WHY SPORT SCIENCE AT BANGOR? Choosing where you're going to study for the next three to four years is a big decision, and one you want to make carefully. We think there are six key things you need to know about: Student satisfaction Quality of teaching Sports on offer Your job prospects after you leave Funding your studies Flexibility of study options With those in mind here’s why we think you should consider Bangor. Excellent student satisfaction. The School is consistently annually rated highly for student satisfaction, being 7th out of 83 in the Complete University Guide 2020.
Buzzing student life. Bangor is a great place to live. The compact size and friendly atmosphere of the city and University means you’re bound to make loads of friends in a safe, affordable environment. In addition: • The University achieved a Gold Award, the highest rating possible, in the recent national Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). • Multiple Awards from WhatUni? Student Awards including winner of Accommodation in 2018 and Clubs and Societies in 2019. • Unlike most universities, Bangor offers free membership of all our award winning clubs and societies - so there are no expensive subscriptions for you to pay. • The Pontio centre offers a theatre, cinema, design studio, teaching and learning facilities, Student Union, cafes and much more.
Teaching and Research Excellence. At Bangor, we’ve been teaching high-calibre undergraduate degrees for 40 years. Over this time we’ve attracted world-leading academic staff who have helped to create some of the UK’s best sport science degree programmes. And all our teaching is backed up by outstanding, world-class research. So, as a student at Bangor, you’ll get brilliant teaching from people who are leaders in your field of study. “I am impressed by the work I see – both in terms of student achievement and in terms of the content and aims of the modules to be grounded in contemporary research. It is a clear strength of the department and the teaching staff.” Professor Marc Jones, External Examiner With an annual intake of approximately 150 undergraduates, we’re much smaller than a lot of other university sport science schools. Everyone knows each other and we pride ourselves in being one of the friendliest departments in a friendly university. We have an ‘open door’ policy so that you can sign up for tutorials with any of our staff.
Sport and Outdoor Activities at Bangor. In our experience, most of our students like to do sport as well as learn about it. The University has a number of very popular sports clubs and societies, and is probably the best place in the UK to study if you love outdoor and adventurous sports. Our unique location between Anglesey, the Menai Strait and the Snowdonia National Park means there’s great walking, running, climbing, rowing, kayaking and sailing right on our doorstep. As a student you’ll have access to all this, plus our extensive sports and recreation facilities. •
The Canolfan Brailsford Sports complex contains sports halls, gyms, weight and cardiovascular rooms, internationalstandard squash courts, a ‘Livingstone’ climbing wall, sports dome and outdoor pitches.

This means that you don’t only come out with a highly-respected degree, but also with an enhanced CV that shows off the transferable skills you’ll need to excel in a competitive job market. •
