple Title: The Idler Wheel... Genre: Alternative Rock, Baroque Pop Review:
It’s been seven torturous years since the alt-rock singer’s last LP (Extraordinary Machine), but the wait is finally over with the release of The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do - Apple’s most anticipated studio album yet. Apple debuted a handful of tracks from the album during her recent live shows, two of which are entitled Valentine and Every Single Night, with both tracks emphasizing heavily on her genuine intimate emotions and sweeping melodies. She hasn’t lost her charms despite the long silence and has kept the soul and grit we fell in love with many years ago - her trademark modest guitar-plucking, backed by vast strings and feedback soundscapes and darling steady percussions work wonderfully as she croons, “I kept touching my neck to guide your eye to where I wanted you to kiss me, when we find some time alone” in Anything We Want. Heck, she gains momentum as the minutes pass in The Idler Wheel...! Overall a hypnotic 10-tracks album, Apple’s latest release is a great juxtaposition between her sultry (and highly expressive) crooning and beautifully arranged instrumental elements.
Artist: Gojira Title: L’Enfant Sauvage Genre: Metal
Artist: The Smashing Pumpkins Title: Oceania Genre: Alternative Rock
Review:
Review:
On par with Metallica and Tool, Gojira marches on with precision and heaviness of a whole new level for bands coming from similar genre. Not unlike Apple, Gojiro too has kept to their trademark since its last release 4 years ago, The Way Of All Flesh - complex and technical, rather than heavy and broken. The album, which features 11 tracks of mind-bending metal, is also available as a special collector’s package - featuring two bonus tracks and a full length live DVD along with an exclusive t-shirt. The title track is so good, it gives you a wise sense of impending doom - definitely heavy music for thinking men. Go get it.
Ocenia also sees Corgan singing distintively as a creative individual within the band, “..it is the first time where you actually hear me escape the old band. I’m not reacting against it or for it or in the shadow of it.” as well as introducing its three new line up - Mike Byrne (on drums, Nicole Fiorentino (on bass) and Jeff Schroeder (on guitar), highlighting their key contributions to the tone and texture of ‘Oceania’. At times, it almost seems like Corgan is trying a little too hard to ensure that Ocenia is on par with Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness, the band’s album in 1995. But Oceania, while it upholds the same musical values practiced by The Smashing Pumpkins, is a more progressive and emotional record.
Merging a staggering riff and double bass combo into one polyrhythmic storm, the first single and title track of 1ojira’s fifth album, L’Enfant Sauvage (or The Wild Child in English) appropriately sets the mood for the overall album - mad instrument work pieced together with seemingly repeated ideas and winning lyrical content, “I’m asking myself, ‘What is freedom? What does it mean to me?”
Oceania, the ninth studio album by The Smashing Pumpkins, produced by Billy Corgan and Bjorn Thorsrud, is considered to be part of the band’s ongoing 44song concept album, Teargarden By Kaleidyscope which the former describes as “an album within an album,”. Widely raved as a forceful and dynamic album, we couldn’t help but agree that it will definitely appeal to new and existing fans alike.

In this sequel, the team is forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence, in addition to battling their mortal enemy, Cobra. Though the story continues from where Rise of Cobra left off, the installment features favorite veteran stars - Bruce Willis, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Ray Stevenson replacing the likes of Marlon Wayans, Dennis Quaid and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. G.I Joe : Retaliation is without a doubt a fantastic follow up with more practical effects and gritty, militaristic battle action. The movie features an odd pairing - Steve Carrell as Dodge and Keira Knightley as Penny - in exploring what people will do in the last living days on Earth. In Dodge’s case, he chose to deal with his loneliness following his separation with his wife on the verge of catastrophy. He later decided to search for his high school crush with his neighbour, Penny, who inadvertently puts a wrench in his plan. This stress-induced romantic movie highlights just how much fun we can have just before the world comes to an end.

A night full of joyous drama and laughter.
A
nyone who is an avid follower of Raja Lawak, Malaysian reality TV show talent searching for elite comedians, and is an aficionado of the humorous discourse, will have a special appreciation for Malam Gerimis Mengundang - a musical skit of the film, Gerimis Mengundang. Staged at UMS Recital Hall last May 18th, starring Kamal Adli, Olivia Jensen, Felix Agus, Zero (Raja Lawak 6), P.O.P, Brenda, special appearance by DJ Ily (ERA FM) and Zamani (SLAM) and a troupe of talented actors and dancers, the skit was a wonderful musical adaption - highlighting the multilayered stories of young adults smitten in love and everyday life. The Raja Lawak 6 trio opened the stage with jocular melodramatics and later together with the skit casts peppered the stage with their stage presence and skittish naivetĂŠ, saucy interjections, wild dance moves and wowed the audience with their amazing vocal performance. The casts practiced the four scenes theatrical episode in less than 24 hours and despite the technical glitch, Malam Gerimis Mengundang was a grandeur performance - genuine, poignant and humorous at the same time.

WEEKEND PROJECT C R A F T I N G
love crafting. Once I start, there’s no stopping. It’s like a drug to me – it’s addictive and I always want to do more projects. There are just so many things you can do when it comes to crafting. The possibilities are limitless. One thing I love about this hobby is that you can always turn a rough idea into something tangible and develop an existing design into something bigger, thus training yourself to be more creative. Craft or hand craft isn’t just about cutting colored paper and gluing them together making picture collages or painting and applying glitter glue on cards for special occasions. There is always a chance for you to use these simple ideas for bigger projects too. When I say bigger projects, I mean something an adult can work on in their spare time just like how kids work on craft projects for art classes. It could be refurbishing an old cupboard into a new display case or even making plush toys from unused pillows. Like I said, the ideas you can think of are countless. Crafting also trains you to be more skillful and creative minded. That explains why children are trained to start young, in art classes in play school. Crafting requires patience because it takes time to invent or create a piece of art whether it is a big or small project, so it’s not only good for the mind but it’s also nurtures the soul.
1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle -Reuse old things to make new ones. Grab a plain plastic basket with tiny squared holes so you can use it as a cross stitch base. You can use old cross stitch threads to create a little piece of cross stitched pattern on the squared holes of the basket and there you go, a new piece of creation. 2. Old Hangers, New Hangers – Got some old rusty wire hangers? Don’t worry about it ‘cause we’ll be using them to make new ones. Grab some scrap fabrics of different colours and patterns and cut them into ribbon like strips. Wrap them around the wire hanger (it’s better to wrap more than one layer) until you’ve covered the whole thing. Don’t bother cutting the frays because that is how it should be. 3. Edible Crafts - Who said you can’t eat your crafts? If you’re going to help your mother or grandmother out in the kitchen especially when they are baking cookies, volunteer to decorate the cookies for them. All you need is icing sugar, some edible sprinkles and food colouring. Have fun this weekend..!

The best way to have fun with this activity is to do it with someone else, a group maybe. You can be sewing and making pouches with your mother or decorating the garden pots with your grandmother. Some teenage girls enjoy scrapbooking with their friends while boys make cardboard molds and prototypes of their favorite characters, robots or cars. When it comes to crafting with your loved ones, you get a chance to learn something new and most importantly, bond with them. The creations you made together will always remind you of that special moment spent crafting.

Fresh mint can be bought from any local supermarket and should be stored in the refrigerator to maintain its freshness. Although some supermarkets sell them with the stems on, most supermarkets sell only the leaves of the plant. If you buy the ones with the stems still attached, it should be stored in a container of water with the stems down and a plastic bag loosely covering the top. The water should be changed regularly and the mint should stay fresh from a few days up to a week.

5 INGREDIENT FIX; down home comfort food
For Asians, the famous dumpling is one of our favorite comfort food. There are two different ways of cooking dumplings. One is to broil them in boiling water and the other is to pan fry them. Dumplings are actually quite simple to make but are a little time consuming to prepare. The most important ingredient to make dumplings is the skin. It is a thin layer of flour dough about 1-2mm thick, cut in squares or circles. Then, you’ll need to wrap the fillings inside the skin and they are ready to cook. There is no fixed amount of ingredients to make dumplings but it surely is one of the recipes that uses only 5, less or even more ingredients depending how you want it to turn out.
One of American’s favorite comfort food is mac and cheese. Not only it is simple to make, it has only 5 ingredients in it. Funny thing is, it tastes different in every family. All you need is macaroni pasta, your favorite type of cheese, unsalted butter, flour, milk and some seasoning (salt and pepper) to taste. Firstly, cook the macaroni pasta until tender about 10-15 minutes in boiling salt water then strain it in the colander. For the cheese sauce, melt the butter over a gentle heat then add flour and mix until a smooth paste is formed. Slowly add a cup of milk and stir with a whisk to avoid sticking. Finally, add cubes of your favorite type of cheese and keep stirring until you get your delicious cheese sauce. Don’t forget to taste and season with some salt and
America’s all time fav mac and cheese.
One of the most famous 5 ingredients dumplings recipes is the baked apple dumplings which includes apples, crescent rolls, brown sugar, walnuts and cinnamon. You don’t have to limit yourself to 5 ingredients only. Add others you think would be good and when you make those changes, remember to jot them down as it is easy sometimes to forget how delicious you made the dish.

south african mediterranean eatery
C
entrally located at Perdana Park Tanjung Aru, with its pearl-white frontage and Oriental interior decor, this minimally stylish South AfricanMediterranean restaurant is a new addition to Kota Kinabalu eateries, managed by the English Tea House & Restaurant. During our midweek late afternoon visit, we were welcomed by Malisa’s young chef, Alvin J. The interior design reminded us of classic Asian restaurants in Western countries, with its lime yellow walls and the Far East characteristics of its fixtures. The food, like the decor, tends towards sophistication, offering homemade delicacies – pairing its beautifully tender signature dish, the marinated Peri-Peri 5 (flame grilled) Chicken Wings with aromatic South African chakalaka beans (2) (other side order options available) – the pairing makes for a miraculously light, but an indulgently rich meal. The former is a sweet, fiery treat, basted with more flavor – Malisa’s Peri-Peri marinade is zestier, tastier and more succulent. Malisa’s chakalaka beans, the Three Bean Salad emanated spicy curry flavors - a classic South African taste. Malisa has a concise South Africa-Mediterranean menu, consisting of primarily of fresh vegetables with an emphasis on poultry, rice, grains and beans in its salad and side servings and marinades. Yogurt, honey and chilies are also major components of Malisa’s Mediterranean cooking and fresh herbs are used in abundance. Its other more substantial main courses apart from its signature Flame Grilled Chicken selections include local treats – Malisa Nasi Lemak, Beef Rendang
and Mutton Curry. If you’re new to South African Mediterranean cuisine and/or if you plan to eat light, Malisa has a selection of spiced sandwiches for you to choose from – Chicken Breast Burger, Spiced Falafel, Chicken Breast in Pitta Bread (3) and a special treat for vegetarians, Veggie Pitta – the fillings are savory and full of flavor, a good choice for a light afternoon lunch. Special in Malisa’s appetizer, salad and beverage selections are Spiced Marinated Olive Bowl and Cous Cous Salad. The all time favorite Caesar Salad (1) at Malisa’s is in a class of its own, prepared in its prime original recipe – the dressing is creamier in texture and again, savory in its taste, thanks to the capers and a bundle of other herbs and spices. Hats off to Malisa’s iced peach tea, papaya smoothies and pink lemonade (3). The latter, mixed with blended cherries is neither too sweet nor sugary - a perfect companion for a fulfilling dinner. Catching up pace during lunch hour and as the afterwork set descends, Malisa buzzes at noon and at night, serving its homemade exquisite delicacies under the supervision of Chef Alvin, who prepares the dishes and also runs the floor to ensure guests’ satisfaction, quality control and to establish contact with patrons. Service is brisk and highly professional – floor crews are friendly and keen to talk about the dishes served. Prices are fair and coupled with the stylish setting and laid-back atmosphere, Malisa is definitely worth a visit time and again.
